Chapter 50

Clary's POV

Simon had left a short while ago when his mother pulled up outside, blasting her horn, but the storm continued to rage on outside.

The rain that pelted against the windows was so heavy that I could barely see across the street and we still had no power.

"Stupid storm..." I muttered as I packed away the board games we had been playing, jumping as another loud clap of thunder rumbled through the sky.

Thankful that I hadn't dropped the board games, I put them away and went back into the living room, lying down on the couch.

"How much longer is this storm going to last? It's been going on for hours..." I said as I stared at the ceiling.

"I'm not able to see the future Clary, so I can't tell you," Mom replied as she came out of the kitchen.

I sighed and just started playing with one of the cushions on the couch.

"I haven't seen a storm this bad in years," I heard Luke say.

"I know... I think the last time we had weather like this, Clary was about ten years old..." Mom replied.

I soon stopped listening to their conversation as they started talking about wedding plans again. I was happy for them, but sometimes the wedding talk got extremely boring and I couldn't handle listening to it.

Getting off the couch, I made my way to my room and sat on my bed with my sketchpad and started drawing, simply trying to erase my boredom.

-o-O-o-

As the daylight began to fade I closed my sketchpad and put my pencil away. Glancing at my phone, I saw that it was now almost 7pm and the storm outside was still going strong. The rain had slowed briefly but became heavy again, the wind had picked up and – to my dismay – we still had no power.

"Mom... what are we going to have for dinner?" I asked as I made my way downstairs. Mom and Luke were still seated at the kitchen table, papers in front of them and a battery operated light sitting on the table so they could see. "Since we have no power," I added.

"I don't know Clary," Mom replied. "Obviously I can't cook anything... if we had gas, I would be able to do something but we won't have gas installed until next month, as you already know... the best I can do is make some sandwiches..."

I sighed and sat down at the table. Moments later, I found myself glancing at the door in confusion. I was almost certain I had heard someone knock on the door.

"Who would be here in this weather?" Mom asked, mainly to herself, as she got up to answer the door.

Curious, I followed her.

She pulled the door open and despite the fact that it was dark outside and we had no light inside, apart from the few battery operated lights, I could clearly make out the people standing in the doorway.

"Jace?" I said, walking up behind my mother.

"Hey Clary," Jace replied with a smile. "We thought you could use some food... Half of Manhattan is without power and I know you don't have gas yet... or a generator... so I convinced Mom to cook something and come over here," he continued.

I smiled. "You really didn't have to do that," I said.

Jace simply shrugged. "Well, I did and there's nothing you can do about it now."

I laughed slightly. "I'll be back... I'll get you guys some towels... you're soaking wet," I said.

"That won't be necessary Clary," Celine said. "We're going to head back home."

"Don't be ridiculous," Mom said. "It's pouring out there... Stay here until the storm passes... if it ends up continuing through the night, we have a spare room and the couch here has a fold-out bed. You're more than welcome to stay."

Jace just looked at his mother who smiled. "That's a lovely offer Jocelyn but..."

"Don't turn it down please Celine," I said. "Summer wouldn't be very fun if you got sick... well... if Jace got sick..."

"I don't get sick. Illness fears me because I'm so awesome," Jace said, a sarcastic smile on his face.

"Yeah, yeah Jace..." I said.

Celine sighed. "Alright..."

Mom allowed Celine and Jace inside and I went off to the bathroom to get some towels.

I returned to the living room moments later. "Here," I said, handing them the towels.

"Thank you Clary," Celine said while Jace just smiled at me.

I smiled back. "No problem," I said. "Where did my mom go?" I asked, noticing she wasn't in the doorway with Celine and Jace.

"She went to put the food in the kitchen and she said she was going to get some clothes so we weren't wearing these wet ones while we're here because, obviously we have no idea how long this storm is going to last," Jace said.

"Oh," I said, looking back at the hallway as Mom returned. "These are some of Jonathan's old clothes... I think they'll fit you Jace... and these should fit you Celine," Mom said, handing over the clothes. "There's a bathroom down the hall and another one upstairs," she continued.

"I'll start serving the food... Clary, can you show Celine and Jace where the bathrooms are... and send your brother down as well," Mom said, heading off to the kitchen.

"Alright," I said, grabbing a couple of battery operated lights before leading Celine and Jace down the hall. "There's one bathroom," I said, pointing at the door.

