Future Shot 2: SOS

BellaTesoro asked the question. Here's the answer.

The container of Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk ice cream rolled across the back of the SUV as Bella stowed the last bag of groceries. She grabbed the pint of frozen heaven and restored it to its proper place, with the other five containers, tying the top of the bag closed. The store was running a two-for-one sale, and who ever had enough Ben and Jerry's? Bella pressed the remote and the rear hatch door glided closed, the solid sound of the lock engaging reminding her of the German engineering that spoiled her on a daily basis. Backing out of the space her phone rang. Rose.

Rose was so busy now; Bella missed the days when she'd drop in for a quick chat or to play with Mackayla. If she was calling during work hours it had to be something serious, so Bella pulled back into her spot, to the disappointment of the guy in the minivan behind her who laid on his horn, and she answered the phone.

"What's up Rose?"

"I need you to do something at my house, right away."

"Okay. I have a car full of groceries; I'll just drop them off at home then—"

"NO. It can't wait. I'll buy you new groceries."

"O-kaaay. What's going on?" Bella couldn't imagine what was upsetting her usually unshakable sister-in-law.

"Esme was supposed to have all the kids over for a sleepover. She's picking them up from soccer camp, but Olga called and said Esmes' basement is flooded."

"So, you have a plumber at your house?"

"NO," Rose really sounded panicked at this point. She was almost squeaking. "Emmett and I were planning a-a- a date night. And I left some things out. Now Esme is bringing the kids back to our house and THEY CAN NOT SEE WHAT'S IN MY ROOM!"

"No need to shout, I'll go right over."

"You're a lifesaver. At the end of my walk-in closet, there's another closet. Second row, three in on my shoe rack, under my sapphire blue Jimmy Choo's there's a button. Press it and the door will open. Shove everything back—"

Bella could hear someone say, "Doctor Cullen, the team is waiting."

"I've got to scrub in. Hurry, they'll be home in twenty minutes. I owe you." The line went dead.

What did Rose have out? How bad could it be?

~TSFS2:SOS~

Bella drove, remembering another phone call, just before Mackayla's first birthday.

"Bella, I have two pizzas and Emmett," Rose was driving, talking on her Bluetooth, Bella recognized the background shush. "Could we come over?"

"Sure, you don't have to ask…uh, scratch that." Bella remembered a little tryst on the balcony a few weeks ago. She'd barely covered up before Emmett's voice boomed out asking where everyone was. "Thanks for calling ahead."

A few minutes later Edward answered the door, looking over his brother's shoulder as Emmett walked in with the pizza. "Em, what's with that red beast you're driving? You becoming a fireman or something?"

Overhearing her husband, Bella looked out the kitchen window. A huge, bright red SUV was on the driveway. Bella had seen Cadillac Escalades before, but this vehicle seemed extra long.

"Not exactly." Emmett, followed by Rose carrying two bottles of wine, went to the low table in front of the fireplace. Emmett sunk back into the plush leather sofa, his hands clasped in front of him. Rose perched on the edge of her seat, knotting and unknotting her hands.

Setting down the glasses and plates she brought from the kitchen, Bella said, "What's up? You two look like you're waiting for the principal."

Rose looked up at Edward and Bella. "We need you to tell us if we're crazy."

"That's easy," Edward smiled, "My brother, one hundred percent. And you married him, so draw your own conclusion."

Neither Rose nor Emmett laughed.

Bella sat next to her sister-in-law. "What's up Rose?"

"You know we've been working on finishing the house."

Bella nodded. Rose and Emmett had been building their house since before Bella and Edward met, with the intention of filling it with their children. After Rose's miscarriages, then the adoption attempts that fell through, they'd given up; they even considered selling the shell of the house as it was. About a month ago they mentioned that they'd hired a contractor to build out the interior and that it would be done before summer. Knowing it was a sore subject, Bella never asked why they decided to complete the project now.

"Before you got to the courthouse on Adoption Day, we talked for a long time with the Varners, the family before you with the two boys." Rose rolled her hand, anxious to speed up the story and get to the point, even though she was the one talking. "They're in a foster family support group, and they were telling us how the older kids get, the tougher it is for them to get adopted—"

Emmett leaned forward, "And it's harder for kids who have a couple of siblings—"

Rose cut him off, "And sometimes siblings can't even live in the same foster home, and if one has special needs—"

"It's even tougher to find a foster placement together, let alone adoption." Emmett voice was getting louder. "And the Varners knew a family that fosters two girls, and their brothers are in two other homes."

