51 - Mortal Dread
Her fingernails dug deep into her palms. She'd have marks there for days, she knew. Her grip on the bar didn't lessen. If anything, it only increased, threatening to draw blood. It wouldn't be the first time.
Their momentum changed again, hurtling off to the left, her shoulder slamming into glass for a brief moment. Her free hand clawed at her seat, hoping to restore some sense of balance to her life. She only partially lurched to the left at the next turn.
She was going to die. She was certain of it. Death was coming for her or she was coming for it at speeds no woman should ever be traveling. Either way, she was sure she'd have the ability to draw breath after this.
Another turn. Her body slammed against the window yet again.
"For the love of Time, slow down!" The voice that left her lips was much too high to be her own.
Haruka stepped on the brakes, pitching the green-haired woman forward. Her nose only barely avoided meeting the dashboard.
"We're here!" Haruka chirped with that stupid sided grin. "And with time to spare."
Setsuna exited the car on shaky legs. Never had she been so grateful for solid ground. "Was that completely necessary?" she chided, ignoring the slight strain in her voice.
The blonde's grin only grew as she handed over the brightly wrapped box. "Can't be late for the Princess' birthday, can we?" she returned, green eyes shining in her mirth. "Your hands ok?"
Setsuna breathed deep through her nose, ignoring the tease. She hoped Michiru had brought her car. There was no way she was getting back in that death trap.
