A/N: The picture I have in use is from dA by an artist lychi and the picture's name is just simply Zelda.

Also, I do NOT own the characters or places unless said otherwise. Nintendo has the rights. =P Honestly speaking, all I have is the idea for the story, few monsters, creatures and bit of changing the places. Oh, and couple of OCs here and there. ^^; I'm certain everyone can figure out which belongs to me and which doesn't. =)

Letters From Hyrule

Chapter 52: Promise

Dear Dark,

I know you've probably already got a letter like this...and to tell the truth, that has shocked me. You're such a nice person that knowing someone already has your heart is like ripping out mine. Though perhaps that is a good idea in the grand scheme of things...*shrugs* Oh well. Dark, I like you, and please note that if this person you have given your heart to, whoever they are, is mean to you, then they will be answering to me. I may not be able to be your lover, but being your bodyguard should work well enough.

My tome and army are sworn to your aid if ever you need them.

-Dusk

Dark had fetched the mail and went through the envelopes until already opened the one meant for him. He was still walking on the hallway towards their shared room while doing this. The dark Hylian just reached the door of his destination when he got to start read the short letter... And he stopped dead on his tracks.

The ruby eyed male had known for this kind of letters to come. He had already replied to one or two, at least. Still, what the text included got him to feel slight dread and he gulped at the given promise. Dark had never meant to harm anyone but he also knew he couldn't please everyone so this kind of situation would come up now and then.

"Hey Dark!" The chipper call startled the ruby eyed male. He turned around swiftly and spotted Haru, one of the guards and one of his first friends, coming over. Dark smiled a bit while relaxing slightly and nodded to the guy. Haru took a quick look at the mail the dark Hylian had in his hands and soon bit grinned. "Got a love letter there, eh?" He inquired mischievously.

Dark gulped and blushed while trying to keep the letter away from Haru. "Well, I'm not sure I could call it as such..." He almost mumbled while bit cursing at having so much in his arms since it fully prevented him from hiding the actual letter.

"Riiiight." Haru chuckled while clearly not accepting the given answer. He easily snatched the letter and moved away with a laugh while Dark tried to get the paper back.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing?!" The ruby eyed male half growled but thanks to the other mail, he wasn't able to take the letter back. Haru just chuckled while grinning and staying out of his friend's reach.

"Just checking the letter." The guard answered with a wide grin and read the letter through swiftly. His smile vanished quite quickly and he stopped moving when he had reached the end of the paper. "Wow..." Haru half mumbled. "Just... wow..." He whispered and raised his gaze up without being startled as Dark finally snatched the letter back.

"It wasn't for you to read." The black haired warrior half growled while turning his gaze off. He was both angry and hurt of the current situation. Eventually Dark sighed and raised his bit worried gaze back up into Haru since the guy just stayed silent. "Haru...?" He called carefully while having actually waited for some teasing instead of the unnerving quietness.

The guard took once a deep breath and let it out slowly after holding it in for a moment. "You've attracted the notion of quite an unique person." Haru eventually stated while still trying to calm down from what he had read. "My honest advice is that you won't let Dusk know if you end up into trouble with your girlfriend." He told while slowly starting to calm down.

"Yeah, well, I got a problem with that one." Dark replied with a nervous chuckle and scratching the back of his head. Haru frowned in confusion but the dark Hylian continued quite soon after taking a deep breath. "I got a ghost writer who's telling my story." The ruby eyed swordsman told but nearly immediately blushed and raised his hands in half surrender. "She's not the one who got my heart!" He almost shouted in defense while taking a step backwards.

Haru blinked first in surprise but soon he grinned and started to laugh. Dark frowned first before groaning and facepalming. "Oh, dear Goddesses, Dark! You're funny!" The guard laughed and shook his head. "I'm pretty sure it would've been well out already if your ghost writer was the one who you fell for." He continued with a grin and a wink. "I could keep on having fun day of pestering you about your love life but unfortunately I got duty down at the Market. See you around, Dark!" Haru said while fully wishing he could've stay and continue things. He still bit chuckled as he left and waved his goodbyes to Dark.

"See ya!" The dark Hylian half shouted after Haru but after that he sighed heavily and leaned back first against the closest wall. "Damn you, Haru..." He half mumbled before taking a deep breath and finally getting into the room he shared with Link. For once he was grateful of having the room to himself without worrying over the Hero coming in while he was working with the letter.

Dark locked the door and took the mail to the main table. From there he made his way to his side of the bed and sat down. Only then he remembered the weapons he still carried in his back. With bit of a heavy sigh, he got back up and went to take them off close to the closet. Once he returned to the bed he just flopped down to it onto his back and stared at the ceiling.

After having taken a moment to calm down, Dark sat back up and took out what he needed to write the reply. He thought for a while and re-read the received one. Eventually the dark Hylian took a deep breath and started to write.

Dear Dusk

I'm very sorry to have hurt you. I never mean for such to happen. I hope you can forgive me eventually. I hate to say this but I cannot control to whom my heart falls for. And the said person stole my heart long before I even thought about letting the world know of my life story. I hope you can understand this.

