Day of Reckoning Part 1
Dean was leaning on the Impala, which was parked across the road from the police station, waiting for Sam.
"Whattya got?" He asked as Sam crossed the road towards him.
"Six girls in seven days." Sam handed him a pile of case files. Which is more disappearances than this city has seen in over a year, all about the same age."
"And cute." Dean commented as he leafed through the pictures. Sam scoffed. "Hey, ice cream come sin lots of flavours, Sam."
"Right, sure." Sam rolled his eyes. "Well half a dozen girls, late teens, a shower away from greatness. Sounds like a profile. I mean, what else they got in common?"
"Well… six directions to go here. Pick a number."
"Seven. Another call just came in today." Sam replied as he climbed into the Impala.
A short while later they were standing in the foyer talking to the father of Kristin Powell, the latest girl to disappear.
"Kristin's a good kid, a little naïve, sure. You try to be a good parent. Girls are hard."
"Right, well we'd just like to find your daughter." Sam told him.
"Last door on the left." He nodded at the stairs.
"Thanks." As they headed up the stairs Dean asked in a low voice; "What'dya think he's talking about?"
"Drugs?" Sam guessed. They reached the end of the hall and opened the door.
"Oh, it is so much worse." Dean said as he flipped on the light. The room before them was painted blood red and had a huge matching canopy bed. All the furniture was black and the room was littered with candles. The worst part was the posters covering the walls, each one of them displaying more and more creepy vampires.
"Vampires?" Sam asked, smirking.
"These aren't vampires man…" Sam shut the door revealing a life size cut out stuck to the back of it. "These are douchebags."
"Yeah."
"Wow." Dean walked further into the room. Sam began moving the pillows aside on the bed and found a laptop hidden among them.
"Aha. All right, let's see what we can see." He sat down at the desk and turned the laptop on. It made a screaming sound and the face of a particularly broody looking vampire popped up. The two of them flinched. "That's… that's just uncomfortable."
"What's he so bummed about?" Dean picked up one of the books from the desk. "Look at this, he's watching her sleep. How is that not rapey?" Dean held up a book with yet another vampire on the cover.
"I gotta concentrate here Dean." Sam told him as he tried to guess Kristin's email password. Dean began flipping through the book.
" 'He could hear the blood rushing inside her, almost taste it. He tried desperately to control himself… Romero knew their love was impossible.' Romero? Really?" Dean raised his lip in disgust.
"Dean shut up." Sam told him as he guessed the password incorrectly again.
"This is a national bestseller." Dean scoffed. "How is that possible. Hey try, uh Lautner." Dean suggested.
"Wait, he's a werewolf." Sam said as he tried and failed again. "How do you even know who that is?"
"Are you kidding me? That kid's everywhere. It's a freaking nightmare."
"Hey, how many T's are there in Pattin…" The laptop pinged as the password was accepted. "That's it. We're in. Ha! Alright…" Sam began to scroll through the page, reading as he went.
"Well?" Dean asked, coming to stand beside him.
"Well, her inbox is full, from some dude claiming to be a vampire."
"A real vampire?"
"Well uh…" Sam read aloud. " 'I can only meet you at night…the call of your blood is too strong'… vampires fishing for victims?" Sam guessed.
"Probably just a human mouth breather right?"
"On the other hand, talk about easy prey."
"For actual vamps?" Sam shrugged.
"Yeah. I mean these chicks are just throwing themselves at you. All you gotta do is…I dunno…write bad poetry."
"Huh!" Dean smirked.
"Wow. This guy wanted to meet her at a place called the black rose."
"Gimme a break." Dean rolled his eyes.
"Just reporting the news."
"It's probably just your standard issue perv right?" Sam shrugged and closed the lap top.
"Well you wanted Emo chicks. I think we hit ground zero." Dean commented as he leaned against the bar. The club was dark and dingy and there was way more red velvet then there should be. The bar tender brought them their drinks, as she walked away Dean chuckled;
"Think she wears all that rubber at the beach? When was the last time we had a beer together?" He asked turning to Sam who was scanning the bar.
"There." Sam nodded at a couple on the other side of the bar. "Whatdya think? He's hitting on her hard enough. Real?"
"I dunno. It's hard to tell." A few others approached the bar. "Hey, we got multiple choice."
"Great three of them, two of us." Two of the guys started kissing. Dean raised an eyebrow.
"Okay make that two of them." The couple moved away from the bar and headed for the exit.
"One's on the move." Dean got to his feet.
"All right. You go with Efron, I got Beiber."
Dean followed the couple at a distance, they made their way out back to the alley. As Dean turned the corner he heard the guy say;
"Are you ready to join me in eternity?" As he leant into the girls neck Dean grabbed him and threw him against the dumpsters.
"Go, get outta here." He told the girl and she disappeared down the alley.
"What the hell are you doing?" The boy asked.
"Open your mouth!" Dean commanded, the kid did what he asked and opened his mouth to reveal fake vampire teeth. "Take those out, Take 'em out!" The boy removed the fangs, leaving him with normal ones underneath.
"What are you twelve? Are you wearing glitter?" Dean asked, peering at his face.
"I only do it to get laid!" The boy protested.
"Does it work?" Dean asked, sceptically. The boy nodded. "I'll be damned. Alright, mmmbop your way outta here, go, go! And use a condom!" Dean called at the boys retreating back. As Dean headed back down the alley he heard a voice in the darkness.
