Thank you for your reviews! I'm sorry it took me so long to update, I never meant to take this long! Anyway, I truly appreciate all that you have to say, and the last chapter was no different. I know you're all mad about how Austin is acting but I promise - someone is going to notice and soon. He won't suffer in complete silence for much longer. With how he's acting, he won't be able to. Still, we have a bit of a road to go before that, but these next two chapters are actually two favorites of mine because they're fluffy and adorable and sort of homage to certain other parts of the story and characters. Besides, we see a lot of bonding, which I think is important. I know some people aren't crazy about the other characters in this story, such as Tyler/Cassidy/etc but they are important to the story, too. No one I've put in this story for more than one chapter is in it for no reason. Everyone's got a purpose. I hope you all remember that. Anyway, keep the reviews coming, and I'll keep posting! ... well, I'm going to keep posting anyway, but I still love hearing what you have to say. ;)

Let me know what you think. Enjoy!
It was a beautiful Wednesday morning as Ally tried to stuff the last of too many suitcases in the back of her car. She pushed on the one nearest her, wondering why it couldn't budge another inch or two. She huffed, shoving her weight on it, only to have Dez come over and practically push one hand down in comparison. She rolled her eyes, shoving him. "Whatever."
He chuckled, swinging her into a hug. "Can't top these muscles."
"What muscles?" Trish taunted from beside him. "I'm marrying a pole."
"Ouch, that hurts."
The two of them continued their banter and she turned to face the others joining them, seeing Casey's beautiful car lined up beyond hers. "I'm sorry that we can't take one car," she said to him, giving him a sincere look. "It would have been fun."
"It's alright," he assured her. "We don't mind. I would prefer it, actually."
They shared a look she didn't understand. "Let me just double check the address one last time and we should be good to go."
"Awesome."
"Ally! Have you called Cassidy and Tyler?"
"Yes, they left last night. Ryan, his brother, was a nervous wreck letting them go alone." She motioned to the car and they all joined around. "Alright, so according to the directions, we should be there late this afternoon, probably right before dinner."
"Drive safe," she stated to the other couple driving, then turned to her companions. "We're ready. Are you guys good?"
A few nods went about and soon, they were in separate cars, ready to hit the highway. Ally sat in the driver's seat, her body threatening to bounce right out of it. She was only a few hours from seeing her boyfriend in over three months.
To say she was excited would be an understatement. She knew how rough his job had been in the times since returning home from deployment and she was sure he was going to love to be relaxing with her and those closest to him. Besides, she'd gotten a text from him early one morning that had scared her, and she'd worried he'd done something truly terrible. A conversation the next morning told her he might have had a little too much to drink with a friend, but was never going to do it again.
Ally loved that Austin was honest with her.
Soon, they were a few hours from home and driving steadily toward the state that was so famous for its peaches. The music was loud, the company was good. She couldn't help but think how thankful she was for all of it. Austin. What he brought with him—friends, family even, and so many memories she would cherish forever. She would have never met half of the people she cared so much for. How did she get by with just Cassidy? It wasn't that she didn't love her—she couldn't wait to wrap her best friend in a hug—but Dez's goofy persona, Casey's protective ways, they were all such important parts of her life.
A true meaning to the holiday they were about to celebrate.
She had a lot to be thankful for.
Hours passed and time seemed to fly surprisingly, as they crossed into the border of Georgia. She would have been excited had they been going directly to Dez's Uncle's house, but they needed to stop for Austin first. Scratch the original idea. She was going to see Austin in only about two hours. Her heart thumped in her chest, reminding her of this each time it gave an extra hard pound. How did she go so long without him? How did anyone?
She'd done it though. Times were hard, but she'd done it.
They were soon only an hour from the base. Ally had to switch with Trish because she could hardly contain herself anymore. She'd been texting him nonstop the moment her fingers were free, telling him over and over again how much she was going to kiss him—how she wasn't going to share—until she was sure he was sick of it.
Her hands were shaking as they pulled up in front of the base.
"Oh my Gosh, we're here!"
It was such a better feeling than the one from before—this time she wasn't dropping off her boyfriend, she was picking him up. A final text was sent his way—telling him to leave his room and come find them in the waiting area of the parking lot. Ally practically ripped her seat belt off, tearing out of the car so that she was in front of it, bouncing up and down and looking over her shoulder every so often in case for some reason he came up from behind.
