I arrive in Atlanta where I will be meeting Dr Andrews where he will be performing my surgeries. From what I've been told it looks like I'll be out of action for 8-9 months which is a pain because I could be forgotten and I don't want that.

Arriving at the hospital they sign me into a private room. I've been on so much medication I really haven't been able to fully accept my injuries but I know it's bad, but it could have been worse I could have done more damage and it could have ended my career.

I am currently in my room laying on my bed when an older man walks in. "Hi Serena I'm Dr Andrews I've had a look at your X-rays and MRIs and we have come up with a strategy." He introduces himself.

"Hi." I respond.

"Tomorrow your surgery will consist of repairing the break around your neck." he announces. "The surgery following that, will be finishing that same repair and putting a screw in where your shoulder blade had a brake, then moving on to repair the dislocation in your shoulder. You are only scheduled for two surgerys but if you need a third that will be for if any complications that may arise. After all your surgeries you will then be sent to a rehab centre further in town where you will begin to slowly begin your recovery." He explains further.

"So it's gotten worse?" I ask.

"Yes, it's a nasty injury but we will do everything we can to make it as easy and pain free as possible but it will be tough." he warns and leaves me to think.

"Mum?"

"I'm here." She responds coming to my bedside.

"I'm scared."

"I know sweetie but I'm going to be here to help you as much as I can."

"What about your wedding?" I ask.

"The wedding can wait my daughter is more important." I go to sleep that night worried about my surgery for tomorrow but I have to trust Dr Andrews and his team that they know what they are doing.

The next morning I wake up in pain. The nurses feed me medication and prep me for my surgery. I say goodbye to my mum as she signs some paper work for me and they send me into the operating room.

I see Dr Andrews is already in the OR and my x rays and MRIs are show on the monitors. I see an anaesthesiologist by the bed. "Hi Serena, I'm Dr Jacobs I'm going to be putting you to sleep and will be observing you through your surgeries." he tells me. He then asks me to make a fist and to open and close it. "This will sting a little, what I want you to do is count backwards from ten for me."

I nod as I feel the prick of the needle. "10, 9, 8.."

A few hours later I wake up groggy and sick after the surgery. "Welcome back Miss Smith, just rest you will be quite uncomfortable for a couple days so just rest and Dr Andrews will be in shortly." A nurse informs me.

I feel myself drifting off to sleep when Dr Andrews comes in. "How are you feeling?" he asks.

"Drowsy and sore." I groan.

"That's normal, but the surgery went well. You just need to rest and I will come and check on you soon. Your nurses will be observing you throughout the night, so if you need anything just press this button and they will help you."

"Thank you." I thank.

"No problem get some sleep."

I feel myself falling asleep. "Just go to sleep Miss Smith you're going to be fine." my nurse whispers.

A couple hours later I wake up and I am back in my private room. I see flowers, cards, balloons, and my mother in a recliner chair in the corner sleeping. I see my nurse at the end of my bed writing down notes. "How you feeling?" she asks coming over.

"Thirsty." I croak.

"That's normal, I'll get you some water." she responds and retrieves a cup from the side table. "Don't overdo it just suck softly."

I suck through the straw slowly. "Thanks."

"How's your pain?"

"Can't really feel anything."

"You've been dosed up on pain relief since you had your injury and the anaesthetic is still wearing off, but so far you're doing well." she informs me. "You will be very tired for the next couple days the surgery was very hard on your body so don't push it and just rest."

The next few days are the same, I'm groggy and in pain, but I am sitting up a fraction more. I am playing with my phone when I hear footsteps come into my room.

I look up at the doorway and I see Colby. I didn't think he would come see me. "Hi." I greet.

"How you feeling?" he asks stepping into the room.

"Tired."

"That's a given you've been through a traumatic injury." he responds. "Did they say how long you will be here for?"

"A couple months."

"I'm so sorry this happened to you." He apologises.

"You didn't do anything wrong."

"Then why do I feel so guilty?"

"Because we haven't actually talked about what happened and the last few weeks have been bad on both of us."

"I'm so sorry about what I said to you."

"We both said things." I retort.

"I shouldn't have said it though, what I said was hurtful and nowhere near the truth, I was hurt and I just wanted an excuse."

"What you said was hurtful, but I get it; coming from my end it looked bad I admit. But I wanted to tell you so that things would be easier for you, but now I know I shouldn't have shown you those pictures."

"I truly am sorry." He apologises.

