Hi everyone! Finally, I get to write the first time chapter! As anyone who knows me at all knows, I love this episode so much. West Side Story is my favorite musical (and that's saying something, seeing as I typically don't like musicals) and of course there was the Finchel sex! I'd been waiting so long for Finchel sex and we finally got it! Anyway, thanks for your support on the last chapter, enjoy this one, and review if you want me to keep going!

Chapter 52: The First Time

Finn and Rachel lay on Rachel's double bed, kissing each other. Rachel's dads weren't home tonight, and they'd ordered takeout and watched a movie earlier. Now, they were lying together on her bed, making out. For some reason, she felt like kissing him deeper tonight, and he seemed to like it.

Rachel moved her hands up Finn's chest as she felt his hand move on to her breast and then down her chest, then towards her skirt. Then, Finn suddenly stopped.

"What's going on?" Rachel asked.

"I'm sorry," Finn whispered. "I... I'd forgotten."

"Forgotten what?" Rachel asked.

"I know you don't like to be touched there," Finn admitted.

Rachel paused for a moment. In the old days that would have bothered her. But she had liked how it felt. She liked it when Finn touched her. And maybe - just maybe - they were ready to take that step... "Finn..."

"I'm really sorry, Rach," Finn said. "I should get going."

"Don't go," Rachel said.

"I have a science test tomorrow," Finn said. "I need to go."

"Can we talk?" Finn asked.

"We'll talk tomorrow," Finn told Rachel. He kissed her cheek and then walked out of the room.

x

Finn couldn't help but be mad at himself for trying to touch Rachel in a place where she probably didn't want to be touched. Last year Rachel had told him she didn't want to have sex until she'd won a Tony. After all the difficulties in their relationship this year, why would that change?

As Finn arrived home, he saw Kurt and Blaine sitting on the couch, watching a movie. He wished he could talk to one of them about what had happened, but he hadn't been very nice to Blaine at school, and ever since Rachel entered the election, Kurt had refused to recognize that she existed.

"Everything go okay with Rachel, sweetie?" Carole asked.

"Yeah, why wouldn't it?" Finn asked. As much as he loved his mom, he didn't feel like he could talk to her about sex.

"You seem distressed," Carole pointed out.

"I'm fine, Mom," Finn said. "I just have a test tomorrow."

"Okay, honey," Carole said. "I'm down here if you need me."

Finn went back upstairs to his bedroom. He wasn't lying to Rachel and his mom. He did have a test tomorrow. After some time studying, he heard a knock on his door. "Come in!"

Burt came in. "Hey, Finn. I was just at a press conference for congress, and your mom told me that you and Rachel are having some troubles. She thinks you need another man to talk to."

"What made my mom think that?" Finn asked. He and Rachel weren't having troubles. Well, not breaking up type troubles.

"Your mom knows you, Finn," Burt said. "She just thinks you weren't comfortable telling her what was going on."

It was at times like this that Finn really missed his dad. He knew this was the type of thing a father and a son would talk about together. Burt was the closest to a dad he had, so maybe he could help. "Well, I'm not mad at Rachel or anything, but tonight when I was at her house... I touched her..."

"Where did you touch her?" Burt asked.

"It was almost third base," Finn admitted. "I didn't know if she was ready and I felt really bad because I wanted her to be comfortable."

"Did she seem upset?" Burt asked.

"Well, not really," Finn admitted. "It's just - I love her, and it's been a few years. I love her and she loves me and I think we're ready. I've been ready for a few weeks now and been fantasizing about it, but..."

"For it?" Burt asked.

"Yeah," Finn said. "I'm just afraid to tell her."

"Finn, the best thing you can do is tell her you're ready when she is," Burt told Finn. "Don't sound like you're pressuring her, but let her know that you're ready. She might be, she might not be. What if she's not?"

"I still love her," Finn said. "If she's not ready, that's fine."

"Then you have nothing to worry about," Burt told Finn. "If she's ready, great, and if she's not, you'll still have a great girl to be with."

x

Rachel hoped she could follow up on her conversation with Finn, but since the musical was so soon, she and Blaine were going to practice some of their songs with the directors during their lunch hour. Rachel had to admit, if she couldn't have Finn as her Tony, she was glad that it was Blaine. He was nice to her and easy to get along with, and their voices sounded great together. Finn also joked that he didn't have to worry about Blaine getting into Rachel.

