Jack flew happily through the halls of the Pole. His laughter echoing through its halls as Bunny gave chase. It had always been Jack's way of distracting Bunny from what weighed on his mind. To Bunny a kiss on the nose was a challenge, and Jack liked taking advantage of that when he could. Had they been back in the Warren the action would no doubt lead to a night filled with pleasure, but here at the Pole it was a game. One Jack had decided to use to distract his mate from what they had been discussing. If only for a moment.
Bunny chased after his mate happily. All thoughts of their pervious conversation forgotten if only for a moment. To lost was he in the thrill of the chase to think of any one other than his mate.
The pair rounded a corner and began down the hallway that would lead them to North's study and ultimately the old Cossack himself.
Bunny used the change in direction to his advantage. Putting more energy into his movement Bunny bounced off the wall. For the briefest of moments that followed the two were once again side by side. A moment Bunny again took advantage of by grabbing hold of his mate. Knocking him from the air sending them tumbling to the floor. Bunny all the while being careful to take the majority of the force from the impact. Though despite this when they finally came to a stop they landed with Bunny a top straddling Jack's hips a paw on each side of Jack's head to support Bunny's weight. Their eyes meeting and locking on one another. The scene looking very much like it did they day they had kissed for the first time in the snow.
Both panting heavily as they continued to stare each other in the eyes playful smiles plastered across their faces.
"Told ya ya didn't want ta race a rabbit luv," Bunny panted in a mocking yet playful tone.
"What you called that a race," Jack replied sounding a bit winded "I thought we were taking a stroll through the Pole," his smile only growing wider as he saw the stunned look Bunny gave in response.
Though Bunny was use to hearing such banter from Jack even after they became mates. He hadn't expected to hear so soon again. The ease there seemed to be for them to fall back into old habits was surprising. It was only further proof that his mate truly didn't remember what had happened to him. The sound of Jack's laughter broke Bunny from his thoughts. Bunny looked down to his mate as he laid beneath him trying to contain his laughter.
"Think thats funny do ya," Bunny asked narrowing his eyes playfully. Though in the moment Bunny had lost himself to those thoughts the amount of playfulness seemed to have dulled. It wasn't lost on him that Jack had pretty much just call him slow. Jack only continued to laugh at Bunny's expense "alright 'ave yer laugh but you'll pay fer it later," Bunny narrowing his eyes even further.
"Oh I'm counting on it," Jack replied in a low voice as he reach a hand up and ever so gently began to rub Bunny's ear in a way that always drove him crazy. He hadn't missed the way some of his mate's playfulness had drained away from his eyes. Jack want to distract his mate from the gravity of the situation if only for a few moments longer.
For a moment Bunny was stunned by the action, but soon that surprise turned to pleasure as he melted into the touch of his mate as Jack continued to rub his ear ever so gently. Without even realizing it Bunny began purr or at least the rabbit equivalent to it. He leans down and begins to nuzzle at Jack's neck both to show his appreciation for the action as well as to convay how much he loved Jack in that moment.
Jack couldn't help but giggle even more as Bunny's whiskers began to tickle his neck. It was only when Jack stopped rubbing Bunny's ears, and Bunny continued to nuzzle his neck that Jack realize this couldn't continue without consequence. It was with great reluctancy that Jack pushed Bunny away.
"Aster we can't not now," Jack said regretfully already missing the contact of Bunny's cool nose to his bare neck.
"Why not luv," Bunny asked trying to continue to nuzzle at his neck. His instincts were wanting to take over. His need to once again claim his mate as his own wanting to drown out all other thoughts and action. Jack's plan to distract him from their currant situation had worked as fate would have it a little too well. Now instead of fighting of unpleasant thoughts of what had been the past month Bunny was fighting the urge to whisk Jack off to the Warren.
"You know why," Jack whispered. And just as quickly as Jack had awaken Bunny's more animalistic nature he revived his more logical side with only three little words.
Bunny ceased purring as well as trying to nuzzle at Jack's neck. Instead his sank into Jack chest where Jack held it petting his ear once more only this time in a more apologetic motion.
"I'm sorry Aster," Jack said apologizing for what he wasn't quite sure of.
"Naw ya 'ave nothin' ta be sorry fer," Bunny replied after a moment sounding slightly disappointed. He knew it was too soon to try and go that far with his mate yet he almost let his instincts get the best of him. He let his nose remain buried in Jack's chest for a more moments before lean back so that they could both get up "we should probably be findin' North and lettin' 'im know anyways," Bunny said as he pulled Jack to his feet.
