Chapter 54
The blonde hardly left the chambers for the next few days, knowing that her father was no longer there for her to talk to, she didn't want to see anybody. Other than Altair and her son, the maids were the only people that she saw.
"Please, mother?" Danor held up his shoes, and pointed towards the chamber door. "Can we go into the town?"
Evangeline shook her head, and turned to look down at the mess Danor had created on the carpet before her. And upon hearing the sound of the door creaking open, she assumed Altair had returned…but there were no booted footsteps. Frowning, she turned around and her eyes widened.
Danor had gone.
The blonde rushed to her feet, slipped her shoes on and exited the room. Her eyes darted down the corridor, and upon not seeing the young boy anywhere, she ran into his room across the hall. But he wasn't in there either.
"Danor?" She called, only to be greeted with silence.
Panic soared through her, and her heartbeat quickened. Evangeline took off down the corridor, calling for her son.
As she stepped outside the citadel, she breathed a sigh of relief upon spotting the young boy. One of the Novice's had stopped him from entering the ring and disturbing his father who was in the midst of combat with one of the other Assassins.
As Altair finished the battle, he stepped out of the ring right away to lead Danor away from the fighting.
"What is he doing out here unattended?" He asked as soon as he stepped in front of the blonde, golden orbs blazing.
"He ran away." She stated, meeting his gaze with her own. She felt eyes on her, and looked just past her husbands' shoulder to see the gatekeeper looking right at her.
As she looked towards the main entrance to the citadel, she felt tears spring into her eyes when she could see how angry he was, "He wanted to come outside." Her voice shook as she tried to stop her tears from falling.
"I'll take him around the town." Altair stated, glancing at the gatekeeper from over his shoulder. "Go back inside."
Evangeline did as she was told, and the young boy looked up at his father curiously, "Is mother not coming with us?"
Altair looked down at the little boy and shook his head, "No." He turned and began walking into the town, occasionally looking over his shoulder to see if Danor was following him. As soon as the little boy realised that his father wasn't going to stop and wait, he ran to catch up with him, and grasped the ends of Altair's robes to pull himself forwards, and catch up.
"And what have you done to upset the woman now?" Abbas smirked as the Master Assassin walked close enough to hear him.
"If my son wasn't standing here, I'd choke you within an inch of your life." Altair growled, pausing to glare at the gatekeeper.
Abbas looked down at the little boy, "I wonder if he'll be as arrogant as his father, when he's older."
Altair said nothing more, simply continued walking, "Danor." He called, to ensure his son was following him.
As Evangeline finished brushing her hair, she looked up as Altair entered their chambers. It had been an hour since he had taken their child into the town, and the blonde was very happy that he had done so – having missed their training session after Danor had spent two hours in the library with the old Rafik.
"Thank you for taking him." She said, watching as Altair donned his weaponry onto the dresser.
He nodded his head once, "That's alright." The Master Assassin made his way towards the blonde once he was done, and placed a hand on her shoulder to turn her to face him, "The Scholar will be coming tomorrow with your fathers Will."
Evangeline nodded her head before riffling through her dresser to find herself a nightdress. "If you're not here…" She began, "I will read it without you."
"I wouldn't expect you to wait." The Master Assassin responded, taking a seat on his side of the bed to remove his boots. "You're not very patient."
