"Get up, get up!" Dani heard as she rolled so that her face was pressed against her pillow. "Dani, get up! We're ice skating today!"

Dani wanted to sleep more, even though she was sure it was likely already ten in the morning. She didn't have work at the diner until Friday, after New Years, so she was enjoying every moment of sleep she managed to get. But hearing Santana whine for her to get up was enough to force her to roll over and open her eyes.

Santana was standing over her, smiling widely. Honestly, Dani wasn't excited about the ice skating. She always fell on her ass and ended up shivering with her jeans soaked from the ice. But since Santana had agreed to dinner at the diner on New Years Eve, she figured it was only right to agree to this. Even though she knew that Santana's compromise would be much more worth while.

"Are you awake?" Santana asked her softly, bending down and pressing a kiss to her lips.

Dani felt a smile appear on her face as she opened her eyes more. "I am now."

"Good," Santana said, smiling down at her girlfriend. "I made pancakes."

"You made pancakes?" Dani questioned, raising both of her eyebrows. "This is new!"

"You could at least be grateful," Santana told her grudgingly, even though she knew that Dani was just joking around.

"Of course I am! I want my pancakes!" Dani exclaimed, jumping out of the bed, getting laughs out of Santana. They went out into the kitchen and ate their pancakes. "Santana, these are amazing!"

"All those times watching you make them clearly made me good at it, then," Santana decided, grinning. "Today is going to amazing."

"Well, if you can keep me from falling on my ass repeatedly on the ice, then maybe it will be," Dani responded.

Santana pouted. "Aw, you're not excited."

"I'm trying to be excited, but I really suck at ice skating, Santana. It's going to be so embarrassing," Dani grumbled, crossing her arms.

"Dani, nobody is perfect at everything. However, I happen to be perfect at ice skating," Santana said cockily. Dani rolled her eyes. "I'll teach you how to ice skate, and by the end of today, no one will have ever imagined that you didn't know how to ice skate before."

Dani looked at Santana unbelievingly. "Seriously, you haven't seen how bad I am."

"Well, I taught Chelsea how to ice skate. I also taught Brittany and Rachel and Quinn. I think it's safe to say that I'm a pretty good teacher," Santana insisted. Dani pouted and crossed her arms.

"I'm going to change. When are we leaving?" Dani asked, standing.

"Whenever you're ready!" Santana answered smiling widely. Dani huffed, but she couldn't help the smile that appeared on her face. She was a least a little excited.

Dani changed into warm jeans, long socks and tennis shoes, a sweater, a scarf and a slouchy hat. Once she decided that she was warm enough and that at least if she made a fool of herself she would do it stylishly, she smiled.

"I'm ready to go," Dani said, coming out of the bedroom.

They left and Santana drove them, in Dani's car, to the ice skating rink. Dani felt herself getting nervous. She was nervous over a simple thing like ice skating, and she felt kind of stupid because of it. "Let's go!" Santana said excitedly. Dani bit her lip as she followed Santana out of the car and into the rink.

When she saw all the people on the ice, she bit her lip again. "You know, maybe you could skate, and I'll sit and eat pizza and watch."

"No way, Dani. You're not chickening out of this. You are going to skate with me," Santana insisted, dragging Dani towards the skate rental area.

"Santana," Dani whined.

"Dani," Santana returned in the same tone, as they reached the skate rental. They gave the guy their shoe size, Dani more by force, and then Santana slipped on her skates happily. Dani slid hers on slowly, really not interested in going onto the ice. "Seriously, come on, Dani. You told me you'd do this with me. Remember, it's my tradition!"

Dani huffed. "Fine."

Santana managed to get Dani to the ice, and then as soon as they were on it, Dani clutched the edge of the rink. "Let go, Dani. I'll teach you how to stay up."

"Santana if I let go of this, I'll be flat on my ass in seconds," Dani insisted, her knuckles already white from holding on so tightly.

"Dani, little kids are able to stand up on skates. I'll even hold your hand if it makes you feel better," Santana told her, looking at her pointedly.

Dani frowned, and let go with one of her hands, grabbing Santana's hand instead. She gripped it just as tightly as she had the railing, and Santana raised an eyebrow.

"Babe, you need to relax," Santana told her. She gently took Dani's other hand from the railing, and held her hands tight enough to keep her from falling. Dani had her knees locked and her eyes clenched shut.

"I'm going to fall."

"Maybe. But maybe not, if you just loosen up and stop freaking out," Santana countered.

They spent about ten minutes trying to get Dani to be able to just stand on her skates, and once she was, Santana had to show Dani how to move.

"It's really not that hard. Just move your feet like this. It pushes off, but it also keeps you from slipping. Give it a try," Santana suggested.

"Nope. I can't. Santana, I'll fall," Dani tried, sounding terrified as she barely kept herself standing upright.

