Preferred Character:
I myself never really grew up with Pac-Man, my only experience with him came from World 2 which I find to be overrated a bit and a Pac-Man party game that is kinda mediocre. Also not a fan of his reboot series, the Ghostly Adventures. Better than his 80's cartoon though, that's for sure. Yoshi, on the other hand, is the main character of Yoshi's Island on the SNES which I love and this happy go lucky dinosaur has always been one of my favorites from Mario.
It's often not seen as healthy to keep on eating, but these two just don't care for that. No matter what, their hunger will never settle as they go on wacky adventures. Pac-Man, the hungry ghostbuster of Pac-World. And Yoshi, Mario's saviour and long time ally. And it's my job to analyze their weapons, armor, strengths, and skills to see who would win a death battle.
Pac-Man
Whether he's a student, teacher, maze runner, party host, or pellet eater, Namco's Pac-Man has been a major icon of gaming since the early arcade days. But whatever he's doing, you can bet that it'll involve busting some ghosts. When there's something strange in the neighborhood, you're gonna call Pac-Man.
Physical Traits:
Seemingly Endless Appetite
Incredible Strength
Superb Durability
Really agile
Light Toon Force
Master of Disguise
Stretchable tongue
Bounceable Body
His incredible appetite is far from his only power. He's incredibly strong and agile, with parkour skills for days. He's also quite bounceable and malleable, being capable of bouncing off of walls and being completely squashed without any physical injury taken.
Fighting Abilities:
Punches and Kicks
Ball Transformation
Short Tractor Ray
Fire Hydrant
Butt Bounce
Rev Roll
To beat down his enemies, Pac-Man utilizes a variety of punches and kicks as well as special moves. He can crush things and gain height with the mighty butt bounce and speed up by taking a page from Sonic's spin dash via rev roll. He's also somehow learned how to create a short ranged tractor beam to pull objects in and pull out a fire hydrant from nowhere. As you would expect, it'll hurt a lot if he chucks it at you.
Power-Ups/Transformations/Equipment:
Super Pellet
Red Ribbon Power Pellet
Electro Shock Power Pellet
Magic Boots
Mallet
Fire Balls
Bubble
Rope
Space Board
Magic Pen
Blaster
Power Berries
Ice Pac-Man
Fire Pac-Man
Metal Pac-Man
Chameleon Pac-Man
Granite Ball Pac-Man
Rubber Pac-Man
Spin Pac-Man
Shrunken Pac-Man
Balloon Pac-Man
Pac-Zilla
But his real power and versatility comes the large variety of power-ups and gear he's come across over the course of his adventures. By eating a Super Pellet he becomes Super Pac-Man, who is nearly invincible, can eat through doors, fly, and has greater strength than before. The Red Ribbon Power Pellet leaves a trail of light behind Pac-Man as he runs, upon completing a circle the light encloses the target and explodes. It also improves his running speed to make this scenario more likely. The Electro Shock Power Pellet gives him the ability to shoot electricity from his hands to paralyze enemies into submission. He can double jump with the magic boots, crush most foes with a mallet, shoot fireballs from his mouth, hold his breath indefinitely with the bubble, swing around via rope, and soar through the sky on a spaceboard. He's even packing heat with a blaster capable of blowing up robots, and can create either mindless clones of himself or temporary walls with the magic pen. Through multiple berries, Pac transforms into several different forms with their own specific power sets. Ice Pac-Man can freeze people solid, Fire Pac-Man burns them to a crisp, Metal Pac-Man makes him near indestructible and heavier, and Chameleon Pac-Man has a long sticky tongue and can blend into any environment. Granite Ball Pac-Man turns him into solid stone that can perform a powerful rolling dash, Rubber Pac-Man improves his bouncing abilities, Spin Pac-Man can create vortexes and fly, shrink down to mouse size with the Shrink Pellet, and Balloon Pac-Man floats through the air slowly. His most helpful form is most definitely Pac-Zilla, as it turns Pac-Man giant and increases his strength drastically.
