Chapter Fifty

May 27, 2016. 0745 Hours

Tommy sat across from her older sister and stared long and hard at her. She kept seeing glimpses of the future where Jessie's a mother with twins. It was freaky, seeing her sister with kids. Jessie had always been the maternal type, but Tommy had never once saw Jessie with children of her own. There had been so few times that Jessie had been in a relationship that the chances of having a child were slim to none. Coulson was pretty much the only stable relationship Jessie had had since she was 18.

"Tommy, what is going through your head?" Jessie asked while finishing her reports, a habit that she could never get out of to save her life.

"You're going to have twins." Tommy stated while narrowing her eyes. "It's strange seeing you with kids."

Jessie stopped typing, reached forward and put her hand on Tommy's head. "I raised you, ya numbskull. I could have kids if I wanted to."

"But…I never see their father. Will he die like dad?" Tommy didn't want her future niece and nephew to grow up fatherless like they did. It hurt too much to think about it happening like that.

"No, he won't die like dad. You probably just don't see their dad because he'll be away a lot like I was after a few years." Jessie got up from her chair and slowly went to stand beside Tommy. Pulling her little sister into a hug, she felt the tears roll down her face. She already knew who the father of her future children would be. If Tommy didn't see him in their lives it would be because he was always away, saving the world.

"I wish I could have known him."

"I wish you could have too." Jessie slowly let her sister pull away before squatting down to look the younger Farnsworth sibling in the eyes properly. "We are our parents' children. There is nothing the two of us cannot do together. Are you going to stay with me no matter what?"

"Of course Jessica." Tommy threw her arms around her sister and hugged her tightly. She couldn't' remember the last time she properly hugged her older sister. It must have been a long time ago. After a few moments, Tommy looked up and then smiled. "I only ask that you don't make me babysit."

Both sisters started laughing at that point. Jessie had heard about Tommy being drafted into babysitting duties while she was gone and knew how horrible Tommy was at it. "Don't worry kiddo, we'll work on your baby skills."

"So long as I don't have to continue learning people skills on top of it."

Jessie had missed seeing her sister laugh and joke. She knew why it was harder for her younger sister to joke, but she missed it all the same. "I wish I could be as strong as you some days." She whispered sadly while leaning against her desk.

"Not really." Tommy muttered before standing up. "I've got to go check on our guest. He's been talking to me about babies a bit."

"Really? I didn't think someone as insane as him would know anything about kids."

"Apparently he knows a couple of things. He and Thor had a younger brother and sister"

"OK, I know about the brother. Baldr, but the little sister?"

"Yeah…Loki and Thor would only talk about Baldr. They both said the memories of their little sister were still too painful to recount to anyone." Tommy vaguely remembered reading about Baldr when she studied Norse mythology. That was where she had gotten her birth name from anyways. Sigyn, the wife of Loki son of Laufey. She shivered at the idea of someone bearing the same name as her being his wife. Let alone the potential future she had seen of actually personally being his wife.

"Let me know how that shit storm goes eh?"

"Yeah, I will."

Being a prolific note taker was something that few would ever accuse Tommy of being, but she was actually taking notes on what Loki was telling her. It was rather informative to know that some babies actually got sick if they cried too much, or that they had this scaly like substance on top of their heads called cradle cap. She noticed that he was smirking at her as she took notes on what he said. However, he also had a slight respectful look too. Almost like he could understand someone being curious and wanting to learn something rather than simply look into the future and know it before anyone else did (she was guilty of doing that on more than one occasion).

"Is there anything else I need to be worried about if a baby is crying?" Tommy asked while looking up from her notes. Thor was standing guard beside her while she sat on the floor with a fountain pen and a spiral notebook. She wrote everything down in rune form with all vowels, save for long ones, missing. It was a style of short hand that had saved her hide a few times in the past. After all not many people in S.H.I.E.L.D. knew how to read Nordic rune anymore. And fewer still could read anything without vowels for some reason.

"Sometimes you need to let them cry themselves to sleep. An infant always wants attention, but giving into the want will not help them develop independence or the ability to get to sleep on their own." Loki leaned against the glass to look down on the notes she was taking. "You are using rune?"

"Faster and easier. Not to mention it gets around my dyslexia." Tommy answered before looking up. "Uh…dyslexia in the medical world translates to 'difficult word'. Basically my eyes jumble written word, but oddly enough only the roman letters. Rune or other letters do not get jumbled with my eyes. I can read and write in Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and several other alphabets that do not use our conventional language that we have here in America."

"How interesting." Loki squatted down and pointed at the pendant choker around her neck. "Where did you get that trinket?"

She touched the necklace absentmindedly. "The man who saved my life after…that. He gave it to me, said it would protect me from those who wished to harm me. If they so much as laid a finger on me in malice they would be harmed 3 fold. I don't know if it is true or not."

"Very much so I would say. That has strong, old magic. Something I had not counted on seeing for a very long time." Loki stood back up and went over to his cot. "Frigga had made something similar for myself and Thor."

Thor looked down at Tommy and raised an eyebrow. "I remember that stone, now that you mention it brother." Thor stated while looking at Loki. "Is it yours?"

"Might be, I lost mine some time ago, or I would not be in this predicament now would I?" Loki sighed. "I think that is enough for today insolent child."

Tommy narrowed her eyes before standing up. "And to think, I was starting to enjoy our conversations." She mumbled before storming out of the room.