"You won't. Come on," Santana insisted, taking Dani's hand. "Just try a little bit. Just like I showed you."

Dani took a deep breath and moved her feet slightly, the way Santana had showed her. She bit her lip as she moved forward a bit. Luckily, the ice rink had cleared of people a bit, so there was a little more space for Dani to move around.

"I-I guess this isn't too h-hard," Dani breathed out slowly, as she moved forward slowly. Granted she was still gripping Santana's hand rather tightly, but she was moving, which was good enough for her. "I guess it's... easier when y-you're here."

"You sound terrified out of your skin," Santana commented with a chuckle. Dani shot her a glare, but somehow still managed to stay up on her feet. As she began to move a little faster, she grinned.

"This is actually fun," she finally said, beaming at her girlfriend.

"I told you," Santana exclaimed happily.

Dani tried to pick up her speed a bit, but her right food slipped and she spun suddenly, gasping, and slammed into Santana's front, but they caught each other and kept themselves from falling down. Dani found herself giggling, and Santana leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss on her girlfriend's lips.

The loud music that had been playing through the speakers suddenly changed into a different song, and the lights dimmed and some red ones came on, giving the entire rink a romantic feel. Kids got off the rink and couples got on. Santana grinned at Dani, and took off, pulling Dani along with her, and getting a squeal from the blue-haired girl.

They started off slowly to match the tempo of the song.

Looking up from underneath,

Fractured moonlight on the sea,

Reflections still look the same to me,

As before I went under.

And it's peaceful in the deep,

Cathedral where you cannot breathe,

No need to pray,

No need to speak,

Now I am under.

Oh, and it's breaking over me,

A thousand miles down to the sea bed,

I found a place to rest my head.

As the next part played, Dani and Santana squeezed each other's hands, and Dani had to admit that this was fun and it wasn't even very scary. They picked up speed a bit, and the air going through Dani's hair felt amazing.

Never let me go, never let me go,

Never let me go, never let me go...

And the arms of the ocean!

Are carrying me!

And all this devotion!

Was rushing out of me!

And the crashes are heaven,

For a sinner like me!

But the arms of the ocean,

Delivered me.

Dani closed her eyes, finding that she could keep up with Santana even still. She loved this. "We're going to have to make this our tradition," she commented with a chuckle.

"Deal."

Though the pressure's hard to take,

It's the only way I can escape,

It seems a heavy choice to make,

Now I am under.

And it's breaking over me!

A thousand miles down to the sea bed,

I found a place to rest my head.

As Dani opened her eyes, she saw that the red lights had turned multicolored, and now flashed all over the rink in a beautiful assortment of lights. She found herself mesmerized by this moment.

Never let me go, never let me go,

Never let me go, never let me go...

And the arms of the ocean!

Are carrying me!

And all this devotion!

Was rushing out of me!

And the crashes are heaven,

For a sinner like me!

But the arms of the ocean,

Delivered me.

And it's over!

And I'm going under...

But I'm not giving up!

I'm just giving in...

Dani squeezed Santana's hand and flashed her a smile as the song got soft again, and they slowed down.

Whoa!

Slipping underneath!

Whoa!

So cold, but so sweet...

And the arms of the ocean...

So sweet and so cold...

And all this devotion...

I never knew went on...

And the crashes are heaven,

For a sinner released,

But the arms of the ocean,

Delivered me!

They sped up again as the song got faster and began to draw to a close.

Never let me go, never let me go!

Never let me go, never let me go!

Delivered me!

Never let me go, never let me go!

Never let me go, never let me go!

Never let me go, never let me go!

Delivered me!

Never let me go, never let me go!

Never let me go, never let me go!

Delivered me!

And it's over!

And I'm going under!

But I'm not giving up!

I'm just giving in...

The song finished with all of the high notes, and the "never let me go"s, and Santana didn't let go of Dani's hand the whole time. By the time the song was over, they stopped at gate off of the ice. Slipping off their skates, they decided to go get some pizza.

When they finished their pizza, they found that it was one in the afternoon. "Wow, time flies."

"Because you were having fun, even though you thought you wouldn't," Santana told her pointedly. Dani grinned.

"I know, I know. I was wrong, you were right," Dani admitted. "Don't let it get to your head."

"Too late," Santana joked.

They skated for a little more after that, and Dani found herself getting better and better as the time went by. This day was definitely on her list of best days ever. However, she had a sneaking suspicion that the following day would be able to top it. After all, by midnight the following day, she expected to be engaged to the love of her life. And she couldn't be more excited.

Song was Never Let Me Go by Florence And The Machine. It wasn't entirely relevant, but I am absolutely in love with it, so I had to use it.

Funzel I hope this chapter met your expectations :DDDD