Nothing prepared her for the moment he walked through that door. There was something sexy about a man in uniform, but there was also something just as hot about a man in jeans and a white t shirt. She didn't waste time as she raced the distance to him, throwing her arms around his shoulders, pulling him as tight as humanly possible. He seemed so good—better than she remembered. Ally bit back tears, feeling stupid for crying when he was safe this time around.
But he held her tightly too, his strong arms firmly around the small of her back, holding her there as she swung gently just above the ground. He'd carried her just a bit, leading her back to the car so that he could greet his other friends. Austin released her and she stole her first long glance at the boy she'd fallen so hard for. His face was bright and tan—probably from working outside so often—and she somehow managed to fall in love with tiny things she never noticed before.
Austin Moon was everything. He'd always be everything.
"I've missed you so much," she murmured after he broke his hug with the other two standing there.
"You look beautiful," he told her.
She wanted to snort. She was wearing a skirt and a plain top, nothing that fancy and certainly not what she was wearing the next day, but she didn't mind compliments from the man she loved. He picked her up again, bringing her to the backseat. She silently thanked Trish as she took the seat in the driver's side again, getting lost in the chocolate-colored eyes her boyfriend owned.
"You look tired," she whispered as she touched his face, feeling the smooth skin beneath her fingers.
"I am," he admitted.
"We've got about a two hour trip between here and his Uncle. Rest."
And with that, he did. She never felt better to have him lying on her shoulder, sleeping peacefully the remainder of the way.
When they arrived, they found Casey and Clara waiting for them. The two brothers hugged like no others could, and then he turned to the small bump that was Clara's stomach. He raised a hand tentatively. "Can I?" he asked. She nodded, a small but appreciative smile on her face as he gently put his hand on her stomach, holding it there. "I'm sorry, but that's amazing," he chuckled. "Good job, Casey."
"I had a part in that," she teased back.
"I'd say so," he fired back with a smile of his own.
Before anyone else could say a word, an ear piercing scream broke the conversation and a blur of hair came rushing past all of them and right into Ally. The girl was nearly knocked off her feet, but soon was swinging back and forth with a giggling, chattering strawberry blonde, who you could not understand if you tried.
Ally had tears for the second time that day. She hadn't seen her best friend since Austin's homecoming party back in August, and phone calls weren't enough. They remained like that for a few minutes, before coming back to the rest of the world.
Tyler, who was stuck in the car because he did not have his legs on yet, yelled for Cassidy.
"Nice if you to leave my ass here!"
"Excuse me, when your name is Ally Dawson, who I have not seen for almost four months, you can talk to me!"
Ally rolled her eyes. She wouldn't say she understood their relationship.
The other girl disappeared for a couple minutes before helping Tyler to his feet several later. He teetered a bit before gaining control and Ally bit back a smile. Dez was grinning ear to ear, probably knowing what it felt like to finally have control back over his body. He didn't know the other man as well, but it was an unspoken code between soldiers and men of their sort. She slowly followed after the man, stopping only when he did to embrace Ally. "Looking good," she told him.
She then backed away when Tyler caught Austin's gaze.
"Hey," he said softly.
Austin seemed a bit torn, a little afraid, and a whole bunch of nervous. "I'm sorry for not calling," he finally blurt.
"Not a problem," his friend assured him. "I swear."
He motioned for him to come closer and Ally's smile finally grew when they embraced.
She saw Austin whisper something to the boy, but she didn't know what.
"We're all here," Ally realized. "Back together."
"About time!" Dez announced.
Austin finally turned to everyone, "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
Ally finally turned her body so that she was facing the home of her friend's family. A gasp escaped her lips when she saw the absolutely stunning home before her. A southern home modernized, Ally couldn't take her eyes off it. She tugged on her boyfriend's hand, trying to wrap her head around how wide the house was, and how simple yet somehow highly detailed the porch was. Beyond the house were thick trees, but she could see twinkling lights from where she stood in the dusk. He finally caught her attention and chuckled, "Gotta love the South."
"I can't believe how beautiful it is," she marveled.
