Chapter 50

Today I am going to the mental hospital to visit Jacob to tell him he was right about the torture that goes on in the Justice Building. It is more of an apology and a visit. I go there sometimes but, not very often because of the terrible memories I have there. I get to the hospital and head to the mental ward and get the strange looks I always do when I come back here. I think they all think I am here to to check myself in willing but, that will never happen.

"Hello Mabel." I say when I reach the desk.

"Hello Dylan. What are you doing here? You usually don't pick up your medications here any longer you get them delivered to our house."

This is true after coming here the first time and being required to talk with Hector I just order them and they get delivered to my house straight from the Capitol. The drugs are from the Capitol anyways but, this cuts out the middle man.

"Actually I came for a visit. Jacob's allowed to have visitors right now correct."

"He is, you should talk with him outside since it is so nice out."

I nod.

Only a nurse has to watch for outside hours.

"I'll be your escort." She winks. Mabel doesn't really watch people if she knows they don't deserve to be here.

She takes me to the outside deck where no one else is. You can see the beach perfectly I always hated coming out here. You were so close to being free but you were still locked up like a mouse trapped in a box.

"Well it is nice to see different faces." Jacob says.

I roll my eyes.

"You hear about the district shut down." I ask.

"Woah no hi, no how's your imprisonment going. You're making me feel like a two dollar hooker over here." He smiles

"My apologizes Jacob."

"To answer your question though not really. The only reason I know is because my sister told me when she visited. They really don't want us to know about the outside world while we are in here. Or did you forget?"

"No I was just curious." I say.

"Well considering your demeanor I can assume this isn't a social visit?" He smirks

"Not exactly. I just wanted to tell you that you were right about the Justice Building."

"Of course I'm right but, you should be careful talking about the outside world so much Dylan."

"I know but they don't watch us out here right?"

"Usually but you never know." He says. "How did you find our anyways?" He asks curious.

"I have a friend who recently became involved."

"Friend you say." He smiles "Last I checked Dylan Watt didn't have friends." He smirks.

"I do she is a new friend."

"She." He raises his eyebrows.

"Yes."

"This girl got a name?"

I roll my eyes.

"It's Tori."

"You her love don't you."

"Why would you say that?"

"Just the way you said her name made you have a special glow in your eyes."

"Well I don't actually know the answer to that question."

"You're over thinking it then." He says.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"Ask yourself this question."

I look at him.

"If you were on your deathbed and could only have one person at your side who would it be? If a shred of you think it is her then you do love her."

"I'm sorry but outside hours are up." I hear Mabel say.

Jacob smiles.

"Don't be a stranger." He says.

"Of course not." I say and leave the hospital.

I don't do anything for the rest of the night and head up to bed and stare at the ceiling. I keep thinking about what Jacob said. I keep thinking if I had one person next to me while I was dying who would be. I first think of Emily but a part of me is thinking it might be Tori.

"You know Tori it just occurred that you come to my house all the time but I have never seen your living chambers."

"Living chamber?" She laughs "I don't live in a prison."

"I know." I smile.

"Is this your very subtle way of saying you want to see my how did you put it again? Living chambers." She smirks

"Maybe." I smile.

"Well I don't know if you should." She says and doesn't meet my gaze.

"What do you mean?"

"Well my family has their concerns-

"Oh they're like everyone else." I mutter.

"Not really Dylan they just… they just…

"It's okay Tori I don't know why I'm surprised." I sigh.

"I want you to see where I live though and at least meet my sister."

"But-

"I know your sister." She smiles.

I sigh

"Okay."

"I'm not going to make you do anything Dylan." She says.

I remember the first time Tori came over here after she got tortured she called her sister and she didn't want her to stay her all night because she was afraid I would hurt her. Once she heard Emily was here she felt more comfortable. To my knowledge I have never hurt anyone except the people in the mental hospital but that's different I wanted to get Hector away from me.

"Dylan?" She asks. I must've zoned out for a bit.

"Sorry. I would love to see where you live." I smiles

"Let's go then."

She laces her arm with mine and takes me to the direction of town. I can feel the stares being burned into my back but don't care at this point. I can't change what they think of me.

She takes me to a neighborhood and it is one of the better ones in the middle level. Her sister is a lawyer and they make a decent amount of money. Mostly because people in the upper level love to sue people.

She stops in front of a house that is abstract. It has too floors but, looks almost crooked. However, when you look at the foundation it is as straight as an arrow.

"Interesting." I say.

"What?" She asks confused.

"Your house appears crooked but the foundation is straight. Is it crooked inside?" I ask.

She smiles

"Why don't we find out and see." She grabs the keys from her pocket and I smile. I have never used keys in my life. The lower level didn't really have a door that had a key hole so if people wanted to steal our food they could. However people knew not to steal from us unless they wanted to deal with our drunken excuse of a father. I don't lock my house in Victors Village because I don't see the point. Anything worth stealing is at my house on the lower level or on my person.

