"I'm terribly sorry I couldn't have this meeting moved to another day, but Mr. Uley's lawyer made it clear it had to happen today." Riley sighed deeply as they entered the courthouse where the meeting would take place. "I will do my best to make sure this goes as smoothly and quickly as possible so you'll be able to get back to the hospital as soon as possible."

Leah nodded as she squeezed Edwards hand tightly in her own. "Did his lawyer happen to mention what this meeting is all about? I thought everything was settled until it is time for the actual trial?"

Riley shrugged his shoulders while at the same time wishing he had the answers she was seeking. "All I know is they want to talk about the possibility of making some sort of deal. We should find out more in a few minutes, but for now you know everything I know."

"They want to strike a deal? You mean to reduce his jail time and charge him on a lower sentence?" When he noticed the other man frown, he got his answer and Edward was absolutely furious. "No, no way! We cannot let this happen. He deserves to pay for what he has done. How can you even think about allowing something like this to happen?"

"We have to explore every possible option." The lawyer stated with irritation coloring his tone. "It's my job to make sure Leah is informed of all the choices she has in front of her. Now I don't like this anymore than you do and if it were up to me, we would never have come here, but it's not my choice, it is Leah's choice and legally it would be in her best interest and the interest of the case to at least hear what they have to offer."

"Riley is right and you know it." Leah stated as they entered the room where Sam and his lawyer were waiting. Leaning a little to the left, she whispered in the doctors ear. "I know how much you hate him and I am right there with you, but as I said, Riley was right and we need to hear what they have to say. All lI am asking is that you do not allow Sam to bait you because he will. Please just ignore anything he says or does alright? I need you to be my strength today since I doubt I could do this without you."

Edward nodded in reply before pulling out her chair for her and sitting down next to her. He was silent as he surveyed the two men sitting across from him. Sam Uley tried to keep his face blank, but Edward could detect a big of smugness in his eyes. The lawyer seemed to be calm as he set both of his hands on the table.

"You all know why we called this meeting today so how about we skip the small talk and get right down to business?" The laywer, Mr. Caius, let his cold gave fall on Leah Clearwater. "Ms. Clearwater, as I understand it, you have just given birth to a son who requires a new heart correct?"

The only female in the room cleared her throat before answering. "Yes, that is correct."

Caius smirked and everyone in the room could tell he was pleased with the answer Leah had given him. "I have been informed by Mr. Uley that you wish to be granted completely custody over both your daughter and son and he is willing to give in to your request if you are willing to drop all charges against him. He is also willing to give you sole custody to one of the children if you agree to let him plead guilty to a lesser charge."

For a few very tense moments Leah was stunned in to silence. On one hand she knew that if she took either of the options she would have at least one of her children, but there was a part of her, a chunk of her heart and her head that was telling her she couldn't give in even if it would assure she got to keep her family. What would her children think of her? This wasn't just about justice for what had been done to her, but also for Bree and all of the other girls who no longer had a voice. Leah knew she needed to be their voice, she needed to tell the world what kind of man sam Uley was and make sure he never again had the chance to hurt someone in the same way he had her and countless other women over the years.

"No." The first time she tried to speak the word it came out as a raspy whisper so she cleared her throat and tried again. This time the words came out more clearly and firm. 'No, there is no fucking way I would ever agree to either of those options. You both knew what I would say; this was just some sick ploy to pull me away from my son so-"

Edward and Riley both came to the same conclusion at the exact same time and jumped out of their seats. "Edward, you take Leah and get to the hospital as soon as possible. I am going to call Charlie Swan and we will be there as soon as we can with the entire police department if we have to be. Go, go now and run if you have to. I get the feeling we may not have much time."

Leah turned to Edward as she let go of his hand. "Take the care and get to my son as fast as you can. I am going to get ahold of Jake, Seth, my mother, and your family as well. If someone really is after Caleb then you have more of a chance of taking them down physically if you have to than I do. Please Edward, please protect our son."