Dez came up beside her, "Uncle Ethan loves his house more than I think he loves his wife."
"Now, Dez that is not true!" came a bellowing voice and a man with crazy red curls and a frame similar to her friend's. His voice was loud, deep and somehow warming, and his smile was the same. Oddly, her friend looked a lot like his uncle, minus the curly hair. He came to them, a broad, friendly smile coating his fuzzy beard. He slapped a hand on his nephew's back, pulling him into a tight hug. "Long time, kid. How have you been?" He pulled back to give him a fleeting serious look.
"Good," he said quietly. "Promise. Where is Aunt Kathy?"
"She's inside and got her head in a bowl," the man chuckled. "Baking those homemade pies."
"Ooh," the man cooed. "I can't wait for that."
"Dez," the older stated, "Aren't you going to introduce me to these people you've told me so much about? Your fiancé first!"
He pulled Trish to his side, a proud smile on his face. "This is the woman who puts up with me."
"Nice to meet you," she giggled. "Dez speaks so highly of you. It's a pleasure to finally see you."
"Does he?" he murmured. "Dez, we talked about this! They're not supposed to know I'm nice. I wanted to scare them!"
"And this," he said, ignoring the man's chuckle, "Is Austin and Ally. Next to them are Cassidy and Tyler, and finally that is Casey and Clara."
"Nice to meet you all. Like I said, my wife is inside slaving away at the stove, so you might not see her for a while." He raised a hand. "Last time I went in there, she swatted me so hard, I saw stars! But fear not, my Kathy is a sweetheart, just not when she's got sharp objects in her hand." He dismissed his nephew's whine. "Now follow me! I'll show you to your rooms!"
The group was silent as they were led up a pathway with cobbled stones, to the door that held a fall colored wreath. The man that Ally quickly found herself liking continued to talk (reminding her of a certain friend) and explain the details of his house as they were let inside—an aroma from the kitchen causing them all to halt momentarily. Ally was so pleased by the design around her, the homey feeling to the rooms and the even more welcoming company. Much to her dismay, the boys were separated from the girls and Ally found herself rooming with Cassidy.
"His uncle is really nice," Cassidy stated as she set down her bags, putting them on the bed to the right. She turned to face Ally as she did the same, and the girl nodded.
"I missed you so much," she murmured for a second time, throwing herself back into her arms of her best friend. "I can't believe we're finally here. This house is beautiful. We're all together. Everyone is happy. I can't believe how lucky we are."
"I missed you too," the girl answered quietly. "It hasn't been an easy ride."
"I know," she assured her. "But you have a break for the next few days. I'm sure there will be some drinks, so have one, have some fun, let loose. Don't worry about anything you don't have to."
Cassidy grinned a little, "Only if you do the same."
A tiny, naughty smile spread on her face. "Then if I'm going to do that, we need to somehow switch rooms with the boys."
"It's like I don't even know you anymore!" she screamed back, throwing a pillow at her. "My best friend has become a sex addict in the last few months!"
"Shh!" she hissed, throwing the pillow back. "Oh my Gosh, don't say that!"
"It's true!"
"It is not."
Cassidy continued to taunt her as she ran away from her, directly into Austin. He chuckled as he balanced her, her cheeks warming almost instantly. "Hi."
"Where are you off to?"
"Oh, no where," she murmured back. "Just looking for you."
"Found me," he teased, and she didn't waste another second. She pressed her lips to his and took his hand, pulling him back into her room. She threw Cassidy out seconds later and slammed the door shut, allowing him to take control as they plummeted to the firm bed below. They couldn't do much, considering there was not a lock and Cassidy would not stay out long, but she felt herself relax and tingle at the touches her boyfriend was scattering around her body. She twitched as he left a kiss on her neck, sucking there as she stiffened as his touch went lower.
She let her own hands roam his body, feeling his muscles under his shirt, and the small of his back as she toyed with the fabric. It was all so tight and strong. She could stay like this forever.
"I needed this," she admitted.
He chuckled, "Believe me, you're not the only one."
"Can't we just be alone for a few hours," she murmured. "I don't want to see anyone else right now."
"People will wonder," he smirked.
"Let them wonder," she pouted.
