She's gone
…...
I feel like I'm floating...
Sansa slowly opened her eyes and looked around the dimly lit room she was in. She felt herself swaying in a bed and the room felt like it was spinning. As she went to sit up, sharp pains from her belly made her cry out and fall back, "Your grace!" She looked to her left and saw a guard with a lion and stage upon his armor. Sansa gave a weak smile, "Tommen sent you?" He walked to her and nodded, "You are safe now, your grace. The King and your children are on deck." She nodded and as he continued to look over her, he saw the sweat beading off of her forehead, "You need a Maester. I shall return shortly."
She watched him run from the room and it wasn't a few moments later he returned with an old man and a handmaiden. But as he was about to close the door, Sandor entered and ran to her bedside, "Little bird!" Sansa took his hand in hers and took a deep breath as the Maester began looking over her. But when he lifted her legs to check the baby, he gasped and looked at them, "Your grace, I am sorry."
Both looked at him in worry, "What is it? Is it the baby?" He shook his head, "Your child is alive inside of you, but you have an infection." Sansa cried out as more pain came from her lower belly and Sandor looked at her wet sleep gown. He gave her hand a squeeze and growled, "He did this to you. I will find him, little bird." The Maester bowed his head and whispered, "My King, I must speak with you." Sandor shook his head, "Whatever you have to say you will say it to both the Queen and myself." Sansa looked up at the old man, tears on her face mixed with sweat, her hands shaking from the infection. He sighed,
"The infection I have come across is in a horrible state. It is very rare for a woman to survive such an extreme illness. I-I have medicine that may be able to help it, but the infection is so far along, I am not sure if she will make it."
He looked at Sansa and frowned, "I will try to save you, your grace. I promise you that." Sansa nodded and looked at Sandor, "It's too early to take him out. If-If I die, so will he." Sandor shook his head, "You'll be fine, Sansa, don't talk-"
"Did you hear him? AH!"
Sansa clenched forward and fell back to her pillow, "I'm dying, Sandor! I'm dying..." Her words trailed off as he placed a large hand on her belly and felt her strong baby kick, "I won't let you die. You have children that need you. A kingdom that needs your guidance. I need you." The Maester returned with a bottle and gently applied it to her infection. Sansa felt a cooling sensation rush over her and she whispered, "I am cold." Sandor pulled the covers over her and stood from her beside, "Your grace, I have done all that I can do. Pray to the Gods."
…...
Arya awoke in the arms of her husband during the night. She looked down at him as she stood naked and walked from the bed to the washroom. When she returned, John was sitting at the end of the bed holding her robe in his hands. She smiled as he stood and placed it on her, tying it for her, "You have slept very little, little wife." Arya nodded, "There is still no word on Sansa's safety. I fear for her and my family, John."
He walked around her and brought her to the balcony where they stood side by side in the quiet night air. He pointed to the sky, "Look. The stars are shining bright for your sister." Arya hummed and whispered, "All stars could be brighter. The night they shine the brightest is the night I know she and Sandor are safe." John sighed and gave her a kiss on the cheek before he left her on the balcony alone. Arya closed her eyes as a gust of wind seemed to pass through her and she whispered, "Father, save her."
…...
Tommen looked down at the scroll in his hand and smiled at it before looking at his council of Tyrion and Stannis, "Sansa Stark and family are safe aboard my ships, sailing for Kings Landing at high speed. But she is ill and fighting infection from assault by Bolton." Stannis stood, "He will be found, your grace." Tommen nodded as Tyrion stood, "I will have them prepare her rooms and have rooms for the children prepared."
…...
Back aboard the ship, Sansa was shaking uncontrollably as Sandor tried holding her, "Sansa, you have to calm down." She shook her head, "I am cold and weak." He held her tighter and when he did she cried out, "I don't want to die!" At her cry, the children rushed in, "Mama! You're awake!" Baelfire picked up his little sister and put her on the bed, "Mama, I never want to go on adventures again. Marian and I did not like that man." Sansa could not help but smile through her tears and shaking, "Oh, my sweet children."
Sandor let her go and grabbed Marian, "Children, say goodnight to your mother." Sansa looked at him and back at Baelfire who was hugging her, "Tomorrow, shall we fish from the deck?" Sansa stared at the wall behind him as her young son hugged her, "Mama?" She jumped back into attention and looked down at him, taking his small face in her hands, "Yes. I shall fish with you and watch over you." Baelfire nodded and jumped off the bed as Marian gave her mother a kiss, "Mama? Read a story." Sandor shook his head, "Marian, your mother is too tired." Sansa nodded, "I shall read to you every night after tonight."
Sandor's heart was breaking for he knew Sansa thought she would die on that night. She was pale, her eyes dark, her hair was limp, but yet their child was surviving. Sansa was not even seven moons along and should they have him taken out, he would not survive. The boy was destined to die if his mother did. As the children were brought out of the room by a nursemaid, the Maester entered and watched as Sansa lay back in the bed, "Your grace, I wish to look over the Queen and to speak to her in solitude." Sandor nodded and left the room as the Maester sat on the side of her bed and took her trembling hand. He smiled, "Do you remember me? I was the Maester that looked over you after you were attacked by the mob in Kings Landing. You poor child."
