The door cracked, large splinters spread across the silvery white surface. Any moment now and the guards would break down the barricade. Another crack of the door, and Elphaba whimpered. Unconsciously she curled further into Siefer's arms and buried her face deep into the folds of his shirt. Her long lashes fluttered closed as Siefer's scent filled her senses, making her head swim and her heart to ache. Oz, how she had missed his smell, the comfort of his arms, the feel of his body pressed against hers, for it was all like a distant dream, slowly fading beneath the cloak of eternal darkness.

Dust blew like crystalline snow within the air, swirling and dancing on a river of silk and satin. The windows shook, the glass trembled, vibrating with each violent pound on the door.

A whimper and Galinda throws herself into Fiyero's arms. Tears like star dust bubble within her dark cerulean eyes, making them sparkle like twilight. Her long golden hair fell in waves of silk down her trembling shoulders.

"What are we going to do?" whimpers Galinda. Fiyero could feel the little blonde shake against him, and his heart went out to her. Gently, he folded his arms around her slender waist and closing his eyes, rested his head against the top of her head.

"It'll be alright Glin…I'm here…I'll protect you" whispers Fiyero softly.

Suddenly, Elphaba stiffened and her gaze floated across the room, to the far wall nearest to the window and for a moment, she stood and stared. A faint wisp of artic air blew past her, lifting a few lose strands of raven hair up and float like crystal snowflakes swirling and dancing on the edge of the western breeze.

Feeling her shift, Siefer turned his soft sapphire eyes stared back at Elphaba's rigid form. Instantly, his arms tightened and his heart thundered in his chest. His mind whirled, watching the raven haired beauty stare off into the distance; a shimmery reflection of the dawns early light, glistening, tip toeing along the icy surface of a gilded mirror.

"What is it?" asks Siefer, his voice soft, like a whisper.

A sudden bang and Elphaba stiffens in Siefer's arms. Whipping her head around, her dark chocolate eyes widen, fear sparkles like twilight within the swirls of dark chocolate and gold dust.

"SIEFER!" screams Elphaba. Another loud crash and the door collapses to the ground, kicking up dust clouds of smoke to rise and fill the room. The loud, thundering footsteps of the guards echo like kettle drums; ricocheting and splitting against the walls.

The leader of the Guards steps forward, a rifle clutched tight in his gloved hands, the barrel smoking.

"We have you now savages!" snarls the Guard.

Slowly, the dust cleared, each and every guard stood rigid, waiting. To them it did not matter whether or not the Winkie savages made a move to stop them. They would shoot first, and ask questions later.

A snarl from the Leader and the dust clears. His eyes widen and his mouth drops open in shock, for the room was empty, save for them and a smoking rifle.

"How in the sweet name of the Glikkus did they escape!" snarls the Leader. A man of shorter status marches to the Leaders side. Saluting him, he knocks the heels of his black leather boots together.

"Sir…what now?" quivers the guard.

"Search the grounds…search everywhere…tear this castle apart I don't care! I want those Winkie savages found and shot on sight!" roars the Leader.

"Yes sir!" roars the guards. One by one, they filter out of the room, their weapons poised and at the ready. Only the one who approached the leader remains. Sensing his presence the leader turns and glares at the guard.

"Yes?" growls the man.

"Sir" starts the guard.

"Glijkin" interrupts the leader his voice was cool and icy.

"Glijkin…what of the Princess?" asks the guard.

"The Crowned Princess has been taken prisoner by the Winkie Savages…do what you must to retrieve her…if she dies in the process then so be it" snarls Glijkin, his voice cool as steel and acidic.

"But…her Highness" quivers the guard.

"Did you not hear me? Find the Princess! If she's shot then so be it!" roars Glijkin. Shaking, the guard salutes his leader, before swiftly turning and running out of the room. Growling, Glijkin takes a step towards the busted window. His dark, muddy eyes glare at the shattered remains of glass, glistening in the sunlight. "Another shall come along…and take her place" Smiling, he turns, a snap of his cape and he steps out of the room.

Heavy panting echoes down the hall as four figures dart back and forth between the shadows, and avoiding the glints of sunlight, pouring through the large bay windows.

Elphaba takes the lead, her hand clutched tight in Siefer's. Her dark chocolate eyes dart wildly back and forth, her ears bent to the ground, watching and listening for the sounds of approaching guards, or approaching servants.

