Chapter 53
Veran was becoming impatient. That gerudo Saska and those ten soldiers she sent to the desert were taking forever to return back with the rest of the gerudo army. She began to fear the worst. Did Ganondorf mange to escape her imprisonment? Was he on his way here right now to exact his revenge upon her and the turncoat Gerudos? She began to take precautions. There were two watchtowers built in front of both entrances. She was thinking of using the Hyrule Resistance's shield idea only making them a lot stronger. She gathered all of the Gerudo soldiers and addressed them all.
"Hear me! I want you all to watch the roads carefully for any signs of enemy movements. I don't like this. Saska and her troops should have been back by now with the rest of the army. This leads me to believe that something happened in the desert. Jaska, organize the troops so they can take shifts watching the roads for activity. I don't want to be ambushed. In the meantime, I am going to perfect a barrier spell so we will be protected from enemy attack just like the resistance had. Only I aim to make mine indestructible You have your orders! I will be in my house."
She walked away towards the former headquarters of the Hyrule Resistance. After she took Kakariko form them, she didn't really make many changes. She liked everything as it was and she didn't want to lose it to anyone. As soon as she was out of earshot, the Gerudo began whispering to each other.
"Who are we watching the roads for?"
"Why is she so paranoid? She could likely handle any enemy that tried to bother us!"
Jaska held up her hands.
"Okay, that's enough! I don't want Veran to hear any of your comments. You will do as ordered."
She walked up to ten random soldiers and separated them into two groups. She then issued them orders.
"Okay I want the five on the left to go near Death Mountain. You other five are at the other entrance. I will come to relieve you all in about six hours. Keep your eyes open and come see me immediately if you see any signs of life."
On of the soldiers tapped her on the shoulder.
"Um, Major? Don't you miss your sister?"
She smiled as she wiped a tear from her eye.
"Of course I do, soldier. I don't know what I would do if something happened to that rogue. She taught me everything I know. I'm sure she will be back soon. No need to worry."
At that exact moment, Saska was sitting outside Ganondorf's tent. She was feeling rather nervous and worried about her sister at the same time. She may be back with Ganondorf once more, but what will happen to her when Veran finds out about her? She looked over at the ten troops that traveled with her. They were talking with other Gerudo soldiers and laughing. They didn't seem to care either way. She shrugged. They were merely lower ranked soldiers after all. She was also glad they had not tried to kill her as Veran likely ordered them to do if she changed sides. She walked over to the ten troops. They looked up at her.
"Something we can help you with, ma'am?"
She nodded and hunched down in front of them.
"I have a few questions for you all. Did Veran ever give you any orders before we set off?"
They looked at each other and then looked back at saska and nodded.
"She told us to kill you if you changed sides."
Her breath caught in her throat.
"I-I'm glad you didn't, but why didn't you?"
One of the soldiers snorted.
"Because we didn't want to be under Veran's command in the first place. We all thought she was Ganondorf from the beginning. I'm sure you thought the same thing. We are still loyal to you and Ganondorf, General. I hope we can find a way to put an end to Veran and her tyranny."
She wiped a tear from her eye.
"Wow. You are all loyal soldiers. I'm proud to call you all Gerduos. Hopefully, Ganondorf will manage to contact his brother."
One of the soldiers cocked her head to one side.
"He has a brother? I didn't know that. Where is he now?"
She nodded.
"He has a brother named Onox. He Lives in Holodrum, a faraway province far to the east of here. He left here long ago shortly after Ganondorf was named King of Gerudo Thieves. He told us he was going to follow his own destiny."
Another soldier piped up.
"Wait a minute. How do you know where he is?"
Saska explained.
"A messenger arrived here one night a few years ago. He was completely exhausted and required a place to sleep. We reluctantly gave him a place to sleep for the night while we kept a close eye on him. The next morning, he began to tell us about the far away land he traveled from and he presented a letter to Ganondorf. It was from his brother. It explained how he was gradually taking over the land called Holodrum. He also mocked and insulted Ganondorf in the letter. After reading it, he tore it up angrily and tossed it in the fire. A few days later, the messenger thanked us for the hospitality and made the long journey back to Onox. I think that was also the first time we were actually nice to someone else other than our own kind."
The gerudo soldiers sat in silence. Saska spread her arms wide.
"What's with the silent treatment? What did you all think of my story?"
One of the soldiers turned to face her.
"We didn't mind the story, but we are worried about Onox. If he comes here, is he going to be ruthless and demanding?"
Saska dismissed the idea.