"Great, you're both here," Artie said when Rachel arrived. "Opening night's coming up, let's hear Tonight."

Rachel smiled to herself. Tonight was one of her favorite songs in West Side Story, and she remembered how upset she'd been her first year in glee when Mr. Schue didn't give it to her. However, she and Finn had done it on their own time. Rachel began the song, excited to sing it with the group tonight.

Rachel: Tonight, tonight
It all began tonight
I saw you and the world went away
Tonight, tonight
There's only you tonight
What you are, what you do, what you say
Blaine: Today, all day I had the feeling
A miracle would happen
I know now I was right
Blaine and Rachel: For here you are
And what was just a world is a star
Tonight
Tonight, tonight
The world is full of light
With suns and moons all over the place
Tonight, tonight
The world is wild and bright
Going mad
Shooting sparks into space
Today, the world was just an address
A place for me to live in
No better than all right
But here you are
And what was just a world is a star
Tonight

At the end of the song, Rachel noticed Coach Beiste tearing up. "Are you going to cry every time we sing?" Blaine asked.

"I'm such a girl," Coach Beiste said.

"My only note is more teeth," Miss Pillsbury commented.

Artie looked a bit discouraged. "Can I be honest? This song is about sexual awakening, as is the entire musical. You two lack passion. Have either of you two actually...?"

This wasn't coming at the right time. Especially after what happened with her and Finn last night. Now really wasn't the right time, when she was beginning to consider it, to talk about her sex life with two boys and two unrelated adults.

Miss Pillsbury jumped up. "Wow, okay. I have to go. Because I have..."

Coach Beiste began to leave, too. "Those footballs aren't going to inflate themselves. I'm out of here."

Artie looked at Rachel and Blaine. "Look, I remember my first time with Brittany. The excitement, the way it made me feel like a man... even though she called me the wrong name like four times, during and after. What was it like for you guys?"

Rachel didn't know what to say. "Um..."

"I'm waiting for the right time," Blaine said.

Rachel was glad Blaine had known what to say. "Yeah, me, too. I'm so glad that you're my Tony."

"Look, as your friend I support your strange aversion to fun. But as your director, I'm concerned," Artie said.

"I'm sorry, what do you mean?" Rachel asked.

"Well, how do you expect to convey the human perience to an audience when you haven't even opened yourself up to one of humanity's most basic and primal ones?" Artie asked.

Rachel paused to think. She thought she'd been doing well, but this was another sign pointing in the direction that maybe it was time. Finn seemed ready, and she was thinking about how it might be time.

x

"Let me help you with that."

Rachel smiled up at Finn. She was hanging up campaign posters before school the next day. She hadn't gotten to see him the previous night because he had an extra long football practice and she had an extra rehearsal. Scanning the hall, she pointed. "Um... one over there. So, you, um... you still haven't told me who you're ving for yet."

Finn paused. "Well, I haven't decided. Kurt's my brother. It's kind of hard to vote against your brother."

Rachel leaned in to kiss Finn. "Well, I mean, you can't do this with your brother."

Finn giggled. "Not unless you live in Kentucky. What's gotten into you?"

"Nothing," Rachel admitted, trying to hint that she was ready. "It's just the confidence of success. I mean, I sold out the April Rhodes Auditorium for three shows, Jacob Ben Israel's poll have me in tied for first place in the presidential race, and I have the hottest guy in school. I hope that my radiance isn't too much for you."

Finn smirked. "It won't be after Friday night."

"What's Friday night?" Rachel asked. She knew there was a show then, and that there was a football game...

"That is the day that the recruiter from Ohio State is coming," Finn told Rachel. "They're looking for a new quarterback."

Rachel felt so happy for Finn. "Really? That's amazing!"

"Yeah, I know. You're not pissed?" Finn asked.

Rachel knew that even if they went to college in separate cities, nothing could stop them. "No. No, of course not. It's not like NYADA has a football team. It's really happening. You know, our dreams are coming true, and we're growing up."

"I know," Finn said. "And... hey, I was thinking. Um, Burt and my mom are out canvassing all week and I have the house to myself. Maybe you could come over."

