Chapter 53: The Special Assignment (written on August 18th)
"I will really miss you." Stone then buried the last of his old friend. He made sure he did this alone, deep in the forest. He didn't want to show weakness to Cody or his son. "If only, you could see your wish come true. But don't worry, I will make it... come true."
Suddenly, he heard some footsteps. He quickly hid behind the nearest tree and glanced around the trunk. All he saw a black tail. "Must be Stormfast," he whispered to himself. "Perfect." In a split-second, he jumped from the tree and pounced on the black wolf.
But he soon realized he got his hopes a little too high when he saw that the wolf he pounced was a female. "Wait a minute, you're not Stormfast."
"I don't know who the heck that is but... could you get off of me, sir," she said. Stone suddenly got an idea.
"Hmm... Sorry but you belong to my pack," he informed.
"Pack? Perfect! We're lone wolves so we're looking for a pack."
"We're?"
"Oh, yeah. Could you first get off of me?"
"Promise not to run away?"
"What? Why? Where would I go?"
"Promise!" he yelled.
"Okay! Okay! I promise!" Stone got off of her. The black she-wolf then shouted for her companion.
"Brooke!"
"What?!" a voice replied.
"Come over here! A wolf is offering us a place to stay!"
"Okay! Hold on!"
"What are your names?" Stone asked.
"I'm Autumn," said the black wolf.
"What is it?" said a dark grey wolf approaching them.
"That's Brooke," informed Autumn.
"Is this the wolf?" Brooke asked her friend. Autumn nodded. "What's your name?"
"I'm Stone of Stone's Pack."
"Oh cool, so you're the pack leader? Could you take us to the pack?"
"Yes." He walked towards it. The girls followed.
Autumn was an all-black, friendly, optimistic Alpha wolf. And Brooke was a dark grey, protective, sassy Alpha wolf.
"Just to let you know girls, my pack is currently at war."
"War? With, let me guess, someone named 'Stormfast'?" said Autumn.
"Yes, his pack called the Southern Alliance."
"Psst! Autumn!" Brooke whispered. "I think we should have went over there."
"I heard that!" yelled Stone. "But that's okay. You both cannot leave anyway."
"Why not?" she asked.
"Because I have a rule that states that whatever steps a paw in my pack, becomes part of it and has to follow my assignments; otherwise my son, Chance, will kill them."
"That's a stupid rule!" Brooke blurted. Her attitude got the best of her.
"What did you say?!" he growled.
"Nothing!" She did the most inferior-showing submission posture to please him.
"That's what I thought."
"Psst ! Brooke!" Autumn whispered. "Now I agree with you."
Later...
"You'll be staying here." Stone pointed at Simon's den. Brooke walked inside.
"Whoa! This is the biggest den I've ever seen!"
"Autumn. I need to talk to you alone," ordered Stone.
"Uhh... Okay." They went behind the cave to Simon old garden. All the plants had died without Simon's care.
"I have a very special assignment for you."
"Really? What is it?"
"What I need you to do is to go to the Southern Alliance and pretend to join the pack tomorrow."
"Do I have to spy?"
"Not exactly. Chance is already doing that. No, I need you to pretend to... fall in love..."
"What? That's diabolic! With who, dare I ask?"
"Stormfast's son. I want you to lure him here."
"I don't... I don't know if I can do it."
"Come on. It's for a good cause," said Stone in his rare soft voice. "Stormfast and his disciples are evil."
"How so?"
"They left me to humans..." Autumn then gasped. Humans were considered destroyers.
"I'll do it! I'll do anything you want to make you both even!" In between the cry, Stone smiled.
