Chapter 54
Once they had reached the court room, Ayame, Sango, Miroku, Sesshomaru, and Rin all greeted the leaders that were already there and were glad to take note of their anger and their confusion as to why they were all present when they had only requested the second son of the House of Inu. Before anything could be said or done, Rin had already thrown a dagger and marked each of the tables before all of the leaders and growled out, "If I didn't know any better there is some that still wish to stir up trouble when we are so close to ending things in a peaceful manner."
"And trust us when we say that we will not take this lightly nor will we ignore a threat to our pack." Ayame joined in as she growled out her own statement.
"Are you foolish children still on about that? Your pack is your house and nothing out side of it will be acknowledged. Now take your leave for we have questions for Master Inuyasha before we make our final decision." The Lady of the House of Holy Demons growled out as she took note that her niece was not amongst them.
"We are not leaving and you best understand that, we stay together and you have already gotten the chance to question us all. Now is not the time for questions but for discussions." Rin growled out in anger as she pulled her sword free from her side.
While Sesshomaru approached his father he trusted his brother to protect his mate as he went on to add, "You know that we do not lie father, you know that we have a right by demon law to create our own packs outside of the clans. Others have been granted and allowed to exercise their right to do so; we should not be given a different set of standards just because of who our parents are."
"Be that as it may you are the children of the currently rulers of the Five great houses of Japan. You have no such rights to use, while we do apologize and wish we could offer you more, there are no laws that protect you or your 'pack.'" Sango's father's calm and even voice was heard explain.
"Enough, that is enough, you all will leave the hall expect for the young Lord and I will question him as I see fit, any that wish to ignore my order will be forcefully moved out." The Lady of the House of Holy Demons growled out.
Before Miroku or Inuyasha could say a word, they were on their guard as the girls quickly set to work and began to stop the throwing needles and the daggers that were begin thrown at the group. As Rin continued to protect her mate and her brother, Sango turned to her husband to make sure that he was able to hold his own before she moved to south end of the room so that she could close the doors to prevent any more guards from entering the room. Quickly catching on to what her friends were doing, Ayame had moved to the east end to stop those that followed the enraged Lady of the House of Holy Demons while Rin had began to make her way toward the center of the room. Just as Inuyasha had turned around to order his sister to stay by his side while his brother began to transform to fill the hall with his aura, he watched in horror as the demon that had meant to harm him had been pushed and forced to aim his sword at the stomach of his sister.
'No, no, damn it…NO!' Inuyasha thought in panic as he tried to reach his sister only to be thrown back and away from her.
Smelling his brothers panic, Sesshomaru stopped his transformation and turned in the direction of his brother sight only to freeze as his blood froze in place as he realized what he was about to see. Just as the sword was about to dig into his mate, Sesshomaru's raged filled the hall as turned to lock eyes with the Lady that had stood in fear of what had been about to harm the child that she had ordered they not touch. Just as Koga had made sure that Rin had landed on her, Rin looked down at Koga and kissed him on the side of the face as she whispered, "You have no idea how glad I am to see you."
"Thank Kagome, she gave me specific instructions for when I arrived, if I had been just a bit late, even a second, I would not have made it." Koga stated as he rolled them over so that he took the dagger that had been about to harm the pregnant female of his pack.
"I'll be sure to thank her when she shows. When is she showing up by the way?" Rin questioned as she pulled the dagger out as quickly as she could while throwing it back and digging it into the knee cap of the demon that had hit her pack brother.
Before Koga could answer her question all eyes were on the miko that ruled and kept the leaders of the Five great houses of Japan in place as her voice filled the hall. Once all had stopped moving, whether by their choice or by the power the that miko had used in holding them in place, no one said a word as she slowly made her way to the center of the room and locked eyes with used of the leaders before asking, "Who has broken the law and allowed violence to ensure in our hall?"
"No orders were given by the leaders," one of the guards that could still move was heard answer as he locked eyes with the enraged miko, "when I realized that these children were not following their orders I chose to act and gave my men the orders. I alone gave such orders."
"Any other?" Kaede question as the ashes of the demon filled the hall.
When no one else answered, the miko let out a long sigh and replied, "Good, now all of you out, I wish to have speak with the leaders before a decision is made on the matter between the pack of this group and the mate-ship of Lady Kagome and Lord Inuyasha."
"Lady Kaede," Sango stated as she turned to her husband and began to lead the group out of the room.
They all knew that they would have no choice but to listen to the orders of the elder miko. While it was true that she was the grandmother of their friend and the female alpha of their own small pack, they would and could not disobey her while they knew that their friend trusted in her family. Once the hall was empty and after the elder miko had made sure to leave her mark on those that had taken part and attacked the group that were her granddaughters family, Kaede turned her attention to the Lady of the House of Holy Demons, as she heard her say, "I care not of what you are to that child, she is mine and a part of my house, she will not break the laws simply because you will it to be Lady Kaede."
"And just what law do you believe to have been broken? From where I stand no one has given me an answer or an explanation. Furthermore I find it very injustice that I was not called on the moment the truth had been exposed. I am the head miko and I alone can change any punishment or verdict that you may all agree with." Lady Kaede answered in a cold and emotionless voice as she waited for them to speak.
