Drabble #52: Je parler le français.

Set in season two before they start dating.

"And what does 'un tailleur' mean again?" Patricia asked narrowing her eyes at Eddie. He had been assigned by Mrs. Andrews as her French tutor, seeing as Eddie was fluent in the language. He pinched the bridge of his nose, and shook his head.

"Forget that. Une cravate." He picked up the tie that was looped around her neck, as if signaling that was the word. "Un chemisier, et des bottes." He pointed at her blouse, and then her boots. She took notes subtly.

"Why is French so confusing?" Patricia sighed, causing Eddie to suppress a laugh.

"Let's start with something simple then; like articles." Patricia groans. "Okay. 'Je,'means I. 'Tu' and 'vous' both mean you, but 'tu' is informal whilst 'vous' is formal. Understand?"

"Sort of..." She muttered, and wrote them down in a chart. He smirked a little, and started playing with her hair. "Don't touch me!" He held his hands up in fake surrender.

"Is it that confusing, really?" Eddie asked.

"Well excuse me for not taking the language since I was a child." She scoffed, tapping her pencil against the table. Trudy was in the kitchen behind them, watching the soon-to-be couple bond closer every second. She smirked and silently observed them and pretended to be pretending supper.

"Just- focus on the basics, this is as simple as it gets, Yacker." Patricia spine shivered as the nickname rolled off his tongue, causing him to smirk.

"Well what about some of the other stuff?" She asked quietly.

"Like what?"

"This is boring. Let's play like a French game or something." He rolled his eyes, but eventually gave in.

"Fine. It's called 'Let's Reveal Our Secrets In French'." She gave him an odd look, but they both began the game. "You start."

"Okay... How do you say I'm sixteen?" She wondered.

"First off-not a secret. But it's j'ai seize ans."

"Okay, j'ai seize ans." She repeated. "Your turn."

"Alright... je vous aime." He spoke with a thick French accent.

"What's that mean?" But before he could respond, Trudy was already calling for dinner with a knowing smile.

So when the next day came, and that Mrs. Andrew's French one class learned that 'aime' meant like, and that sometimes the French language is in a different order than English. And now, Eddie's message was clear:

I like you.
