This is another big fight chapter, much like "The Fall" or the Tournament arc. Everybody has a bit of battling and banter.
As it turned out, Mega-Deathtrap was made of what remained from Mega Interplanetary Ninja Assassin Claptrap, which was found in a secret cave connected to Claptrap's Place.
Physically, it looked the same, other than a giant cannon placed on the top of the battle-station. The parts that Gaige had to repair were easy to distinguish from the other parts, as they were held together with different pieces of scrap metal. It was painted over with crimson red paint. There were a few different tags painted on the sides of the battle station, the largest being the Vault symbol on the side. There was a lot of different graffiti on the sides, including Tina's bunny symbol on the rear end of the station.
The cannon on the top of Mega-Deathtrap slowly turned, before firing a blue flame. The flame broke through any shields the robots had and corroded them.
"YES! BURN UNDER MY POWER!" Gaige exclaimed from the cockpit, waving around her arm. Her synthetic arm blew out upon summoning Mega-Deathtrap, making it immobile.
"Actually, it's technically MY power." Hyzin commented. He was hanging off the side of MDT, shooting at the crowd. "My Compound and all."
Mega-Deathtrap slowly began to move forward. Some loaders attempted to hold their ground, but they were promptly crushed.
"I WILL MAKE YOU SEE THE FACE OF GOD AND IT SHALL BE MY FACE!" Gaige exclaimed.
"Right. Anarchy. You're probably getting a lot of kills right now." Hyzin commented, throwing a grenade at the crowd below.
"Were you expecting a conversation, kid?" Hyzin looked up at Mordecai, who was sniping from atop Mega-Deathtrap.
"Well, this isn't as exciting as I thought." Hyzin responded. "We're just kinda rolling around, shooting stuff." He pulled out a knife and a pistol as he noticed some converted humans climbing the side of the battle-station. He kicked one off of the side while slashing another across the neck.
"You have to keep in mind this thing was originally designed by Claptrap." Mordecai responded, shattering the braincase of a converted human that was sneaking up on Hyzin.. "It's not exactly built to be the flashiest killing machine. And Gaige is kinda in her own world."
"NIPPLE SALADS!" Gaige exclaimed, as Mega-Deathtrap dropped some explosives from behind.
"Right…" Hyzin said, as he ducked under the swipe of a loader. "...You fell before us. How did you get up there?" He asked, cutting open the loader and pulling out some important-looking wires.
"I'm a really good jumper." Mordecai replied, as he shot down a few drones that were heading toward the duo.
A few more loaders climbed up onto Mega-Deathtrap. It was a surprise that they were able to get so close to the battleship, but they were also clearly damaged, some more than others.
"How do you think the others are doing?" Hyzin asked, as he backed up to Mordecai, readying his knife.
Mordecai pulled out his own knife.
"Doesn't really matter to us right now, kid."
"Commander!"
Sarah looked over at Misty from between her two turrets. Misty quickly struck at two loaders next to her with her staff before heading to the commander's location.
"Lieutenant! What are you doing here?" Sarah exclaimed, turning her attention to the oncoming loaders. Sarah was closer to the rest of the VCE army then some of the other Vault Hunters. The other soldiers were holding their own against the oncoming robots.
"Shooting things." Misty replied, as she threw her javelin and impaled a robot. "Well, technically, throwing stuff."
"You should be up on the front lines." Sarah said, lobbing a grenade at a group of converted humans that were giving one group of soldiers a hard time. "We need the Vault Hunters on the front lines, since you're in charge of the Vault."
Suddenly, a tomahawk came flying past Sarah head, sticking in a loader in front of her. She turned to see Axton, grinning at her.
"Sorry we're late!" He exclaimed.
"...You realize that did absolutely no damage." Sarah commented, as the loader tapped the tomahawk.
"It's a robot. It's not gonna feel that." Misty added, as the loader shrugged.
"Wait for it…" Axton said.
Suddenly, the tomahawk flashed red, exploding in a fiery blast. The explosion took out the loader as well as a few surrounding ones.
"Badass!" Axton exclaimed. Some of the surrounding soldiers cheered in agreement.
"BROUGHT TO YOU BY TORGUE INDUSTRIES!" Torgue exclaimed on everybody's ECHO devices. "WAR PROFITEERING!"
Sarah and Misty, however, appeared unimpressed.
"That was your only one, wasn't it?" Misty asked.
"...Shut up." Axton replied, as he unloaded a clip into an approaching loader.
Sarah passed him a normal tomahawk. "A good soldier never enters a battle unprepared." She said, smirking at Axton. "Right, Lieutenant Burch?" She asked, in a mock formal tone.
