"What?" Nanashi exclaimed. "You know how women get pregnant Kurama. Besides, I was pregnant before."

"Haven't you heard about what's been happened with the other human women who have had children with demon men?" She shook her head. "Surely you doctor told you about it." She shook her head again. "Why didn't she?" Nanashi bit her lip and looked away. "What happened at your last appointment?"

"Nothing major, all normal," she lied hastily.

He narrowed his eyes at her. "Nanashi, what happened. Spare me the details, but don't lie to me."

Nanashi sighed internally. She paused and looked at him quickly. "She insulted Hikari and Hiei, so I stormed out before my check up," she admitted. "Hiei doesn't know. I didn't want him to either."

"Scared how he'd react?" She nodded. "How do you think he'll react to what I'm about to tell you. With the exception of you, all human women who have had a child with a demon man cannot conceive again."

"What? That's... how?..." Nanashi put a protective hand on her lower stomach.

"Doctors believe demons may have rhesus blood factor different from humans. Where humans have positive and negative, demons have none; are neutral. When a human woman has a child with someone of a different rhesus factor and is not vaccinated during her first pregnancy, she cannot carry another child to term. Miscarriages result for the humans."

Nanashi felt sick. "You think I'll miscarry him?"

"I'm not sure. Your the first human woman to conceive a second time with a demon man. I would say this will be a high risk pregnancy. It's risky enough as it is for you to have a child with a demon. Somehow you carried the twins with more ease than the other women."

"Is that why you wanted to stay here when you found out about my pregnancy?"

"Yes. And our first step is finding another doctor who doesn't run her mouth about demon-human relations or hold back valuable information." Nanashi whined under her breath. "Let's head back. Maybe he went back to the castle."

The two of them walked back together, Nanashi following solemnly behind Kurama, glad it was not Hiei.

When they got back to the castle, Yasha met them in the hallway. He motioned for them to follow him into a small room off to the side. He stared at Kurama a bit too long and too friendly.

"My ladyship, what happened with his lordship?" Yasha asked quickly and quietly. Nanashi always felt weird when he called her that.

"Uh, he and I got into another fight," she said quickly.

Kurama sighed heavily. "She's pregnant with a boy-" Kurama began.

"Congratulations," Yasha interrupted. "I have a nephew myself."

"And, Hiei is not happy about it-" Kurama continued.

"Because of that damn council pressuring us for another daughter," Nanashi interrupted this time.

Yasha gave her a mysterious look. "Damn them. I agree. Which is why he came to me and not them."

"Why you?" Kurama asked.

"That he needed his space, as usual. Instructions that you," Yasha gestured to Kurama, "are in charge until he returns. A job is what you asked for. Apparently only you are the one to keep Yomi at bay. I'm sure he'll be back when he's good and ready. You know how he is my lady."

Nanashi was confused. "Why not me? He once promised me I'd be in charge should he run again."

Yasha shrugged. "The council. It seems the anti demon sentiment in the human world is reversed in the demon world." Nanashi gritted her teeth. "You're a demon and he trusts you more than me. A wise choice?"

"Yes," Nanashi agreed tensely. Yasha was too slick and liked to tell half truths.

"It seems to me like pregnancy should not have upset him so much..." Yasha continued. "Yet, the council is adamant about a girl. I wonder if Lord Hiei's friend here can't convince them that the new boy is just as worthy an heir."

"How do you mean?" Kurama asked.

"Mukuro's will, as written by her ladyship states a female line where Izo does not inherit. It does not say a younger brother could not inherit. Now, it isn't fair for Izo to be so easily passed over, but so long as there is another child, this could work. The new boy could have daughters just as much as Hikari could."

Nanashi put her hands on her hips. "Yasha, what are you planning?"

Yasha winked at her. "Some cleaning up in the council room is all." To Kurama he commented with another wink, "maybe I'll let you help me along." He turned his gaze slowly back to Nanashi. "My lady, you should rest. You may be carrying an heir that isn't Yukina." He winked again.

Nanashi stared at him dumbstruck. Kurama spoke first. "What do you know of her?" he asked in a hushed whisper.

Yasha smirked. "Enough to know she's a secret."

Nanashi grabbed him and slammed him against the wall. She grabbed him by his shirt collar. "Speak plain to me. What do you know?" She shook him for good measure.

Yasha looked frightened for a split second. "Only what I've been told in confidence," he answered coolly. He tried to remove one of Nanashi's hands from his collar, but to no avail. "You can't be the only confidant his lordship has. And only the second most attractive." The wind dragon came up to Yasha's face and hissed and snapped its jaws.

Kurama stepped up and put a hand on Nanashi's shoulder. He gripped it and gave a gentle squeeze. Nanashi gritted her teeth and let Yasha go. She side stepped out of Kurama's hand.

"Only a gay man could touch her so openly and live to tell the tale," Yasha added flirtatiously. "Or a eunuch." Yasha reached a hand towards Nanashi, but she took a hasty step back from.

"Don't touch me," she hissed.

Yasha held up his hands. "My apologies my lady."

'I don't trust him,' she thought to the wind dragon.

'That makes two of us. He's hiding something. Something big,' the wind dragon thought back.