"To your house?" Rachel asked. Finn nodded. "I'll be there at six," Rachel said, giving Finn a seductive look.

x

Finn had been thinking a lot about what Burt had said to him.

By the look on Rachel's face, he knew that she wanted to do some things tonight after football practice. That was the thing about Finn and Rachel. They knew each other so well, they could sometimes tell what the other one was thinking just by looking at them. When Finn got to football practice, he leaned over to Puck. "Hey, dude, I got a question for you."

"I thought they were my sneakers," Puck said.

Finn didn't know what Puck was talking about. "What? Look, I figured since you have some more experience than I do..." he lowered his voice, "you could recommend a brand of condoms."

Puck looked shocked. "Are you cheating on Rachel, dude? Because if you are, that is not cool. And that's coming from me."

"No. I want to use them with Rachel," Finn confirmed.

"Oh. I'm happy for you, dude, and her. I always thought it would be me, but secretly hoped it'd be you. As for the condoms, no idea... never used them. It's worked out for me about 99% of the time," Puck said.

Finn knew Puck couldn't be help. He might as well just go to the pharmacy after practice and pick up a pair. Then Coach Beiste interrupted Finn's thoughts. "Gather round! You all know Cooter Menkins. Best eye for talent in the country if you ask me."

"Which is why I spend so much time with you, Coach," Mr. Menkins said. "All right, this Friday night I will be in the stands watching you play. And I'm not looking for boys to play for the Buckeyes. I'm looking for men."

Finn now knew he had to play his best. He could already tell this guy was serious.

x

Rachel rang Finn's doorbell. She and Finn always enjoyed having the houses to themselves, and she wanted to tell him that she was ready. It had been on her mind, and she knew he wanted to, and Artie had basically told her she needed to be sexually awaken. Finn came to the door, wearing a collared shirt and a nice pair of pants. "Hey."

"Hey," Rachel said. "Is dinner ready?"

"It sure is," Finn said. He took Rachel's hand and led her to the table. "How was rehearsal?"

"It was great," Rachel said. She took a seat at the table, admiring the candlelight meal Finn had set up. "How was football?"

"The recruiter met us today," Finn said.

"How did it go?" Rachel asked, beginning to eat.

"Well, he told us about what a great team he wants, but he said Coach Beiste is the best coach around, so that's something," Finn said. "He seemed to be watching me during the plays."

"I'm so proud of you," Rachel said. "You'll get that scholarship, I know it."

"What about us?" Finn asked.

Rachel didn't like the idea of being in other cities, but she'd always wanted to go to New York, and she couldn't take this opportunity away from him. "We'll talk on the phone every day and visit as often as we can."

"It all sounds so simple, but it's going to be so big and scary," Finn admitted.

"You can do anything," Rachel said.

"I just wish things could be like they are now," Finn admitted. "You and me, just living without cares in the world."

"Me too," Rachel said. As she finished her meal, she tried to lighten the mood. "That was amazing. I've never had meat substitute before that tastes that much like real meat."

"Of course. Because you're a vegan, which I remember because we know each other so well. More sparking cider?" Finn asked.

"Mm-hmm. Thank you. Should we make a toast?" Rachel asked.

Finn poured sparkling cider into both glasses. "Yeah."

"All right. To four full months of no fighting or threats of us breaking up. Nothing but love, love, love." Rachel clinked her glass against Finn's.

Finn leaned in to kiss Rachel. "Cheers. Oh, should I go make dessert? I've got pound cake. It's Sara Lee."

"Oh, actually I thought maybe we could just go snuggle by the fire first," Rachel said, giving Finn a look to tell him that she thought it was time.

Finn's look told Rachel that he also thought it was time. "Okay."

Finn and Rachel went to the fire place and lay next to it, kissing a few times before Finn whispered in Rachel's ear. "I brought protection."

"Me, too. Every modern girl comes prepared," Rachel assured Finn.

After they moved their hands down each other's bodies, Finn pulled apart. "Wait, wait. Before we do this, I need to know, why now? The last time we talked about this, you said you wanted to wait until you won a Tony."