"While we understand that a law was broken, it is also within our laws that we can no keep any mates from one another. It is something that we all agreed upon the creation of this council." Lady Izayoi stated as she tried to find a way to save her sons.
"Again no one has stated or presented me with proof and facts as to the law in question that has been broken." Was all the elder miko had to say.
"The law that was broken Lady Miko is the law that no heirs are to combine or be mated with another house, it would change the power and remove the equality that we have had for centuries with this council." The Leader of the House of Wolves was heard growl out.
"Which two have broken this law? From what I understand the young monk left his own house so that he could and would remain by the side of his wife. The young child that was nearly forced to lose her pup left the House of Power so that she could be at her mate's side and the young wolf demoness made sure to follow her path and took a wolf mate. I ask again, what law has been broken." Kaede stated as she locked eyes with each of the leaders daring them to state or to call her a lair.
Enraged that the miko purposely left out her niece mate ship with the heir to the House of Inu, the Lady of the House of Holy Demons let out a low growl of anger and stood from where she sat and said, "You main to say that you have all of this knowledge yet you think you may keep your ignorance of the fact that your grand daughter is mated to a demon."
"Kikiyo was removed from the House of Power, she is no longer associated with any of the houses as she leave overseas with her mate and his own company. She is within our lands not only for the sole purpose to ensure that the Lord of Power has no problems in his leadership." Kaede calmly explained as she took in a deep breath and looked down at her watch, "However if you wish to states that my second granddaughter has broken the law you stated then let me tell you know that your unaware of the true nature of their mate ship."
"For give me Lady Kaede however we have all seen the mark on my sister and the mark that she herself left on her own make, what is it that you know that we do not." Sota, the Lord of the House of Power asked in a calm yet worried filled voice.
He had not thought that she would side with the court or that she would take her own actions in this matter. He had believed in his sisters and had trusted his grandmother to remain on their side if he had misjudged their decision he could only pray that it would not cost his sister her life. Taking note of the slight fear in the boys voice, the Lord of the House of Inu turned to face the elder miko with cold eyes as he growled out, "What have you done to my daughter-in-law?"
"I see, I am glad to see that you have done right by the council, tell me Lady Kaede when can I retrieve my heir?" The Lady of the House of Power smugly asked.
Before the elder miko could explain or even state what it was that she had done to her granddaughter, Kaede let out a long say as she heard the door to the hall being thrown open by her two granddaughters. While one held the other, all eyes turned to face the two that stood side by side as they heard Kikiyo's enraged filled voice say, "If you think for one moment that you will be taking my sister anywhere you have another thing coming you bitch. You could have just left everything alone, you could have allowed her to live her life with her mate but no, you chose to be greedy, you chose to let your bitterness fill you and now, now you will lose."
"Kiki, that's enough." Kagome's weak and drained filled voice was heard as she struggled to stay standing. 'Damn it grandmother…you could have at least left me a tea or some herbs to help me gain my strength…who knew that it would work so well.'
"Lady Kagome?" Izayoi asked in her own worried filled voice.
"As you can all see," Kagome began to state as she gently urged her sister to let her go. "I am no longer part dragon demon. I am merely a miko with the blood of my mate that keeps me from appearing as a demon. I have entered the hall today to request that my association with the House of Power be ignored so that I may live my life by my mate's side."
"I have come to announce that my grandmother has chosen her heir in me, I will be training for three years time before I take Lady Kaede's place as the elder miko for the Five Houses of Japan." Kikiyo joined in with a smile on her face.
"What has happened? What has been done to my heir?!"
"Your heir is in your belly you foolish demon." Kagome's angry filled voice was heard growl out as she began to pull strength from her mate. "I was never the true heir as the House of Holy Demons never really approved of me. The House of Holy Demons will have their heir, I have chosen my path and killed the dragon in me the same poison that was used to kill the first leader of the House of Holy Demons."
Before any in the hall could say a word against the actions of the girl or the turn of events, all eyes were forced on to the elder miko as they heard her enraged filled voice say, "You all believe to handle matters of this council on your own. It is way you all have proven that it is now the time for the new heirs to take leadership. If you would have come to me with this matter you would have all saved yourself this time. Especially you granddaughter, I have here before me a letter left to be and signed by myself along with the pervious Lord of the House of Power and Lady of the House of Holy Demons."
"Lies! You have chosen a side when you were swore to never choose sides, to already remain natural so that matters could be resolved!" the Lady of the House of Holy Demons growled out in rage.
"Clear your head and focus you foolish dragon." The Lord of the House of Wolves growled out as he extended his hand so that he may be the first to read the letter that the miko presented them with. "Can you not scent the scents and blood mark that the two previous leaders in question left on the letter the miko holds?"
"Would you please read it for us?" The Lady of the House of Taijiya was heard request as she turned to look at the child that had befriended her daughter.
"I will read it; if these are my sister's last words to this council I have the right to read her words." The Lady of the House of Holy Demons growled out in an annoyed but much calmer tone of voice.
"As you wish, here is the letter for you to read, but you should know may Lady," the Lord of the House of Wolves growled out as he locked eyes with the dragoness before them, "should you wish to lie and withhold any information from the letter I will know and you will regret your lies and betrayals."
