Bunny had asked himself the same question over and over again. No matter how much he tried… there was no right answer. There were just so many things he could have done… so many things they could have prevented by doing things differently. Such tiny little things… such so many stupid unimportant things that would have however changed everything… that by doing them or not… they would have been able to prevent it all from happening…

And that thought was the one that hurt him the most. It hunted him... it wouldn't go away and he didn't dare stop it… he didn't have the right…

No, he deserved this… if he had only been faster… if they had only been more careful… if they had only made sure that… that…

…If… if they had only seen it coming… but… how could they have...?

…No… doesn't matter how… they should have still been clever enough… bright enough… they should have been careful enough… they… they should have been enough… being with him should have been enough… being there for him should have been enough…

…But it hadn't.

They had failed him so many freakin' times!

They had promised! They had promised they would always, always be there fer him. They had promised they would make it up ta him… they had promised they would take care of him… that they would make sure ta be with him… ta never ever leave him alone… nor let him think he was alone… nor let anybody tell him otherwise…

… That they would always… always

protect him…

And yet…

Bunny felt a shiver travel through his spine. Something wasn't right, wasn't right at all. He glanced at the others. They were all talking at the pole about work and children.

He wasn't listening anymore though; he was way too wrapped in thought for that.

He glanced down to his chest and stomach… something was off… it didn't hurt, but… it was as if something inside him was being squeezed or something. And it was getting harder to breath.

He was so confused about this all that he didn't realized the frost climbing up the arm of his chair until it got to his fur. He gave a slight jump as his eyes turned to his right.

Only then did he realize how the frost had made its way through a great part of the floor and a part of the table. How come he hadn't realized it before?! It was freakin' freezing!

His head shot up ready to scold the kid before his voice died in the middle of his throat.

Jack wasn't listening to the others either, nor was he playing instead. And Bunny couldn't help it to flinch at the sigh.

Jack was deep in thought while breathing slightly loud as if he was having a hard time getting air into his lungs. His right hand was strongly gripping his staff while his left one held his lower chest. And his expression… Bunny couldn't tell. It was full of fear and confusion, both very disturbing feelings to be seen in the Spirit of Winter's face.

Bunny bent forward towards Jack but before he could place his paw on Jack's shoulder he realized the rest had gone quiet after he had moved and looked at them. They were all looking at them with confused expressions as he unconsciously shrugged to let them know he didn't know what was happening either.

Sandy was sitting at Jack's right looking at the teen with a worried expression. He had his arms spread on the table towards him under which the table was covered with frost. Tooth was glancing at all of them worriedly while North looked at Jack with wide eyes.

Bunny gulped and the others bent forward as his paw went towards Jack's shoulder, but just as he was about to do it Jack suddenly flinched with a gasp, eyes widening even more while his hand pressed harder against his chest.

Their worry grew as soon as they saw that. Bunny's eyes widened and was about to say something only to be cut by a sudden stabbing-like feeling in his chest, his other paw gripping at his fur as a way to make it stop.

It didn't hurt, but it felt like dread itself spreading through his body… and it made him feel sick.

"Jack?" asked Tooth with worried eyes "Jack, what is it? What's wrong?" she hovered above the table making her way towards him. When North stood up and walked around the table to get to Jack they all suddenly heard a clattering sound. Their gaze followed the sound to find an elf had fallen off a chair along with an eggnog cup. Only then did they realize the strong wind making its way around their youngest guardian.

Sandy moved closer to him after getting what had made the elf fall. Bunny finally placed his paw on Jack's shoulder.

"Jack, mate?" he asked with a paranoid voice, but Jack wouldn't flinch.

Then suddenly the wind made a whining kind of sound which even they were able to hear.

Jack stood up with a jump knocking the chair to the floor as his breath hitched with a gasp and his eyes widened in utter horror. The others were startled by the sudden change and could only stay still with surprise as they saw Jack's eyes darting towards the window, then to the sailing and then to Bunny who still had his paw on his shoulder with a firm grip.

It all lasted a second and before they could react Jack was darting out of the window full speed with such an impulse that the elves near him were thrown back.

Tooth hovered uncertainly while trying to decide what to do. Sandy had already darted after him, so Tooth glanced at North one last time before flying after the Guardian of dreams.

Maybe it was due to the adrenaline, he didn't know, but Bunny was able to keep it together for as long as it took for them to find Jack. He wanted to go through his tunnels but most certainly wouldn't be able to catch Jack's scent there. Tooth and Sandy would probably be out of sight by now so North would need his nose to follow them.

"North!" he yelled to the man who was already leaving the room "Ah'm coming with ya!" and although he was confused, North didn't ask.

To say the yetis were confused was an understanding. North had suddenly started yelling for them to ready the sleight while Phil tried to ask him what was going on, although he had stopped in tracks the moment North had turned around and shot him an 'if looks could kill' look.

Sandy flew as fast as he could but after a few seconds Jack had became a little blue dot in front of him. He then heard Tooth calling for him and Jack. However he could not stop now, so he could only hope that Tooth would be able to catch up with him.

Tooth was almost behind him when a second red/brownish dot appeared in his line of view getting closer to Jack.

Sandy and Tooth could only gasp as both dots kept getting closer to each other until they both clashed and fell a few miles down.