Sansa nodded, "I remember. Now look at me." He nodded in understanding and lifted her nightgown to press a hand to her belly to feel her live child. He looked at her, "There is nothing I can do, your grace." Sansa nodded and took a deep breath as pain went through her, "I know I will die soon. Am I to make my final wish to you?" He nodded and took out paper and a quill to write down her wishes,
"I, Sansa Stark Clegane of Winterfell, hereby leave Winterfell and the North to the King, Sandor Clegane. My son, Baelfire Clegane, is to receive Clegane's Keep upon his father's order and will marry Victoria Lannister of House Lannister and become the heir to Casterly Rock with his wife. My daughter, Marian Clegane, will inherit Winterfell and the North upon her father's death. My body shall be placed with my mother, brother, and father in the Winterfell catacombs. My sister, Arya Stark, will receive any coin she needs along with my brothers."
The old man nodded as he finished and Sansa, with a shaking hand, signed the scroll. As if she was holding on just to give her final wish as Queen, a loud gasp came from her lips, which made Sandor rush into the room. Sansa grabbed his hand and Sandor looked up at the Maester from his place on the floor, "She is dying." Sandor took her face in his hands and whispered, "Sansa? Can you hear me?"
Sansa could not speak as she stared into his eyes. Her eyes moved back and forth as if looking for something and he whispered, "Look into my eyes. Look at me!" She did and he whispered, "I have always loved you. You can see it my eyes." He thought he saw her smile once more before a strangled breath escaped her lips and she fell limp in his hands. Sandor shook his head and began to sob as he looked down at his wife, limp in his hands, her eyes still open, but the life drained from her. The Maester bowed his hand and spoke in a language Sandor did not understand before he and the two guards left the room to announce the Queen's death. As they left, the Maester pulled a scroll from his pocket, "Send a raven to King Tommen. Queen Sansa Clegane is dead."
As they were gone, Sandor placed Sansa back onto the bed, closed her eyes with his hand and laid next to her, sobbing as he held her and placed a hand on her belly. Her heart had stopped, but the flutter in her stomach still went, as though their child was wondering what happened. It would not be long before the child would die as well.
…...
Sansa covered her eyes as a white light drifted over her. She was dressed in white and she still had her pregnant belly. She frowned as a voice whispered, "It wasn't your time." Sansa turned and saw Shae, Catelyn, Ned, and Robb looking at her. Sansa cried and they went to her, each giving her a kiss on the cheek, "You have to go back, Sansa."
"How? I am dead, aren't I?"
Shae nodded and stepped forward, "But you are still alive. Here and here." She touched Sansa's heart and belly, "He is not yet dead, Sansa. You will heal and you will live to raise your children." Sansa looked around at her family, "But I want to stay. You are all here." Ned smiled warmly at his daughter, "But what of your husband? The brave man you have been through so much with." Sansa nodded and looked around, "I love him. I-I have to go back." Catelyn stepped forward and took her daughters hand, "You will live for a long time, Sansa. We watch over you and Arya and we are so proud of you."
Sansa smiled and looked around at them, "Thank you so much. But now, my family needs me." She turned around and began to walk away from them, but stopped and turned, "I love you all."
…...
Sandor wiped his face and stood from the bed, looking down at Sansa's still form. She had been dead for nearly several minutes when he finally decided to go and see the children. But as he left the room and shut the door, Sansa's fingers, which rested on her belly, twitched and moved. After another moment, Sansa opened her eyes and took a deep breath. When she finally could breathe again, Sansa felt that familiar kicked and movement in her belly. She slowly sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed.
"I'm alive."
She smiled to herself and rubbed her belly as she felt she was no longer hot from fever or weak. She still felt a burning pain where she was infected, but it mattered not. She stood and slowly walked to the door of her cabin in her long white nightgown. She stumbled on her feet a bit but she managed to open the door, "Sandor?" As the ship went from side to side, Sansa used one arm to wrap around her belly as she used the other to guide her against the wall towards the steps to the deck. She struggled very little to get up the steps and when she did, the wind was hard and she saw Sandor and the children hand in hand with the Maester and the ship of men with their heads bowed.
Sansa frowned and weakly called out, "Sandor?" Upon hearing his name, Sandor lifted his head and looked at her, his heart nearly bursting, "Seven hells." The others looked at her and gasped as the children giggled and ran to her, "Mama!" Sansa smiled and hugged them to her legs, which they were grabbing onto for dear life. She smiled and looked at Sandor again, who was slowly walking to her. The Maester, however, sunk to his knees and cried, "Regina vitae! Regina vitae!" He bowed to the floor and the men on the ship, including the guards all went to one knee and repeated his words, "Regina vitae!" Sandor stopped in front of her and stared, "You died in my arms. And-And the babe-" He pressed a hand to her belly and she smiled, "He has quickened once more. I saw my family Sandor and they sent me back to you."
Sandor smiled and kissed her hard on the lips before falling to one knee and saying, "Regina vitae." He bowed his head and Sansa looked around at the bowing men who were crying out those words. She frowned, "What do they mean?" Sandor took her hand and kissed it, "Queen of Life." He stood again and lifted her in his arms, kissing her again, "You need to rest."