"Don't worry about that. I'm sure Ganondorf will keep things under control."
She walked over to Ganondorf's tent and stood guard in front of it. She sent soldiers out to see if they could find any trace of the Hyrule resistance. She was hoping they would be back by now. Suddenly, a gerudo soldier came running up to her. She threw Saska a salute.
"Reporting in, ma'am! I have some news that I must share with Ganondorf!"
"Well, what is it? He is very busy right now and asked not to be disturbed!"
"I believe I may have found members of the Hyrule resistance at Lake Hylia. What I saw was very...unusual."
Saska looked at her oddly.
"Unusual? In what way?"
The soldier cleared her throat.
"Well...There was seven of them. Two humans, one shadow being , one cloaked figure and three fairies. The two humans and the shadow being...Turned themselves into zoras!"
Saska gasped in shock. She had never heard of such a power.
"That's an interesting story. You'd better talk to Ganondorf right away. Sir! A returning scout has some news for you!"
A annoyed groan came from inside the tent.
"What is it? I told you not to bother me!"
Saska had an apologetic tone to her voice.
"I'm sorry, sir! I will tell the scout to come back at a later time."
She was just about to tell the scout to come back later when Ganondorf's voice reached her ears.
"Wait! Send her in! This better be important."
The scout was led in front of Ganondorf. His eyes were red and tired looking. He looked at the scout.
"Make your report and make it quick! You disturbed my concentration."
The scout stood to attention.
"Sir! I believe I found members of the Hyrule Resistance at Lake Hylia. They were near the entrance to the lake temple and I was hiding on the island above them."
Ganondorf smiled.
"Well done, scout. I'm glad this wasn't a waste of my time after all. What did they look like?
"There were seven altogether. Two humans, one tall and the other very short. A shadow being that resembled the tall human. A cloaked figure that had strange markings all over it and three fairies I continued watching and the short one began taking his clothes off an one of the fairies zapped him and he turned into a zora!"
Ganondorf gasped.
"What? I never knew a fairy was capable of wielding such power. Carry on. Did they all transform into zoras?"
She nodded.
"Yes. The tall human turned into a zora and then the shadow being did as well. Afterwards, they dove underwater and never resurfaced. I figured they must've entered the temple."
Ganondorf scratched his chin reflectively.
I know of these people. They defeated my phantom and killed the dragon in the Fire Temple. The tall one is called Link. Others call him The Hero of Time. The shadow being is that traitorous Dark Link. I don't know about the small one or the fairies, but I have seen that cloaked figure around before. If my brother is willing to help us, he may be able to help me get rid of them. Good work, scout. Go and get some rest. On your way out, tell Saska not to disturb me at all!"
She saluted smartly and left the tent. Saska was sitting outside. The scout walked in front of her.
"Ganondorf wanted me to tell you that he doesn't want to be disturbed at all."
Saska nodded in reply. The scout turned around and walked over to a group of Gerudo soldiers
Ganondorf sat down once more, closed his eyes and attempted to concentrate. He was trying to communicate with his brother through telepathy. He put all of his power towards establishing a link. After intense concentration, Ganondorf opened his eyes and found himself in a white void. Suddenly, he saw something appearing there with him. He moved closer to it and he realized it was his brother. He was kneeling down and he wasn't quite in the void yet. Ganondorf whispered to him.
"Come on, Onox. Open your eyes and get up."
Suddenly, he opened his eyes and at that moment, he was in the void completely. He shook his head and looked up at Ganondorf.
"Is that you, Ganondorf? Why have you brought me here? What is the meaning of this?"
He grinned.
"Settle down. I've brought you here because I need your help."
Onox stood up. He was very tall. He was at least seven feet tall whereas Ganondorf was only five feet tall. He wore a full suit of brass armor. He smirked at his brother's request.
"Why should I help you, oh great King of Gerudo Thieves? I should've been king!"
Ganondorf rolled his eyes.
"Not this again. I'm not spending another day arguing about this. I was chosen to be king and that's that. I'm much more than that now. I'm the king of Evil and I touched the Triforce."
Onox sneered.
"Big deal. Am I supposed to be impressed? I can still wield far greater power than you ever will with your fancy Triforce!"
Ganondorf gritted his teeth.
"Are you going to help me or not?"
Onox laughed.
"That depends, brother. What do you need my help with? Leading an army? Or how about casting spells? I wager you still need a lot of help with that! Hah hah hah!"
Ganondorf was trying his best to keep his temper at bay.
"No. I can do those things perfectly! I need you to help me put a stop to one of my creations. I also need your help to eliminate certain people."