"Jack!" Tooth called as they saw both forms stop their descent now floating next to each other. The two guardians made their way towards the two who had pained expressions wile caressing their heads and sides which already had a few burn marks. But before they could asked what had happened the two boys (yep, the other dot was Sunny) they had both looked forward as if they hadn't even noticed the presence of the other or the fact that they had hit each other before shooting forward again.

They both hurried after them again trying not to lose the elemental's tracks while hearing the sound of bells behind them.

"Keep goin'!" Bunny was yelling "Just follow 'em!" while holding his body as tightly as he could to the sleight and sniffing the air.

Now that they had finally caught up to them Bunny could finally make his way through the recent events. And truth be told he was outright scared.

The feeling inside him had grown stronger and he couldn't take Jack's face off his mind. When he had looked at him it had been with such a horrified expression… he had never seen Jack like that.

He gulped and looked at North.

"I feel it too" North suddenly said without looking back at him. Bunny stayed silent while letting North's words sink in.

Suddenly both Tooth and Sandy headed downwards and so did them.

It was like any other day. There was a weird feeling though that he couldn't quite place, but he laughed it off once Wind brushed his hair making him giggle.

"Alright, ready to go freeze Bunny's ears?" and Wind sang in glee.

They arrived at the pole followed by Sandy who was complaining about cats and their stupid concept of sand without realizing his thoughts had reached his sand pictures. Jack had almost fallen to the floor from laugher before hurrying to tell North while Sandy tried to stop him.

So that's how Tooth had arrived to find the Sandman trying to… kill (it really seemed like that was his goal) the other two to which Bunny had joined soon enough. After that (Tooth was the one to stop the possible massacre) had they started the meeting.

Tooth had been the first one to go. Then Sandy, then North. That was when he had suddenly felt as if he was being torn from the inside. It hurt and it made him feel like sick. And mostly, fear. He gasped as he felt Wind hovering around him with concern. He wanted to make Wind know he was okay but he couldn't talk. It was getting harder to breathe and he felt like crying for not reason whatsoever. Pure paranoia. Panic attack. He didn't know, but whatever it was… it felt like death… not like dying that is, but death itself... just that.

The feeling kept growing sharper. He felt like being trapped, being trapped without any way of escaping or asking for help. No hope. No nothing.

Suddenly, the same feeling shot through his frame as a lightning and he heard himself gasping. Sharp horrifying fear and painful dread. But now he could almost tell what was going on, what was really happening and it was just on the tip of his tongue. And whatever it was… it was awful…

The pain kept increasing until…

No…

He was suddenly brought back by Wind's call. No. It couldn't be true. But Wind… Wind would know… and Wind would always, always be right.

He glanced at the window. He had to get out of there. He looked at Wind. He didn't want to believe it. He looked to his side as he became aware of the real world.

Bunny.

No.

How would- how would he tell Bunny?

And then he was flying.

Then he was being caressed by Wind asking if he was okay.

Then he was flying again.

And then… there had been silence. And pain.

They landed in the middle of a forest. But not any forest. No, Mother Nature's forest.

Bunny hopped off the sleight before it could touch the floor and he hurried after Tooth and Sandy trying to ignore the dizziness left by the flight.

He could hear North's heavy footsteps behind him and Tooth calling for Jack before gasping in utter shock.

The feeling inside him was now almost unbearable and it wouldn't go away, but he kept running anyway as the feeling kept growing sharper, even though his gut kept screaming for him to stop in tracks and run away.

And then... there had been silence. And pain as well.

Sandy's eyes widened as he took in the sight in front of him. He was able to hear Tooth's and North's reactions next to him, but he didn't care.

They were in the middle of the forest in the beautiful clearing were he knew seasonal were to meet. But right now, it was the last place on earth he wanted to be in.

He didn't realize he was moving forward until he was next to Bunny instead of behind him. He looked both at him and Jack. Then at the others. And he… he had no words… as stupid as that sounded…

Leavy had been flying when she felt it. For a moment she had panicked… she felt fear like never before and for no apparent reason. She felt like crying also and for a moment there she had thought she might hyperventilate and pass out in the middle of the sky.

What the hell was happening? What was this horribl-

No…

And she was flying full speed towards the woods while crying along with Wind.

He gasped as he felt tears burning in his cheeks. Suddenly there was a hole inside him… and it hurt so damn bad.

He didn't realize he was flying until he fell. He heard Wind telling him something about injuries but he ignored it before hurrying towards the source of all.

And when he arrived… everything stopped.

North had stopped in tracks.

Oh no…

Tooth gasped and looked at Bunny, but she wouldn't manage to make a sound. Not one tiny, tiny sound…

Bunny couldn't breathe. He had just stood there like stone, eyes wide open unable to blink, probably the same reason why tears hadn't formed yet.

His breath hitched, heart beating so hard it felt as if it would explode anytime.

He felt something inside him crushing down and he didn't know why he hadn't stumble to his knees yet.

To see her like this… it just hurt so damn much… way too much.

And it made him wanna scream… and cry…

During the night, in the depths of a thick forest in New Guinea, an evil laugh is able to be heard in the middle of shadows as dark golden eyes glance towards the flora.

It was crying. The trees, the flowers, the life.

Narrowed eyes shone in triumph.

"It is only starting…"