"Correct, Commander Rhodes." Misty replied, in the same tone.
"I thought you two would get less annoying once the sexual tension was gone." Axton mumbled. "Guess I was wrong."
Zero ran across the battlefield. He jumped into the air, flying toward a group of flying drones. He kicked himself up off of the lower one, and spun midair. In a flurry of slashes, he destroyed the rest of the drones. He fell to the ground, debris falling around him.
"Weak." He said to himself.
He looked over his shoulder as a red laser passed over him, briefly healing whatever wounds he had. Ted was mowing down a crowd of robots with his T.E.D., as well as healing over any other soldiers it passed over.
"What?" Ted asked, as he noticed Zero looking at him.
"I'm just not a fan/ Of your style of fighting./ It lacks...elegance." Zero replied. He stabbed one loader and, with his sword still inside of it, flipped over it, cutting it in half.
"Well, we can't all do them flashy sword moves." Ted replied, somewhat annoyed, continuing his laser stream.
"Still." Zero stated, readying himself for approaching loaders.
"How many of them things did you get?" Ted asked. "I'll tell ya: probably less than me. Who are ya trying to impress, anyway?"
Zero didn't respond. He simply vanished from sight.
"Cranky old geezer…" Ted mumbled to himself.
Maya caught a constructor in a phase lock. Slowly, she clasped her fist, quickly flashing the constructor between the two dimensions. It flashed back into existence, in four different parts.
"You've really got a soft spot of that move, don't you?" Lilith commented, phasing into existence, destroying some surrounding robots.
"Well, it's much less messy than what I learned from you." Maya replied, phaselocking a few robots, but opting to fire at them with her SMG.
"Hey, it wouldn't really work on these guys anyway." Lilith replied, firing at the phaselocked robots. "They don't have hearts to pull out. And bullshit to it being less messy! What do you think would happen to a person if you tried that on them?"
"...Ok, so it might be a little more messy." Maya admitted. "But it's more convenient. I'm not that much of an up-close fighter." She looked around, realizing Lilith had disappeared.
The older siren reappeared in the middle of three loaders, knocking a few of them back. She kicked one of them down and kicked one toward the other standing one. As the three loaders fumbled around, Lilith threw a grenade into the group, destroying them.
"Really?" Lilith asked, turning to Maya, grinning. "I think you're missing out."
'WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO?!' Claptrap exclaimed in his mind, as he went flying toward the ground.
We have to head to the Vault. Clyde replied, calmly. Also we should probably stop falling. Want me to take over.
'...Actually, lets see how long I can last.' Claptrap replied.
This should be interesting. Clyde commented.
Claptrap grabbed a flying drone midair and swung on the side of it.
"Sorry!" He exclaimed, before throwing the drone into another drone. "NOT SORRY!"
He landed on the ground and began running in the direction of the Vault. He jumped into the air to dodge an incoming loader. He stepped on top of it, and continued running on top of the crowd. He apologized every time he thought he stepped on the head of a soldier.
Claptrap noticed that there were a group of VCE soldier that were having trouble dealing with a constructor.
"I got this!" Claptrap exclaimed, pushing through the group of confused soldiers. He shot down the shield drone that was protecting the constructor, before diving under the large machine. As he slid, he put his hands together, as if he was praying, and, putting some siren energy in his fingers, cut open the bottom of the robot. He peeled open the robot from the bottom and dug his way through.
From the outside, the constructor sparked a few times before losing power. Claptrap suddenly dug out of the top of the constructor, as if he was a stripper in a birthday cake.
"Thank you for your service!" Claptrap exclaimed to the soldiers, before climbing out of the constructor and running toward the Vault.
"...Who the hell was that?" One soldier asked.
"Probably a native." Another replied.
Claptrap shoved his way through another crowd of robots, narrowly avoiding different explosions and gunfire.
Suddenly, he realized there was nothing surrounding him. He looked around and realized he was in a clearing.
"Is this...the Vault?" He said out loud, looking down at the marked, gray stone beneath him.
Huh. Clyde commented. You actually made it without dying, like a normal person.
"Yeah!" Claptrap exclaimed confidently, pumping his fist in the air.. "That was easier than I thought it would be!"
"Oh, the fun part hasn't even begun yet, kiddo."
So yeah. My favorite part of this chapter is Mega-Deathtrap, who I don't think I did any justice. Just imagine the concept and relish it.
I also kinda liked writing Claptrap's confused fighting style. It's kinda like Goku from DBZ abridged: He just kinda does stuff and people get hurt.
By the way, I made a Wayward Son mix on 8track. If you want to check it out, it's the only playlist under both Borderlands and Claptrap, which is surprising.
Up next: A one-on-one battle!
