Sasuke sat on the roof of his apartment complex. He twirled a shuriken around one finger, closely watching the motion. He had changed his clothes to go training or maybe to walk around the village looking busy, but he lost the desire to go farther than his home. He also lost the desire to stay inside his home.
His thoughts were closing in on him.
Being outside was no better, but every now and then his senses would register the fresh air or the movement of daily life, and it would ease his mind back to reality.
Not that his thoughts were any less of a reality.
He was trying to make sense of himself and the actions of others, but he could only understand the actions of others as it related to himself. If someone was training, then a clear mind was trying to be obtained. If someone was training with others, then a mission was coming up. If someone took a walk in the evening, they liked to keep to themselves. If someone was angry, then Naruto pissed them off.
Sasuke smirked, rolling his eyes.
Maybe not Naruto, but somebody pissed them off.
So he was trying to understand himself and others better, but it wasn't working. It probably wouldn't work this way.
Sasuke stared at his shuriken a second longer before pocketing it. He stood and rubbed the back of his hair, gripping near his neck. "Fuck."
Sasuke walked the halls of the Academy. It was the middle of the evening, so only those teaching would still be here. Grading papers and following lesson plans never appealed to him, but many from his graduating class tried it at least once. He couldn't understand the interest. Maybe the rest just wanted a break from missions.
Absurd.
He approached a classroom right as the light inside shut off. The door opened and Hinata took a step out and paused. She blinked tired eyes before sobering a bit.
"Sasuke," she greeted.
His brows knitted. "We need to talk. Privately."
Hinata regarded him. She looked away as though she were going to say something to deny him, but she shrugged to herself, intrigued. She turned the light back on and sat down at one of the tables. "What do we need to talk about?"
Sasuke stepped inside and closed the door. He lingered there before sitting at a table diagonal to her, one row up. "Why did you have sex with me?"
Hinata stared at him, waiting. "What do you mean 'why'?"
"What was your reason?"
"My reason?" Hinata looked at the ceiling briefly, genuinely thinking. "I don't know. Maybe…I was curious?"
Sasuke sat up straighter, seeing if he could make sense of that. He couldn't. "Curious about sex?"
"Curious about sex with you." She stared at him again. His hands were clasped together on the table, and his intense stare lost its edge; perhaps that had more to do with the emotional color on his face. "Do you regret it?"
"Do you?"
She shrugged. "No."
Sasuke exasperated, almost slumping over the table. "That…" He ran his hand through his hair, shaking his head. "You didn't drink anything that night?"
"No."
"So you were sad?"
Hinata scrunched her brows. "No."
"So you chose to have sex with me? Of your own will?"
Hinata smiled with true humor. "Yes."
"So… Why did…" Sasuke looked to the side, frowning hard despite his embarrassment. "Then what was that? You can just have sex…like that?"
Hinata deflated. "Like what?"
"Like… Like THAT. Like you… Like it was…" Sasuke bit his lip and let himself crumple on the tabletop. He lifted his head slightly, keeping Hinata as a blurred shape in his sight. "You didn't feel anything?"
Hinata laughed coyly. "I felt lots of things."
Sasuke shot up. He was getting impatient. "You couldn't have sex like that unless you felt something for me," he bit out.
Hinata leaned on her hand, a small curve to her lips. "I wouldn't know, Sasuke."
He didn't say anything. He was starting to doubt anything he came up with so far.
Hinata stood and started walking to the door. "It's important that I know. It's important that we both know what it's like to…" She paused, looking back at Sasuke. "Make love? I think that's what you're getting at." She walked to the light switch and looked back at Sasuke once more. "I'll teach you if you teach me."
Sasuke stared at her until her meaning registered with him. He bit his lip, fighting down the heat rising in his body. "I was right."
"Were you?" She flicked the lights off. "Let's find out."