Another laugh escaped him, "I like this new, brave Ally."
"Did you kids settle in alright?"
The group nodded at the man (now with his pretty wife) in the living room of the home. There was décor everywhere and Ally was staring wide-eyed at the beautiful stone fireplace, watching it flicker every so often. She wanted nothing more to sit in front of it with her friends and just chat about life (okay, so that was the second thing she wanted to do, but there would be no time for what they both had in mind).
"Why don't you go explore then?" Kathy suggested with a tiny smile. "We've got several acres of land and there is plenty to do. There is also a guest house which has a huge TV inside with a fully functioning entertainment center. I don't think dinner will be too full tonight since tomorrow will be. I'll probably just order a pizza or two, actually."
"Sounds like a plan," Trish agreed. "What time should we be back?"
"Couple hours?" Uncle Ethan stated. "No rush."
The group broke apart, much to Ally's surprise. Trish and Dez went to a part of the house with his uncle, Clara said she was going to take this time to nap, and Casey joined her, and she had no idea where the last couple were headed, but from the smiles on their faces, she figured they too were up to no good.
"Want to check out the property?" Ally suggested.
"Yes, yes I do."
"Here, Austin," Kathy stated, handing the boy two cups of what smelled like apple cider. "It's a little chilly out there this afternoon. Enjoy, kids."
Ally smiled warmly at the woman before following her boyfriend out to the backyard that slightly resembled a forest. Had it not been for a clearly marked path, she was sure they would have gotten lost in the property. To her left she saw an open field with what looked like targets and some sort of station. She wondered what they were, but didn't have much time to keep her interest there as everything was so new. There was a huge garden to her right, and in the middle was a large patio area with a screened in tent. They walked around it to the path, walking along in silence for a bit.
"It would be nice to have something like this," Ally admitted.
He shot her a glance, "I sure hope you plan to have a lot of money."
She rolled her eyes, "I don't mean like that, Austin. They seem so happy and in love. I want to be able to show off like they do, look so sweet. I can't wait for that day."
"I know. We'll have that someday," he assured her, squeezing her fingers.
She smiled up at him as they walked deeper down the path, studying the various trees and other earthy things. She couldn't help but think about the day they finally settled down together in their own place, with their own lives outside of the army. She didn't know where she'd be in a few years, but as long as she was with Austin, she didn't care. Of course, she wanted to finish her degree, and get a job.
"Where do you want to live?"
"Huh?"
"Do you want to stay in Miami?"
"It is home," he admitted. "Despite everything, I couldn't imagine being anywhere else."
"Me either," she agreed. "We could get something like Casey and Clara."
Austin snorted, "We could move in next door or something and I could torment them every day."
"I'm sure they'd love to know that," she giggled.
He shrugged, "I've been doing it to my brother since we were kids." Ally didn't miss the word 'brother' in his sentence. "Clara is just an added bonus."
"Are you excited for the baby to come?"
Austin's lips twitched, "Yeah. It's so weird though. Who would have thought?"
They reached the end of the path and found themselves in front of a small bridge that covered a stream. There were lights along the path, and Ally guessed that was the other couple's doing. She walked tentatively onto the wooden boards, peaking over the ledge to see murky water rushing below. A few birds were nestled near the edge, rinsing off and such. She took a sip of her drink and then turned back to her boyfriend, who leaned against the side. "It must be weird."
"He's my best friend. I can't imagine him with a baby." The bewilderment in his tone made her laugh.
"We all grow up, Austin."
"I know," he laughed, making a face. "It still freaks me out though."
"Do you want kids?"
He seemed to consider this, "Yeah, that'd be nice. It would be fun to teach a little kid how to skateboard or play a guitar. I would love to pass that onto someone else."
"I would love that too," she said quietly. "What would you name the baby?"
He didn't have an answer right away, "I don't know. What would you name our baby?"
Her heart jumped in her chest. Their baby. "Depends. If it's a girl, maybe something like Lilly. If it's a boy…"
He turned his head to face her.
She shrugged, "I don't really know. Austin junior?" she teased.
"Oh God, no."
The two laughed.
"I would have to meet the baby first," she finally decided. "That's fair, right?"
"Definitely."
"Austin," she whispered.
"Yeah?"
