Chapter Fifty Four

Finn was really nervous. He was going to be looking after the glee club for three months till Mr Shue was back and he really wanted to make a positive impact on the newly formed New Directions team. But he wasn't sure how. He decided to find Blaine since the younger boy had told him he would make a good teacher and this was sort of teaching, right? Finding him studying in the library, Finn took a seat opposite the dark haired boy, who seemed very deep in thought as he devoured the textbook in front of him, making notes here and there. After a few minutes had passed, Finn sitting patiently waiting for his friend, he knew how important finals were after all, Blaine noticed that someone was sitting opposite him and he sat back, placing his pen down on the table in front of him and giving his friend his full attention.

"Hey Finn, what's up?" Blaine asked in a friendly, open demeanour.

"I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I need to think up a lesson plan for glee club but I don't really know where to start. I mean I've come up with Foreigner, in all different languages and we can wear clothes from all over the world..." Finn looked over to his stepbrother's boyfriend and immediately saw that his idea hadn't gone down well, deflating him somewhat.

"Well, that's different... Maybe you should think about what we're all interested in though to start with. You might want to concentrate on the newbies, get them to really bond. Especially Ryder and Jake. They don't seem to really like each other very much right now. I think it's because they don't understand each other." Blaine greatly hinted at Finn, trying to get the horrible Foreigner idea out of his head once and for all. The others really didn't need to be tortured with that one. Blaine could see Finn's brow furrow in concentration as he tried to think of something that he could do with the glee club.

"Something you guys really like... Like what?" Finn asked, honestly not knowing what to do.

"Well, superheroes are all the rage at the moment. Just think about it Finn. Oh, and definitely don't do Foreigner in different languages. Just no. Alright?" Blaine stated frankly. Finn's face fell even further at Blaine's words, not understanding why his idea was bad.

"Why not? That's an awesome idea." Finn whined a little. He had been up for ages last night trying to come up with something that awesome. Blaine smiled his pity smile and looked up at the bell when it rang, shoving his things quickly into his bag so he could go to class.

Finn watched as his friend said goodbye and left the library and Finn behind as he rushed to his next class. "Well I thought it was..." Finn mumbled to himself a little grumpily before sighing and getting up to figure out what he could do now.

Having given himself the two weeks till sectionals to allow for his future self to get ready before going to go and see Kurt, who was still being distant towards him, Blaine knew he had time enough to help out his old friends that were still in the Warblers. Blaine wanted to help save the Warblers and give Nick back the captaincy if he could, but first he had to be patient and wait for Hunter to make his move. When Dottie Kazatori burst into the superheroes club meeting to say that someone had stolen the New Directions nationals trophy, Blaine knew that this was the moment he had been waiting for. Smiling slyly he rushed the superheroes to the choir room and pressed play to listen to Hunters little speech. Now was the time for him to act. It was time for he and Sam to don their superhero costumes and set out on their mission as Nightbird and Blonde Chameleon to save the day from the evil presence that was Hunter Clarington III. Turning to the others in the room, Blaine asked Tina to explain that he and Sam would be absent from glee as they were going to try and rescue their trophy and then turned to his best friend.

"I think we need a trip to Dalton Sam."

Sam was still looking at the laptops screen where Hunter was sitting frozen on the screen. "Was that Sebastian? What's he up to?" He asked his friend, confusion on his face.

Blaine shook his head at Sam's questions. "No. His name is Hunter Clarington and he's about to wish he had never messed with the New Directions. I'm just going to phone Nick, see what's happening at the other end." He reached into his utilities belt and pulled out his night-phone, ready to dial his old Warbler friend.

Sam seemingly content with Blaine's explanation, just stood expectantly, waiting for his friend to phone Nick. "Ok dude. You know I've got your back."

Blaine quickly dialled up Nick to see what the latest developments at Dalton were since there last conversation. He had not heard anything since and he was starting to worry about what Hunter may be doing at Dalton.

"Hey Nick." Blaine urgently called out when Nick answered the phone.

Nick, sounding really uneasy, replied without hesitation. "Hi Blaine. Don't worry you're trophy is safe. They have it locked in a cabinet on display. I don't know where the key is though so I can't get it back for you."

"Yeah I know. It's alright. I was really phoning to find out what Hunter is up to on your end." Blaine dismissed the significance of the stolen trophy. That could wait. Nick and his Warbler friends could not.

