Third Person...

The Doctor groaned as he stirred away after falling the long way down the pit. As he went to stand up, he noticed the fact that his helmet was broken and he let out a gasp, a hand flying to his mouth. It wasn't until a couple seconds later that he realized that he could actually breathe. It left him surprised. He shouldn't be able to breathe especially from this far down so when he voiced the fact he was breathing, there was wonder in his voice,

"I'm breathing." He got to his feet, taking off his helmet, and looked around the area he was in. "Air cushion to support the fall…" He turned on the com and spoke into it, "You can breathe down here, Ida." But on the other end, the comm cracked and the Doctor hoped that she was able to hear him. "Can you hear me, Ida?"

But again there was nothing on the other end. He thought about trying it again when he heard the sound of a rocket lifting up. He froze at the sound as he looked up, eyes sad realizing that Charlene was up there and probably thought that he was dead.

"A rocket," The Doctor whispered, watching as the rocket flew further and further away. 'I'm sorry Carly…'

Finding a lit torch, The Doctor grabbed it and shined it on the wall of the underground cavern. On the wall, there were crude drawings of a horned beast and stick fingers surrounding it.

"History of some big battle," he said, intently looking at the drawing, slowly trying to figure out what they were saying, moving the torch on each drawings to get a good look at them. "Man against beast. I don't know if you're getting this, Ida. Hope so. Anyway, they defeated the Beast and imprisoned it.

The light of the torch ended up falling on what looked like a large vase on a stand. A surprised look crossed his face, recognizing this sort of vase on one of the pictures. To confirm, he moved the torch light back on the symbols of people carrying the vase and he approached the vase to get a better look at it and looking on the other side – there was another vase and it was in line with the first one.

"Or maybe that's the key…" The Doctor murmured to himself as he touched the vase that he was near and both of them lit up. "Or the gate, or the bars…"

Suddenly there was a quiet growl and he turned around only for his mouth to fall open at the sight in front of him.

In the pit, there was huge horned beast (the same one that was illustrated on the symbols on the wall) and he was chained up. It roared at the Doctor, but he didn't even flinch, still staring at the beast.

"I accept that you exist," he said. "I don't have to accept what you are, but you're physical existent, I'll give you that." The Beast growled as he took a few steps forward, "But I don't understand. I was EXPECTED down here. I was given a safe landing, and air. You need me for something. What for?" The Doctor was completely out of his depth as the beast lunged forward, straining against the chains that held it down, "Have I got to … I don't know, beg an audience? Or… is there a ritual? Some sort of incantation or summons or spell – all these things I don't believe in – are they real?"

The Doctor waited for a response, but the Beast didn't say anything which left him baffled. Why wasn't the Beast speaking now? It sure had a lot to say before. Maybe he hadn't heard so he spoke up again, louder this time.

"Speak to me! Tell me!" Again no reply. "You won't talk. Or…" He paused, realizing that maybe the Beast couldn't talk…but then how was it able to talk before? "You CAN'T talk. Hold on, hold on. Wait a minute, just let me…" The Doctor thought hard, hard as he could. "Oh!" He cried, bouncing on his feet. "No. Yes! No… think it through, you SPOKE before. I heard your voice. An intelligent voice. No, more than that – brilliant! But, looking at you now… all I can see…" The Beast growled but the Doctor ignored it. He was on a roll and he wasn't going to stop now. "Is…" Another growl, "Beast. The animal. Just … the body. You're just the body, the physical form! What happened to your mind? Hmm? Where's it gone? Where's that intelligence?" When it dawned on him, he glanced upwards. The rocket… "Oh, no…"

The Doctor shined his torch again on the symbols covering the walls. "You're imprisoned. Long time ago. Before the universe, after, sideways, in-between, doesn't matter. The positioning is PERFECT. It's absolutely – it's eternal. Oh, YES! Open the prison – the gravity field collapses! This planet falls into the black hole!" He turned towards the Beast, "You escape, you die. BRLLIANT! But that's just the body. The body is trapped, that's all. The devil is just an idea. In all those civilizations – just an idea." He paused, edging forward as he worked it out, "But an idea is hard to kill. An idea could escape. The mind – the mind of the great Beast – the mind can escape! Oh, but that's it! You didn't give me the air – your jailers did! They set this up! all those years ago! They need me alive. Because if you're escaping, then I've got to stop you!"

This angered the Beast and it roared out in fury, straining against the chains. The Doctor picked up a nearby rock, throwing the torch off to the side.

