Chapter Forty-One

The Wedding Bells Chime Once Again

Many months after the return home Katelyn found herself very happy. She and Cameron were doing great and they had a beautiful son. It wasn't very traditional, but hey, what was in their life? Nothing; that was the answer to that question so getting Jayden was perfectly normal for them, they decided. Katelyn figured Cameron and she had gotten married while aboard the Odyssey for many reasons. First, they had a kid. Second, the other Katelyn had signed her name Katelyn Mitchell, on the letter to her instead of Katelyn Warner. She was thrilled about that fact. If only Cameron would pop the question now. All her dreams would come true.

SG-1 was on leave once again. Cameron had taken this time to take her to a certain park that would be remembered forever. He sat her on the bench and pulled a little, black box out of his pocket. Teal'c had taken Katelyn's ring from her when they were married the first time. He gave it to Cameron to use when he felt it was the right time. Cameron didn't know exactly that it was their original engagement ring. Katelyn gasped. "Will you marry me?" Cameron asked. "Of course." Katelyn said before kissing Cameron. Katelyn and Cameron's wedding plans were a big shock to everyone except Teal'c who knew it was going to happen eventually.

They decided to have two weddings. One on Earth for all their friends and family who worked outside the SGC and then one off world so they could invite all their friends from other planets such as Bra'tac. They held their first on Earth at a nice park. Kaycee, Sam, and Vala were her maids of honor. It wasn't normal, but their lives weren't normal either. Daniel, Teal'c, and Darrell were Cameron's best men. Jayden was their ring bearer.

Cameron's parents sat in the front row, as did Katelyn's parents. They were sitting together smiling up at her. Her mom wasn't drunk and Brad looked proudly at his daughter and soon to be son-in-law. General Hammond was there sitting with Jack who was smiling at his old team, his family. After he had brought the rings, Jayden sat with Jack and General Hammond looking up at his parents. General Landry was sitting with his daughter; Carolyn Lam. Dr. Lee, Sergeant Siler, and Walter were there along with many other SGC employees. Cassie was there with a picture of Janet next to her. Katelyn saw it and wanted to cry wishing she could have been there also. Major Davis was sitting with a few other men from the Pentagon. He smiled up at her. She smiled back. Many other people were there too. "You may now kiss the bride." The priest said and Cameron did just that. It was the wedding Katelyn dreamt about while on the Odyssey although she would never know it.

They went along with the dancing, eating, and speeches. The next day they would be having another wedding at a favorite planet Cameron and her both shared. They set up there. Other SG teams had gated their various friends there. Jack, General Hammond, General Landry, Dr. Lam, Dr. Lee, Siler, Major Davis, Walter, and many others went along for the other wedding. Kaycee walked through the gate for the first time and found it exhilarating. She finally understood why Katelyn loved it so much. It had also been Jayden's first time through the gate. He enjoyed it quite a bit too.

Among the others who were not from Earth were Bra'tac, a few other Jaffa, Katcha, and Jonas. Jonas still had feelings for Katelyn as he always would, but he was happy Katelyn found someone else since he couldn't be there. Pictures of the fallen sat on chairs. They had a picture of Janet, Thor, Skaara, and many others. They took some wedding rituals from each of the different peoples that were at the wedding. Soon the second wedding was over and everyone was congratulating the newly weds.

Jonas came up to Katelyn and hugged her. "It's great to see you again." He said. Katelyn smiled. "It's great to see you again too. How have you been?" Jonas shrugged. "I've been good. I have to admit I miss working at the SGC. It was exciting." Katelyn smiled again. "You know General Hammond and the rest of SG-1 could put in a good word and maybe you could get on one of the SG teams." Jonas smiled. "Would you do that for me?" Katelyn nodded. "You know I would Jonas, if it's something you really want just come back to the SGC when we leave." Jonas nodded. "Thanks and you look good by the way for having a seven year old kid and all." Katelyn smiled. "You're welcome and thanks. Jonas, there will always be a special place in my heart for you" Daniel came walking up to see Katelyn and saw Jonas. "Hey Jonas, how have you been?" Jonas smiled. "I've been good, but better now I think. What about you?" Daniel nodded. "I'm doing well." Jonas smiled. "How are my fish?" Daniel laughed. "They're well feed and doing well. I added a few more. Maybe you could come see them sometime." Jonas nodded hoping he would be back at the SGC in no time. "I'll always love you Katelyn, but I'm glad you're happy." Jonas added before walking away.

They finished their wedding and said goodbye to their friends as they gated to their homes. Jonas stuck around. Katelyn had changed out of her dress and was picking up her pictures. They were all going in her office. She looked at the picture of Janet.

"I wish you could have been here. We all miss you terribly." Katelyn said. Somehow, Katelyn knew Janet was at peace and couldn't ask for anything better for her fallen friend. General Hammond, Jack, and SG-1 with the exception of Cameron and Vala gave a good word for Jonas and he became apart of SG-3 who had recently lost their linguist. Jonas was happy and he thanked everyone who helped him.

Katelyn went to her office with Jayden and began setting up her pictures. Jayden sat in her chair playing a computer game. Cassie knocked on the door. "Come in." Katelyn said and her door slid open. Cassie walked through the door. Cassie sat down in one of the extra chairs. "Hey Cassie, what's up?" Katelyn asked. Cassie looked as though she'd been crying. "I miss her so much." Cassie said through sobs. Katelyn looked down. "I know me too. She was a great person. You were lucky to have her as a mother." Cassie looked up and smiled. "I know. She was great at it. I just wish I was better to her before she died." Katelyn rubbed her shoulder. "Janet loved you. You were the best thing that happened to her. You couldn't have given her anything better. Just know that wherever she's at she's looking down at you. She's always going to be there with you wherever you go and whatever you do."