"Well, he has mentioned a secret weapon to use against New Directions and I don't think he means you, although he does want you back on our team." Nick relayed, sounding so grateful that Blaine was so willing to help them.

"Thanks Nick. Sam and I are coming to get our trophy back, but we'll help you out as much as we can too." Blaine comforted his friend, and he could hear the relief in Nick's voice when he replied.

"Thank you so much Blaine. You're the best." Blaine, saying his goodbyes, hung up the phone and turned to the ever patiently waiting Sam.

"Ready for some infiltration Blonde Chameleon."

Sam smiled widely, looking like he was going to have lots of fun. "Always Nightbird."

As Sam and Blaine ambled down the twisting staircase at Dalton, Blaine noticed Sebastian leaning against the wall at the bottom of the staircase. Blaine looked up to Sam and rolled his eyes at the shaggy haired blonde, who grinned broadly back. Sebastian was not a favourite of Blaine's and Sam knew it.

"Sebastian. What do you want?" Blaine asked the tall, lean boy icily, folding his arms across his chest. Sebastian, looking serious for once, came up to the two New Directions boys, his hands stuffed into his pockets, worry lines etched on his face.

"I heard from Nick that you were coming to get your trophy back. Just thought I'd say hi." Sebastian tried to appear nonchalant, but both Sam and Blaine could see he was anxious about something.

Blaine wasn't taking any chances however and cautiously responded to the Warbler. "You never go out of your way for anyone unless there's something you want from them, so out with it."

"Nick and Jeff may have mentioned that you are willing to help us with our new problem. I guess I was wondering what you were going to do. You do know that he wants everyone to take steroids for sectionals, right?" Sebastian told the boys, a sour expression developing on his face. Blaine nodded at the boy. He knew everything. Sam's eyes went wide at that piece of news. Blaine hadn't told him about that part.

"Yes. I know. Has he been explicit in that with all of you then?" Blaine questioned Sebastian whilst the boy was still seemingly willing to share information.

"No. Only me at the moment, I've been playing the dutiful minion so far so he would tell me things he might not relay to others, but I don't really relish the idea of taking drugs to win."

Blaine was surprised to hear this. Sebastian had been more than willing last time. He had been on the team, therefore he had taken the drugs willingly. But then so had Nick and Jeff. "So what exactly do you want to do?" Blaine asked him back, hoping he would have some sort of a plan of action.

"What have you got in mind?" Sebastian quickly bandied back, not helping Blaine at all. Blaine needed proof, without that he had nothing.

"Sebastian, we have no proof that Hunter wants to cheat. What exactly can we do?"

"I know where his stash of 'roids are." Sebastian quipped, stunning the two boys into silence. Eventually Sam replied.

"Wait, what? Then you need to tell someone about it. Like right now."

"That's your plan?" Sebastian smirked and rolled his eyes at Sam's innocent and trustful nature. Looking over at Blaine, he saw that the smaller boy's eyes had grown dark in anger.

"Dude, it's not cool to keep Hunter's secret. Or go along with it. Why don't you do the right thing for once and tell the principal about his cheating scheme." Sam sternly told the Warbler, making Sebastian falter and take a step back. Sam usually let Blaine do the talking so Sebastian hadn't realised how authoritative Sam could be and it had thrown him. He looked as though he was seriously thinking about what Sam had asked of him when he quietly replied, sullen.

"Fine." Sebastian walked off, not looking back at either of them as they watched his retreating form. Blaine smiled up at his friend. He was really proud of Sam at this moment in time. He had been very forceful and adamant about what Sebastian should do. Blaine didn't think it would work but he crossed his fingers, hoping against hope that Sam had gotten through to him at long last.

"Seriously, that dude is such a douche sometimes." Sam grumbled to Blaine, making the smaller boy chuckle, which in turn caused Sam to smile.

"Yeah I know Sam. Let's hope he actually does something about it and not just slink off to whatever hole he crawled out of. Come on. You ready to face Hunter?"

"I was born ready." They walked down the hall and saw both Nick and Jeff standing outside the practise room waiting ready for them both to arrive. At seeing their friends, Jeff seemed to perk up considerably.

"Blainey!" Jeff rushed to hug Blaine, picking the small boy up as he took him into a bone crushing hug, causing Blaine to squeak as he was thrown into the air like a rag doll and both Sam and Nick to snigger at Blaine's misfortune at being Jeff's target. Nick gently got Jeff to put their traumatised friend down and gave his own, smaller, quicker hug to his old friend.