North sat in his study trying to complete the last of the paperwork Phil had given him earlier that morning. He wanted to go check on Jack and his guest, but with Christmas less than three months away he had to finish the final paper work on this years toys. After the week they had spent as Pitch's captives they needed this year to go smoothly. That one week had hurt their number of believes though not nearly as bad as the year Pitch had ruined Easter it still had hurt. Their only saving grace had been Tooth's fairies who in Tooth's absence had manage to keep up with tooth collection.
North laid down his pen and glasses as he leaned back in his chair. He rudded at his eyes tiredly. Despite having spent the day only doing paperwork North felt exhausted. What was it about staring at papers that seemed to drain his energy. He opened his eyes once more to stare at the remaining papers that sat before him. Their weren't too many left about another hours worth if he was lucky. North looked over to the clock it was a little past seven in the evening. Looking once more to the stack of papers.
"Ah it can vait till the morning," North said as stood from his desk. He was tired of sitting and looking at papers. He had completed enough to keep the Yeties busy from then until November. There was no rush to complete the last few remainding orders. At least this was the reason that went on in North's mind. What he was more interested in was going and checking in on Jack. Though he normally wouldn't disturb Jack simple to check on him he was just too curious about Jack's visitor.
As the old Cossack was about to make his way to the door there came a firm knock. North rounded his desk as he answered.
"Enter," North called wondering who it could be. The door remained closed a moment longer before it finally open greatly to his surprise to reveal both Jack and Bunny.
"Ah Jack, Bunny vhat pleasent surprise," North greeted happily "come in, come in," North said as he motioned for them to enter further. The two entered without argument. The sight of seeing them together warmed North's heart. It had been too long since he had been able to see the two in the same room let alone at one another's side.
"Hey North," Jack said shyly with a wave of his hand. He was nervous North could tell by his voice, but why he could not. Perhaps it was because of Bunny's presence that was making him feel that way. Though a moment more of observation quickly put that thought to rest. The closer to Bunny Jack was the more at ease he seemed to be.
"Vhat brings de two of you to see me," North asked cutting to the chase. If there was one thing he had learned over the last month was Jack and Bunny didn't spend as much time as they used to.
"We umm came to tell you something," Jack said stuttering slightly.
"And da vould be..." North asked leaving the question open. He raised an eyebrow slightly and leaned against his desk arms crossed as he wonder why Jack seemed so nervous.
Jack swallowed hard against the lump that was forming in his throat. Telling Bunny hadn't been this hard. Though Bunny had more figured it out rather than Jack telling him flat out.
As Jack struggle to find the words he felt Bunny rest a paw on his should to comfort him. He looked up at him only to be met with an encouraging look. An action that was not lost on the Cossack that still stood before them.
Looking back at the Guardian of wonder Jack felt his confidence increasing taking one final breath "I've regained my memories," Jack stated as he exhaled.
North continued to stare at the couple for a moment more as he took in what Jack had just told him. The moment it did the curious looked North wore turned to one of pure delight.
"Ahha," North shout with glee "dat ees vonderful," he exclaim as he rush to envelope his son into a hug. One moment he stood by his desk the next he had Jack enveloped into a bone crushing hug.
"Uhh...North...you're...cru..shing...me," Jack gasped as he struggled to take in air. After which North promptly let go.
"My apologies my boy ees just vonderful newz," North said with a huge smile plastered across his face "I must asked how, vhen ah no matter ve call Tooth and Sandy den you tell," North stated as ideas began to flood his mind "den ve have big feast to celebrate," North said as he head for the door and began to shout out order to the unlucky yeties who chose that moment to pass by the study.
As North shouted orders Jack shot Bunny a wary look. Bunny on the other hand only shook his head.
"Come now Snowflake ya 'ad ta know North would get carried away when ya told 'im," Bunny said with a snicker. Jack only glared at him for finding the currant situation in anyway amusing. To which Bunny respond by only snickering more before he guided his mate out the door to follow the Guardian of wonder.
Author's Note:
Well that one was easier to write than the last one. Hope you guys enjoy cause I'm about ready to crash. Please review and tell me what you think. Next chapter is as you can guess when they break the news of Jack's return in memory to the others. Doubt it will be very long though cause honestly I starting to get board of the arch. I want to write about something new. Until next time...
