Love in Dauntless
Chapter 52: No longer paralysed
It has been three weeks since Oscar's first birthday and today Hope is getting the injection to undo paralysis. I hope it works. I can't stand to see my daughter struggle through life because of something her 'granddad' did to her.
Right now I am getting Hope ready whilst Tobias gets Oscar ready. I slide a cute black dress over her head and help put her arms into the short sleeves. I then put a white cardigan over it. I put a cute white sock with black lace around the top on each of her feet.
"What do you want in your hair today?" I ask as I sit on her bed, she stands in front of my so I can do her hair.
"Braid." She says.
"Okay. French or normal?" I reply.
"French." She says simply.
I do a French braid in her hair and we're done in ten minutes. I grab her working hand and we head into the living room to find the boys sitting on the sofa, watching How To Train Your Dragon, which is amazing, I have to say. Hope sits on the sofa with them and I head into the kitchen to make some breakfast.
I am wearing some black, skinny jeans and a dark grey crop top. My hair is tied into a messy bun and my make-up is the same as it usually is, foundation, eyeliner and mascara.
I make some pancakes for us all and call them in when I am done. We eat, talking and laughing, like a family.
…
Hope, Tobias and I arrive at the infirmary to find Hope's doctor waiting for us already, Oscar is staying with Uriah and Marlene as they wanted some practice for when their baby comes. He smiles and tells us to follow him, so we do.
We enter a room which has a hospital bed in it and there is a tray with the injection on.
"Place Hope on the bed and we'll get started." He instructs.
I place Hope on the bed and take her cardigan off her. The doctor walks over to the injection and picks it up, walking back over to us, making sure there are no air bubbles in it.
"Right, this may hurt and she may feel pain in her arm for a while after, but we have morphine ready if she needs it. She will have to stay here for ten hours to be monitored and make sure everything is going okay. When those ten hours are up you may leave, as long as there are no complications and she feels us to it." He explains.
Tobias and I nod. I hold onto Hope's hand.
"Hope, this is going to hurt a little bit, but it will be all right, okay." He says to her.
She nods and he pushes the injection into her paralysed arm.
When he pulls the needle out Hope starts crying and squeezing my hand.
"Does it hurt sweetie?" I ask her.
"Yeah." She cries.
"I'll sort out the morphine for her." The doctor says before getting another, smaller, needle out of a drawer and attaching it to a wire that is coming down from a pouch of morphine which is hanging on an IV pole. He pushes the needle into Hope's now unparalysed hand and tapes it down before letting the liquid flow into her body. She calms down almost instantly.
"I'll leave you to it, I'll come back every hour to see how she's doing." He says before leaving the room so only Tobias, Hope and I are in here.
"Mummy, daddy, can you lay with me, please?" Hope asks.
Tobias and I nod before climbing into the large bed on either side of her, lying on our sides so we are facing her and each other.
"How does your arm feel?" Tobias asks.
"I can feel it. I can move it." She says, moving her arm like it is a snake. Tobias kisses the top of her head. "It feels weird."
"It will for a while sweetie, you have to get used to being able to feel it again." I tell her.
After a while of talking and moving her arm Hope falls asleep. I look at Tobias and smile, thankful that our daughter is better again.
"I love you, Tris. I love Hope, and Oscar as well." Tobias tells me, holding my hand in his and intertwining our fingers.
"We love you, too" I tell him, leaning over Hope's small body to kiss his lips gently.
"I'm hungry, do you want me to go and get some food? I'll get Oscar as well." He says.
"Okay. I'll see you in a bit." I reply.
"See you in a bit." He says, kissing mine and Hope's foreheads and leaving the room.
Hey Ravens, sorry for the short chapter.