"Thanks for coming Blaine. It really means a lot. You're a really amazing friend."

Blaine shrugged off the compliment. He would have done the same thing for anyone that he called a friend. "Don't mention it. I always help my friends."

"So what's your plan then?" Jeff eagerly asked, hope filling his face now that Blaine had come by to help out.

"Well, Sebastian might be coming through for us. We hope." Blaine winced at his friends and shrugged once more. He didn't know if it was likely to happen, but there was always a small possibility. Right?

"Sebastian? When did he start actually wanting to do something selfless." Nick raised his right eyebrow at Blaine, not convinced of the boys sudden decision to do the right thing.

"He met us at the bottom of the stairs. He said he wanted to help and he knows where Hunter is hiding his stash of drugs." Sam told Blaine's Warbler friends.

"Really? Well I know he doesn't particularly like Hunter. If he did then that would really be something." All the boys nodded to one another as Nick stated this and gave one another optimistic glances.

"Well, guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we? In the meantime. Sam and I will go and have a word with Hunter." Blaine broke the silence and pointed to the closed double doors of the practice room. Sam and Blaine waved at the two boys who stated their goodbyes and good lucks as they went back to their dormitories. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Blaine pushed the heavy wooden double doors open and walked into the Warbler's practise room, turning to where Hunter sat with his cat in his lap, looking just as evil as himself.

"So you're Hunter then." Sam called out, looking over the boy and dismissing him. Obviously Sam didn't think much of him.

"Well, my reputation proceeds me. Yes I'm Hunter Clarington III and I'm not even remotely bi-curious." He sat cross-legged by the fire, stroking his snowy white cat that glared at them evilly.

Blaine sighed audibly and folded his arms across his chest, acting as though he were already bored, just like Sam was. "That's nice. Give us our trophy back." Hunter got out of his seat at this point and padded his way across to Blaine, ignoring Sam completely.

"You know, I knew they would send you. And with your little Labrador puppy as well." Sam scowled at the large boy as he rudely likened him to a dog. Even though Sam loved Labrador dogs. Especially golden ones.

"Cut the crap Hunter and give us our trophy." Blaine spat out, having had enough of Hunter's game, but Hunter didn't look like he was going to surrender the trophy to them any time soon.

"You're a legend at Dalton, Blaine Anderson. I like that. I propose that I will give back the trophy to your New Directions loser club, if you come back and join the Warblers where you belong." He smugly told the dark haired boy, who was getting increasingly more angry as the conversation went further, his eyes looking almost fiery.

"No thank you Hunter. I don't believe in taking drugs to win competitions. I believe in using your own talents, and since I only have a few weeks left of school, why would I bother transferring? Especially here, with you." Blaine barked out.

"I could make it worth your while coming back."

"I seriously doubt that. Come on Sam, we'll get the trophy back later. Oh, and Hunter, I won't let you get away with what you're planning for sectionals." Blaine told the boy outright, giving him the suggestion that they had a plan already in place.

"Well, you are a firecracker, aren't you? I'm looking forward to sparring with you. See you soon. My offer stands till sectionals if you realise where the winning team lies." Hunter told Blaine, not showing any emotion on his face. He has a really good poker face. I'd love to see you maintain it when you get caught with drugs on your possession. Sam jabbed his finger into Hunters chest and puffed himself up.

"You'll never get Blaine and we are going to crush you. You won't know what's hit you till it's too late."

"Whatever you say dog." Hunter snarled as he watched their retreating forms leaving Dalton, their heads held high.

Finn was really thankful for Blaine's earlier advice. He had decided to go for the whole superhero thing, especially after Coach Beiste had told him a very similar thing to Blaine. I mean, both of them had to be right, didn't they? It seemed that the club was receptive to his lesson of the week, which he was relieved at and, although Ryder and Jake had started out aggressive with one another, they had seemed to patch things up with a push from Finn himself. He had still been keeping an eye out on the older members though whilst he was concentrating his lessons on the younger and he was getting increasingly more and more worried about Blaine. He seemed to look really sad, which confused Finn somewhat as he thought that he and Kurt were really happy with one another, but when he had asked how Blaine was he always said he was good and smiled as always. Finn had phoned Kurt to find out if he knew anything and had gotten his ear bitten off, making Finn very suspicious about what was going on with the two of them. He decided that he needed to have a bit of a word with the younger boy. After glee had finished he called out for Blaine to wait for a minute as he wanted to have a word with him.