Cassie smiled. "Thanks, do you think she'll be with me when I go to medical school." Katelyn was shocked, but smiled. "You want to be a doctor?" Cassie smiled. "Yeah, my mom's job was great she helped people; I hope to work here at the SGC when I'm finished with school." Katelyn smiled. "I'm sure she will be there for you and I'm sure she would have been proud. I know I am and I know Sam will be too." Cassie stood up and hugged Katelyn. "Thank you so much." Katelyn smiled. "You're welcome. How about you go see Sam and tell her about your plans. I know she'd love to hear them."

Cassie nodded and left as Daniel walked in. "Hey." Daniel said. Katelyn smiled. "Hey, what's up?" Katelyn asked. Daniel smiled. "Nothing really, I just came to see how you were doing." Katelyn smiled. "I'm doing great Daniel. You know I was thinking about something." Daniel smiled and sat down at her desk near Jayden. "Oh yeah, what's that?" Katelyn smiled. "I think you should ask Vala out." Daniel smiled and shrugged. "Why?" Katelyn looked at him. "I can see the chemistry between you two and I think you guys could end up as something someday. You just need to give it a chance." Jayden looked up from his game. "Uncle Daniel, Aunt Vala loves you. You've never been happier than you are with her. I've seen it." Jayden looked up into Daniel's eyes. His grey eyes sparkled and Daniel knew he was telling the truth. Jayden broke eye contact and returned to his game.

Daniel smiled slightly and shrugged again. "I don't know about the long term thing, but I think I will ask her out." Daniel smiled. He gave Katelyn a hug and left the room to go find Vala. "I'll see you later Keiki." Daniel said ruffling Jayden's hair. Cameron came in as Daniel left. "What was that about?" Katelyn smiled as she walked toward him. "I told him to ask out Vala." Cameron laughed. "Really, is he going to?" Katelyn nodded and she wrapped her arms around Cameron's waist as she had done so many times in the past. "Yeah, I think he is." Cameron wrapped his arms around her. "I love you." Katelyn smiled. "I love you too." Jayden jumped up and Cameron immediately swept him up into his arms for a family hug.

For that moment, nothing else in the world existed except for her, Cameron, and Jayden. They weren't at threat from the Ori, the death around them wasn't sad anymore, Katelyn's family was all around her and would be for a long time. She was getting a second lifetime with the man she loved. Katelyn couldn't ask for anything better than what she already had.

Funny thing love is. It makes you do so many things you wouldn't under normal circumstances. It makes weak men strong and strong men weak. It makes you do great things. It could make a noble man step down from his throne and be equal. It is what makes everyone truly equal. It is what makes people who they are. It is the one thing that can truly stand the test of time. Love is so complicated and can show itself in so many ways. It blesses people everyday and never asks for a thing in return. I know love has blessed me many times in my life, but the most during my time at the SGC. I couldn't ask for anything more from love than what it has given me. First it gave me my friends, my first real family and I was happy to have Jack, Sam, Daniel, and Teal'c, but as love can give, it can also take away and I have felt the cold sting of loss that love can give more times than I would have hoped, but the thing about love is, even though it takes away the physical things it can bestow, the love, the immense feeling it gives never goes away. It will stay by as a way to say sorry for taking away those things it gives. It took away Daniel first, but he came back to me. It also took away Janet, but my love for her is still strong in my heart as it will always be when I think of her and what we'd been through. Love gave me Jonas, the first person I gave my heart to and made me happy again. When he left the love was still there, but it silently told me it was meant to be this way and something better would come along. And so it did in the form of a pilot named Cameron Mitchell. From the first time I looked into his eyes, love showed me what my life could be like with him. For a moment I thought love was cruel when he left. I thought love took him away after showing me what it would have been like. But just as he left, he returned to my life and I knew this was the better thing love whispered to me years before. It took time, but all the great love stories do. With great love stories comes pain and hardship, but what makes them great is after going through all that, the love stands strong. Only through pain and challenges comes true love. Just look at Jack and Sam. Theirs is among the best I've ever heard, Daniel and Vala too. Then not too long after love blessed me in a way I couldn't possibly understand. Being stranded on a ship with the people I love was a blessing in disguise. For many years none of us would have been able to see it, but then Jayden came. This was a kind of love I've never experienced before; a kind of love only mothers can comprehend. When that love, that precious boy was going to be taken away I did everything in my power to keep that child. I gave him to a younger, less experienced me who I hoped would learn to love him the same and so I did. I love this child so much and this is one love that I will not be alive to see be taken away from me. So now I'm left with my family. Cameron and Jayden, the ones I love the most, Daniel and Kaycee, my best friends, Jack, Vala, Sam, and Teal'c, the rest of my family, and those who I still love but are no longer with me. These loves I have will never truly go. Love, such a wonderful thing, has bestowed such blessings on me I could never in my life repay it enough. Love, the blessing in disguise, love is simply something we can not live without. It took years to finally figure out that wise piece of knowledge. It is in the people who truly know love to show others what it can do for them too. It is the responsibility of those touched by love to pass it on so everyone knows what life can really be like with just a little bit of love in their hearts.
