52. He's never really seen her 'working' before. Whenever he sees her at her office, she's always clicking at something on her computer, filing, or reading up on whatever concept has interested her.
But this is something different, the way she's kneeling before Mairu, speaking softly, holding her hands, nodding slowly. Not as though she's consoling her for the loss of a relative or calming her fears or reassuring her everything was going to be all right, but somehow doing all of them at once and yet none at all. She's on an entirely different plane than they are, transcending what they know as reality and returning a sense of clarity to the waiting room. Mairu crawls into Mai's arms, and the young medium accepts her, tucking the girl's head under her chin and murmuring something he doesn't hear.
"Amazing, isn't she."
Shizuo glares at the info broker, but it's a waste as Izaya's not looking at him.
"The way she's able to coax the answers out of her. I understand she uses this technique with her spirits in order to convince them to let go of this world and move on to the next. What's that face for, Shizu-chan?" He asks, still watching Mai. "You don't really believe I had something to do with this, do you?"
He wants to believe it, but is Izaya really twisted enough to involve his own sisters in one of his schemes? Surely that was a line he wouldn't cross. "If not you, then who was it?" He retorts.
"I don't have enough details myself to narrow down our culprit, but I can tell you who sent him." He turns to look at him. "And I only say this free of charge because I have a feeling he may be after Mai, too."