Feats:
Defeated the building sized King Galaxian
Survived an explosion that launched him miles away
Tanked artillery fire to the face
Defeated armored bots with his bare hands
Broken metal with his bare hands
Survived in space, in magma, toxic waste, and electricity
Reacted to electricity and lasers
Steered a speeding asteroid (at most, 50,000 MPH)
Has eaten cars and spaceships
Recovered after being squished flat
Survived an exploding planetoid about the size of a large building
The Pac has been through thick and thin, and has more than proven himself to being a capable fighter. He's defeated the building sized Galaxian single handedly, and has even torn apart massive robots with his raw strength alone. He's strong enough to break metal boxes with a single kick and could react to lightning and laser fire. He's steered a speeding asteroid away from the planet once as well, which means he was steering an object moving at most 50,000 MPH. Oh yeah, and he can survive in space as well. In one of his space faring adventures, Pac-Man survived a large building sized planetoid exploding in his face with no seen injury on him. Actually, he takes explosions to the face on a regular basis. One such explosion managed to launch him several hundred miles away and make him come crashing down. He suffered no visible injuries. Combining his own durability with his malleable nature makes Pac very hard to even land any meaningful damage on.
Extras:
I'm looking mainly at the standard Pac-Man, with some Ghostly Adventures thrown in and not all of it. Ghostly Adventures Pac-Man has quite a different personality and even a unique storyline to himself that makes him quite different to his canon counterpart.
The Ghostly Adventures Pac-Man does have a power up that turns him into a planet, but it takes a little more prep and extra gear than he usually packs on hand.
Weaknesses:
none
While most of his power-ups only last a few seconds, it's all this man really needs to bring the hurtin. Whether they're ghosts or living, Pac-Man is a hero with a heart of gold and unbreakable will.
Pac-Man: Waka waka waka waka.
He gets the last pellot and moves on to the next stage
Yoshi
Background:
Before the epic battles of a tyrannical turtle and plumber from New York, there was a battle that determined the lives of all 7 star children. And their hero was a little dinosaur named Yoshi. The Yoshi's are a peaceful species who enjoy their peaceful lives on an island eating various fruits. But when a little baby Mario came from above they set out for adventure to reunite the child with his twin brother. While most of the Yoshis have moved on from this little adventure, the gold old green Yoshi has made frequent appearances, aiding Mario in any way he can or participating in races and parties. But even if he isn't the main character anymore, Yoshi still has more than enough tricks up his non-existent sleeves.
Physical Traits:
Superhuman Strength
Superhuman Durability
Extreme Agility
Long Sticky Tongue
Incredible Digestion System
Yoshi's are naturally incredibly strong and tough, tanking loads of damage like a champ and dishing it out with their powerful skulls. And with their long, sticky tongues they can pull any type of food or object towards them. Anything that fits in their mouth can be eaten and...shat out as an egg...huh. These eggs can be used as powerful projectiles that bounce off walls until they hit their target. They have iron stomachs as well, being able to hold such things as fire without suffering any self damage. But among their most defining traits are their incredible speed and agility. They can run at incredible speeds for extended periods of time, and match and even surpass Mario's own parkour skills and agility.
Techniques/Gear:
Long Jump
Spin Jump
Back Jump
Side Jump
Slide Kick
Triple Jump
Flutter Jump
Ground Pound
Slide
Crouch Kick
Eggs
Shield
Throwable
He's copied such jumping techniques as the long jump, back jump, side jump, and triple jump. Among the more useful of these special jumps is the spin jump, as it allows Yoshi to glide through the air until landing on his two feet. But Yoshi doesn't even need to charge up a powerful jump to gain some height. With his species' special technique, the flutter jump, Yoshi can stall his fall and slowly move upwards. Once above, Yoshi can come crashing down with a ground pound powerful enough to shatter solid stone. If his back's against the wall, Yoshi can also summon an egg around him to shield from powerful attacks or roll around like Sonic the Hedgehog.
Among other unique traits of Yoshi are his assortment of power-ups which provide various powers and forms.
