Chapter 54

Santana follows Quinn into the guest bedroom, glad to find Olivia sitting on the bed writing on a notepad that Puck must have given her. The girl looks up at her parents warily, a small smile pulling at her lips when she notices their conjoined hands. She closes the notepad as Quinn sits down on the bed, Santana copying her.

"We have a few things that we need to talk to you about" Quinn starts, her hazel eyes serious as she makes eye contact with their daughter. "Firstly, your Mami and I are so sorry that this has been so hard on you, we were doing our best to make sure that you were happy and we realise now that you weren't. No matter what happens between us, we still love you and Caleb more than anything in the world" Quinn states sincerely, reaching out to cup Olivia's face in her hand. "We worked a whole lot of things out today and we're all gonna go to grandma and grandpa's with Mami tonight and we're gonna stay there" she explains and despite her lingering anger at Olivia's behaviour, she can't keep the grin from her gave when she sees the girl's eyes light up.

"And Mami is going to move back home?" she asks hopefully, looking back and forth between the women.

"Yes, I will be and there's gonna be a few changes" Santana says firmly, "There's not going to be any more of this behaviour, your Mom and I are a team and we are not going to put up with you playing us off against one another, If one of us say no to something then you can't go running to the other one to try and get an answer you like. You need to be respectful of both of us and the tantrums need to stop, you're eleven years old now and you are far too old to be having tantrums. Do you understand me Olivia?"

"Yes Mami" Olivia nods.

"Good. As for your recent behaviour...your Mom and I have discussed it and you are grounded for the next three weeks, no going out to play with your friends, no internet and definitely no cell phone" Santana explains firmly. "We will, however, make sure you have a chance to hang out with Owen properly before we go home and Christmas day will be normal but apart from that you will be with one of us at all times and in bed by no later than eight. I sincerely hope you can learn your lesson from this because if you don't then you will find yourself across my knees" the latina adds sternly, studying her wide eyed daughter carefully. "Are you finished with your letter?" she asks in a gentler tone.

"Not yet" Olivia murmurs, "I need more time" she adds softly.

"Okay baby, why don't you work on it some more while we pack everything up and then you can show us it once we're at grandma and grandpa's, does that sound alright?" Quinn asks, Olivia nodding without making eye contact with her. "Once you're done, I want you to stay up here until we leave. It's not because we don't want to spend time with you, it's only because you're being punished" the blonde woman adds, kissing Olivia's forehead before standing up and heading for the door.

"Mami, once it's finished..can you read it to make sure it's okay?" the girl asks, only loud enough for Santana to hear and the latina nods.

"Of course, pretty girl"

Dear Mom,

I'm sorry that I act like I love Mami more than I love you. I love both of you the same amount and even though I don't show it I think you are a really good Mom. Even before you were my mom I always thought you were, not because I was stupid and didn't know you were my sister but because you always acted like a Mom. You always read me a bedtime story and you always made me go to bed early if I did something I wasn't supposed to. I remember the first time I met Mami and I told her she was pretty and Mami said that I was pretty too. I always wanted you and Mami to be my real family because you both always said that love made a family and not blood.

When you and Mami got married I was so happy because it meant we were always going to be a family. That's why I got scared when Mami moved out, I thought we wouldn't be a family anymore. I didn't act mean because I was mad at you. I did it because I knew Mami would come to see us if I was in trouble and I wanted you and her to be together. Everyone says that you and Mami are going to be together forever and I want that to happen too.

I promise to do better and to listen to you and Mami and to be a good big sister. You always say not to make promises that I can't keep so I will only promise to try very hard to not get angry a lot. I'm sorry that I made you sad. I didn't want to do that because when you are sad then I'm sad too. I love you lots.

Love, from Olivia.

Santana smiles as she folds Olivia's letter back in half, leaning forward and kissing her daughter's cheek while handing the letter back to her and then placing her hands either side of Olivia's legs as the child sits on the kitchen counter.

"I think your Mom is going to really appreciate that, pretty girl. You did a really good job on it and I'm very proud of you for being so mature about it" the latina states warmly. "Did you really only misbehave so that I would come over?" she asks softly.

"I thought if you were home a lot then you and Mommy would love each other again, it's stupid" Olivia grumbles, picking at a loose thread on her pajama bottoms.

"No, it's not stupid baby. You act a little silly at times but you're not stupid. Me and your Mom never stopped loving each other, I promise you. We were just being mad at each other and stubborn but we definitely still loved each other, now more than ever" Santana tells her sincerely. "And we love you and Caleb so much!"

"I love you too Mami" Olivia smiles leaning forward and resting her head on the latina's shoulders, tanned arms automatically wrapping around the much smaller girl. Quinn smiles as she walks into the kitchen, catching Olivia's eye and sighing softly when the girl shamefully looks away.