"if I destroy your prison, your body is destroyed. Your mind with it." He swung the rock over his head, ready to bring it down to break the vase, but he stopped, realizing something, and he dropped the rock. "But then you're clever enough to use this whole system against me. If I destroy this planet, I destroy the gravity field. The rocket. The rocket loses protection and falls into the black hole." He gulped to himself, closing his eyes as the horrible realization came over him. "I'll have to sacrifice Charlene…" He stayed quiet as the Beast laughed mirthlessly at him but he spoke again once it stopped laughing, "So, that's the trap. Or the test or the final judgement, I don't know. But if I kill you, I kill her."

The Beast laughed again before roaring in what the Doctor guessed was in triumph.

"Except… that implies – in this big grand scheme of Gods and Devils – that she's just a victim." 'Something that my Carly is not… she isn't a victim and never would.' "But I've seen a lot of this universe. I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demi gods and would-be-gods – out of all of that – out of that whole pantheon – if I believe in one thing…just one thing…" His voice rose with passion, the kind of passion that one had when they truly, truly believed in something, "I believe in HER." And with that, he picked the rock and without hesitation, he smashed the vase.

The rocket began to shake violently and I jumped at the sound, my eyes widening. What the hell was that?

"What happened?" Danny asked loudly. "What was that?!"

"What's he doing? What's he doing?"

"We lost the funnel! Gravity field collapse!"

I didn't have to ask to know that wasn't a good thing, but it didn't stop me from asking. "What does that mean?"

"We can't escape. We're headed straight for the black hole!"

Oh shit! My head snapped towards the window and I looked through, eyes widening at the sight of the planet. "It's the planet," I breathed out. "The planet's moving. It's falling." This can't get any worse I leaned back in my seat and I looked towards Toby only to reel back in shock and horror. He was glaring at me, eyes red – the symbols had broken out onto his skin again!

"Fuck!" I cursed as loud as I could.

"I am the rage—"Toby's voice was back to sounding like the voice of the Beast.

"It's Toby, Zach! Do something!" I screamed.

"And the bile and the ferocity."

I screamed again, "Just fucking do something already!"

"I am the Prince and the Fall and the Darkness—"

"It's him!" It was Danny's turn to scream. "It's him! It's him!"

"Stay, where you are, the ship's not stable!" Zach warned us loudly. As soon as that left his mouth, Toby expelled a burst of flame from his mouth and it was his turn to scream, "What is he?! What the HELL is he?!"

"I shall never die! The thought of me is forever! In the bleeding hearts of men – in their vanity and obsession and lust—"

I saw the bolt gun – the one I wasn't going to use on Zach and the rest of them – and I grabbed it without Toby noticing. This ended now!

"Nothing shall ever destroy me. Nothing!"

"I wouldn't be so sure of that!" I shouted, pointing the gun at the front window. "Go to hell, you sick bastard!" I fired the gun, shattering the glass, and I quickly unbuckled him. Immediately Toby was sucked through the broken window and into outer space, heading straight towards the black hole. He roared in fear and anger. I felt bad for Toby that he had to die because of that thing inside him... but there was nothing I could do. What I did had to be done for the sake of everyone. It was what the Doctor would have done…if he was here. Sadness filled me again at thought of him being gone. I wouldn't see him again…and that killed me…

"Emergency shield!" Zach pressed a button on the control panel and the emergency shield activated, covering the gaping hole. The rocket continued to shake and shudder, headed towards the black hole. "We've still lost the gravity funnel. We can't escape the black hole!"

"But we stopped him," I said quietly. "It's what the Doctor would have done…"

"Some victory. We're going in."

I sighed, leaning my head back, staring blankly up at the ceiling as the rocket continued to spiral towards the black hole. Danny looked at the computer and he looked terrified.

"The planet's lost orbit! It's falling!"

The computer screen flashed indicating that the planet had fallen into the black hole before going blank.

"The planet's gone," he said, looking at me. But I said nothing, still staring up at the ceiling. "I'm sorry."

"Accelerate," Zach said with a sigh. "I did my best. But hey – first Human Beings to fall inside a black hole. How about that? History."

I closed my eyes to hide the tears filling up in my eyes. I prayed, hoping that somewhere … somehowsomeoneanybody … would save us from falling into the black hole. But it was impossible. I had to except the fact that the Doctor was gone, but I couldn't. I had to believe he was alive. Even if all hope was lost. I kept my eyes closed as we held on tight as the rocket shook violently. We were ready for the impact…but it didn't come. The shaking stopped and there was silence. My eyes opened and I blinked confused.

"What happened?" I asked as we all leaned to one side as the rocket turned … around was what it felt like. "Are we turning around?"

Zach looked at the screen, "We're turning around. We're turning away!"

And it was then that the comm sprung to life and the Doctor's voice came through.

"Sorry about the hijack, Captain. This is the good ship TARDIS."