Power-Ups:
Water Melon
Yoshi-Star
Red Yoshi-Star
Blimp Fruit
Power Flower
Mushroom
Yoshi Wings
Caps/Hats
Morph Bubble
Super Happy Yoshi
Golden Flutter Wings
Upon ingesting a watermelon, Yoshi can rapid fire the seeds like bullets. By absorbing the Yoshi-Star, Yoshi's own speed is drastically improved to a point of being able to run up walls. And he becomes totally invincible for a couple of seconds. The Red Yoshi-Star turns the dino into a rocket, Blimp Fruit inflates him like a balloon, Power Flowers let him breathe fire from his mouth, mushrooms increase his size and power, and fly through the air by eating either Yoshi Wings or a Blue Spiny Shell. While most of these only last a few seconds, he has more permanent power ups among other things. He can even take the forms of Mario, Luigi, and Wario respectively by putting on their caps and adopt their powers and traits. These forms do go down upon taking a hit, however. And by touching a morph bubble, Yoshi gets the ability to transform into either a car, helicopter, mole tank, bouncy ball, train, mine cart, hot air-balloon, and a submarine. Super Happy Yoshi improves his speed, strength, and durability as well invincibility as long as it lasts. And with the golden flutter wings he can fly indefinitely and is almost invincible with no time limit.
Feats:
Defeated a giant Kid Bowser
Survived stomach acid
Threw a metal egg twice his size
Has broken bricks and metal effortlessly
Potentially scales to Mario in speed
Broke a Koopa shell
Flipped over an elephant with ground pound
Pushed a chomp block as big as he is
Survived being fired out of a cannon
Has eaten enemies 4 times his size
Survived in outer space
Yoshi has journeyed with Mario through thick and thin, even when it came to the final frontier itself. He's strong enough to break metal and even obliterate Koopa shells, which are capable of flipping over cars before breaking. He's thrown a giant metal egg that was about twice his own size, and made that egg by eating a metal shy guy that as much as 4 times bigger than himself. Yoshi has pushed large boulders, flipped over an elephant thing with the shockwave of his ground pound, and is quick enough to run up pipes. It's even possible to scale Yoshi to Mario in speed, as Yoshi has shown to be just as if not faster than Mario himself. And Mario is able to pilot the rocket star at Mach 375 and react to lightning. Yoshi's are also tough enough to survive being launched into the sky and can withstand being fired out of a cannon with enough power to smash through bricks.
Extras:
Yoshi does have other unmentioned power-ups, like the Yoshi Cookie and Dash Pepper, but these power-ups provide effects that others do as well but better. The two just mentioned, for instance, only improve his speed and nothing else.
I also never use things like Mario party for character's feats. It's a party game with wildly varying situations that make no sense whatsoever and it is just unreasonable to assume that anything that happens there applies elsewhere in the proper Mario canon. So I don't count Yoshi swimming out of a black hole from this spin-off series.
Weaknesses:
Is a bit of a coward
While every Yoshi may be a bit of a coward, I mean god forbid they try and even set foot in a haunted house, they are still steadfast and strong. Whatever the reason may be, they will not give up once they've set their sights on a prize.
Yoshi does a little victory dance from one of his games.
The Battle:
Alright the combatants are set and all possibilities have been taken into account. It's time for a death battle!
It's a beautiful day on Yoshi Island, as Pac-Man brings over a basket of fruits to a picnic he's set up for himself. He picks up a pineapple with hunger and tosses it up to land in his mouth. However, before he can even close his mouth around the fruit, a long and red sticky tongue yoinks it away from the yellow man. Pac opens his eyes in surprise with a glass shattering sound effect just in time to watch as the same tongue steals the rest of his food. Pac-Man watches as the owner of the tongue, Yoshi, stuffs his face with his food and swallows it whole. Yoshi has a look of satisfaction on him and wipes his mouth. A quick little zoom in on Pac-Man's dead smiling face shows he's anything but happy. Yoshi begins to walk away, but stops once a fire hydrant bonks him in the head and forces the dino down.
