Pokémon: Agent of Entei

Pokémon is not mine, but my Characters are.
Damn it's been a while.
I rose with the sun. It was so regular for me now I simply couldn't imagine it any other way, and could not remember a time in which I had slept in. I did what I always did to pass the time, read my dex. I was determined to memorize any information on the Pokémon species that might give me even the slightest edge. The crack in the screen (which had not been on the surface, but in the image) was gone, and the scrolling text had left. The Encroaching Darkness had left again. The world seemed a bit darker, like it had been before Arceus turned the brightness of the sun up.
Victini slept soundly, snoozing on his makeshift bed on the dresser. Idly I wondered why a Pokémon center rooms had such a large piece in every room if nobody ever stayed long. I pawed through the drawers and found lint, a quarter, a large hefty bible with a image of Arceus made up of stars like a constellation, and a broken CD disk. No longer entertained by the dresser I let the pack out of their pokeballs. Ripper happily barked and pranced around sniffing and investigating the room. Bones turned and faced me resolutely, a soldier just waiting for orders. Sune glanced at me as she materialized and then lay her head back down on her side and resumed her nap. Flare and Volt both spent a moment looking around before they moved to the door and sniffed under the crack. I glanced at the clock on the headboard and decided I'd been lethargic enough.
I quickly got ready for the day and fed my pack. Victini still slept on the dresser. As I pulled my shirt on I wondered what would happen if I simply left him there? Would he just keep sleeping? Would he go back to whatever was his home? Maybe he would try to smite me for my insolence. I had to crack a smile at the idea of the little chitter bug smiting anyone. He looked pretty odd, what with his too small neck and massive head, and the idea of him throwing fireballs from the heaven simply seemed laughable. But then Victini yawned loudly and pulled his head up and stared directly into my eyes. I was pretty sure he knew exactly what I had just been thinking about. During his yawn I had also gotten a pretty good look at Victini's fangs, once again reminding me that he spent most of his time on my shoulder, less than hairbreadths away from my jugular.
"You know, I gave it some thought. You sorta' look like a fox back in my dimension known as the Fennec Fox. Is that what you're closest too?" I asked Victini aloud as I grabbed my poketech watch off the counter and strapped in back onto my arm. Victini simply tilted his head to the side cutely. "I guess you wouldn't know about that." I grumbled to myself more than him. "Wonder how much I remember? A better question must be how much I forgot, but I really couldn't tell you anymore anyways. I don't know how determined Jesse must've been to even have some semblance of how much she lost. It's all just slipped away for me." I admitted to the small fairy creature wistfully as I pulled a sock on.
Victini fluttered over to me and landed on my shoulder again. Too my surprise he patted the back of my head twice before settling in to the crook of my neck, ready to go to sleep on my shoulder too.
I opened the door to my room and my dogs led the charge down the stairs. I came into the lobby to find Nurse Joy bent over and petting Ripper's head happily. He simply leaned into her scratches and I wondered for a moment if his large size could knock Nurse Joy over while I put the room key on the counter. "Seen any of the other three yet?" I asked Nurse Joy as I slowly strolled over to one of the chairs. "Only you. Is it normal for a teenage boy to be up at five sharp?" "Only when it's me. Probably. Maybe." I slowly admitted to Nurse Joy. My lack of knowledge once again was messing with me. I could feel the migraine coming on, vengefully painful.
I read my Dex. The dogs spread out among the room and slept, each of them all loving the activity. Nurse Joy worked behind the computer. Victini slept on my shoulder. All seemed still and slow. I wished the others would hurry up. As I was re-reading my Dex's Kanto entries I came across the entry for Ninetales, the Pokémon Sune now was. Live to be thousands of years old. Wow. How did they even document that? Vengeful. Yes, I imagined Sune could hold a grudge pretty well. She always seemed to be playfully mad at Ripper for something or other, though the two were mates. Will curse humans and Pokémon alike if they touch one of their nine tails. I scoffed for a moment before I cursed my stupidity. I was invincible in fire, Nathan could never be cut, Jesse could walk on water and never drown, and Harold controlled the world around him like a puppet master. If one of the Pokémon was well enough documented to say in the Pokedex that they could curse people, then they could curse people. But what was the nature of this curse? If I ever accidently brushed up against Sune's tails, would she curse me horribly in some way? What if one day I stepped on her tail, or one of her tails? She had nine, and accidents happen! The other details were sketchy, saying things like an older Ninetales has very golden fur and that each tail was filled with a different sort of mystical power. How were Ninetales not considered psychic type? They learn so many psychic moves! Sune already knew Extrasensory, Safeguard, and Imprison. Their entry told stories about how their eyes glowed with psychic energy and they often acted in mysteriously intelligent ways.