"You're pretty…" Dean turned around to find a short guy with big curly hair standing behind him.
"I'm sorry?" He asked, confused.
"I said, you're pretty."
"Yeah, sorry again pal, I don't play for your team." Dean turned to walk away the guy grabbed him and threw him into the dumpsters. Dean picked himself up and grabbed a piece of pipe from the ground. He swung it at the guy who swatted it out of his hand and grabbed him by the neck pinning him against the wall. He began to punch Dean until he was close to losing consciousness, then he stopped and put his wrist to his mouth. As he removed it blood glistened in the street lights and he began to smear it over Dean's mouth.
"No!" A voice called out and Sam came running down the alleyway towards them. The guy let go of Dean and stepped back, facing off against Sam. Sam slashed at him with the machete in his hand, missing, the guy grinned at him before disappearing into the darkness behind the building.
"Sammy…." Dean asked weakly from where he lay on the ground, blood smeared across his face.
Back at the motel Sam and Dean entered their room. Sam hurriedly closed the curtains, blocking out the lights from the street lamps.
"Oh my god, what is that sound?" Dean asked, holding his head as a barrage of noises assailed his senses.
"What sound, Dean?" Sam asked. A moment later the bedside lamp crashed to the floor. Dean turned and pounded on the wall of the neighbouring room.
"Hey, c'mon keep it down, dammit!" Dean blinked as the overhead light shone blindingly down on him.
"Please, please shut that off, geez." Sam flicked the switch off sending the room into a more pleasant dimness.
"Dean.. you should sit down…" Sam advised but Dean kept pacing.
"You sit down." He told him gruffly before sitting down on the edge of the bed. "Of all the ways to die, I never thought I'd be going out like this."
"Dean, nobody's 'going out'." Sam protested. Dean looked up and turned to the bedside table.
"It's that." He said.
"What?" Dean got to his feet and ripped the cord of the alarm clock out of the wall before turning back to Sam.
"Samuel is going to kill me when he gets here."
"No , Dean he's not!"
"Yes he is, because I'm going to ask him to, cos you won't do it."
"Okay just hold on a second…"
"For what, huh? Look at me!" Dean threw up his hands.
"We can figure this out!" Sam argued.
"How?" Dean looked at him suspiciously. "Why aren't you freaking out?"
"Of course I am!"
"Really? Cos I can hear your heartbeat and it's pretty damn steady."
"That's cos…..I'm trying to remain calm! Dean look, Samuel will know what to do."
"C'mon man, I'm a monster! This is not a problem you spit-ball. We gotta deal with this before I hurt somebody." Dean put his head in his hands again and groaned.
"How's it feel?"
"Now? Now you wanna talk about my feelings?"
"No, I mean physically…."
"How do you think it feels? Not good!" Dean barked before heading to the bathroom.
"Where are you going?" Sam asked.
"Bathroom, okay, newsflash Mr Wizard, vampires pee!" Dean grumbled before heading into the bathroom and slamming the door behind him. He leaned down and turned on the tap, splashing some water over his face. He looked up into the mirror over the sink and pulled his top lip up. A moment later a set of fangs began to descend. Dean groaned and let his head fall back down. A stayed like that for a moment, thinking to himself before straightening up and climbing up onto the sill and pushing the window open. He glanced back once at the closed door before dropping out the window and into the night.
A short while later Dean was stood in Lisa's bedroom, hidden in a darkened corner as she slept. There was a noise from outside the window and Lisa woke with a start.
"Dean?" She asked as he eyes adjusted to the darkness.
"Hey." She turned on the bedside lamp, momentarily blinding Dean.
"Hey, I wasn't expecting you for a couple of days."
"Yeah, yeah… I wanted to see you." Dean looked down at his hands.
"What's up? Are you okay?" She asked, concerned.
"Listen…" Dean started, but didn't know what to say."
"What's going on?"
"It doesn't matter. But I need you to know…you and Ben…just, uh, thanks okay? For everything."
"Dean, you're scaring me." Lisa said as she slid out of bed. Dean could hear the blood pounding in her veins. He got to his feet and walked to the far wall.
"Oh god, I'm Pattinson."
"What?" Lisa asked, taking a step towards him.
"Nothing… I gotta go." Dean turned to the door.
"No, you can't just show up here like this and …"
"Believe me I wish it was different." Dean told her.
"Just stop and explain to me what's going on out there." Lisa demanded, sounding angry now.
"Lisa…. I can't bring this crap home to you."
"You're talking about your work?" She asked.
"I'm talking about my life." Dean corrected. "It's ugly and it's violent and I'm gonna die….soon."
"Just tell me, just tell me what the hell is going on." As she took another step closer Dean grabbed hold of her pining her against the wall. Her heart was thudding loudly in Dean's ears.
"Dean…" He turned away as his fangs began to descend.
"I gotta go." This time he made it to the door and flung it open. As he headed down the hallway a door opened and a light came on startling him.
"Dean?" Ben asked, as he emerged from his room looking sleepy.
"Ben just stay there." Dean told him.
"I thought I heard you…" Ben replied as he started to walk over.
"I said stay back!" Dean growled as he pushed Ben to one side. He stumbled against the wall and glanced back at a shocked Lisa, standing in her bedroom doorway with Ben. There was a noise beside him and he turned to see Lacey standing there. The two women shared a look for a moment, then Lacey nodded at Lisa before taking hold of Dean's arm and porting them out.