"Or any other major award," Rachel said, thinking about her past views. "Emmy, Golden Globe. People's Choice would have gotten you to third base. But I don't know what changed. I mean, even the thought of going to New York a virgin felt silly to me. But when and who's gonna feel more right than you and now? And I love you."

After another kiss, Finn pulled apart. "I just want to make sure this is special enough for you. I've been saving up for a hotel for us. Someplace nice like a Marriot or something. If we wait a couple of weeks, I could probably..."

It would be good anytime, but what if Artie was right about her performance? "No, I can't wait a couple weeks. I have to get this done before opening night."

Finn looked upset. "Get this done?"

Rachel knew she shouldn't have brought that up. "I can't play a girl who has a sexual awakening if I'm not woken up myself."

"So you're doing this so you can act better?" Finn asked.

Rachel tried to explain things. "No! No! I'm doing this because I love you and so that I can act better. But that's my business, okay? It has nothing to do with you, so..." Finn started to leave. "Where are you going? No, no, I'm-I'm ready. Please come back."

Finn turned around. "I just need a minute. I'm gonna make dessert."

Rachel felt horrible. Why had she said that? Why had she listened to Artie? Finn came back, though the mood of the night was ruined. "Dessert's ready."

"Are you sure you still want me here?" Rachel asked.

"Why wouldn't I?" Finn asked.

"Because of what just happened," Rachel said. "Finn, I feel awful."

"Don't," Finn said. "Let's just not do it right now."

"Okay," Rachel said. This was all her fault. She'd wanted to do it, but said the wrong thing. There was no point in arguing.

"We've had lots of nice nights together without it, this is just another," Finn said. But they both knew it wasn't just another.

x

Rachel couldn't stop thinking about what had happened when she was driving home. She wished she could talk to someone, but who? She didn't feel comfortable talking about boys with her dads. Things were still awkward between her and Shelby. Miss Pillsbury had been uncomfortable when Rachel had gone to her before. The closest things she had to female friends were the other girls she'd been in glee with. Mercedes probably wanted Rachel's head on a silver platter, but maybe the others could help her out. When Rachel got home, she sent texts to Quinn, Santana, Brittany and Tina and met them in an empty classroom after school the next day. "This emergency meeting is now in session," Rachel told the girls once they were all there. "Now I realize that we are a house divided, but I need the advice of my girls. The last time I called a meeting like thiwas during our Madonna lesson, and all of you were wildly unhelpful. But it's been two years now, and we've all grown up, so I'm optimistic. Finn and I were... almost intimate."

"Almost? What happened?" Tina asked.

Rachel felt slightly embarrassed telling the girls the story. "He ran out. I just... I wanted my performance of Maria to be as realistic as possible and when he found out that that's why I was doing it, he got really, really hurt."

"Of course he was hurt," Tina said.

"Yeah, that's really bad, Rachel," Brittany added.

"I know," Rachel admitted. "I know. I feel terrible and now I realize that I was just doing it for all the wrong reasons."

"Do you want my advice? Just wait," Quinn said. "Look what happened to me."

"You could've used protection," Tina told Quinn.

"I'm not just talking about getting pregnant, I'm talking about losing something that you can never get back," Quinn continued. "It changes you. It makes everything more complicated."

"I also think that you should wait," Santana said. "Speaking from experience, Finn is terrible in bed."

Rachel hated when Santana insulted Finn. "Santana, that is not cool," Tina said.

"Oh, what? If Rachel wants my sloppy seconds, she should at least know the truth. Look, it was like being smothered by a sweaty, out-of-breath sack of potatoes that someone soaked in body spray," Santana rambled.

Before Rachel had a chance to say anything, Brittany spoke. "I lost my virginity at cheerleading camp. He just climbed into my tent. Alien invasion."

Maybe now wasn't the time. "Okay, well, then I guess it's settled. Obviously, things are heating up between Finn and I. But I think we should wait," Rachel conceded.

"Losing my virginity was a great experience for me because I was with someone I love," Tina said. "It happened this summer. Mike and I had talked about it for awhile, because we knew that the first time was gonna be something we'd want to remember forever. And when that moment came... we just knew. It was right. It wasn't rushed. It was amazing. He's my first love. And I'll always look back at that moment as absolutely perfect... no regrets."

"You know, those are the thoughts I've been having about Finn lately," Rachel told Tina.