The lights twinkled behind them. "I really, really love you."
His lips curved into a smile, and he paused in mid-step, giving her a look that sent shivers down to the core of her body. She felt his hand search for hers again, having only been broken away for a moment; he squeezed it, holding it tightly in his rough, work-worn fingers. "I never thought I'd find someone like you," he murmured as the wind blew. They exited the tiny bridge, strolling back toward the house. "I never thought I'd find love like this."
She didn't know what to say, only gazed up at him lovingly.
"You don't really get it," he chuckled, looking down at her. "It's different for me."
"I don't have to get it," she answered simply. "I can feel it."
"I don't know where I'd be without you."
His eyes darkened momentarily. She wanted to just lay somewhere with him, get lost in him. In every single way possible.
"I guess we should get back," she finally managed to say. "It's been a while." Somehow, they got lost in their time together.
"Yeah, that probably is a good idea." Their tones suggested otherwise.
Another chuckle escaped his throat as they crossed back into the wooded area, coming up toward the guest house that Dez's Uncle had mentioned at some point. Austin was first to step in front of it, looking over the cobbled stone building with a tiny smile. "Kind of reminds you of the cottage, huh?"
Ally finally strolled to the front. Her cheeks burned at the memories, "Yeah, it does."
Before she could answer, there was a scream from inside. Ally watched her boyfriend switch from civilian to soldier, his back arching as he took off toward the door. He motioned for Ally to stay back, but she didn't listen as he carefully turned the knob, opening it so that he could peek inside. Another scream exited a female's mouth at that point and Austin seemingly went on guard. "It sounds like Cassidy," Ally whispered.
He motioned again for her to stay back. This time, she did as they entered, another stunning interior design her first sight. Finally, curiosity and worry got the better of her, and she followed after Austin, who paused abruptly at the door. A twisted smile replaced his worried gaze. "Oh," he laughed. "Guess all is good here."
"What?" she whispered. "What are you talking about?"
Austin's exterior visibly relaxed and she noticed the humor in his tone. This time, she pushed him out of the way and peered into the room, only to find her hands covering her eyes. "Oh! Oh!" There were two people situated on a messy bed, clothes shed and littered around the wooden floor. And those two people looked familiar. They shifted from where they were entangled, Cassidy's eyes finding the opposite couple first. It was hard to make the girl blush, but her face was as red as the lacy discarded underwear that was hung from one of the bed posts.
"Oh," she murmured, nudging her boyfriend. "We uh, have company."
A silky sheet covered them both now and Tyler grinned sheepishly. "Hey, guys."
"Nothing to see here," Ally called out, already heading for the door. "Uh! You guys have fun; we'll be back at the house. Make sure you make the bed. It's rude not to!"
Austin was lingering though; she heard him chortle from her hiding place by the door. "My man!"
"Let's go," she called out, her voice tight. "Austin!"
Sometime later, after nearly three pizzas were devoured by a hungry mob of teenagers, the former mentioned were seated by Dez's family's fireplace in the living room. The adults had retired early, a twinkle in their eyes when they suggested the fireplace remain lit. Dez had even snuck a bottle of some sort of liquor into the living room and was holding it firmly in his hands. From the sights around them, Ally knew they would be there for a while. It wasn't like anyone was tired; and it truly was the first time her group of friends had been together since Austin's homecoming.
"I'm stuffed," Cassidy moaned happily. "I love pizza. Don't you guys love pizza?"
"Pizza is good," Casey said dryly, flicking his hair toward his best friend.
Austin had Ally nuzzled in his grasp, her head leaning on his shoulder while she watched the fire dance in the little cove it sat in. Once in a while, it would shoot up higher flames and she'd find it reflecting in her boyfriend's eyes.
"So," Dez finally stated. "I know not everyone can drink, but I would like to make a toast."
"I brought soda with us, too," Trish added, giving her fiancé a look. "For everyone else."
