A/N: The Wedding Part 2!
Ahem... sorry I was a little excited to write it
Jamie's P.O.V
The wedding ceremony was done and dusted. Sharon had said I do without any dramatics and Doc had said I do without any interruptions. They are now staring at each other in that lovey dovey way that makes me want to throw up, but I didn't because well... I was kind of caught up with wondering if the world was going to end because Sharon hadn't scowled all day, instead she had taken to smiling and because if I threw up the ladies mightn't think of me as attractive.
We were just after arriving at the after party and Wanda and Ian (another loved up couple) had wandered off and I was now trying to find someone to talk to, namely Mel. But instead I found Jeb and his new girlfriend.
"Hey Uncle Jeb," I greeted. "Long time no see."
"Hi Jamie," he turned to his date to introduce me. "Sarah, this is Jamie, my nephew. Jamie, this is Sarah, my date."
"Nice to meet you," I held out my hand.
"Nice to meet you too," she smiled showing off her dimples. I turned back to Jeb, eager to find Mel and get some quality time with her before this dreaded party was over.
"Jeb, do you know where Mel is?"
"Last time I saw her was when we went into the church. I'm sure that she's with Jared though, so look for him. Tall, tanned, dark blonde hair, looks uncomfortable in his tuxedo, you can't miss him." I rolled my eyes at his description. It was so Jeb like.
"Thanks. Catch ya later!" I called as I ran away, looking out for this Jared fella.
Before long I thought I caught a glimpse of her, but as I called out her name and turned around sharply, I crashed roughly into someone.
"You okay little man?" A male voice boomed out, helping me up. My head spun for a while but I managed to stand up. I looked up and there he was, the perfect description of Jared.
"Wait, are you Jared?" I asked, crossing my fingers and toes for the answer yes.
"Uh huh, and you are?" Wow, he had some smile. No wonder Mel dragged him along to the wedding, she had wrote in her diary a few years back that a person who had a great smile was instantly her favourite person... not that I was supposed to read her diary but I couldn't be a perfect little brother without reading it at least once, now could I?
"I'm Jamie, Mel's brother." I introduced myself. "Where is she?" I had long noticed that she wasn't anywhere in sight.
"I don't know." His brow creased. "I'm trying to find her, she sneaked off to the drink table and after that her location is a mystery."
"Well, two pairs of eyes are better than one. Mind if I tag along?" I asked.
"Yeah, sure," he said distractedly. "Is that her?"
"Let's go and find out." I suggested.
It turned out that it wasn't her. We had checked everywhere in this massive room and there was still no sign of her. The only place left was the ladies bathroom – which Jared and I were currently fighting about.
"You're her brother."
"You're her boyfriend."
"You're younger, it wouldn't look as weird." He protested.
"You're older and you could pretend to be looking for your baby sister."
"You are looking for your sister. Besides I'd look like a pervert going in there."
"You!"
"No, you!"
"Ian, let's get some sandwiches – I'm starving!" A quiet, high voice said behind us. We looked at each other and turned around.
"Wanda!" We proclaimed together.
After a lot of convincing Wanda that finding Mel was more important than finding food and eventually making the compromise that Ian would get food while Wanda went into the bathroom on a search for Mel, Wanda had reluctantly gave in. She had stormed into the bathroom muttering something about how she was a pushover and that she was going to starve to death if she didn't eat. Five minutes later though, she had returned with Mel, who looked pale and sick.
"What? Can't a girl go to the bathroom without a search party looking for her?" Mel joked, she still sounded like Mel but she looked so different. I glanced over at Wanda, who was no longer muttering about how hungry she was.
"Mel," I heard her whisper. "Do you have any make-up?"
"What? Oh, yeah I do but I thought that I'd better show these guys I was alive first." She smiled, it was a weak, tired smile though. She turned around and headed back into the bathroom. I was just about to interrogate Wanda about what happened and I think Jared was too but she turned around to Ian first.
"What happened to sandwiches?" She demanded to know.
"Whoops..." Ian said sheepishly. "I'll get them now." He turned and walked away with a small smile.
"Wanda... What's wrong with Mel?" I asked, my voice came out small and scared. She turned to me and gave me a comforting smile.
"She's alright, she just felt a bit sick and threw up, that's all." Her voice didn't waver and there was no indication that she was telling a lie until I looked up into her eyes and they were filled with worry. I didn't get the chance to ask any more questions because Mel came out. She certainly looked better with the fresh make-up that she'd applied, but I couldn't shake the sight of her pale, gaunt face out of my memory.
"You okay Mel?" I asked her.
"Uh huh, why wouldn't I be?" She said giving me a big smile. An upbeat song came on at that time and she grabbed my hand.
"Come on, I love this song!" She shrieked, dropping my hands and running to the dance floor. I only looked at my hand though; Mel's hand was as icy as snow.
I followed Wanda and Jared to the dance floor and when we spotted Mel we rushed over to her. I joined her in dance, not wanting to disappoint her and she laughed at my not so good dance moves. When the dance was over, she seemed to shake and stumble as if she were drunk, but that was impossible as Sharon had banned any alcohol from the wedding and Mel had been okay only ten minutes ago. She seemed to stare right through me oddly and I walked up to her, to demand what was going on. But before I reached her, she began to fall.
"Mel!" A shriek left my lips as I began to run towards her – everything seemed to be going in slow motion. Would I reach her in time? What was wrong with her?
I didn't reach her in time but Jared did. He caught her in his arms just before she hit the ground. The music stopped and everyone turned around to see what was going on. Jared was still holding her and he obviously could feel the coldness of her skin as I did.
"Someone call an ambulance!" He shouted out. "Now!"