"Then why didn't you tell us that at the beginning?" Tina asked.

"Because then Artie said something about not giving a good performance and that made me feel pressured, but I've been thinking about it for a while," Rachel said.

"You love Finn, don't you?" Brittany asked.

"Of course," Rachel said. "I'm just worried he won't want to after what happened the other night."

"Well, maybe you should let him be the one to make the move," Tina said. "But if you've been feeling like the right time is coming, then it probably is."

x

That Friday was opening night of the musical and also the game that the OSU recruiter was coming to. Rachel decided to go to the game, even though she'd have to leave early. Before the game, she went up to Finn. "Hi."

Finn smiled. "Hey." There had been tension the past few days, and they were still trying to find a good time to talk about what had happened, but Rachel had to be there for Finn tonight.

"I'm really sorry," Rachel said. "You don't have to come see me tonight."

"I want to," Finn said. "Like you said, we've had lots of fun even without sex."

"I know," Rachel admitted. "I feel horrible."

"You don't have to," Finn said.

"Nervous about tonight?" Rachel asked.

"Yeah," Finn admitted.

"I wish I could stay for the whole game," Rachel said. Since tonight was opening night, she'd have to get there early.

"I'll get there as soon as I can," Finn said. "And even if I can't see the whole thing tonight, I'll come to another show."

Rachel leaned in and kissed Finn. "Good luck tonight."

x

Rachel wished she could have stayed for Finn's full game, but she did have to leave early. He had been playing well, and the recruiter had his eyes on the game. As Rachel watched the show with Blaine, she had to admit, the America performance was pretty amazing.

Santana: Puerto Rico
My heart's devotion
Let it sink back in the ocean (Sharks: Hahaha)
Always the hurricanes blowing
Always the population growing (Sharks: Hahaha)
And the money owing (Sharks: Hahaha)

Blaine turned to Rachel at the end of the performance. "How are we, as virgins, supposed to follow that?"

Rachel knew what they had to do. "Tony and Maria were soul mates, okay? Against all odds, they found each other. I know what that's like. And you do, too. So we just have to play that, okay? We, as actors, have to tap into that. Okay?"

"Okay," Blaine said.

A few songs later was the song that Rachel and Finn had used to try out for the musical together. Although Rachel was singing it with Blaine tonight, she thought of Finn as they performed, and hoped that tonight went well for him.

Blaine: Make of our hands one hand
Make of our hearts one heart
Make of our vows one last vow
Only death will part us now
Rachel: Make of our lives one life
Day after day, one life
Blaine and Rachel: Now it begins, now we start
One hand, one heart
Even death won't part us now

x

As Finn sat in the auditorium watching the play, he couldn't shake the disappointment of tonight's game. Yes, he'd played well. But Cooter hadn't been interested in him. Finn didn't even shower after the game. He'd gone straight to wait in the locker room, only to find Cooter talking with Shane. From what he'd seen, it looked like Shane had been offered the scholarship on the spot. Cooter didn't even look at Finn as he began to leave, so Finn had decided to try to get his attention. "So, you're going after Shane?"

Cooter had just looked thrilled. "The kid's a monster," he'd told Finn. "Look kid, just because your football career ends in high school doesn't mean your life was." With that, Cooter had left to talk to Coach Beiste.

Finn had cried as he showered and changed into clothes for the show. He wanted so badly to have Rachel with him to help him feel better, but he couldn't ruin her big night. He had to admit, he was enjoying the show, and seeing Rachel do so well made him feel a little better. As Rachel sang a song about loving the one you love, he couldn't help but be reminded of him and Rachel.

Rachel: I have a love, and it's all that I have.
Right or wrong, what else can I do?
I love him; I'm his,
And everything he is
I am, too.
I have a love, and it's all that I need,
Right or wrong, and he needs me, too.
I love him, we're one;
There's nothing to be done,
Not a thing I can do
But hold him and hold him forever
Be with him now, tomorrow
And all of my life
Rachel and Santana: When love comes so strong
There is no right or wrong
Your love is your life

That song could have been about him and Rachel. Finn wanted to make sure everyone in the audience tonight knew the girl playing Maria was his girlfriend.

x

When the show was over and Rachel was changing into her regular clothes, she heard a knock on the door. She looked up and saw Shelby. "Hi!" Rachel said.