Yoshi gets up slowly and sees the Pac leaping high into the air with a smile on his face and preparing to attack. Yoshi rolls out of the way of Pac's punch and uses his tongue to grab the fire hydrant like a bat to send Pac-Man flying back. As his opponent flies through the air, Yoshi quickly dashes to catch up and strikes Pac with his tail. Once in hitstun, Pac-Man is further struck by Yoshi's own tail attack and kicks. He ends the combo off with a headbutt that has the Pac on the ground. Yoshi flutter jumps above Pac-Man and prepares a ground pound. Pac sees it and quickly eats a metal pellet to turn into Metal Pac-Man. Yoshi's ground pound is stopped with a metallic sound, allowing Pac-Man to grab Yoshi and toss him away. He leaps above Yoshi and continuously ground pounds. Yoshi manages to avoid each attack and uses his tongue to pull Pac-Man into his mouth and make a egg to throw away. Upon impact, Pac-Man breaks out of the egg, is back to normal, and disgusted. Yoshi eats some nearby fruits and makes more eggs. With six eggs by his side, Yoshi tosses each one at Pac-Man in rapid succession. With each missed egg, yolk flies out as Pac-Man maneuvers around them and sees a berry tree with all he could ever need. Yoshi attempts to stop him, but is unable to as Pac-Man leaps into the tree and eats an ice berry. Pac-Man fires freezing ice balls that make the ground below Yoshi very slippery, and leaving him vulnerable to a freezing attack. Pac-Man leaps over and butt bounces on top of the dino, shattering the ice and launching Yoshi up for a quick kick to the ground. Yoshi sees a blue shell and power flower nearby, eating them up quickly and sprouting wings. With flight and fire, he is able to control the battle as he flies around Pac-Man's ice projectiles and burns the yellow sphere. Pac-Man rolls around to put out the flames as he returns to his normal form. Yoshi takes the opportunity to grab Pac and fly him near the atmosphere. Once almost there, Yoshi uses a Red Yoshi-Star to turn into a rocket. Exploding on contact, Pac-Man is launched out into space. The dino grabs the yellow man with his tongue in and the two begin a crash course back onto the planet. Yoshi is able to get the upper hand with a quick kicking of his feet through the flutter jump and forces Pac-Man away. He turns Pac-Man into an egg once again and throws him down towards the Earth. Yoshi eats a mushroom and grows to super size. Moments later he begins a ground pound to end the fight. But he does not notice as the egg begins cracking, with streams of light coming out, and just as Yoshi collides Pac-Man emerges in a bright explosion. Super Pac-Man appears, holding onto to Yoshi and pushing him down with flight, increasing their speed. With a mighty crash, Yoshi has shrunken down and Pac-Man has reverted to normal yet again. Pac sees Yoshi struggling to stand as he takes deep breaths. Pac then Rev Rolls with a tiny pellet in hand and launches at full speed. On the way he shrinks down and is swallowed by Yoshi. Yoshi looks around in confusion, but for a brief time feels intense pain as Pac-Man suddenly explodes out as he rapidly grows to Pac-Zilla. He looks around with a smile on his face, but is distracted after Yoshi's bloody shoe falls and bounces off of his nose.
K.O.
Reasoning:
God fuck...that is gross! Ahem... Pac-Man and Yoshi were very evenly matched in their raw physical strength and speed. Any advantages they did have were so slight it didn't really matter much. However, more times than not Pac-Man takes this from his better arsenal and abilities altogether. Yoshi was a little quicker, but Pac could keep up as he's reacted to and dodged lightning. Even if Yoshi had ever gotten the upper hand, Pac-Man has survived far more powerful explosions and physical hits in the long run. And when you combine it with his malleable nature, Yoshi couldn't ever land any meaningful damage through physical force alone. The biggest advantage in Pac-Man's favor, however, was his larger and better arsenal of power-ups and gear. While both's power-ups mostly only lasted a few seconds, Pac-Man's sheer abundance and greater variety of abilities on hand meant he'd more than outlast Yoshi's own tools. And since Pac has had more solo adventures, he was more experienced and capable than Yoshi has ever been. Yoshi just didn't pac enough power to take the victory.
The winner is Pac-Man.
Next up:
The edge is strong between these two red and black warriors. The life fiber/human hybrid VS the ultimate life form. I don't care if the latter has been used in two fights by now.
