Amu's POV
"So, the transitions are going well?" Dr. Davidoff asked as she flipped through my file.
"Yup." I said, already knowing the next question, beginning to relax.
"Please show me." I nodded as she held up three fingers. Once she reached one finger, I relaxed fully as she started counting the seconds as my vision blurred and all feeling left me.
I blinked, welcomed by the familiar void as I floated down into a the endless black scenery, my feet causing a rippling affect as I touched ground. In front of me was Amara, her dark clothing a contrast to my white blouse and blue jeans. She didn't even glance back as she stood, her giving answers to questions I couldn't hear.
We weren't two alternate personalities that shared a mind anymore, we were more like two souls in one body.
I glanced around, seeing what Amara lived with. Whoever was in control of my body saw the outside world, got to live. The other person, me in this case, was stuck in this black void doing nothing, watching the other stand their in control. If said personal was in control longer than an hour in outside time, their body here faded, leaving the other alone.
But whether it was one minute or one hour, or even a month, any time in here felt like an eternity.
Consumed in my thoughts, I almost didn't notice when Amara looked back, saying, "She wants you back out."
Nodding, I stepped forward into the ring of slightly less dark ground as Amara stepped back.
Blinking once, I was back in control, and with a glance over at the clock, I confirmed that I'd only been in the void for three minutes.
"Well, Amara seems stable." Dr. Davidoff said as she scribbled down some notes. "So Amu, there haven't been any...problems, right?"
"Problems?"
"As in Amara becoming to hostile, power hungry. She hasn't tried taking control when it isn't her time, right?"
I shook my head, "No ma'am. She's well behaved and nothing's gone wrong."
"You're sure?" Her gaze said she didn't completely buy my story, but I smiled at her.
"Of course. After all, she's only in control when she has to be."
She stared at me for a long moment before finally nodding and lifting a hand, waving towards the door of her office. "You're free to go. I'll be meeting with you again in two weeks."
Standing, I bowed. "Of course, goodbye Dr. Davidoff."
"So you want me to turn someone?" I asked, not even phased. The Director has mentioned the idea before, but he ever seemed to be serious.
"Yes, we actually have someone picked out already." He sighed at my confused look. "If the plan to ruin the Guardians is to work out, I'd feel better if you had someone there to back you up if things go wrong."
His concern was touching, but I was slightly worried.
"Who exactly would I be turning? And how?"
"When Amara has been out, we've done some testing. She can control others, control people to do anything she says. She has been able to turn a weaker chara bearer into someone as dark as her- the bearer was fine and is back to normal I assure you- and we'd like you to do the same. I'd like you to make yourself a partner, someone who can help you in your situation."
"A...partner? For Amara?"
"Well, the partner we've picked can also help you in your normal form as Amu. Like...a best friend."
"You aren't telling me how I'd turn them."
"The same way you control the X eggs. Through that lovely voice of yours. And you don't even have to do it yourself. Just let Amara do it if you don't want to." I nodded slowly, thinking it over, trying to figure out how to ask the most important question.
"Who will I be turning?"
The Director stared at me, his gaze calculating as he sighed. "No one you'd need to worry about. They've agreed to everything, and we just need your okay."
"They've...agreed?" I asked, something about the way he said it sounding off.
"Of course. We've discussed the process and everything, they're completely ready when you are."
"Okay. I'd like to meet them. This afternoon."
"Yes of course." The Director stood up, pulling his cell phone from his pocket. "Now, Amu if you would, I'd like to speak with Amara."
"Yes Sir."
Letting Amara take over, I let myself think about what would happen later.
Had someone really agreed to such a thing?
"But who?" I asked, already knowing there was no one in the empty void to hear me.
"Are you sure about this Amu?" Su asked as I made my way to the Director's office, pocking my head in to make sure it was empty.
"Yeah. The Director said there was a tape while he was on the phone."
"So? The person agreed so it's probably just evidence in case someone isn't happy about it." Miki said as I made my way over to the Director's desk, checking the safe under it. It was where he kept all current information the lab sent up for him to see. Hopefully that included the video tape.
"You don't have a key." Dia sighed and I waved her off.
"I don't need a key. Come on Akemi."
Akemi nodded, already knowing what to do, character changing with me. "Cat's Key, unlock." Holding a hand up, a dark blue rod the size of a key appeared. Holding the end against the safe's lock, it thinned out, sliding in easily and given a few moments, it molded into the side key match for the lock.
Turning the key, I pulled open the safe's door. Finding only files I grabbed the one labeled with a name similar to the project the Director said this experiment would be called. Flipping through it, I found a DVD and figured that was it.
His computer was already unlocked, since this one was only business business, not undercover business. Slipping the DVD in and opening up the only file in it.
The room in the video was way to familiar to me, because it was the same one I'd been put in during the first few experiments.
"The holding cell? Why would a volunteer-" My question was answered before I could finish asking.
"Let go of me! What the hell are you doing?!" Even though the voice was slightly distorted from the camera's quality and all, I still recognized it in a heart beat.
The door was thrown open, Castiel forced into the room and on the bed, metal bindings keeping him in place as the men holding him left the room.
Moments later the Director walked in as Castiel struggled, demanding to know what was going on when he saw him.
"Nothing, we just need you for a little experiment." The Director said, motioning a woman in lab coat in.
It was Dr. Davidoff.
"You see, I have big plans for the Chara bearer world. And for those pans to come true, I need more than just Amu to work for me. You're the closest match to her powers, so I'll use you as well."
"Amu? What have you done with her you bastard? Where is she?!"
"She's safe, training for what's to come."
"What's to come?"
"You'll find out soon. And Amu won't know until it's to late."
"Bastard-"
Before I could finish the tape the screen went black.
"Little girls shouldn't go messing in their Boss's things." The Director said, grabbing my shoulder in a bruising grip as he spun the chair around. How had I not heard him?
"Bastard, let me go!" I hissed, throwing him off me and making a break for the door.
But it was locked.
"Amu!" I whirled around, seeing the Director pull some sort of vaccination from his pocket.
"Calm down. It's only a sedative. Nothing to worry about."
"I'll scream and someone will hear." I hissed, turning to Akemi. "Amulet Star!"
"Not so fast." The Director said, smirking. "Amara, take control."
I did't even have time to blink. I was yanked out of my body and thrown into the void. Only this time Amara looked back at me as she took control.
She looked at me with apologetic eyes, but I knew it didn't reach her dark heart.
"We'll talk later, wench." I hissed at her as she turned away smirking.
What was going on here? I needed to get back control. I needed to help Castiel.
Now that time has passed from those moments, I can see it all really should've been obvious. I should've seen it, should've known to never trust a man like him who ran on hatred and personal gain.
How had I been so blind?
