Thank you for reviewing my story. I really appreciate it.

I don't own Bones.

Oooooooooooooo

Entering Booth's office, Harris found his friend sitting on the couch, his right leg propped up on a pillow on the couch. Frowning, Harris moved across the room and sat down on the chair next to the couch. "So you're looking good."

Surprised Harris was there, Booth closed his file, closed the lid on his lap top and smiled at the man. "Yeah, I'm not doing too bad. At least I'm in a shorter cast now and I can actually bend my knee."

"Uh, huh. . . How's the breathing?" Staring intently at Booth, Harris waited for the answer.

His hand on his chest, Booth frowned. "I'm actually worse off than I was before the accident when it comes to my breathing, but I'm healing and well . . . I guess I'll have to wait to see what happens."

Nodding his head, Harris sighed. "So all in all, you're recovering and you're feeling pretty good?"

Puzzled at his friend's tone of voice, Booth responded, "Yeah that's what I just said."

Standing, Harris placed his hands on his hips. "Good . . . Listen up asshole, what you did was ridiculous. Do you hear me? Running your truck into the bridge support column? My God you came so close to dying I . . ." Running his right hand through his hair, Harris swallowed. "We were looking for you, you dumbass. Why couldn't you just keep driving? Sooner or later we would have found you. You had no right to do what you did?"

His eyes flashing, Booth growled at his friend. "He said he was going to kill me and then he was going to come back for Bones. He was going to kill Bones. I couldn't let that happen. I stopped him and I'd do it again too."

Furious, Harris jabbed his finger towards Booth. "God . . . Listen to me, you should have given us time to find you. You didn't give us time. You almost died. Don't you get that, you came so close to dying I don't even want to think about how close."

Inhaling deeply which caused a round of coughing, Booth struggled to breathe normally for a few minutes while his friend stood by helplessly and watched. Finally breathing normally, Booth looked up. "I didn't want to die you idiot. I took a gamble that if I hit the support column on the right side of the truck I'd have a chance to walk away from it. I had my seat belt on. I put it on after I got in my truck and Carlson put the gun to my head and told me to drive. My original plan was to ram a car or truck, but I was afraid that it wouldn't be good enough and he'd get away."

His breath too short for comfort, Booth placed his hand on his chest and tried to control his breathing. Once his breath was no longer ragged, he continued, "My plan was to drive him as far as Pennsylvania and then I was going to ram a tree or something. He started talking about killing me and Bones and I couldn't risk driving any further. I had to stop him and I did . . . It's done. Clary is in jail, Tassin and Carlson are dead and Taffet is sitting on death row. It's done now get off my fucking back. I protected Bones and I'd do it again."

Returning to the chair, Harris shook his head. "Look, you think you did the right thing, but you should have given me more time to find you. I had everyone looking for you. If you could have held out until you got to Pennsylvania then maybe we could have rescued you."

Booth knew that Harris was wrong. "You would have never been able to rescue me, Morris. He was going to kill me no matter what. If some State Trooper had pulled me over, Carlson would have shot me and took his chances. He might have got away and then he'd have gone after Bones. I couldn't take that risk. I had to stop him and I did."

Leaning back on his chair, Harris stared at his friend for a while. Shrugging his shoulders, he finally relaxed. "Fine . . . Fine, you did what you had to do. I tried to talk to Taffet to try to find out why Tassin was killed and buried in the Rose Garden, but when I asked her she just sat there and looked at me and smiled. I've never wanted to strike a woman in my life until now. She just sat there with that damn condescending smile and refused to say anything about it.'

Curious, Booth asked him, "Did she say anything when you told her that Carlson was dead?"

Snorting, Harris nodded his head. "Yeah, the bitch said one word . . . good. She's a cold blooded bitch and I can't wait for her to pay for all the shit she's done. I'll be there as an observer when she dies I can tell you that. I want to be there when she breathes her last . . . Oh, Clary is going on trial for murdering that woman he had the affair with. Just letting you know."

Annoyed, Booth moved his hand away from his chest. "You know my breathing is almost normal until you come around."

Amused, Harris laughed. "That's because I'm the only one that will call you on your shit."

Guffawing, Booth shook his head. "Ha, that's a laugh. Bones doesn't put up with anyone's bullshit and that includes mine."

His gaze moving towards the empty doorway he saw the hallway was empty. Harris leaned forward and spoke softly. "You should have seen Dr. Brennan when she saw you in the hospital. You scared the hell out of her. The next time you want to play hero try not to get hurt in the process, alright?'

Subdued, Booth nodded his head.

Ooooooooooooo

Sitting on their bed, his back against the headboard, his right leg propped up on a pillow, Booth watched as Brennan got ready to take a bath. "Bones, you do know why I did what I did, don't you? Carlson was going to kill me and he was going to come back and kill you. I had to stop him. I didn't intend to kill myself. My plan was to hit a tree, but the bridge column seemed like a better choice. I thought I could ram my truck on the right side and my seatbelt and the airbags would protect me or at least keep me from being killed. Carlson wasn't wearing a seatbelt. It was my best chance to stop him and I took it."

Brennan kept her eyes on her hands while she unbuttoned her blouse. "I understand that that is what you think, Booth."

He wanted her to see that he'd done the right thing. Leaning forward, Booth placed his hand on his right knee. "I did what I had to do, Bones. The guy was a murderer and God knows what would have happened if he'd got away. He'd have come after you and maybe Hodgins and Angela and . . . I didn't want to risk him running loose. I had to stop him."

Her shirt partially unbuttoned, Brennan looked up. "I understand, Booth. I understand that you think your life is not important as mine and I want to know why."

Startled, Booth shook his head. "What? The guy was going to kill me, Bones. He had a gun to my head and he was not going to let me live. I took the only risk that I had to maybe save my life and certainly save yours. I didn't do anything wrong. I've told you before that I'd die for you and I meant it. He wasn't going to let me walk away from him. I did what I did because it was the only option I had. I tried to save myself, but if I'd died then it wouldn't have mattered because you'd have been safe . . . You would have been safe."

Clenching her fists, Brennan glared at her husband. "I don't want you to die for me, Booth. I want you to live for me."

Booth lowered his voice and held up his hand. "Look, I'm not a genius like you, okay? I couldn't think of any other way to stop the guy. What I did gave me a chance to survive while killing him or at least hurting him pretty badly. It was the only plan I could think up that would save you and gave me a chance. I want to live for you Bones. I do . . . I just don't want to live in a world where you aren't in it, okay? Don't be mad at me for what I did. I did it for me as well as you. I survived and Carlson is dead. Taffet and Clary are in jail and they're never getting out. We're safe from them. They can never hurt us again. We're safe."

Walking around the bed, Brennan sat on the mattress next to her husband. "Booth, I understand why you did it. I do. I just . . . I love you Booth and I don't want to live in a world without you either. Now, I don't want to talk about this anymore. You survived and that's the important thing." Leaning over, she kissed him.

His hands on her shoulders, Booth returned her kiss until they were both breathless. Separating, Booth waited until his breathing had returned to normal. "I love you, Bones."