I am very grateful of your eagerness to come to my help. It means a lot to me. Yet, considering the army you would be controlling... I am not sure Hyrule is ready for such beings to be faced, even on their side. Forgive me for this but I would like to deal with my own love life the way I see fit. If heartache is to be part of it, then it shall be so. I wouldn't be living if I let others deal with my problems. These fights to come are mine to handle and no-one else's. Still, thank You for everything and I truly hope I haven't offended you.

With best regards

Dark

The dark Hylian sighed heavily after putting the pen down and checking his writing. He really hated it when he had to decline from given help. Dark did the two envelopes and sealed the letter in. After that he fetched his sword and shield before already latching them on. He picked the letter and checked the room before leaving it.

The ruby eyed swordsman walked through the corridors while having fallen into his thoughts. He simply nodded to everyone he passed but he kept his mouth shut. Currently Dark just didn't want to end up talking with others.

After having reached his destination and left the letter into the post office, he took once a deep breath and closed his eyes. The dark Hylian leaned his back against the wall and concentrated. Soon he felt the familiar tug which he had whenever he searched for Link. Letting that feeling guide him, he left to wander through the Market.

Soon enough he found the golden haired Hero. Dark smiled a bit and called out to him. Link stopped and turned around before already smiling at the sight of his brother. "Hey! I didn't expect you to come here." He said before already feeling like facepalming.

Dark chuckled a bit and shrugged. "I wasn't going to come but, you know, things change." He replied with a lopsided smile. The Hero nodded while feeling grateful of the younger dark Hylian ignoring the possibility of misunderstanding.

"I was just heading towards the construction site. You want to come along?" Link inquired while feeling like Dark could use some company. The ruby eyed male nodded and the duo started to walk down the road. They walked in silence while enjoying of the day and each other's company. The Hero knew better than to inquire about things.

"I answered to one letter today." Dark eventually said. Link simply nodded without pressing the matter further. He knew that his brother would talk if he felt like it. "It was one of those love letter kind of things." The dark Hylian continued after a moment's silence. The Hero still simply nodded. The ruby eyed male sighed and shrugged a bit. "Dusk pretty much promised to come deal things would my love end up hurting me." He concluded while leaving out the fact of a tomb and an army.

"You've gotten quite a huge fan base already, Dark." Link started calmly and shrugged a bit. "Since they can't have you, they want to make sure you'll be happy and safe." He continued and smiled a bit. "You should be happy of this. Usually people get jealous and end up coming with threats or already going with things without warning. Those who decide to accept things and be there for you if things go awry are the ones that matter the most. They won't try and get you to fall for them but instead help you through the hard times. I'm quite sure they'd also try to get you and your love back together if that's what's needed." The Hero explained carefully.

Dark stopped walking and just stared at Link. The golden haired male took few steps forward before also stopping and turning around to face the ruby eyed one. "Dark?" He called bit worriedly.

The dark Hylian blinked few times while thinking through what Link had just told him. Soon he relaxed and smiled a bit before nodding. "I'm fine. I think I just realized how lucky I am." Dark told and walked next to the Hero. Right after that he hugged the cerulean eyed one. "Thank You, Link." He half whispered and swiftly kissed the side of Link's head. "So, what's the way to the construction place?" The black haired swordsman inquired after letting go and walking few steps backwards while grinning.

Link, after calming down from the unexpected show of affection, smiled and chuckled a bit. "I'll show the way, no worries." He told with a small grin and shake of his head. For a moment he thought about suggesting for a race but decided against it. It wouldn't have been fair one when Dark had no idea of which way to go. "Come on then, bro." Link said and placed his arm around the other one's shoulders. "This'll be great day." He told while already planning of taking Dark down to a new restaurant and showing him few of the newly created areas at the Market.

A/N: Letters From Hyrule will once again be once a week updated, hopefully. So, if you wish to send a letter to the duo or any of the other characters of Hyrule, you're free to do so. Here's few guidelines for doing a letter:

- Before sending what You've written, please, read it through. Just in case if there's some words missing.

- Dots. I would SERIOUSLY appreciate it if You could actually put a dot after a sentence. Helps TREMENDOUSLY to read it. It's okay if You're not using capitalized letters at the start of a sentence and within names but I would pretty much RECOMMEND the dots into the end of the sentence.

- Paragraphs. Whenever You change the topic in Your letter press that button called Enter. Again, it helps to read the letter and find a way to reply to it.

- NO harmful things. I will NOT accept letters that are having mean and cruel words NOR harmful presents... Though, there IS an exception. I WILL send such thigngs into Evil Realm. At first I had thought to deny it from there too but then I came up with that one story with the send magic bomb and, well, yeah... But such things will NOT be send to Dark, Link, Zelda or others who are NOT thorough bad guys. Thank You for Your understanding.

All of these little things also helps YOU to give a better picture of You to the character You send the letter.

As a totally different thing, I'm trying to get 100 uploads done during this year (2017). Some will be here and some will be at DeviantArt. The list of these 100 stories and the links to them will be at DeviantArt so check that one out. Current counting is 82 uploads left. Oh, and by upload I mean for poems, one shots and chaptered stories where each chapter is counted as one of the uploads. I hope I will get this done.