"I'll leave you to it" Santana murmurs, tenderly kissing Olivia's temple before pulling back from the embrace, giving both of her blonde's a reassuring smile as she leaves the kitchen. Olivia smiles nervously as Quinn moves to stand in Santana's vacated spot and she shyly hands the letter over to her mother, her chocolate brown eyes wide and unsure. Quinn places a warm hand on her daughter's knee as she uses her other hand to hold the piece of paper up. Her gaze starts to blur as she reads exactly what has been in her child's head, feeling a burst of reassurance from reading the real reason for Olivia's behaviour, her heart swelling at the honesty in Olivia's words. She folds the letter in half once she's finished and slips it into the back pocket of her jeans rather than handing it back to Olivia.

"Thank you sweetheart" Quinn breathes, pulling the eleven year old into a bone crushing hug.

"I'm really sorry Mommy" Olivia replies in a small voice, her mother tightening her arms around her and placing a gentle kiss into her hair.

"It's okay baby girl, we're good, okay?" Quinn murmurs, feeling Olivia nod against her. "Talk to us when you're upset or confused about things, promise me you will" she adds quietly.

"I promise" the girl whispers into the soft skin of the older blonde's neck, taking comfort in her Mom's scent and feel. "I'm really glad you and Mami are okay" she adds.

"Me too...me too"

He glances at his parents warily, watching their gleaming eyes as they wait in anticipation for him to do something, standing on unsteady, wobbily legs. Olivia crouches down a few metres away from him and holds her arms out.

"Come on Caleb, walk to Olivia" Quinn urges excitedly, aiming her iphone in his direction, already recording him just in case he does it too quickly. "Can you do it for us? Can you walk to Olivia?" she asks animatedly, sighing when Caleb realises exactly what he's doing and suddenly sitting down heavily on his diaper clad behind.

"He's doing it on purpose" Olivia claims sulkily, standing back up and moving to sit next to Carlos again.

"He's just not ready yet princesa, give him time. There's no rush and believe me, once he starts walking, he'll be running around so much and getting into everything all the time and you will wish he hadn't started" Carlos states with a chuckle. "Your Mami would never stop running, I lost count of the amount of times she tried to run out into the backyard in only her diaper because she was too excited about running to think of anything else" he adds with a grin, Olivia giggling at the flustered looking latina.

"She never liked to wear clothes" Maria muses to a thoroughly entertained Olivia.

"Alright, thank you Mami" Santana mutters, scooping Caleb into her arms and slumping down onto the armchair, placing him on her knee as she feels her cell phone vibrate. Digging into her pocket, she holds her cell away from her son's desperate hands and reads the text from Quinn. 'Guess not much has changed ;)' Santana smirks as she slides her phone back into her pocket, shooting her wife a cocky wink while internally panicking about the flirty text. They had only sorted things out the day before after being apart for weeks and barely talking for ages before that, is Quinn trying to tell her she wants to sleep with her? Something they haven't done for months because of the tense atmosphere between them. She's distracted by Caleb pulling her cell phone out of her pocket and throwing it onto the floor and she gently swats the back of his hand, "No Caleb" Santana states firmly, the toddler staring back at her with wide watery eyes and she instantly feels guilty, despite the fact the swat barely passed as a tickle.

"Someone clearly needs a nap" Quinn states, getting up and walking across to her wife and son, holding her arms out for the disgruntled toddler. The two women make eye contact as Santana hands Caleb to Quinn, hazel eyes silently telling the latina not to feel guilty and she smiles gratefully at her wife. "Meet me up there?" the blonde asks quietly.

"Sure" Santana murmurs, watching as her wife and son leave the room, Caleb watching his mami from over Quinn's shoulder, looking at her as though she just kicked a puppy. The latina waits for a few minutes, smiling as she watches her parents and her daughter talk and laugh with each other, silently going after Quinn while signalling to her father that she will be a few minutes. "Hey" she whispers as she reaches the top of the staircase, stopping outside the door of her childhood bedroom and waiting for her wife to join her.

"Hey yourself" Quinn smiles.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that" Santana mutters.

"Stop being so hard on yourself San, you barely touched him, it got the message across" the blonde replies softly.

"I know, I should have discussed it with you first, you know...using physical discipline" the latina tells her.

"I didn't realise we would need to discuss it" Quinn shrugs, "I mean, we spank Olivia and I just assumed we'd raise Caleb the same way. Obviously it's going to be little taps here and there until he's older but he'll be punished the same way as Olivia" she explains and Santana nods, relieved. "Try not to worry so much, everything's good...we're good" she smiles. The latina nods and leans forward to passionately kiss her wife, her arms wrapping around the blonde's waist. Quinn grins at her wife as they pull apart, "Best Christmas present ever"