Siefer struggles to keep up with her and every now and again he turns, eyeing both Fiyero and Galinda, straggling but a few feet behind them. Satisfied, he turns, his eyes watching the shadows for any sign of movement. Absently, his fingers curl tight around Elphaba's.

"How did you know?" asks Siefer, his voice rising just above a whisper.

"The secret passage in the wall?" asks Elphaba, her eyes remained trained on the shadows "I spent much of my time in that room…after" her voice cracks as a rush of memories of that horrendible night, crash within her skull. Shaking the visions away, she slowly turns and looks over her shoulder. "I explored that room…found all the secret doors hidden in the walls and where they went"

"Fae…I'm so sorry I couldn't get to you sooner…before" trials off Siefer. He didn't know fully to what she had experienced, nor what her pig of a husband had done, but he could tell, just by her body language that it wasn't good. And at that moment, he swore he would do whatever it took, to wash those memories away.

"I left remember" growls Elphaba, not wishing to revisit the past again. "I knew what the Prince of the Glikkus was like and yet I still went"

"But" stammers Siefer. "I could have stopped you"

"No you couldn't…I would have gone…no matter what you had done to stop me" snarls Elphaba. She still hadn't fully forgiven him yet. The pain was still too fresh, the memories to new. It would take awhile, before they could return to the sweet paradise of bliss where they once roamed so long ago.

"Fae" starts Siefer.

"Now is not the time for this Siefer" stilling, Elphaba turns and rounds on her former lover. "We have the whole contingent of guards in search for you and Fiyero…each one thirsty for your blood and heads" snarls Elphaba. Siefer moved to touch her, but Elphaba jerked away. She wasn't ready for him to touch her, not yet.

"She's right" came a voice. Turning, Siefer stare back at his brother. "We argue later…right now we have to get out of here…with our heads intact"

"Elphie" pants Galinda. "Where…where do we go now?"

"This way" turning, she pulls Siefer along.

Siefer watched in silence as Elphaba led the group through twisted turns and half darkened hallways. It seemed like an eternity, before daylight finally broke through the veil of darkness and shadow.

Stopping, Siefer stood tall and regal in the sunlight, relishing the feel of the cool air billowing past him. A hard yank and his eyes snap open.

"Enjoy later…we still have to get out of the Glikkus before were deemed safe" snarls Elphaba.

Nodding, he allowed Elphaba to pull him through the courtyards, and into the woods. Once hidden beneath the shade and canopy of green and browns, Siefer pulls Elphaba to a stop and forcing her to the ground, turns her, forcing her to look at him.

"What now?" asks Siefer, his voice tinged with worry.

"We follow the river…it'll lead out of the Glikkus" replies Elphaba darkly. Angrily, she jerks her arms free from Siefer's grasp.

"Fae…please…don't pull away from me" whispers Siefer.

"You have no claim to me Siefer…you're the one who ensured that" snarls Elphaba.

"Is there no forgiveness in your heart for me?" asks Siefer softly. Slowly his hand rose and slid toward Elphaba's cheek. She could feel the tips of his fingers brush against her skin. Growling, her hand rose and clutched hard onto his, squeezing hard, she glared darkly back at him.

"Not now"

"Guys!" cries Galinda.

"What?" snarls Elphaba. Turning, she glared at the blonde. She may not hate the blonde as much as she did Siefer, but she still did not wish to be around her, not yet anyways.

"The…guards" squeaks Galinda. Timidly, she points a dainty finger out towards the distance. Turning, Elphaba's eyes widen, seeing a large platoon of guards heading their way.

"We have to move…now" snarls Elphaba. Ignoring her, Siefer reaches out and grabs hard onto Elphaba's shoulders. With a grunt, he forces her back down onto her hunches. "Siefer! Let me go! We have to move!"

"No…even if we run those guards will catch up to us" replies Siefer, nodding towards the large platoon.

"What do you suggest then?" snarls Elphaba. Fear quickened in her heart, seeing the determination shimmer in his eyes. She didn't like it.

"Someone has to stay behind…a distraction" replies Siefer.

"A distraction…Siefer?" suddenly Elphaba stiffened. Absently her hand rose and clutched hard onto his shoulder. "No Siefer…no you can't!" cries Elphaba.

"What…what is it Elphie?" asks Galinda.

"You can't do this!" cries Elphaba, ignoring her friend.

"What choice do we have…someone must remain…if the rest of you has any chance of escaping" replies Siefer softly.

