Chapter 54. The Home on the Hill
The knock on the door to the cabin Khaos shared with Mim practically flung the door off the hinges. Mim bolted upright. "Oh for the love of…" Mim grumbled sitting up. "Just a second!" Mim hollered as the knocking continued getting louder. She wrapped a shawl around her nightgown before turning to Khaos who was still sound asleep in the hammock beside hers. "How can you not hear that?" Mim grumbled as she crossed the short distance between the two hammocks. "Hey!" Mim cried not bothering to be gentle. "Wake up!"
Khaos sprang awake… or at least he sat up very quickly. Whether he was fully conscious or not was difficult to say. "Who…who dares disturb my… my slumber?" he babbled eyes still closed.
"WAKE UP!" Mim hollered shaking him roughly. The knocking got louder and this time was accompanied with the angry voice of Dr. Facilier.
"Get up you idiots! You're needed!" In the next morning Facilier had kicked the door open.
"Was that necessary?" Khaos demanded, now fully awake. "Why didn't you just knock?" Mim groaned aloud.
"Never mind that," Dr. Facilier interrupted. "Fetch your book, Khaos. We've spotted the Black Pearl off the coast of Peru."
"We did want now?" Khaos sputtered. "Book? Pearl… PERU?"
"Yes!" Facilier yelled. The remaining shred of his patience. "Get your book and get out here you purple pinheads." He slammed the door roughly causing several of Mim's vials to drop off the shelf.
Khaos sniffed. "He's just saying that because we were it better than him."
"MOVE IT KHAOS!" Facilier bellowed.
Mim shot Khaos a look. "What do we do?"
"Just go with it for now," Khaos sighed. "I'll think of something." Mim retrieved the book from underneath his hammock pillow and the two sprang up the steps onto the main deck.

"So… just to update," Sophia said as the cart rambled down the dirt road. "It's very late, we're very far from the ship, an evil… whatever Yzma is… has control of the empire and we have an unconscious llama in a bag."
"Yeah," Rob remarked. "And the sad thing is that isn't even the weirdest thing that's happened to us this week."
Alice shifted slightly. Emma had fallen asleep on her lap and she was struggling to find a comfortable position without waking the sleeping girl. "Any thoughts about what we do now?"
"Not yet," Rob frowned. Sophia scowled. She pretended to stretch her legs, but managed to give the bag holding Kuzco a frustrated kick at the same time. "I saw that," Rob scolded. "Knock it off, Sophia, He's already going to have a whopper of a headache." Sophia folded her arms and settled back in place.
"So where will you guys be spending the night?" Pacha asked.
"Well uh… how far away is the coast?" Rob asked.
Pacha frowned. "Hours away by now."
"Spectacular," Jack frowned. "And I left Will in charge, I bet he's sleeping in my hammock even as we speak."
Sophia gave Jack a skeptical look. "Really? That's what you're concerned about?"
"I wouldn't head back now," Pacha said gravely. "The jungles are dangerous at night. You're welcome to spend the night with me and my family."
"I would welcome that," Sophia stated.
"Your wife won't mind?" Rob asked.
"No she could use some adult conversation after spending so much time with the kids," Pacha smiled.
"It would probably do Emma some good if she got a proper night's sleep," Alice said stroking Emma's hair.
Emma suddenly woke up at the touch.
"Not asleep," she muttered sleepily.
"Of course not, Emma," Alice said with a smile.
"I'm not. I'm wide awake. I was awake the whole time," Emma insisted.
"Then what were w-w-we discussing?" Jackie asked.
"Uhhh…. Llamas?" she glanced at Kuzco.
"Nice try, kid." Rob said. Emma pouted.
"B-b-by the way," Jackie added. "It never occurred to m-m-me to ask before. B-b-but what did the emperor w-w-want to see you for?"
Pacha was quiet for a long time. "He wanted to know where he could get the most sun on… the hill where I live."
Jackie looked confused. "How peculiar. W-w-why would he want to know that?" She looked to Pacha. "Is he g-g-going to visit you? Like a v-v-vacation?"
Jack frowned. "It's a vacation love, but Pacha won't be present if Kuzco has his way."
"W-w-what?" Jackie cried. "Why w-w-wouldn't he be there? It's his house."
Pacha looked glummer than Rob had ever seen before. Jack frowned. "Well… Kuzco is the Emperor if he wants to knock down a house and put up… say… a palace, he can."
"Vacation house actually," Pacha said. "Plans on calling it Kuzcotopia."
"No!" Jackie cried. "That's dreadful!" Sophia paused and glared at the sack containing Kuzco before shoving her back into it trying to knock him off the cart. Rob grabbed her arm and yanked her back.
"Sophia!" she hissed.