She opens the door and I step inside. It smells like apples and cinnamon. The entrance way has hard wood floors. You can see the family room which has a small sofa and a comfy chair. The kitchen is standard has a small table, counter, cabinets, fridge, sink, and a small stove.

"Tori good your back, Dad wanted to see you later today and-" Her sister stops talking by looking at me. Her sister looks just like Tori, same wavy brown hair and hazel eyes expect she is older not much older she is probably in her early twenties. She must not get many cases. then again with how much the upper level citizens sue one another she probably does get some action.

She is studying me and probably wondering what I'm doing in her house.

"And he wanted us to have dinner with him if we didn't have other plans." She isn't looking at her sister she is looking at me.

"Okay." Tori chirps "We haven't had dinner with him in a while. Do you know if something is wrong?" She asks.

"No I think he just misses us."

Tori nods.

"I brought Dylan here we were already in town and I thought we should stop by since I always go to his house."

We weren't in town. She is probably telling her this so she knows this wasn't the main event today.

Her sister doesn't look pleased by this though. I think she would've liked a warning before I came over or at least tell Tori no.

"It looks like you were in the middle of something though I can-" I get cut off.

"You're not going anywhere." Tori interrupts seeing my thought process.

"Fine." I say.

"Wait right here I'll be back." She says and walks past her sister and heads upstairs.

Her sister comes over and stands closer to me.

"Tilly." She says.

"Dylan."

"I know you're name."

"Of course you do." I mutter.

"Not for being the town loon but because Tori doesn't shut up about you." She says annoyed.

"Really" I say surprised and have a tone of happiness for some reason.

"Yes really. Always talking about how good of a person you are and that you aren't what everyone thinks."

"Which is?"

"Crazy, deranged, dangerous... Killer."

She looks me up and down.

"What?" I ask.

"You're much taller in person."

"Thank you I think."

"Just an observation it's not a complement."

"Thanks for the clarification." I say annoyed.

"No problem." She smiles and I roll my eyes.

We stand here in silence and she doesn't take her eyes off of me.

"What is she doing up there?"

"It's a test stupid." She says

"What?"

"You really are as dense as she says."

"What does that mean?"

"Never mind." She sighs "But back to the test she wants to make sure you just don't leave even though I am making you uncomfortable."

"You're not making me uncomfortable."

"Dylan please-"

"You're not." I say truthfully. "I think I'm making you uncomfortable."

"Why do you think you're not uncomfortable."

"Don't tell me what I'm feeling that shit gets annoying fast. Even if you are a trained doctor." I roll my eyes.

"That what they did in there." She asks in a strange voice. I think it is compassion.

"Maybe one of the terrible things."

"You know the mental hospital gets lots of lawsuits claiming unrightful holding and treatment."

"Really?"

"Yes however there is no proof."

"There wouldn't be now would there." I mutter.

"And what does that mean?"

"Something that can't be explained."

She nods.

"You are making me uncomfortable to answer to previous statement." She says.

"Why is that Tilly?"

"I don't know." She says and looks at me. "I don't think it's because you were in the hospital for a year or that you hear voices. I think it is because at any minute I think you will have a flashback and try to kill me."

"I probably couldn't kill you unless you let me burn your house down." I smirk.

"You're funny." She says and I can see a subtle smile."Maybe not as witty as Tori but you have that strange sense of humor and quick wit too." She sighs and looks at me again. "Don't mess her up."

"What does that mean?"

"Make her all head crazy."

"It's not a disease Tilly you can't catch it."

"Well she goes through something traumatic every month and who does she see after it happens." She looks at me. "You." She says disgusted "I just don't want her to start hearing things."

"As I said it doesn't really work like that."

"Well whatever but if you ever do hurt her. I can get you locked back up so fast it won't even be funny."

"Doubtful." I say.

"Why is that?"

"Let's just say I know someone in the Capitol who said that wouldn't happen."

She eyes me and opens her mouth to say something but Tori comes down the stairs.

"I cleaned up my room I can show you it." She says

Tilly smirks at me.

"Looks like you passed." She says softly. I can't tell if Tori heard her or not but it doesn't matter.

"Let's go." She says.

She takes me up stairs the strange stair case and to her room. It is small it has a desk, a bed, and a dresser. While it is small it is as big as the kitchen in the lower level house.

"So how was my sister?" She smiles.

"Fine. Tori?"

"Yeah?"

"Was that a test?" I ask her.

"Not really I wanted to see if you would leave even if she used her sassy mouth."

"So yes."

"Maybe." She smiles.

"You're making me feel cheap Sybil." I tease

"Why's that Watt?"

"Because you do this with every guy you bring home and-

"No I don't." She says confused.

"What?"

"I only do it to the ones I don't want to leave. There has only been one other person and they did leave. You didn't though." She smiles.

"I'm never going to leave you Tori especially when you took me somewhere. You wanted me here so I won't leave until you tell me too."

She smiles.

"Good I'm glad."

In this moment I realize I don't need to kiss Tori to know. I do love her and I always have. Now allowing myself to accept this is going to be hard because I can never tell her. She deserves better than me.