I smile. "You're forgiven."

"You scared everyone you know."

"I know."

"Now is the time to get better, not just physically."

"I will."

"You promise?"

"I promise and when I do get better I will be back to my original self."

"I better go I have a flight to catch." He announces.

"Thanks for visiting me and for the chocolates."

"You're welcome." he says walking closer to me and kisses my cheek. "Get better."

"Hey Colby." I shout as he is about to exit.

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for being there for me."

He smiles. "Anytime."

The next week goes by quickly and I start have a little more motion in my neck even though I can't move it. My mum flew back to Miami yesterday but she checks in hourly.

One particular day I hear familiar voices come to my room. I smile and see the total divas crew come in my room. "Rena." They squeal.

"Hi."

"How you feeling?" JoJo asks me.

"Sore but I can move my neck a little bit but I have a long way to go." I respond.

"We are sorry this happened to you." Nicole apologises.

"I am too but things happen and you just have to pick yourself up, so that's what I am going to do." I tell them. "How's WWE?"

"It's definitely not the same without you."

"Well of course it wouldn't be, I'm the fun one."

"Did you hear they had to vacate your title and inform everyone what happened?" Nattie asks.

I nod. "Stephanie and Paul didn't want to do it, but it was on world wide television they had to do damage control."

"Are you sad to not be champion anymore?" JoJo asks.

"I cried when I had to give it back but WWE needs a champion that is going to be there, so I hope one of you get it." I respond.

"We better get going." Nattie announces.

"Thanks for visiting."

"We're all here for for you." Nikki whispers.

It has now been over three weeks since my first operation and I have started to take small walks. I'm still in the neck brace and have someone with me at all times. I am seeing doctor Andrews today to see how my progress has come.

When I enter the room Dr Andrews has several MRI scans up. "So this is your first MRI from before your surgery." he shows me. "You can see all the contusion around here where the damage is in your neck." he continues and changes slides. "This MRI is your one from this morning."

I observe it and see less contusions. "That's just after three and bit weeks of rest?" I ask.

"Yes. Now your next surgery will be scheduled in few weeks."

"Okay, and we are doing more of what you've recently done?"

He nods. "Yes but repairing it all." he answers. I smile shyly. "How do you feel?"

"Still sore but having less pain."

"Just keep up with what you're doing, but don't push it, I can tell you're a fighter."

My mum and Eliza flew in today and we are on my bed playing Go Fish. "Do you have an ace?" Eliza asks me.

I look at my cards. "Go fish." I respond and she picks up a card from the middle. "How's the wedding planning?"

"Good. I got a lot more RSVPs." Mum answers.

"Turned into bridezilla yet?"

"No."

"Do you have a 6?" Eliza asks me.

I frown. "Yes I do." I answer handing her the card. She smiles fondly and discards her pair.

That afternoon I relax with my mum and soon to be step sister and we have a fun time. They leave me once the sun sets later that day. Before I close my eyes I smile at how my life is. It may not be the best circumstances but I have my mum in my life again after years of neglect and I will have a step sibling and step father who are great, it's a win, win.

The three weeks fly by and it's time for my next surgery. Hospital staff prep me in my room and roll me out towards the OR. Today's surgery is repairing the rest of the contusions in my neck and putting screws in place as well as putting a steel rod in my shoulder and repairing the dislocation around my joint. Staff brief me and they get me to count from ten and I pass out.

I wake up a few hours later back in my room being monitored. I feel sick, drowsy and sore. My nurse Lucy is at her table at the foot of my bed. "How do you feel?" She asks.

"Sore and drowsy." I answer.

"All normal with every surgery, Dr Andrews will be in shortly."

About fifteen minutes later Dr Andrews comes in and informs me of what he did and said that he fixed everything and repaired the dislocation. He was going to wait but because the surgeries with the neck and shoulder blade went better than expected, he wanted to get in and repair the shoulder when he could. So that means I am in more pain than usual. But that's okay because this is the next step to getting better.

The next morning I see my mum in her usual spot. "How you feeling?" She asks.

"Sore." I croak.

"Need me to get Lucy?"

"Yes please."

"I'll be right back." she responds and moments later she re-enters with Lucy.

"Your mum says you're in a little bit of pain." Lucy says.

"Yeah."

"Want some more pain relief?"

"Yes please." I respond. She adjusts my drip and retrieves some pain relief and shoots it through. I feel the head rush but the pain goes soon after. "Thanks."