"Oh look," Pacha cried. "We're here." He gestured ahead. A small sleepy town was settled on the hill above. Llamas moved about idly muching grass and the warm light glowed in the little square windows. At the very top of the hill was a small house. The door hung open and they could see three figures in the doorway. Two of them were small. It had to be Pacha's house and family.
"Wait," Emma cried sitting up in shock. "Are those… are those actually kids? Kids who are MY age?"
"Mom! Mom! I think I'm still growing!" A small boy close to Emma's age cried jumping up and down.
The woman besides him, a very pregnant woman, smiled indulgingly. "All right Tipo stand still and let's see."
"Mom," a little pigtailed girl interrupted. "We both know that it's impossible for him to have grown in the past five minutes." She looked doubtfully at her mother. "Isn't it?"
Pacha's wife drew a line on the side of the door above the boy's head. She gasped playfully. "Look how much you've grown!" His daughter looked amazed. "What?" She shoved her brother aside,"Tipo, get out of the way! It's my turn again. Measure me!"
Tipo glanced over at them and let out a happy cry. "Dad's home." The two children raced towards Pacha who scooped them up into his arms.
"Hey! Come here," Pacha grinned. His wife watched lovingly from the door. She stood up slowly a hand on her large belly.
"Dad! I ate a bug today!" Tipo announced proudly as he swiped Pacha's cap and plopped it on his head.
"Oh! Was Mom baking again?" Pacha joked. "Don't tell her I said that," he whispered.
"I heard that," his wife scolded. She came down the path smiling, "Okay, everybody, move aside. Lady with a baby comin' through."
Rob smiled as he watched the sight unfold before him but at the same time he couldn't help but feel a little sad. The warm family scene reminded him of his life at home. He found himself missing not only Kelsey but his mom and dad and his other older sister, Holly. All of whom were safe at home but he wasn't sure if he was likely to see them any more than he would see Kelsey.
"Dad! Dad! Dad!" Tipo cried tugging on Pacha's hand. "Look at how big I am."
"We were all measured today," his wife explained with a smile.
"Oh," Pacha said with a smile gesturing for the others to come along. Emma bounded off the cart tugging on Rob's hand.
"I'm going through a growth spurt," Tipo announced proudly as he stood against the door frame where all of Pacha's family members had marked their heights. Rob was surprised at the number of marks on the wall. "I'm as big as you were when you were me," Tipo smiled.
"Mm-hmm. Sure are," Pacha agreed.
"That's not as impressive as my loose tooth," his daughter announced. "See?" She blew her breath in and out and tooth wobbled back and forth. Pacha smiled as the others appeared.
"Guys," he smiled. "I've got a friend for you to meet." Chica perked up at this. Pacha invited Emma closer. "This is Emma." He said. "Emma these are my kids Chaca and Tipo.
For few seconds the three of them just stared at each other. Chaca finally said, "I like your pigtails."
"Thanks," Emma smiled. "I like yours. " She turned to Tipo. "You're really tall."
"I LIKE her!" Tipo grinned.
"Okay, okay, you two," his wife said. "Our deal was that you could stay awake until Daddy came home. Now say good night. You can take Emma up to your room tonight."
Pacha's children looked crestfallen. "Dad, do we have to?" they turned towards their father in unison, offering him a powerful sad puppy dog face.
"Whoa," Emma cried applauding. "That is impressive. Really amazing talent."
Pacha smiled, "No, you two can stay up." He pulled his wife close. "We're just gonna be sittin' here tellin' each other how much we love each other. Right, honey?" He grinned and made a kissy face at his wife.
"Blech!" His kids looked horrified. "Good night," they cried. They each grabbed one of Emma's arms and dragged her away.
"Um… bye guys," Emma cried as they moved up the steps.
Pacha smiled. "Well, now that they're in bed. Guys this is my wife, Chicha. Chicha, these guys… well they had a meeting with the emperor and they have a long way to go home. I couldn't stand the thought of them out in the night."
Chicha nodded. "Of course. It's much too dangerous out there at night. Welcome. Come inside."
"Thank you so much," Rob grinned.
Chicha turned towards Pacha. "So, what did the emperor want?"
Pacha froze for a few moments. "You know what? He couldn't see me."
"Couldn't see you?" Chicha cried. "Why not?" Rob shot Pacha a confused look.
"I don't know," Pacha shrugged.
"Well... Well, that's just rude," Chicha grumbled.
"And extremely immature," Sophia added.
"Sophia," Rob warned.
"Well, he is the emperor," Pacha pointed out. "I'm sure he's busy."
"No, no, no, no. No. Emperor or no emperor, it's called common courtesy," Chicha insisted.
"Honey..." Pacha said delicately.
"If that were me, I'd march right back there and demand to see him," Chicha continued. "And you know I would."
