Previously on The Haunt...

"Tell Alfie I'm sorry." Amber touched my shoulder, sending shivers down her spine. A ghost had just touched me. I didn't mean for this to happen. I never meant to hurt him. Please tell him that I'm happy now, where I am. Mick and I have realized that maybe we were supposed to end up here. Together. Tell him he needs to move on." Tears came to Amber's eyes. "He can't dwell on the past. I'm gone. We can't be together anymore."

Eddie shook his head. "There's nothing we can do. All we can do is wait." A hint of a smile appeared on my face. "What are you thinking, Patricia Williamson?" He gave me that stupid smile I fell in love with a long time ago.

"Maybe we should catch him in the act."

"I can already tell this is a bad idea."

"I talked to Eddie earlier, and I was right, he did know something." I stared at my hands. "Fabian told him who he was going after next." I looked back up at Lindsey. "You."

"The house and its residents will be under the supervision of our best officers twenty-four seven. Especially you know who." He sighed.

"I don't trust Eddie, Patricia, and I never will."

"Okay..." I gave him a confused look.

"But we need to know what's going on in his head, you're the only person that can get that from him." He took a step back.

"Are you saying what I think you are?" My breath caught in my throat.

"I want you to get close to him again." Jerome didn't look me in the eye.

"Jerome, no..." Tears started to come to my eyes.

"You need to be with him again. I need to let you go."

"I'm still in love with you, Patricia, and I need you in my life." Eddie pulled me closer. "Can I..?"

I nodded. He leaned in and kissed me, and, this time, I kissed back. I felt the spark that I'd felt before we broke up again, the connection between us, as I pulled him closer, so that our bodies were touching.

Eddie came in behind me and grabbed my hand. I gave him a grateful smile. I saw Jerome from across the room, looking at us, and let go of Eddie's hand. He didn't seem to notice, as he was looking in the opposite direction of Jerome at someone else.

"Alfie?" I furrowed my brow. Why would she talk to him about her problems?

"Yes, Alfie." Lindsey snapped. she sighed and brought her voice back down. "He told me that if I ever needed to talk, he would be there for me."

Now that made sense. Alfie obviously liked Lindsey. After all, she looked very similar to Amber. Why wouldn't he like her?

"In other words, I heard we're getting a new house member? I heard Trudy talking to Victor. He already goes to school here. His name is James."

"Wait, I know this. You're stalking him and you overheard his name, so you decided to see what wonderful thing they were talking about."

"What?" Lindsey looked down. "No..."

Chapter 52: Her love life's complicated

The next day. I sat on my bed with Eddie, our hands intwined. "Are you sure this is going to work." He asked.

I shrug. "It should. I'm pretty successfully when it comes to these kind of things."

"No..." Eddie shook his head. "I mean you and me."

"I don't know." I replied honestly, biting my lip. There was still those feelings for Jerome that kept creeping into the back of my mind. "But I think it's worth the risk."

"Me, too." He smiled, kissing me.

"Ew, guys, keep the PDA to a minimum." Lindsey grimaced as she walked into the room.

We pulled apart and I looked over at her. Her face was red and her voice shook.

"Eddie, um... Can you let me and Lindsey talk...?" I squeezed his hand.

Eddie nodded, giving me a hug instead of a kiss, probably because of what Lindsey said, and left the room.

When I turned to Lindsey, she burst into tears. "What happened?" I questioned, making her sit next to me.

"I..." She took a breath, still sobbing. "I broke up with James."

"What? Why?" My eyes widened.

"I didn't want him to get any more involved." Lindsey wiped some tears away. "And I didn't want him to be upset when I die."

"You're not going to die." I grabbed her hand. "I promise."

"You and I both know there's a very slim chance this plan is going to work." She gave me a wobbly smile. "And death basically follows me everywhere." Lindsey laughed.

"What did he say?" I sighed.

"Um... He asked me if I even remembered what it felt like when we first met... And he told me I was an insensitive bitch... And some other things." Her voice was shaking so badly I could barely make out some of the words.

"Lindsey... I'm so sorry." I pulled her into a hug. "Did you tell him why?"

"I couldn't." Lindsey was trying so hard not to cry, but it wasn't working. "I couldn't do it."

"I'm sorry." I said again. And that's all there was to say.

Later, I walked into the kitchen and grabbed something for both Lindsey and I to eat. She was still in my room, now crying into a pillow. I looked up as Jerome and Alfie walked into the room.

"Patricia." Jerome said, his voice rough.

"Jerome." I replied.

"Awkward." Alfie muttered.

"Alfie, can I speak with you?" I asked.

"I guess." He shrugged, and we went into his room, because no one else was there. "What do you need?"

"Well, I've been meaning to tell you something, I just keep forgetting to. It happened a while ago, I guess." I shuffled my foot.

"Are you going to tell me what that is or just stand there?" Alfie questioned, crossing his arms.

"Well, there was this one day when I actually... Saw Amber." When I looked at him, he didn't seem surprised. I wasn't sure why. "She told me to tell you something."

"Okay?" He rose an eyebrow.

"Amber's sorry, and she wants you to move on. She wants you to be happy, like she is now." I left out the part about Mick on purpose, figuring it would probably hurt him.

"Okay." Alfie nodded his head. "Okay?" I made a puzzled look.

"I get it." He sighed.

"You're not surprised that I saw her?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"No. I mean, if Rufus and Senkhara can come back from hell, why wouldn't Amber be able to come back from heaven?"

"Right." I replied.

"Hey, have you seen Lindsey? I've been meaning to talk to her." There was a hopeful look in his eyes that I hadn't seen from him in a while.

"Yeah, she's in my room." I stopped talking and stared at Alfie. I knew that look. "Wait..." I trailed off, a smile of disbelief crossing my face. "I know what this is about."

"What are you talking about?" He started switching his balance from one foot to the other.

"When Amber said she wanted you to move on, she didn't mean to Lindsey." I smirked at him.

"Why exactly do you think that?" His face turned red.

I laughed. "Everyone knows you just like Lindsey because she looks pretty similar to Amber."

"That's not true." Alfie replied quickly. "Lindsey is the coolest girl I've ever met. She's nice, and funny, and she's so easy to talk to, and she's beautiful, and just perfect in every way." He took a deep breath and glanced at me.

"I know." I sighed. "I just didn't realize you did." I trailed off for a second. "But I still don't think you should just..."

"That's not what I even needed to talk to her about." Alfie cut me off. "And you're wrong."

He left the room, and I felt the guilt creep into my mind. So maybe I was a little harsh. But I still didn't think it was a good idea.

I turned as someone came in. My breath got caught in my throat as Jerome closed the door behind him. He stared at me for a second.

"We need to talk."

Keep guessing who the killer is, because I'm not guaranteeing that Fabian is or isn't the killer. ;) You never know...
