James' POV
Alice and I stood together in a corridor. Killing time mostly.
"Hugo really is growing up. Isn't he? He's coming up with his own schemes."
"What are you doing tonight?" I asked her mostly in order to change the subject. "Do you want to go visit Godric tonight?"
"Godric? Godric Gryffindor?" She asked laughing.
"No my hippogriff. Thank you again by the way." I said reaching for her hand.
"James! You can't . . ." she looked at me with big blue eyes. "It's disrespectful."
"Actually I can." I leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Listen I have to meet Hugo now. I'll see you tonight?" I asked grinning at her. "C'mon you'll know Godric was the perfect name when you see him."
"Fine." She gave in kissing me on the cheek and running off. I smiled seeing her go.
"Hey, you made it." I heard a cheery voice behind me.
"Of course I did. Wouldn't miss it for the world. Care for a stroll?"
"Sure." She replied. I led the way down the corridor.
Lily's POV
I was making my way back to Gryffindor tower when I spotted James who seemed overly happy to see a girl who wasn't . . . well to put it quite frankly wasn't his girlfriend!
I ducked behind a statute.
I overheard him saying " . . . I wouldn't miss it for the world. Care for a stroll?"
James led the away with his hand on the small of her back.
The girl looked back and I caught a glimpse of her face. She was Rose and Albus' year. A Gryffindor named Cassandra. This didn't feel right.
I tried to shake it off. I did! My brother was better than that. He'd changed.
I wouldn't indulge these thoughts any longer. It wasn't fair to him or Alice who I have taken quite a liking to in the last year. I'd go to the library instead so it didn't look as if I was following them.
I searched the stacks for a book I needed for my potions report. Potions may be one of the only things I excel at over my brothers and many many cousins. Well that and jinxes.
I found the right stack. I also heard a familiar arrogant laugh. James and Cassandra were at the very end of the stack looking pretty cozy. It looked as if James would kiss her at any moment. I reached for wand. This would be an opportune time to show off my jinxes.
"Miss Potter!" Screamed the librarian in a high-pitched yell. "No wand work in the library. Are you deliberately trying to cause a scene?"
"Yes." I answered. I was shooed from the library promptly
Later that day . . .
I waited for James that night in the stairwell leading up to the boys' dormitories. This was the only place I thought of catching him off guard. It would also a place where Alice couldn't overhear anything. Nor anyone else thanks to the charm I casted. I didn't plan on having a particularly long conversation with him. I just needed the truth. And if the truth was that he was cheating on Alice, then well someone else also needed the truth.
I heard him say goodnight to Alice and come up the stairwell. Once he saw me I cut to the case.
"James what is going on between you and Cassandra."
"Nothing." He answered without missing a beat.
"So you haven't been spending time with her? Let's say this afternoon?"
"No . . ." he stuttered out. "Why did you see something?"
"Why do you ask that? Are you trying to figure out what lie to tell me next?"
"Lily . . ."
"You're vile James. Have you forgotten you have a girlfriend named Alice?"
"Don't lecture me Lily it's complicated."
"No!" I shouted. Frustrated at my brothers' lack of common sense. "It's simple. What you're doing is wrong."
"Please Lily don't tell Alice." He gave me an exasperated pleading look.
I pushed past him making my way down the stairs. "I thought you'd changed."