"Kelsey would like her," Rob remarked.
"Sweetie, sweetie, think of the baby," Pacha cautioned moving closer to his wife.
"Pacha, I'm fine," Chicha sighed. "This baby's not coming for a while, but even if it was...I'd give that guy a piece of my mind. That kind of behavior just-just..." Chicha let out a snort of frustration. "I gotta go wash something."
"A woman after my own heart," Sophia grinned. She made her way over to the wash basin and helped scrub dishes with a vigor that Rob hadn't seen in ages."
Alice and Jackie made their way over to help with the drying while Jack flopped into one of the chairs in the kitchen. Pacha stood in the doorway running his fingers over the carvings in the doorway. Chicha noticed his quietness and turned back towards him. "Pacha? You okay?" she asked.
"Hmm?" Pacha murmured distractedly. "Oh, yeah. I'm just a little tired from the trip.
Um, I'm gonna go put Misty away." Pacha turned to leave. Rob didn't like the sound of Pacha's voice.
"I'm… I'm going to go help him," Rob said before chasing after Pacha and running into the night.

Pirates raced around the ship moving to their posts by the time Aaron emerged from below. Ragetti nearly crashed into him. Aaron jumped out of the way in time. "Jeez," Aaron cried. "Every time I come up here the shit is hitting the fan!"
Will raced by quickly shoving something into Aaron's hands. "Can you use one of these?" Aaron looked down at the sword Will had given him.
"Not really," Aaron said looking at it dubiously.
"Now is a good time to learn," Will said. "We're under attack… or we will be shortly. There's no wind so we're not running…"
"WILL get down!" Elizabeth shrieked. She flung herself at Will. A cannonball had flow through the air striking through one of the masts and knocking part of it free. A large spar dropped down nearly crushing the two of them.
Will gazed at the piece of wood with wide eyes before turning to Elizabeth. "Thanks," he breathed. Elizabeth nodded mutely staring at the wood on the ground as well.
Suddenly, the boat seemed to lurch to one side. Aaron, Will and Elizabeth had barely made it to their feet when the tipping knocked them back down. "What the heck is going on?" Aaron cried. The boat seemed to be moving through the water but instead of moving forwards, it felt as if someone had grabbed the port side of the boat and was tugging it towards them.
"This isn't right," Gibbs cried, clutching a mast to keep his balance. "The currents are going in that direction and there's no wind."
Will wobbled to his feet and gazed out at the Jolly Roger. There was a figure standing on the deck dressed all in purple and holding a large book. Khaos.
"He's using the book to drag us in," Will cried.
"What do we do?" Elizabeth cried.
Aaron growled and began searching around for something. "What on earth are you looking for?" Elizabeth cried.
"Something I can throw," Aaron said. He turned to the nearest pirate and snatched a dagger from the belt of the nearest pirate. "That will do," he said.
He hefted the dagger. The ship grew closer and closer until it was alongside the Black Pearl. He flung the dagger towards Khaos. The dagger whirled around in circles before the pommel of the blade struck Khaos in the forehead. Khaos let out a cry of pain and dropped roughly to the ground in surprise dropping The Book.
The spell stopped immediately but the two ships were close enough that the Thirteen could board. Dr. Facilier laughed. "Go my friends attack!"
Suddenly, a wave of black shadows swept over the ship. The shadows suddenly began to kick and claw at the pirates. Will let out a yelp of surprise when he felt one of the shadows grip him by the throat and lift him and his shadow off the ground. Will let out a gasp and swung his sword wildly. He managed to slash the shadow, or more to the point, Will's shadow was able to slash the shadow. The shadow let out a shriek of pain and dropped Will. Will roughly landed on his feet. At that moment, he saw Aaron move out of the corner of his eye. Aaron had grabbed a line and swung across to the other ship.
"Aaron!" Will cried.
Aaron landed on the deck of the other ship and lunged forwards for the book. Khaos was dazed and slowly getting to his feet. Aaron snatched up the book. Aaron scrambled back to the line.
"GET HIM!" Hook suddenly hollered catching sight of Aaron. Aaron grabbed the rope and swung across to The Pearl. He roughly struck to the ground, still clutching The Book.
"I got it!" Aaron yelled raising the book at the angry crew members on the other book. "HAHA! I got it! I got it! I got it!"
Suddenly, another figure appeared on the deck a short distance away. Dr. Facilier. The voo doo man had followed Aaron's example and swung across to The Pearl. He landed nimbly behind Elizabeth. Will's mouth hung open and he let out a cry.
"Elizabeth!"
Dr. Facilier roughly struck her down and whipped out a dagger. The very dagger that Aaron had thrown. He held it to Elizabeth's throat and grinned wickedly at Aaron.
"I think we need to make a deal, my boy."
