Chapter Fifty-Three: The Travels of a Weary Polo

Polo's POV

The nerve of those petty little humans. Throwing me around like that...and nearly lighting my on fire...and drowning me.

The fire-boy, Ace, I think my pet cat had called him...had decided it would be a brilliant idea to PUSH me off the ship. I did not FALL.

I was too graceful to do such a clumsy thing.

Stop looking at me like that.

My pet was a nasty little thing. But she was smart. She chose me out of all those insignificant feather-brain infants. I was so much better than them. I knew this world much better than any of them. I had seen it all...Flown over all of what the human's called Grand-line. I had landed on that island that all those strong humans were fighting to see.

Now, I was on my way back to that Inn where my pet human-cat was waiting. She was an odd little thing. Spoke cat, smelt cat...acted human, smelt human...spoke human.

My guess was she ate one of those swirly fruits...Devil Fruits. It made my human...a cat.

She wasn't a nasty cat though...so I could stand it.

I rose higher into the air, flapping my wings in graceful movements. It broke my heart, seeing my once magnificent feathers fall into the ocean far, far below. I hated getting old. Of course...I was around when that Roger boy wasn't even born...Probably before his parents too.

Ah...the world was only just getting interesting...and I was falling apart! I blame it on the troublesome people out there...always throwing me off buildings...out windows...off ships...trying to eat me…

I grumbled angrily to myself as I banked to the left, floating over an oh-so-familiar prehistoric island where a large volcano was erupting. The sight of that island made my heart sing so sadly.

I used the heat created by the boiling hot lava to give myself a boost...something to glide on while I took a nap. I dozed for a bit, and awoke in time to land on a marine ship. I used this as a chance to sleep for longer.

I was always tired now a days...Not as young as I used to be...Ah. Those were the days. The Gulls wanted to be just like me...the Swans adored me...wanted me to adore them...Oh how the times have changed me. The thing I missed the most were my feathers. Such a beautiful shade of orange...that shined like a summer sunset, or amber in the sunlight...

I woke up at dawn the next day and continued on my way. It took me a while to compose myself properly...and then I was booted by one of those ruffian thugs...was this what passed as Marines now a days? I remember back when they actually put those brats through school and then sent 'em on their way when they were old enough to use their brains.

I managed to save myself from another attempted drowning. I flew over that terrible place where the tenryuubito lived. At one time, I delivered a message there...and I was lucky to escape alive. The snotty little boy, he tried to feed me to a two headed crocodile with a banana on its heads...

Who needed a double bananadile?!

Of course...I've seen a three-headed dragon once...on an island shaped like a ship...but that was a very long time ago.

I banked to the right, avoiding a surfacing Seaking before diving lower as I came in for a landing on an island just at the opening of the Grand-line by Reverse Mountain.

Laboon was still slamming his head against the rock…the poor kid. I ruffled my feathers against the wind as I hopped up towards the lighthouse.

The older human, Crocus was reading the newspaper outside today. He and I were once Nakama. Those were good times.

I let out a caw of greeting as I made my way over to him. He looked at me in surprise. "Polo, you old crow!"

I was deeply offended. I ruffed what was left of my feathers and lifted my head higher so I stood up to his mid-thigh and glared, muttering to myself. Insolent humans.

"Relax, I was only joking." He chuckled, "I haven't seen you in a while. How are you, old friend?"

I shrugged, letting out a cough. A handful of my feathers drifted to the ground.

The old man looked at me in concern, before he pulled out a stethoscope. Of course he would do this. The dumb flower. I was fine. The cough would be gone in a bit. In a couple of months, I knew I'd be as fit as Pierre in no time.

After Crocus went through his rant about me flying the globe in my condition, and he relaxed enough, I decided it was time to return to my Human. Before I left though, I noticed my human's picture in the paper.

She stood alone on a beach, behind her, there were fires reaching into the sky. Her clothing was stained with blood and singed black. She had calico hair and a large grin on her face. She gave the camera a peace sign with her fingers. Below, it said: Cheshire Alice, Wanted Dead or Alive B 100 000 000.

Ah, what a dangerous human I had. That was good though. I knew she would be able to take care of herself while I was away. Speaking of my human…I had better give her this message.

I cawed a good bye to Crocus and Laboon before went over the mountain and made my way to Logue Town.

It was simple finding the Inn she was staying in. When I landed on the window sill, I saw her sitting on the bed staring at the wall with a look of pure terror. She was miles away, but where ever it was…it was a scary place.

"CAW!" I shouted, drawing her attention back to the real world. She jumped in surprise before darting to the window. Her blond hair came to rest on her back as she opened the window for me.

"Polo, you're finally back!" She grinned, patting me on the head before she picked me up and placed me on the desk in the corner of the rom. She pushed a plate towards me. The plate had an enormous sandwich on top.

I cooed merrily to my human before hooking my wings under the sandwich and gobbling it up. I lifted my leg up, offering her the letter.

When she read it, pain flickered through her eyes. She quickly closed her eyes. When they opened again, she was smiling and nodding to herself.

"Well…Polo…It looks like we're Whitebeard Pirates now."

I scowled. Did this mean I had to deal with that flaming ruffian again?

So...this was mostly a filler chapter...Sorry. I'm working withmy mom's computer right now, since my laptop decided to be a troll...which is why it took so long to update.
