Tess wakes in Harvey's arms, she gently slips off of the bed while pulling on her PJ bottoms as she heads to make some coffee. She wanders into the main area of her apartment with sleep still in her eyes. As she makes the coffee, Tess is startled out of her skin by Nate's approach from behind.
Harvey is awake in an instant at the sound of Tess' voice and the breaking cup. He is in the living room in a second to find that Tess is not alone.
"Jesus Nate, I am going to put a freaking bell on you. What in the hell are you doing here?" Tess bats him away as she surveys the shattered cup on the floor.
Nate turns to see Harvey standing bare chested in his PJ bottoms. Nate does not say a word, he turns and looks at Tess with a look that she cannot quite place. "Nate, Harvey, Harvey, Nate." Tess does not realize the look that Nate is shooting Harvey as she cleans up the broken cup.
"What is he doing here?" Is the first question out of Nate's mouth. Nate's tone catches Tess a little off guard. She is used to the overprotective older brother routine. Heck, she has five of them who fit that bill. This time there is an edge to it that bothers Tess.
Nate instantly realizes how he sounds and backs it off a little. He knows Tess has blank spots and will not likely understand his tone. Harvey on the other hand should understand the tone completely.
Harvey walks into the bedroom to retrieve a shirt. He grabs his undershirt over the obvious poor choice of the FDNY t-shirt. There is no sense in throwing gasoline on a fire or a fireman.
As Harvey leaves for a moment, Tess hits her brother in the chest. "What the hell, Nate. He was invited... you were not. So what ever this is ... get over it." Her annoyance is quite clearly delivered.
Tess pours the coffee as Harvey returns to the living room. He knew to expect this only he did not quite expect this particular scenario to play out. The three of them stand at her counter in a bit of awkward silence as Tess starts the conversation.
"So you mind telling me what in the hell time you came over?" Tess pushes back at Nate wondering what he knows about her evening.
"Late.. really late." Nate looks up at Tess sheepishly since he has obviously caught her in the middle of something. He had no idea she wasn't alone. He kind of just assumed she was alone.
Harvey remains silent as the brother and sister briefly converse rather animatedly about what prompted Nate to come over. Tess is not quite buying his story. Harvey watches Tess intently. She has a tell when she knows she is being lied to. Tess bites the inside corner of her lip when she knows she is being lied to. Unfortunately, Harvey has seen that tell a lot lately. Harvey is surprised by Tess' reaction because what Nate is telling her is obviously bothering Tess more than it should.
Tess walks into her bedroom. In the moment of her absence Nate walks close to Harvey. "You hurt her, I will end you. Do you understand me." Harvey can appreciate the menacing tone of Nate's voice. He doesn't like it but he understands it.
Tess walks out in time to catch the tail end of Nate's statement. Tess turns around walking into her room again. She returns. "Trust me my brother, you are doing your fair share of it." Tess instantly and completely captures Nate's attention as something drops from inside her hand to dangle from her fingertips.
From her fingertips dangles the necklace that Nate instantly recognizes as the one Daphne always wears and has been looking frantically for. Daphne always wears it because Tess gave it to her. Nate cannot look away from the glint of gold dangling from Tess' fingers. He has no idea how Tess would have that necklace. Daphne never takes it off. The discussion essentially ends there much to Harvey's surprise. Harvey realizes something about that necklace shut Nate down cold in the conversation.
On that note, Nate decides that he is ill prepared for the discussion that involves where Tess may have found that necklace. "I have to head to work. I'll see you later Tessie. " Nate nods towards Harvey with a signal that he will be watching him.
After Nate makes his exit, Tess offers. "Sorry about that." She gives Harvey a kiss on the cheek. "Company was unexpected."
Harvey pulls Tess into a hug. "Remember, if I have to stand like the 300, I will." He kisses Tess on the forehead.
"So what is with the necklace? It kind of stopped your brother cold." Harvey takes a sip of his coffee. He is kind of feeling his way through this to see if Tess will open up plus he is actually curious.
Tess tops off her coffee offering more to Harvey. "Well, my very married brother is apparently sleeping with my best friend ... in my bed."
Ouch, is the first thought goes through Harvey's head since it is a topic that Harvey is very familiar with. "So that is how you found the necklace...Tess, I am sorry."
"No need Harvey, it is not your fight." Tess gives him a gentle wink over her coffee. Tess walks into her living room. "Join me Mr. Specter."
Tess takes a seat on the couch patting the space next to her. Harvey takes a seat next to her. "Have you talked to Daphne?"
Tess stops him. "Harvey, I am going to have a very very long conversation with my dear one. Beginning with why she sanitized by phone, email, facebook and twitter... then why the hell she is sleeping with my brother and it is not even my most eligible brother. If she were smart she would have gone for Frannie."
"You Tweet?" Harvey gives her a coy smile. "You don't?" Tess cuddles into Harvey's shoulder as she rolls her eyes. She is not even sure she has ever even logged into anything other than email.
"Harvey will you indulge me?" Tess has put her coffee cup on the table and is now carelessly running her fingertips up and down Harvey's leg lost in thought.
Harvey places his cup on the table. "Ok, I'll play."
"What is my favorite color?" She glances a side eye towards Harvey with a smirk.
"Orange... for your birthday... which is Halloween... you hate roses because they remind of you funerals... you love wild flowers." He turns towards her. "You love mac and cheese, jazz, edm... black tee shirts and jeans..." He kisses her on the cheek. "You are a goddess with Mustangs but you drive Chevys..." He runs his fingers over her lips. "Red lipstick, pearls, sunny days, High Tea at the Palm Court... Shall I go on." He kisses her again.
Tess kisses Harvey. "and you are a blank slate. You know my history Harvey... tell me ours. Tell me yours."
Harvey looks into Tess' eyes as he contemplates what he wants to say. He kisses her and holds her. "How about I show you." He brushes a stray hair from her face. "Have dinner with me tonight." He kisses her before she can answer. "Come on Tess, it's dinner not a proposal."
Tess wraps her arms around Harvey. "Me thinks I have heard that line before, Mr. Specter." Harvey pulls her close. "Because it is a good line."