My eyes lit up and tears – happy tears – filled my eyes. I felt like sobbing out in relief. He was alive!

"Now, first things first – have you got a Charlene Tyler on board?"

"I'm here!" I cried overjoyed. "It's me! Oh my God!" I laughed and put my hand over my face, giddy with relief and happiness. "Where are you?"

"I'm just towing you home, love," he told me softly and I grinned.

The Doctor continued speaking, "Gravity-schmavity. My people practically invented black holes. Well – in fact, they did." I could hear him pulling a lever down. "In a couple minutes. we'll be nice and safe. Oh, and captain – can we do a swap? Say, if you give me Charlene Tyler – I'll give you Ida Scott? How about that?"

"She's alive!" Zach cried delighted.

"YES! Thank god."

"Yeah! Bit of Oxygen starvation, but she should he all alright." The Doctor's voice turned solemn, "I couldn't save the Ood. I only had time for one trip. They went down with the planet." There was beeping sound, "Ah! Entering clear space – end of the line – mission."

I smiled to myself, so happy…reviled … and proud of him, all at the same time. I was able to relax against my seat, ready to see my Doctor again.

I threw open the doors of the TARDIS as quick as could with a great, big grin on my face. The Doctor was there at the console. He hadn't noticed me come in until I breathed out,

"Doctor."

He glanced up and smiled at the sight of me. At the same time, we ran to each other and the Doctor gathered me up in his arms, lifting me clean off the floor. I buried my face into his shoulder, squeezing him as tight as I could. I left my face buried in his shoulder for a couple minutes before I pulled back and I slammed my lips to his in a passionate and desperate kiss.

The Doctor returned the kiss just as passionately, putting me back on my feet. I felt his hands rub up and down my back soothingly. It was then I took notice to the fact that my body was trembling as I pressed against him, letting our bodies mold together. Our lips moved together slowly but softly, the passion between us building with every caress. The Doctor's hands continued to rub up and down my back, pushing me closer to him, as we continued the passionate kiss. I didn't want it to end. But it had to as we both had to breath sometime. We broke the kiss, both of us out of breath. I rested my forehead on his, our breathing in sync.

"You put me through hell you know," I whispered, closing my eyes.

"Yeah, I know, love," he said into my hair softly as his arms slipped around my waist.

I didn't say anything as I moved my head from his to rest my head on his chest, my own arms slipping around his waist. I kept my eyes closed, not wanting to let go of him.

And I didn't even as the Doctor called Zach. I stayed close to his side, his arm around my waist.

"Zach? We'll be off now," The Doctor said through the comm. "Have a good trip. And the next time you get curious about something—" He shook his head, "Oh…what's the point? You'll just go blundering in." He glanced at me, hiding a smile. "The human race…"

I nudged him in the side, "Oh be quiet. We're not all that bad… then again, I am traveling with you. I go blundering in all the time around you."

"Oh, but you love it," he teased, kissing me on the cheek.

I rolled my eyes as Ida's voice sounded,

"But Doctor, what did you find down there? That creature – what was it?"

"I don't know! Never did decipher that writing. But that's good! Day I know everything? Might as well stop."

"But what do you think it was, Doctor?" I asked. "Really?"

"I think…we beat it. That's good enough for me."

I hadn't been thinking about it for a while, but now I was… It said I was going to die in battle… I gulped as I voiced that thought out loud,

"It said I was gonna die in battle."

The Doctor caught my eye. "Then it lied." There was a quiet confidence in his tone of voice but even though he was confident… there was something deep in my gut that knew that what the creature said was true. But I just nodded and smiled at the Doctor, pretending that what he said reassured me. "Right, onwards, upwards – Ida – see you again, maybe!"

"I hope so."

"And thanks, boys!" I called.

The Doctor was about to pull the lever to take us off but paused at the sound of Ida's voice.

"Hang on though, Doctor. You never really said…you two…who are you?"

"Oh…" I grinned as the Doctor looked at me, grinning back. "The stuff of legends."

Grin still in place, he pulled the lever and we watched with grins on our faces as the rotor rose and fell.

I woke up in the dead of night, almost letting out a scream as I shot up in my bed…well the Doctor's bed. I didn't have to touch my face to know I was sweating. I had a dream about me … dying … I shuddered, thinking about how I died in the dream. I shook my head. The thought of the dream disappeared when I did this. Given not all the way but I wasn't thinking about it anymore. I looked at the Doctor to see he was still asleep. I sighed as I rested back down on the bed, settling myself back in the Doctor's arms. He stirred but he didn't wake up as he put his arms around me, pulling me to him. I smiled to myself, resting my head on his chest, tangling my legs around his. I closed my eyes and fell asleep listening to his hearts beating.