"Sure Finn. What's up? Is this about the trophy because Sam and I are planning to go and get it later." Blaine put his hands up defensively, a look of vexation on his face.

"Um no, it's not, but great. Come sit down a sec Blaine." Finn waved his hands at the plastic chairs and started in their direction. They went over to the red plastic chairs, both perching on the edges of the seats. Blaine because he had things he would rather do, and Finn because he wasn't sure how to start with Blaine on the topic of his little brother.

"What's this all about Finn?" Blaine asked the tall boy suspiciously.

"What's going on with you and Kurt?" Finn blurted out, groaning internally at his lack of finesse. He watched the small boy in front of him shut down and put his defensive walls up, his face becoming emotionless.

"I don't know what you mean."

Finn sighed aloud at that in frustration and angrily bit back. "Don't play dumb with me dude. I phoned Kurt up to ask what was going on between the two of you and he almost bit my head off. Plus, you look sad all the time. So tell me what's going on. Please."

Blaine bit his lips. What could he say to Finn? That he was desperately trying to get Kurt to talk to him himself? That he was going to take the future version of himself with him to New York so that they could both tell Kurt the whole truth? The truth of everything was that Blaine was sick of lying. Of not saying anything. He just wanted it all out in the open now that he had decided as much, and so, taking a deep breath, he launched into his long story of how he met Kurt up to the present day. What was the point in not?

Finn sat in shock. He couldn't believe his ears as Blaine told him his long story. He had been through everything to do with Kurt twice? And now he was worried that it was all for nothing? That no matter what, Kurt would leave him and go to Paris where, inevitably, he would be killed. It all seemed way too much for one person to handle alone. Finn didn't know how Blaine had coped all this time. When he finished, Finn breathed out a long breath, whistling lowly as he did so.

"Whoa dude. That's some story. I'm not sure I can quite believe it all. But it kinda makes sense too. You always seemed to know what was going on. What was the best thing for people to do. So what are you going to do about Kurt? Does he know?" Finn scratched his head, looking sympathetic at Blaine's predicament.

"No. He doesn't. But I'm going to go and tell him. Everything. After sectionals is over I'm flying out. Future me is coming too. We're going to do it together and no matter what happens after that I'm determined not to let Kurt go to France." Blaine told Finn in a determined voice.

"Well, obviously. I'm not gonna let that happen either. I have your back man. You've had mine plenty of times and it's my turn to help. I'll get Kurt to talk to me, see what the matter is. Then at least you'll know what you're up against when you get there." Finn gave his friend a pat on the shoulder, which made Blaine smile wryly at his large friend.

"Thanks Finn. That means a lot. I just hope that it will solve everything." He told Finn tiredly. Finn realised just how tired he looked at that moment. Blaine really needed some time off. Or something to that effect.

"Me too man, 'cause you two are perfect for each other." Finn honestly told his little friend and Finn embraced Blaine easily, feeling the smaller boy melt a little at the strength of Finn's arms around him. Blaine sighed at a feeling of a little weight being lifted off his shoulders. Well, that's one person off the list...

Blaine and Sam had arrived in their respective superhero outfits for their mission to get the trophy back from the Warbler headquarters. However Blaine wanted to swing by Nick and Jeff first to see what was going on with the Warblers and whether Sebastian had actually told the school faculty about Hunters tactics for winning the show choir competition. The two best friends strode up to Nick's room and knocked audibly, the dark haired Warbler opening his door a moment later.

"Blaine." Nick looked taken aback, his mouth forming an 'O' of surprise. "What are you wearing?" His mouth turning into a wide grin at their colourful costumes.

"I'm Nightbird. The nocturnal avenger. Anyway, that's for later. For now I just wanted to see how you were getting along with the whole ousting Hunter thing." Blaine asked his friend, pity evident on his face.

"Erm, alright." Nick shook his head, trying not to laugh at Blaine's outstanding, yet very strange outfit and superhero name. "Well, come on in then." Stepping through the door, Jeff spotted the two boys and their costumes and squealed in delight.

"Oh my God. You are so adorable! Please help save us Blaine!" Jeff yelled into the dark haired boys ear, making Blaine wince at the proximity of the loud noise to his ear.

"It's Nightbird Jeff, and that's why I'm here."

