Hinata giggled in amusement at the look on Sasuke's face. He had rode the clay birds a few times now and he still looked just as terrified it would explode every time.
She sighed as the landed with a plop. Sasuke looked at his surroundings.
"This is an Akatsuki hideout?" He said skeptically.
"I-It's my home." She smiled at his wrinkled face. "I-It was a present for Leader-sama when I first joined, I-Itachi-san said it was a bribe to keep me." She gazed at the front door of her cottage and almost could see him waiting for her in the doorway, asking where she had been and if she was hurt. "I-It's all so my medical center, research lab, and a place for the others to stay and it's your home now too so maybe I should make a few adjustments." She might add on to the house, he could have his own room what else would he like, did he have any hobbies besides training?
"I'm guessing you don't leave often?" He asked absent-mindedly. It suddenly struck her that being in the cozy home might bother him. He was use to traveling, their time in the bunker may have been too much for him already.
"Th-that may change, I didn't have a partner before." She hoped he wouldn't be forced to live like she liked.
"It will be nice to stop for a while." She looked at his face and her heart broke, he looked distant, thoughtful, and sad. She didn't ask what was wrong her would tell her if he wanted her to know.
How long had it been since he had a home? Not just a house, or an apartment to live in, but a home with someone waiting for him when he got back. Not since he was a child. He studied the cottage as she led him in, he set his weapons by the door like she had made him at the bunker. He wondered how it felt lived in even when she was gone for so long. He heard her mumble something about dusting and cleaning up and she waved him off to explore warning him to not move anything in her lab.
He walked through the house while she started cleaning and putting things she had taken with her to the bunker in their place. It was bright and warm, the opposite of the bunker. Her office was neat and held books that were incredibly old and valuable. Her medical room looked nothing like a hospital, but he assumed that was the point. The boarding room held remnants of those who had slept there. Clay birds, small puppets, tools, clothes, and small trinkets.
She called him for lunch at the table she had already cleaned most of the kitchen it seemed.
"M-Maybe I can build you a room, m-mine is large enough for both of us but I'm sure you would like your privacy." He nearly laughed, they had spent so little time in their rooms while in the bunker after Kisame and Tobi left. They usually fell asleep in the sitting room, it became so often that when she was tired she would just lay down and curl up beside him rather than resign herself to bed.
"That's not necessary, I have no problem sharing a room. It's your room though your decision." He watched her face twisted in uncertainty. He had understood why she slept in the sitting room with him so often. She didn't cry herself to sleep when she had company.
She started to chew her lip, something she did when she was torn between decisions.
"I really don't mind." He added again, he didn't like having to repeat himself, but she was only going to keep looking at him like that otherwise. She nodded once and eat her food in complete silence.
They moved her room around to accommodate two people. One side hers, one side his. The beds were placed in the center separated a comfortable amount. Neither could roll over and smack the other in the face, but it was close enough it recreated their bunker sitting room arrangement. Hinata didn't ask about the placement and Sasuke didn't explain.
Hinata was embarrassed at the thoughtfulness of his actions. It was something Itachi would have done. With his things finding a place she noticed how little clothes he had.
She bit her lip and chewed on the idea of giving him Itachi's. She had been wearing them to help with the coping, but they didn't even fit her. She dug out the box she had with what he had left in it and approached Sasuke who was finishing his book in the sitting room.
"Th-these were Itachi-san." She whispered setting the box down in front of him. He set his book down and looked inside. His clothes took up most the box, he had left his necklace and slashed forehead protector. Sasuke picked up the necklace and examined it. She lightly touched his forehead protector, she hadn't worn her's in a while. Her slash wasn't as straight as his.
Sasuke stopped his examination and she could feel him watching her. She felt silly, she was still so broken.
He held the necklace out to her silently. She looked up and regarded what he was saying. He opened the clasp reaching forward to put it around her neck. She closed her eyes to will the tears the came to retreat. He removed his hands and took the box from her setting it to the side. She opened her eyes and the tears ran down her face,
"Th-thank you." She whispered barely, brushing her fingers across it.
Hinata got lost in a fit of giggles. Sasuke had tried on Itachi's clothing, the pants fit, but the shirts definitely did not. Itachi had been very thin and sickly despite his muscles, Sasuke rib cage was expanded more and he had a thick layer of muscle everywhere making it look like he had tried on one of her shirts.
He glared at her as he peeled it off tossing it in her face. "Ha ha." He grumbled sitting back down in his spot. "Guess you get to keep the shirts."
She nodded trying to stop the giggling. She took the rest of shirts from the box leaving the Akatsuki pants for him.
Sasuke pulled out a spare weapons pouch also part of the uniform. "It looks like someone didn't leave all their weapons by the door." He commented dryly. She gave a small sad smile recognizing it was a joke.
He opened it, mostly standard his eyebrows furrowed and Hinata watched him empty the contents. Pulling something out of the bottom.
"M-My glasses?" She asked as she examined the dark lenses. She hadn't worn them since she had lost her eye and started to wear the patch. She hadn't gone out much since then and when she did she just hadn't been worried about the Hyuuga looking for her anymore.
Sasuke opened them examining them before handing them to her.
"Wh-what would he want with my glasses?" She whispered to herself.
"Maybe he thought you would need them again." She looked up and understood, she was very odd to look at now. She had been done a lot of research when she was working with Itachi's eyes on the Sharingan. Most attempt for second-hand users to control it was a failure and the inability to control it meant the inability to turn it off making it chakra draining unless you covered it. Hinata wasn't bothered by the extra chakra drain it wasn't that heavy for her, but it still would be nice to turn it off even just to look a little more normal and not analyze people against her will.
She set them on her face looking at Sasuke, he tilted his head determining his opinion. She hoped it cover the scar a bit, the glasses were close to her eyes and high on her nose to keep her eyes hidden even if you glance from the side.
"You look like an Aburame." He determined, making her laugh taking them off.
"Shino-kun would like that." She set the glasses in her lap.
