Her silver grey eyes opened and she stood up out of bed, shoving on a long white robe and some slippers before running down in the direction of the chaos, skidding to the room furthest away from hers across the hall which was actually the library. Serving girls all stood outside weeping as many guards held them back but automatically let Christie through. When she saw what she saw, her eyes grew wide and they glossed over which tears, Christie no longer caring what front she was putting on. Laying there lifeless in Odin's arms was Frigga, a large dark red stab wound bleeding out. Christie was stunned as the noise of the wailing somehow didn't matter anymore, her vision was blurry and around her she saw Thor throw is Mjonir after the invaders in rage, Jane looking pale and tearful, Jen in the far corner of the room curled up into a ball and sobbing into her knees. Christie herself took three deep breaths and tried to pull herself together but on the third breath just burst into tears. Tears - hot, thick salty tears. Tears for Frigga, tears for her family, tears for meeting Loki earlier, tears that she held back whilst still a child from being ignored, being pushed aside, tears from when she assumed Coulson died, tears from when she was told that her father died, tears from when she was told that her sister died, tears of rage that she felt when Delilah and Ren abandoned her on Earth, tears of relief and joy from when she saw Loki again in the glass prison, tears of hurt when she was told she couldn't join the same school her sister went to because she wasn't gifted enough, just pretty much all of the tears that she had ever felt but never released. And it scared her.
The funeral was to take place that evening, but Jen and Christie decided to have a cup of hot lemon and kiwi tea first to soothe themselves a little better. Christie was still shaking from the tears experience earlier. "Do you think she died in pain?" Jen asked quietly.
"I'm really not sure why you're asking me," Christie said slowly, not moving her steely grey eyes.
"Because you're an assassin," Jen said simply, cradling her mug. "You're used to it." Christie gave a bitter laugh.
"That's right, the assassin that never got anywhere because times like these she was needed the most and she couldn't be there! Brilliant." Jen didn't say anything but just kept her eyes on Christie suspiciously as she sipped some more of her tea. "Judging from the wounds it wasn't painful, just quick," Christie muttered lowly, hating herself for even giving the answer.
"When you first came into Asgard you weren't easy to talk to," Jen admitted, pushing her mug to the side for a second.
"Yeah, those were good days," Christie agreed. "And don't worry, those days are coming back."
"That's not what I was saying!" Jen snapped.
"I don't care what you were saying! You're right! I wasn't easy to speak to and look, I am more than happy to go back to it because it did what it needed to do!" Christie shouted.
"Which is what? Being a cold hearted?"
"Doing the job!" Christie yelled. "The one woman who could control me is gone, so I don't need to be controlled anymore okay? Jen I don't need you to take Frigga's place, I remember everything she told me so I don't need you to remind me of what she said!" With that, Christie stood up and ran out of the room.
The funeral was beautiful. Christie stood one level behind Thor and Odin. Her status had been put considerably higher so the fact that she was standing with Thor and Odin along side Jane was a blessing. She watched the coffin be carried in and she almost felt her heart jump into her throat, in all the times that she had experienced death, never once had she experienced a funeral. She wore a long black dress, her silver white totally straight and curtained her face. Jen stood one behind her with the other heads of the palace, who would originally be Ren and Delilah but obviously they were still on Earth. It was a beautiful atmosphere - so sad yet so peaceful. Christie was given the honour of firing the first arrow, due to her now obvious weaponry skills and also because Delilah, who was the head of weaponry, was no longer around. Christie took a deep breath as Frigga gently floated across the water, lifted the bow and with one unsteady breath and with one single silver tear sliding down her face fired the arrow so that the coffin caught fire, hovering her hand over her mouth in horror as the rest of the arrows followed suit and Frigga's burning coffin lifted into the air before falling over the large waterfall. Thor saw Christie's distress, remembered that this was all new to her and put an arm around her, holding her in a brotherly comforting hug, finally allowing her to attempt to bite back her tears in his * chest as Frigga turned into a brighter white star, joining the rest of the galaxies' skies.
What was now bothering Christie was not only Frigga's absence, but also Loki's. Had anyone even told him yet? Even if they had, how was he taking it? The palace had been so different without her and Christie only recently found out how she died anyway - Dark Elves came here to get Jane's Ether. No wonder Sif and Jen were permanently moody, if Jane never arrived, perhaps Frigga would've been alive. Christie didn't like to blame Jane's arrival on her death though, because she knew the feeling. However, behind her back, Thor was planning something. He had called his closest friends to discuss the plan - this was Sif, Christie, Fandral, Volstagg, Heimdall and Jen, in a dark room at night. "Any reason we're here?" Christie asked suspiciously.
"We must move Jane off this world," Thor began.
"Good luck with that," Jen blinked.
"I don't know if you've noticed but the Bifrost has been shut down and the Tesseract may or may not have been shut away in a vault," Sif frowned.
"There are other paths off Asgard...ways only known to a few," Heimdall muttered.
"One, actually," Thor winced. The silence was unbearable as it clicked onto whom he was talking about.
"No," Volstagg suddenly groaned.
"No," Jen refused automatically.
"But..." Sif began. "What makes you think he will willingly come with you? After all of this, why would he? It's been a few years."
"Because he'll have an incentive," Thor then turned to Christie, who gave a dry laugh.
"YOU'RE HILARIOUS, you really are. There is no way neither on this world nor the next that I will come and get Loki out with you!" she exclaimed, anxious already.
"I don't think that's a good idea," Jen tried to warn them. "We went to see Loki a whole ago, and as soon as they locked eyes with each other, everything started shaking and the lights began to flicker and it was chaos, it's not safe!"
"Why did that happen?" Fandral questioned Thor.
"Because they hadn't seen each other in so long, it was just their minds reconnecting," Thor explained darkly. "It should be fine after that."
"I don't know if I let him connect," Christie said quickly. "I mean I'm not making excuses but-"
"Look if she's too scared to do it then I will," Sif interrupted. Christie's competitiveness got the better of her and her eyes grew dark.
"No you will not," she overruled Sif.
"No you won't," Thor agreed. "We need you for Jane." Christie couldn't help but smile smugly at Sif's shocked and irritated reaction to this.
"Sorry about that," Christie whispered patronisingly, rubbing Sif's arm in mock comfort then turning to Thor. "Fine, I will go. But I'm warning you, it may not be too easy."
"I'll be there with you, what's the worst that could happen?"
HELLO!
Honestly cannot wait for you guys to see where this story is leading to – don't worry, when Christie's time in Asgard is up (which is fast approaching) she is called somewhere else, somewhere darker…HYDRA.