I glanced over at my eldest fox. She was sleeping, resting in a curled up ball. All her tails were wrapped protectively into her body, and her nose was tucked into her body. I dexed her and was surprised when she came back as weighing only 40 pounds. She was awfully light, but this was apparently the norm for her species. I could probably pick her up and carry her away in one arm if she didn't squirm away. I had thought her to be a bit heavier, but apparently she was all fluff. Sune looked up, staring straight at me balefully like; 'It's rude to stare' so I quit and went back to my dex to look over my own Pokémon. What didn't I know about them?
Ripper weighed a whopping three hundred fifty pounds. He stood almost a tall as me, like most members of the Arcanine form. According to his entry he could achieve blinding speed, but if he could I had yet to see it for anything but him running for the food bowl. Like the rest of the fire dogs, he had an internal fire, so he was slightly more resistant to super effective moves like earth and water. However the dex entries merely posted about how nice its mane looked. I glanced up and tried not to laugh. Ripper was laying on his back, legs sticking up into the air, occasionally twitching in his sleep. There wasn't too much info on the Arcanine. Perhaps they were a bit hard to get, despite the Growlithe on the police force. Perhaps I was overestimating the opportunities to evolve Pokémon that needed stones. Not everyone throws their fire types into a active exposed volcano.
Bones was laying down, but he was not sleeping. He was opposite the room from me, watching the others carefully. No doubt watching for any dissatisfaction so the dark type could scold them. Bones loved his order, and even when Ripper got on his nerves he always seemed fair. On the other hand, maybe I had no idea what was going on because I didn't speak dog or Pokémon. Maybe Bones was a total prick. I didn't know for sure, but I did know he seemed to think he was my vice captain and my own personal police force. Legends claim anyone burned by a Houndoom's fire would never heal, and that they were the Grimme's own messengers. Their fire was actually burning toxin's, so it had a slight smell to it. That was, of course, if you could smell it from the smoke and fire. Houndoom's were normally alert, intelligent, and very focused. They can be aggressive, but only to protect their territory, young, or themselves. Houndoom chose their leader by fighting amongst themselves, and their leader is the ones with the farther curved back horns. I glanced at Bones, gauging his horns. They stretched all the way back past his neck, farther than the Houndoom in the Dex. They were wickedly curved too, almost coming back around like a ram's horns. I guess Bones was both the leader and the police of my Pokémon after all. The rest of the dex detailed how if you were burned by a Houndoom the pain would never go away. Brutal and ruthless, they were avid predatory hunters. How… pleasant.
Bones lifted his head to observe me. I stared into his eyes, a quick dominance test. I wanted to see if he was an actual threat to me. He stared back for only a moment before he but his head down and watched me carefully. I glanced back at the dex and re-read the line that said 'If trained correctly, can be fiercely loyal and good pets.' Thank you; Jack. Just as I was about to read the entries for my other fire types Nathan and Jesse came down the stairs. Both seemed so tired that they were in danger of tripping on their feet and falling down the flight. Harold came down a moment later, floating in the air sleepily. "So, finally up?" I asked smugly as they trooped down the stairs. Nathan plomped down in an arm chair and Jesse shot me a glare. Harold sat on the bottom step and put his head on his hands. They all seemed so sleepy, and my head was still pounding. "Do we really want to leave? You guys look like the walking dead." I told them, hiding my own pain.
"And you look like you're trying to lay an egg." Jesse told me sleepily as she observed my head. "Was it really that obvious?" I asked her tiredly. Today was just not a day for anything good, it seemed." "What's the matter?" Nathan asked, equally tired as Jesse. "Jack's in some pain or another." Jesse announced easily. "How can you tell so easily and quickly? I thought Harold was the psychic." I asked her, morbidly curious. She shrugged and considered for a moment before, "I've caused you enough pain to know what you look like when you're hurting." Jesse told me.
There was silence for a moment before Nathan softly giggled to himself and Jesse went back over what she said. "That's pretty sad, and a bit creepy. But I can't seem to bring myself to care." I told Jesse as I nursed my head. "That's some head ache. Maybe we should just hang out for a while. We need the rest, and you could do with an ice pack." Harold told me.
"Let's go over the plan once more really quick while we're all still up." I suggested. Nathan huffed unhappily and quickly rolled out our plan. "Go through Meteor Falls, go to Rustboro, head east until we get to the river, sail to Mauville, head east some more until we get out to the ocean, and hunt down the badges. We gotta be quick, or we might find ourselves going to war without all eight badges." "And that doesn't account for all the mission's we're assured to get, right?" Jesse asked from where she sat on the step.
