In the stillness she held him close, listening to the sound of his heartbeat. For a moment she closed her eyes, allowing this reality; this wonderful, perfect reality to fully sink in.

"Daphne, I hope that I didn't upset you." He said softly.

"No, of course not. And I didn't mean to react the way I did. I was just… surprised."

His smile disappeared. "Daphne, I don't want you to feel like you're alone; especially after everything you've been through. But if you'd feel more comfortable leaving the arrangements the way they are, I completely understand."

She ran her fingers across his chin and smiled. "I can hardly wait to spend the night with you Niles Crane. I love you so much."

"This is our last night together and I want it to be special."

His words drew her out of her blissfulness and into a vision of the reality to come. She swallowed hard, as though pushing the thought from her mind would make it untrue.

"It is our last night together, isn't it?" Her voice trembled, despite her efforts to steady it. And as though sensing her sadness he drew her close, cradling her head against his chest. His fingers were stroking her hair; a touch that sent ripples of love through her body. And when he spoke again, his voice was gentle, warm.

"It's hard to believe. So many things have happened this week."

She tilted her head until their lips met. "I know what you mean. It feels like we arrived here a lifetime ago."

"Seems surreal doesn't it? You make one instantaneous decision, not knowing how it will turn out. I mean, I hoped and dreamed that something good would come of our week here together. But I never imagined this."

"I don't want to go home." She said, pulling him in tighter. "I love it here. I absolutely love it."

"Then let's stay." He suggested.

She laughed softly at the idea, which was incredibly tempting. But there were so many things left unsettled back in Seattle. "We can't. I-." she stopped suddenly; her soft gasp brought his surprised gaze to hers.
"What's wrong?"

Reluctantly she pulled out of his arms. "I can't believe I forgot."

"About what?"

"The phone call. I really need to use the phone."

He shook his head. "Oh Daphne, I'm so-."

Her lips pressed against his, and she felt him shudder from her touch. "No apologizes, remember? I hate to leave this wonderful moment but this is something I need to do. I won't be long, I promise. I'll be right back."

"All right."

She gave him one last kiss. "I love you."

"I love you, too."

She hurried into the cabin, aware of how different it felt. In the course of only a few hours, this place had been transformed. And in another sense it felt exactly the same; like home. It was no longer the tucked away cabin of the man whom she'd secretly and reluctantly fallen in love with only a few weeks before, ignited because of a secret that his brother had unknowingly let slip. It was the place where she'd laughed, cried and argued with the man she loved with her whole heart. Her best friend. The man who loved her in exactly the same way, if not even more.

Even now she could not believe it. Her dream had come true.

She walked through the cabin, conjuring up memories with every step. She'd remember her week here with Niles for as long as she lived; the good, the bad, the sorrow, the jealously, the anger, the hurt, the forgiveness, the happiness, the secrets and the love. She would treasure those memories forever. This week was without a doubt, the happiest time of her life.