"Hi Rachel," Shelby said. "You were amazing."

"Thank you," Rachel said. "I'm glad you could come."

"Of course I came," Shelby said. "I wasn't going to miss my daughter playing Maria." She handed Rachel a bouquet of flowers.

"Thank you so much," Rachel said. "I didn't expect you to come, not after how rude I was."

"I understand why you were upset," Shelby said. "Part of the reason why I took this job was to get to spend more time with you and get to know you again. You don't have to consider me your mother if you don't want to, just a mentor or a friend if you want."

Rachel had to smile. "Thank you. Thank you so much for being here. It really means a lot to me."

"You were wonderful!" Rachel heard her dads say. She hugged both her dads as they handed her flowers.

"These are from us," Hiram said, handing Rachel one bouquet.

"And these are from Finn," LeRoy added, handing more flowers to Rachel. "He said he wasn't feeling well and had to get home, so he told us to give them to you."

"Thank you," Rachel said, looking at the three bouquets of flowers. "Dad, Daddy, you remember Shelby, right?"

"Of course," Hiram said.

"She helped me pick out my audition song," Rachel said.

"Well, we did choose you partly for your talent," LeRoy told Shelby.

"You two have an amazing young woman," Shelby told Rachel's dads.

x

After the show, Finn began feeling down again. It was a big night for everyone, and he didn't want to ruin it for them, so he'd just given his flowers to Rachel to her dads and gone home. Burt and his mom had left for a meet and greet, and Kurt had gone to Blaine's, so he had the house to himself, which was probably for the better.

Then Finn heard a knock on the door. He went to the door and saw Rachel. "Hi. I got your flowers. They were beautiful," Rachel said softly.

"You were really good," Finn told Rachel.

"Can I come in?" Rachel asked.

Finn opened the door. "Yeah."

Rachel came in. "Where is everybody?"

"Kurt's out with Blaine, and Burt and Carole left for Toledo right after the show. They got some kind of meet-and-greet in the morning, so... spending the night," Finn explained.

"Why didn't you stay for the after party?" Rachel asked. "I mean, I know that you're still mad at me about the other night..."

Finn might as well tell Rachel. "He didn't like me."

Rachel looked confused. "What? Who?"

Finn felt tears come to his eyes. "The recruiter. He watched the game and then I waited like an idiot for 20 minutes while he talked to Shane. I didn't even shower or change out of my uniform, because I was afraid I'd miss him."

"Wait... I don't, I don't understand what any of this means," Rachel admitted.

Finn finally began crying. "It means I suck! It means I'm gonna be stuck here forever. Cooter's not gonna recruit me! He said I... I'd reached my ceiling."

"There are other colleges," Rachel tried to comfort Finn.

"Like there are other schools for you besides NYADA?" Finn asked, breaking down. "I'm not good enough! I'm not a good enough quarterback to get a scholarship! I'm not a good enough singer to get into NYADA! It's all over for me!"

Rachel took Finn's hands. "Stop it! Finn, look at me. Your dreams are not dead, okay? You've just grown out of them. You have to find new ones now."

"I don't know how," Finn admitted.

"Then we'll figure it out together," Rachel told Finn. "You're special. You know how I know that? Because I'm going to give you something that no one else is ever gonna get."

Finn knew what Rachel meant. "You don't need to do this, okay? The play's over. There's no point."

"No, the point is, is that I was wrong and stupid and immature, and probably not for the last time, lost in my ambition and..." Rachel said.

"And now?" Finn asked.

"Now I'm just a girl, here with a boy that she loves, and wanting to remember this moment for the rest of her life," Rachel said. She kissed Finn deeply as they lay next to the fireplace together. Rachel moved her hands down Finn's body as she pulled off his shirt and then pulled his pants down. He unzipped her dress and pulled it off as they slowly moved into each other.

And it was at that moment that they both knew that this was perfect. That this was a moment they'd remember forever. This was the best either of them had ever felt. They knew that neither of them could ever get this from anyone else.

Tonight, no matter what else happened, it was just them, and it was absolutely perfect. Each other was all they needed.

She couldn't have asked for a better first time, and this felt like his real first time.