All our dexes beeped a tri-ring tune once. "Erm, speaking of missions?" Nathan asked as he grabbed for his dex along with the rest of us. We flipped open our dexes and found ourselves faced with another legendary. But this time, the face was not anyone we had seen yet. The green plate armor and red lines revealed our caller to be Rayquaza, sky dragon god. We were all given a very big close up of his eye. The air whistled in the background, like he was moving fast at high altitude. "Champions!" Rayquaza roared. Beneath us the ground shook from the sheer volume of his shout. Nurse Joy, who wasn't able to hear our conversations, looked over like she might have heard as squeak or something. All my dogs snapped to wakefulness, Volt and Flare knocking their heads together in their haste. I withdrew them as they all dived for my dex. Victini had been blown off my shoulder.
"Is this thing on! Testing!" Rayquasa blasted us again. "For the love of Arceus, don't answer him! Maybe he'll hang up!" I screamed at Nathan. "He'll call right back! Get it over with!" Harold reasoned. "Erm… hello, Lord Rayquasa. We hear you, if you could just maybe turn down the vol-" "GOOD! Champions, I task you with cleaning out the dragon holy land of Meteor Falls of those syndicate Goons and their Black suit leaders! The other Groups are too busy right now, and although it will be a tough fight, I have confidence you will be able to shift the villains from the cave! Do this for me, so that the dragon's might once again migrate in the future!" Rayquasa roared out. I could of swore I heard his baying roars in the sky outside, but I was more concerned with getting some fire quickly. I'm pretty sure I busted an eardrum.
"I hate all legendaries." Jesse mumbled. "WHAT?" Harold yelled aloud. Nathan held his head in one hand. "Well, we were going through there anyways, right?" I asked, trying to be optimistic. "Harold, did you manage to get anything off him?" Jesse asked the boy. "WHAT!" "USE YOU POWERS THEN!" Jesse roared in his face. "WHAT? JUST A SEC', I'M GOING TO USE MY POWERS!" Harold told us before the familiar sense of telepathy slipped into my head.
"He's probably just messing with us too." I muttered aloud. "I didn't manage to read anything in his head expect doubt." Harold informed us cheerfully. "Think we can get a map of this cave?" I asked as I pondered the assignment. Nathan nodded. "Jesse, you remember the way to Professor Cozmo's house? Ask him for a map, he's sure to have one." Nathan instructed. Jesse nodded and got up before running out of the building. "They're sure to be on guard now that their forward base in town is 'unresponsive'. It'll be tougher, and this time there is not outside help either. They're sure to have only the best guarding their main base of operation, and several Black Suit's on hand." Nathan plotted out. "We've faced tougher odds before, right?" "I don't think so Jack." Nathan admitted unhappily. "Well then, we cheat. We're blessed by the legendaries and are all super heroes. Harold, think you can possess a Black Suit at a distance or something?" "Not a chance. My possession is not good. Telekinesis is my forte. And to top it off, I found plans in the Black Suit's head a while ago about some sort of psychic disruptor. I've got no idea if it works or exists, how it operates or what it might mean for us, but I'm throwing it out there that if they've got a working model, it'll be there." Harold told us unhappily. Jesse ran back into the room and Harold briefed her mentally. Jesse rolled out a massive detailed map covered in a thin messy scrawl.
"You sure this guy isn't a doctor?" I asked as I examined some of the writing. It was so thin I would need a magnifying glass to make it out. From here it looked like Scandinavian runes. Nathan ignored all this and leaned over the map. "And we can be sure this isn't all that accurate either, due to the time Cozmo had been locked up. This is also several years old, because this is a time stamp from five years ago. This map is going to be really vague about anything now." Nathan told us. "Well, sorrrrrry! This was the map he gave me, said it was the best one he had." Jesse told Nathan. "Wasn't blaming you. Just gotta think." Nathan told us as he pored over the map.
"Who need's planning. We've done everything freehand so far, and look how it's worked out." Jesse declared proudly. "Chime is dead" Harold told her very softly. Jesse looked like she was sorry, and was about to apologize but Harold beat her to talking and whispered out, "Rabbit is dead" too. Jesse instantly looked murderous and psychic or not I was momentarily afraid for Harold's safety, but Jesse restrained herself and a calm façade slipped onto her face. "So we plan. So we scout. Can we do it from here? That's something of a trek. Should we move up to the mountain side and or camp out in the forest maybe?" I asked Nathan.
"I'll have to think of something. But right now, I think we all need some rest. Everyone looks like hell. Go back to sleep. Ask Nurse Joy for your room keys back, I'm sure she'll not ask questions." Nathan told us three. We rose and awkwardly moved back to Nurse Joy, who nodded and passed us our keys back. I glanced back at Nathan as we ascended the stairs. He hadn't moved, holding his index finger up to his mouth and biting on it, hard. He scrutinized over the map, bent over double, so close to the map his nose might've been touching it. He hadn't said it, but he must've been twice as tired as any of us. And he was punishing himself of course, for what had happened here.
As I reached the top step I decided I hated north Heonn. And I hated the legendaries too.