"You can't!" cries Elphaba. Tears bloom in her eyes. Lowering her gaze, she reaches for Siefer's hand. Shakily, she threads her fingers with his and gently, brings their entwined hands up to rest at her abdomen. "Can't you feel it?"

"The life?" asks Siefer. A pain rippled across his heart, for the life growing within his Fae's womb was not his.

"It's yours Siefer" cries Elphaba.

"What?"

"It's yours…the baby is yours…the child growing within me is your child" cries Elphaba, her voice cracking slightly.

"It's…mine…but" starts Siefer.

"I felt it…after that night with you…the change…a life growing within" whispers Elphaba brokenly.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I hated you remember" whispers Elphaba, choking on her tears. Slowly, her eyes lifted, and stared softly back into shimmering sapphire. "To tell you of such killed me...now do you see why you can't leave me?"

Slowly, his free hand rose and cupped her cheek. The meat of his thumb gently glided across the soft field of emerald. "Now do you see why I must stay?" counters Siefer gently.

"But?"

"Fae…your carrying my child…that alone is reason for treason…if the King and Queen were to find out" shaking those thoughts away, his fingers tightened around hers. "if your husband were to find out…you would be tried and convicted of conspiracy against the crown…I have to stay…if only to protect our child"

"No…no please don't!" cries Elphaba.

"Fae" leaning forward, Siefer presses a tender kiss to Elphaba's forehead. "I have to…you and our child must live on….for me" his voice was pleading with her to understand.

"I can't live without you" whispers Elphaba brokenly. It was a simple truth, she dared not dream to admit, especially now.

"And I can't without you" lowering his lips, he captured hers in a soft kiss. "That's why I must stay…to protect you and our child" whispers Siefer.

"Please don't go" whispers Elphaba brokenly. Closing her eyes, she collapsed against Siefer's chest. Her arms rose and wound tight around his waist.

"I'll always be with you my love" whispers Siefer.

For a moment, the two former lovers remained, locked in the silence bliss of each other's touch, their scent. The world faded around them, the people vanished into crystal mist. It was only them.

A tug, and the world shatters. Reluctantly, Elphaba turns, her glassy eyes rise and stare brokenly back at Fiyero, standing before her, a solemn look plastered on his face.

"Come Fae…before it's too late"

Turning, she stared back at Siefer.

"Siefer" whimpers Elphaba. Leaning closer, he captures her lips for one last kiss. Jerking to his full height, he turns and runs towards the guards, leaving Elphaba broken on the ground.

"SIEFER!" screams Elphaba. Bending down, Fiyero gently scoops Elphaba up in his arms. "No! No let me go! Siefer! Siefer!" wildly, the raven haired witch thrashes and writhes violently in Fiyero's arms.

Tightening his grasp, he forces Elphaba up on her feet and spinning, pulls her through the woods, Galinda following swiftly at their heels.

"Siefer! No we can't leave him behind…we have to go back for him!" cries Elphaba.

"Fae no we have to keep moving!"

Snarling, Elphaba manages to wiggle free from his grasp, and spinning out of his arms, glares back at him. Marching forward, her hand rises. A crack and Fiyero stumbles back, his hand flying to his now sore cheek.

"Fae?"

"How dare you! He's your brother Fiyero!" roars Elphaba.

"Elphie please stop" cries Galinda. She could hear the shouts from the guards. Turning, her eyes widen as the contingent swarms over Siefer's body. "No!" cries the blonde.

Spinning around, Elphaba and Fiyero watch as the guards beat Siefer to the ground. Blood splatters the trees, covering the leafs and making them drip in crimson rain.

"No!" cries Elphaba. Twisting around, Elphaba runs towards her lover. Her hands rise and spark of green lightning flicker at the tips. She was going to save her lover, no matter the cost.

"Fae no!" leaping, Fiyero manages to wrap his arms around Elphaba's waist. Pulling her to the ground, he crawls on top of her body, preventing her from moving.

"Get off me! Get off me now! I have to save Siefer!" cries Elphaba. Violently, she thrashes beneath Fiyero. Her hands rise, and balling into fists, bashes against Fiyero's sides.

"You're too late" wincing, Fiyero watches as the guards haul his brothers limp body back towards the Palace. "They have him"

"Siefer no!" cries Elphaba. A blast of magick and Fiyero is hurled away. Jumping to her feet, she runs toward the edge of the cliffs, overlooking the castle grounds. Her eyes widen, seeing a large pile of wood stacked at the center, the people crowd around it, each chanting "Death to the Winkie scum"

"Siefer" whimpers Elphaba.