Onox started to laugh.
"You can't even control your own creations? This is too funny! I'm absolute ruler of Holodrum. Nobody has been able to stand against me yet. Many have tried and I just turn into a dragon and bite their heads off! Can YOU turn into a dragon?"
Ganondorf sighed.
"No I can't! Quit bothering me and help me!"
Onox smiled.
"Okay. Tell me what your creation did."
Ganondorf frowned.
"Why should I? You're going to laugh at me even more!"
Onox crossed his arms.
"Tell me or I won't help you."
Ganondorf sighed.
"Fine! My creation was completely obedient at first, but she wasn't very evil. Then I got one of my most skilled spell casters to put more evil power inside of her. That was a big mistake. Shortly after, she paralyzes me, steals my identity and leads my army looking like me."
Onox fell to the floor laughing.
"That is too funny. You are such a dope. If it was me, I would have already destroyed her by now. Then again, I would have never let anything like that happen in the first place. Fine. It looks to me like you need serious help if you let something like THAT happen, so I'll help you. On one condition."
Ganondorf groaned. He didn't like the way Onox said "condition".
"What is it, Onox?"
Onox smirked.
"I want to be in charge of your army."
Ganondorf couldn't believe his ears.
"What? You must be joking. You know I'll never agree to that! I just got free and in charge again."
Onox sighed.
"Then I'm afraid you're on your own. Either I'm in charge of your army or I don't help you at all. Make your choice, brother."
Ganondorf gave the dilemma some serious thought. He knew that Onox was a very powerful sorcerer and he doubted that anyone would be a match for him. But to give up his command? He cursed angrily. He wished that he had another option, but getting his help was the best option he had. Hopefully, Onox would be able to put a stop to Veran and Link in one fell swoop. Onox interrupted his thoughts.
"Well? Have you made up your mind yet? Do I stay where I am in Holodrum or do I came back to Hyrule as leader of the Gerudo? What's your decision?"
Ganondorf sighed reluctantly.
"I don't see any other way around this, so it's a deal. You can be in charge if you help me."
Onox cheered wildly.
"Good choice, brother. I can't wait to see my new army! End this telepathy at once and I will show you what a true sorcerer can do!"
Ganondorf quickly put an end to the telepathy and opened his eyes again. He was back in his tent. Suddenly, Saska came running in.
"Sir! There's something outside you need to see!"
Ganondorf and Saska walked outside. Saska pointed over near the entrance to the desert. There was something glowing. He and Saska walked over to investigate. Saska was astounded. It was a red glowing portal.
"This is amazing! Who is creating this portal?"
Ganondorf knew right away.
"My brother Onox is creating it."
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the portal. Many of the gerudo gathered around the portal. Ganondorf greeted the figure.
"Hello, Onox. I have to admit, that was an impressive entrance."
Onox smiled. He turned around and waved his hand in front of the portal. It glowed red and the portal closed instantly.
"I told you I was a very skilled sorcerer. Now, don't you have an announcement to make?"
Ganondorf sighed and turned around to face all the Gerudo.
"Attention everyone! From this day forth, my brother Onox here is the new leader of the Gerudo and I will act as second in command."
There was a loud audible gasp from all of the Gerudo. Onox sneered.
"I can't make a much bigger mess than Ganondorf did when he was in charge. I want to make one thing clear. Unlike my brother, I possess very powerful magic. So don't disobey me. If anyone dares to cross me or disobey me, I will bite their head off!"
Onox held up his hands. They started to glow green. Within minutes, he started to glow green until his body could not be seen. Suddenly, he started to change shape. He grew much bigger and taller and wings protruded from his body His feet grew big and massive in size A tail began to form from his rear as well. His head grew much bigger and horns grew out from each side of his head. Within a few short minutes, he completely changed shape. The green faded from his body and he was a dragon! All of the Gerudo gasped in shock. He laughed softly.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to eat anyone. This is merely a demonstration of my true power. If you don't listen to me, you'll either end up burnt to a crisp or beheaded!"
Suddenly, he glowed green once more and he changed back to his original form. He looked at the stunned Gerudos.
"You are all dismissed for now. I have to talk to my commander about important things."
All of the Gerudo rushed away, glad to be away from Ganondorf's brother. Onox laughed.
"I think I scared them. The Gerudo have sure become cowards. No wonder. Look who was leading them. Well, down to business. You want me to help you eliminate your creation?"
Ganondorf shook his head.
"Not yet, brother. I need you to follow me to the Water Temple. We have a few Zoras to fry inside!"