Jace glanced at his mom. "You can use that one Mom... wouldn't want you getting sick," Jace said.

Celine simply nodded and took a light before she went into the bathroom, shutting the door. As she moved though, I saw the look that passed over her face, and I could tell that we were thinking the same thing.

"You told her she could use that bathroom because you wanted to be alone with me, am I right?" I asked as I began walking towards the stairs.

"Partially... I really don't want her getting sick either though," Jace said, smirking as he followed me.

I laughed slightly and led Jace upstairs. "Just use my bathroom," I said, opening my bedroom door and pointing towards my bathroom.

Jace just smiled at me, kissed my head, took another light and then walked into the bedroom before heading to my bathroom.

Once the bathroom door shut I darted across the hall and knocked on Jonathan's door. "Mom said to send you downstairs... Jace and Celine brought some food over and they're staying for dinner... and until the storm passes..." I said.

I heard Jonathan move in the room and he emerged a moment later. "Alright... what did they bring? And how do they have power when we don't?"

"I think it's some kind of pasta dish... and they have gas," I said.

Jonathan just nodded and messed up my hair before walking down the hall. I glared after him and tried to fix my hair. As I was combing my fingers through my curls, I heard something hit the floor in my bedroom and I smirked.

Turning, I had to keep myself from laughing. "You broke my door Jace!" I said as seriously as I could.

"Uh..." I heard Jace said from the other side of the bathroom door. "I didn't break it... it's falling for me... falling apart..." Jace said.

"Quit the sarcastic remarks. You broke it," I said. He didn't really; my door handle fell off all the time – Luke had to fix it. Jace didn't know this fact though, so I decided to have some fun.

"I didn't break it. It's falling for me. It's falling apart under my touch," Jace said, a little more confidently this time.

I walked over to the door and picked up the handle and peered through the place the handle should go. I could see Jace on the other side holding the other handle. I laughed slightly.

"See... you find me amusing," Jace said, leaning down so that he was peering through the hole as well. "Now how do I get out?"

"Well... I guess we would have to put the handle back together... but you broke it so maybe I should just leave you in there... I mean, you have everything you need to survive in there... other than food... but I'm sure I could slide some cheese slices under the door..." I said, smirking.

"Quit it Clary... you can't keep me in here forever," Jace said.

"I can..." I said, playing with the handle.

"But you won't..." Jace said.

"Yes I will," I said, stepping back and moving away from the door so Jace couldn't see me. I tried my best not to laugh when Jace started talking again.

"Clary? Clary come on..." he said.

I laughed and moved back to the door. "Put the handle back," I said with a smile.

Once the handle was back in place, I put the other part on and managed to get the door open.

As soon as it was open, Jace stepped forward and put his hands on my waist before crushing his lips to mine in a passionate kiss.

I reached up and tangled my fingers in his damp hair, kissing him back.

I wasn't aware of the fact we were moving until I felt the back of my legs hit my bed. I ended up losing my balance and I pulled Jace down onto the bed, not wanting to break our kiss.

His hands moved from my waist and instead, he used them to support his weight so he wasn't crushing me.

All of a sudden, a bright light filled the room and Jace pulled back.

I blinked a few times and let my eyes adjust to the sudden brightness.

"Well... look at that... our kiss created electricity and we have brought the power back," Jace said.

I laughed. "You say some of the most random things Jace..." I said.

Jace simply shrugged. "And by the way, if you had left me in the bathroom, I wouldn't have been able to kiss you ever again," he said.

"I'm sure the door wouldn't mind if you kissed it... since it was falling for you," I said, smirking.

Jace chuckled.

"Clary, Jace! Where are you?" I heard Mom call.

I covered my mouth for a moment. "The bathroom door handle broke again! Luke needs to fix it!" I called back.

"Wait... again? I didn't break it, did I?" Jace said.

"You did break it... this time... but yes, it's being doing that for a while," I said. "Come on... we better get down to the kitchen."

"Alright..." Jace said, kissing me again, but softly this time. "And I will get you back for that..." he added with a smirk as he stood up.

I sighed and got up as well. As we were walking out of the room, Luke appeared. "You got the door fixed?" he asked.

"Yes... this time... but you need to fix it so it doesn't break again," I said.

Luke nodded. "I'll get to work on that tomorrow," he said.

I nodded and followed Luke back downstairs with Jace beside me, smiling when I caught the scent of Celine's pasta dish.