Fiyero and Galinda reach the edge, each panting.

"What…what's happening?" asks Galinda.

"A death" whispers Fiyero. His eyes watch; a haunting glow shimmers in the darkened depths of sapphire and cerulean as his brother's beaten body is hauled up and tied to a large pyre. Blood spills from hideous gash wounds split across his forehead, and almost every square inch of skin, was covered in blood. His right arm hung limp, and in a twisted position at his side.

"A what?" gasps Galinda.

"There sentencing Siefer to death…by fire" croaks Fiyero.

The King and Queen of the Glikkus step towards the pyre, followed by their son, the glint of hatred sparkling in their eyes.

"You have stolen the Princess…where is she!" roars the King.

"Go to hell" chokes out Siefer.

Growling, the King reaches out and grabbing a large mallet from one of the guards, swings it towards Siefer's legs, breaking the bones and his right knee cap.

Howling in pain, Siefer slumps against the ropes.

"Where is she!" growls the King.

"I'll…I'll never tell you" spats Siefer. Rearing his head back, he spits at the Kings feet.

"Lit the fires! Let the Winkie savage burn!" roars the King.

"No!" cries Elphaba. Her heart races, watching the hooded man step towards the pyre, a lighted torch clutched tight in his gloved hand. A snarl and he bangs the torch against the wood.

A spark and the wood sparks to life, the roaring flames rise, half covering Siefer's body.

Throwing his head back, he screams in anguish as his skin melts against the flickering flames, licking at his body. Large char marks spread across his arms and cheeks, before the skin splits and bleeds.

"No!" cries Elphaba. Her legs wobble, before collapsing beneath her. Bowing her head, she allowed the tears she had fought to keep at bay, to spill from her eyes. "Siefer no"

Stepping up next to her, Fiyero slowly falls to his knees and his hand rises and cups her quivering shoulder.

"Don't touch me!" roars Elphaba. Violently, she jerks her shoulder away from Fiyero's grasp. Turning, she glares back at the Dancing through Life Prince, the one who had first shattered her heart and cracked her soul. "how could you…do you hate your brother so much for stealing my heart that you would allow him to throw away his life!?"

"Fae…no"

"Why wasn't it you instead of him!?" roars Elphaba.

"I'm sorry Fae" lowering his gaze, he bows his head in shame.

"Don't call me that! Never call me that!" roars Elphaba.

"Elphie" cries Galinda. Siefer's screams of anguish silence her, stiffening, her gaze shifts, and widens, watching as Siefer thrashes and writhes against his bonds. Half of his skin had melted off, pieces sloughed off his body, and fall to the fiery pit below. Blood pours from the splintered cracks, revealing small flickers of charred bone and muscle. A strangled cry and his eyes lift towards the cliff.

"Fae"

Stiffening, Elphaba turns, and her eyes soften as she gazes back at Siefer. A wince, and her hand flies to her chest. She could feel it, her heart cracking all the more, watching her lover slowly die before her eyes.

"Help…me" whispers Siefer.

Sobbing, Elphaba bows her head. A moment passes, before she lifts her gaze once more. Weakly, she struggles to rise to her feet. Fiyero noticing, steps forward, ready to help steady her. Feeling his movement, throws her hand out, stopping him.
"Don't" snarls Elphaba.

Stiffening, Fiyero nods, before taking a step back.

Rising to her feet, her arm reaches out towards Siefer. A sparkle of glistening gold's and silvers, mingled in twilights of emerald, and an elegant bow appears in her hand. A sob and her free hand pull back on the invisible strings. Slowly, an arrow made of ebony and emerald appears and quivers between her fingers.

"Just for this moment" whimpers Elphaba weakly. "As long as your mine"

"I love you" whispers Siefer.

"Tell me…I'm the only one…and there's nothing left to stop me" closing her eyes, she releases the arrow.

When the lights go out and we open our eyes,
Out there in the silence, I'll be gone, I'll be gone.
Let the sun fade out and another one rise
Climbing through tomorrow, I'll be gone, I'll be gone, I'll be gone.

The arrow slices through the air. A rush of wind and silence.

"And know I'll be here…holding you"

The arrow hits its target, slicing through Siefer's skull, killing him instantly. Slowly his body falls limp as the fire rises, consuming his body, until all that was left, was the crackle of the fire.

As long as your mine…