"Oh my God Blaine. You have to save the Warblers. Sebastian has been suspended. He went to the principal and told him the story about Hunter and he suspended him for lying to him about another student. They didn't even search Hunter's room. And now we are supposed to go to this emergency meeting of the Warblers in the few minutes and we're worried he's going to try and make people take the steroids." Jeff babbled, getting faster and faster as he got more and more worked up about it all. Blaine, having placed his hands on Jeff's chest to clam him down and stop him from talking replied calmly and slowly so Jeff would understand everything he was telling him.

"Ok, well keep your phone on you and record everything that happens in that room. But don't make it obvious you are filming everything. Then Sam and I will go to the principal with the footage. They can't suspend us and with proof they will have to do something. We can say that if they don't we'll be giving the footage to the media and posting it online everywhere." Nick and Jeff looked pale as they worriedly glanced at each other, but they nodded their heads towards Blaine, having fait in their friend and his plan. Nick, putting his phone with the camera facing outwards into his pocket, ready for him to switch it on when he got to Warblers practise tried to remain calm about what he and Jeff were about to do.

"Will we get superhero names too?" Jeff asked Nick quietly, loving the idea of being a superhero and wanting a costume of his own.

"I'm sure if you ask Blaine nicely enough later, he will come up with something sweetheart." Nick told Jeff and then, noticing the time, bid farewell to both the other boys, taking Jeff to the meeting hand in hand.

"Well, time for us to get our trophy back before helping Nick and Jeff out." Blaine told Sam, who nodded his assent.

"Let's go." They took off in the direction of the cabinet to retrieve what was once theirs.

As Blaine had suspected, Hunter had told the boys that they had to take the shots of steroids or they couldn't compete at sectionals. Exactly as Trent had told them it had happened last time. Nick had gotten it all on camera and had handed it over to Blaine and Sam afterwards. After having taken it to the principal of Dalton Academy, who had looked thoroughly furious at Hunter having been found out, and immediately expelling the boy since he had got no choice but to, before then lifting the suspension of Sebastian, Blaine and Sam had gone back to Nick and Jeff to tell them the good news. They were now in the Warblers room celebrating, Nick having been told by the others that he was captain once more, and spending some time with the happy boys.

"Thank you again Blaine. We couldn't have done this without you." Nick hugged his friend tightly, Blaine reciprocating. Nick was one of his closest friends. That was never going to change and he was just glad he could help out and save the Warblers who he loved dearly in his heart.

"Hey, like I'm gonna let some idiot ruin your senior year Nick." Nick took them to a sofa in the corner as they watched most of the boys dancing to whatever music was pumping out of the speaker system at the moment. Sam and Jeff right in the middle of it all. Blaine only just realised how similar those two were to one another at times and chuckled to himself as he watched them together.

"How are you doing anyway? Haven't you got finals soon?" Nick nudged his friend, gaining his attention again.

"Yeah, they're starting next week. I think I'll be alright, but I am nervous." Blaine smiled weakly and Nick patted him on his knee in comfort.

"I bet you can't wait to get it over and done with and be in New York with Kurt."

"Yeah..." Blaine softly replied, leaning back into the sofa and exhaling noisily, a look of great sorrow coming over his face. Nick, surprised at this sudden change in his friend.

"What's wrong?" Nick asked, concerned for his friend.

"Kurt's being really weird and distant with me and I'm not sure why."

"This didn't happen before?" Nick asked and Blaine shook his head, his eyes getting watery.

"No. So I'm kinda failing around at the moment, not knowing what to do. I'm going to see him straight after sectionals though." Blaine suddenly gained a determination in his looks and Nick hoped that his friend would sort out whatever was going on between him and Kurt.

"You going to be ok?"

Blaine paused as he thought up a reply. Not really knowing what the outcome would be he tried not to get all his hopes up just in case things didn't work out. "I hope so. I've decided to tell him. Everything." Nicks brows shot up. They had been trying to get Blaine to do that for so long now that Nick didn't think he was ever going to tell.

"Wow. That's a big decision. Good luck. And if you need anything..."

Blaine cut him off quickly. "I know. You're only a phone call away. Thanks Nick."

"Well, what are friends for huh?" Nick beamed at Blaine, making him chuckle. "Now lets have some fun!" Taking Blaine's hand he led him over to the dancing boys and they joined in, giggling. Blaine the happiest he had been for weeks.