"Anyway," Dez continued, grinning ear to ear. "Here is to being together. Here is to being thankful for everyone in this room, the friendships that formed over the last year or so, and all that has come of it. Here's to the hardships we've faced, the opportunities we've been given, and all the greatness that is bound to come in the months ahead. We've all got a lot going on, but I'm really glad we're here together right now and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. Truly. Thanks." He poured a few glasses of the liquor, as Trish poured the glasses of soda. Ally watched her friends for a moment, seeing Cassidy, Trish, and Dez all reach for shots of liquor, while Tyler (begrudgingly) reached for soda. Casey and Clara soon followed, leaving the final couple to make their choice. Much to her surprise, Austin reached for the soda, so she followed.
"To friends," she finally stated. "And making memories."
"I can't wait to the day I can drink again," Tyler announced, rolling his eyes. "I want off of all these meds."
"They're brutal," Dez agreed. "Believe me, I know."
"This subject is depressing," Cassidy cut in. "Can we talk about something else?"
"Music seems to be something that brings a lot of us together," Casey suggested. "How about that?"
"I miss music," Tyler mused. "A lot. We had a lot of fun over there playing. Right, Austin?"
Austin, who had been quiet where he sat, looked up. A tiny smile crossed his face. "Oh yeah."
"You guys were great in high school, too," Clara added, nudging her husband with one elbow. She sat above him on the couch, pillows piled around her while she sank her fingers through his dark hair. "You guys should have seen these two play in our local music store. They rocked."
"That we did," Casey agreed.
Austin's smile widened. "I miss those days sometimes."
"I wish I could have seen you two play!" Ally stated. "Wait. You guys should play now!"
Suddenly, everyone was egging them on. Austin's smile grew timid, and he looked to Casey, who surprisingly had a similar expression his face. It was no secret it'd been a while since they really played a song together and nerves seemed to come into play. Casey was first to speak, "Sorry, Ally. I didn't bring my guitar."
"No, you didn't. It's out in the car," Clara piped up, a smile crossing into her features. He looked sourly at his wife, who only slapped him on the back of the head. He rubbed it gingerly. She shared a look with Ally. "Why don't you go and get it?"
"It's late," Austin added. "We shouldn't play music when Dez's Uncle is sleeping."
"I'm sure he won't mind," Dez disagreed. "Come on, guys! Let's hear it."
The two boys looked at each other and Austin was first to make his grin devilish. "What do you say, Rhodes? Think we still have it in us?" He took the answer as a yes when the dark-haired boy went out to his car and returned with an acoustic guitar. "What should we play? What do you remember how to play, more importantly?"
"I know." He motioned for him to come closer. Casey played a few chords, and nodded at his brother. "Sound good?"
Austin closed his eyes, humming to himself. "Yeah, I think so."
"Alright."
The group sat up eagerly as the two boys stood before their friends. Ally had never seen either boy so nervous before. It was especially odd to see Casey unnerved as he always seemed to be put together; but it was something special probably to the both of them when it came to the music they played together.
Austin was first to hum a note as Casey strummed the guitar.
I'm gonna be first to the finish line
Never givin' up 'til we're out of time
And I'm gonna make it there no doubt
That's what I'm about, I'm about
Not gonna break 'til the music stops
Keep on climbing 'til we hit the top
If you got a dream, gotta let it out
Show 'em what you're all about, all about
Na na na na na
I got a feeling that tonight's the night, yeah
Na na na na na
I got a feeling that it's our time
Let's take this out to the streets
Everyone's following me
We'll throw our hands to the sky
We're celebrating our life
Come on let's give it a shot
This may be all that we've got
Right here, the moment is now
Let's show 'em what we're about
Oh whoa
Let's show 'em what we're about
Oh whoa
If you don't try then you'll never know
Just how far that you're gonna go
We can take off, fly the world around
See what it's all about, all about
I can hear music in the air
And I see people everywhere
I can feel the magic in the crowd
'Cause that's what we're all about, all about
Na na na na na
I got a feeling that tonight's the night, yeah
Na na na na na
I got a feeling that it's our time
Let's take this out to the streets
Everyone's following me
We'll throw our hands to the sky
We'll celebrate it all night
Come on let's give it a shot
This may be all that we've got
Right here, the moment is now
Let's show 'em what we're about

Let's show 'em what we're about
Oh whoa

"Holy shit, dude!"
"That was great!"
"I didn't know you sang that well!"
"That was awesome."
"Baby, that was really good."
Ally was last to add, "It seems really fitting, doesn't it?"
