Feeling her body united by shavasana Maura sat up and resumed lotus pose, feeling the relaxation run through her body and clear her mind. She focused on her chest rising and falling with each breath.
As she inhaled, her mind continued to settle. Maura allowed the emotions of the last few days to wash over her, not letting any single feeling lock into place. Flashes of anger, sadness, confusion, and fear ran through her but she let desire, longing, adoration, and love sweep everything away.
This was why she meditated. In a place of quiet her emotions were not a threat to her organized existence. Here feelings could come and go without the need to categorize or control them. She did not have to justify or understand. All she needed to do was pay attention to the connection of her body to the space around her.
On the edges of her awareness, Maura heard the floorboards creak. She could feel eyes watching her. Could feel the love surround her and she let the emotion amplify within her soul and mirror the emotion overwhelming her mind.
Fully present, trying to keep the smile off her face, Maura felt Jane carefully settle behind her, sliding legs on either side of her thighs and arms winding around her waist. Jane's forehead pressed between her shoulder blades.
Giving up on formal meditation Maura straightened her legs and wiggled back until Jane was cradling her back. She swept her fingertips lazily back and forth over the arms wrapped around her. She kept her eyes closed and concentrated on the rhythm of Jane's breathing behind her until she could synchronize her own inhalation and exhalation.
As the minutes slipped by Maura kept waiting for Jane to break the moment of peace. For the caged energy that defined her lover to finally break free. But nothing happened. No fidgeting, no sarcastic commentary, not even a single impatient sigh.
And this was from a woman whose existence was one of constant motion. It spoke volumes.
Maura counted off the pattern of their breathing like a metronome. Air in through her nose and out through her mouth, timed with the body against hers. In this place of quiet unison she felt closer to Jane than she ever had to another person and deep within her an ache started.
She turned around and opened her eyes. Her feelings must have been clear because Jane's eyes instantly fell to her lips. The ache built, swelling into need.
In her mind's eye Maura could see Jane as she was first thing this morning in bed. Arms and legs splayed out in sleep, duvet tossed aside with the sheet draped over dusky tipped breasts and legs that seemed to extend for days. Calm, peaceful, and finally hers.
Now Maura straddled those same legs and took Jane's hand and placed it against heat between her thighs. She'd needed to claim earlier but now she wanted to be taken. Jane's lips parted in instant invitation and Maura pressed into the warmth of her mouth. Her heart was thudding in time with brush of their tongues and the teasing sweep of Jane's fingers between her legs.
Maura lifted her head and opened her eyes. Warm chocolate was waiting to capture her, roll over her. Jane's hand moved up and slowly under her waistband, eyes never leaving her as two fingers pushed inside. Her body pounded against the invasion, her breathing was loud and harsh. Slowly Jane started to move, sweeping in where she needed to be filled.
She struggled to keep her eyes trained into Jane's as her hips rocked in an echoing rhythm to the slide of long fingers moving in her. A hand palmed her breast through her top and she instantly pulled it over her head. She tangled her fingers into brunette curls and pulled Jane's mouth onto hers. She lost her breath and her reason as a thumb started to brush against her clit.
She need to find more friction, more connection, more⦠Jane. Maura barely registered breathing that was as rough as her own as she inhaled the smell of soap and belonging. She dragged the scent in and let it fill her. She whimpered when Jane pulled her fingers out, groaned when two became three.
It was almost too much. Maura pulled her mouth away, leaned her forehead against Jane's. Her mind was a symphony of disorganized feeling. The sheer nonsensical clamor made her start shaking. Somehow Jane knew, the hand on her breast moving to tip her chin up until all she could see, hear, and feel was, "I love you."
Jane was around her, in her. Owning her senses, overwhelming her mind. It was all harder, faster. Touch, taste, sound. The sight of Jane was the only thing grounding her, holding her together her as she started to shatter in a blooming rush, melting into arms that held her together.
Maura closed her eyes as tears started to leave a warm track along her cheek. Her breath came out in a shuddering sigh and she found Jane's lips, leaving them pressed together, feeling the pulse of her heartbeat in every place they connected.
When the fingers finally pulled out of her body, Maura felt the hollow sense of loss and she pulled Jane tightly to her. With the soothing touch of Jane's hands caressing her back, Maura focused on her chest rising and falling with each breath. Recognized the sensation of thighs under her legs, wild brunette curls around her face.
As she inhaled, Maura welcomed the feeling of love flowing through her, let it run free through her, imagined it binding them together with invisible strands. As she exhaled, she let the sense of security surround her. "I love you."
Jane closed her arms tightly. "I am never going to get tired of hearing that. I love you too."
The sound of a car door slamming outside startled them both. Maura pressed herself closer and wrapped her arms around Jane's neck. "Maybe it's a neighbor."
They could hear Jane's phone ringing from the bedroom. Jane buried her head into Maura's shoulder. "That's my mother's ringtone." After a minute she straightened up. "Wait a second. Why would I hear car doors slam and THEN hear my mother call me?"
Maura took one look at the gleam in Jane's narrowed gaze and figured the day just got infinitely more complex. "If that was truly your mother then I need to freshen up and get dressed quickly." She started to untangle herself from Jane's hold but the detective had her hands on her hips instantly.
"Not so fast there, dear Doctor." Jane was looking intently at her face so Maura couldn't even begin to deflect. "What are you trying to escape in such a hurry from?"
Maura chewed the inside of her cheek. Tried to keep her breathing even and her eyes open and transparent. "I really should go get dressed, before your mother comes looking for us. You were planning on the red buttondown shirt, right?"
"Yes." Jane was focused on the window, lines of concentration forming along her forehead and her fingers eased their grip.
Maura took her chance, slipping from Jane's hold as she dashed to the bathroom.