Rose looked like she was going to cry. "They haven't spent a holiday all together in three years, and they haven't spent more than twelve hours together in four years. Four years!"

"One of the boys has special needs, and he hasn't lived with any of his siblings in two years." Emmett paused. "His name is Everest."

Edward's eyes widened, and Rose nodded, her lips tight together. Bella was confused until Edward touched her arm, explaining. "Years ago Emmett said he was going to name his first son Everest."

Bella gulped, feeling the tears start to form at the corners of her eye. "Oh my God…you've got to adopt them." Remembering the oversized vehicle in the driveway, she asked, "How many kids are we talking about?"

"Six."

"Six?"

Like a proud mother already, Rose told them about every child, from Abigail, the oldest at fifteen, down to Evan and Everest, twins and the youngest at eight. They'd met them all informally by visiting the foster families.

Edward filled his glass to the brim with wine and drank half of it in one swig. "That's my brother, go big or go home."

~TSFS2:SOS~

No doubt a pack of kids live here, Bella thought as she parked next to a couple of bicycles on the driveway. She kicked a basketball out of her way and towards the regulation half court.

Walking across the wide wraparound porch of the yellow, white and green neo-Victorian house, Bella could see the flags from the golf holes that Emmett had installed once he learned that Everest was interested in the sport. Two full sized soccer goals were on either end of the back yard; all the kids played, and Edward and Emmett scrimmaged here with their adult team. The pool was completed last fall, there was a climbing wall to and a zip line from the tree house; it was a kid wonderland.

Although they'd exchanged access codes and keys long ago, Bella still felt odd walking into Rose and Emmett's house. There was a little echo as she walked across the tiled kitchen floor to the back stairs. That's what's so strange…the house being quiet enough that she could hear the echo. From the thundering of cleat clad feet, to piano scales, to the nanny rounding up everyone for homework, and of course Emmett, their home was never this still.

Up the stair case, Bella smiled at the goofy portraits of the four boys and two girls taken on 'Gotcha Day', the day all the adoption paperwork was approved. She hurried past the twins' bedroom, jerseys hanging off their loft beds.

The first night the kids slept over, Rosalie called her at ten pm, crying.

Bella thought something was wrong when she heard Rose's voice cracking. "Honey, what's wrong? Are the kids all right?"

"They're great." Rose paused, "They're all sleeping together on the floor in the twins' room. I just…"

Bella had held the phone while Rose cried, overwhelmed that their dream of having a family was finally coming true.

Enough with the memories, Bella thought as she hurried down the hall, they'll be home any minute.

She'd seen the imposing dark wood four poster bed in Rose and Emmett's room before, the sage bedding and pillows. What was new? A burgundy leather vaulting horse, similar to the kind used at gymnastic meets. Bella wasn't sure what exactly Rose and Emmett did with the thing, there were handles and D rings on both sides, it appeared very sturdy and well padded. Luckily it was on wheels. She pushed it towards the walk-in closet door but it wouldn't budge. She bent over to unlock the wheels; this time it moved.

Rose's closet was a thing of beauty, clothing precisely organized by season, item and color. Rose had confessed that even if the rest of the house was falling apart, if her closet was in order she could deal with it. Hanging by the floor length mirror, ready to be donned, was a red leather and metal garment with two tasseled cones to cover the obvious, straps, chrome studs, and a triangular leather plate that would cover the pelvis area. Bella wondered why there was a hole in the center, it was too high—then she saw what was on the dressing bench. A long, thick, black…okay, she totally understood why Rose wanted her to do a quick clean up.

The shoe rack was taller than Bella. Under the row of black stilettos was the row of blue shoes. She lifted the sapphire pair and pressed the hidden button. Just like in the movies, the shelving unit pivoted, some lights went on automatically and the secret closet was revealed. Bella didn't have time to appreciate how cleverly it all worked. Shoving the vaulting horse in, Bella went back for the red leather ensemble.

Still wondering how all the straps fit around Rose, Bella flung the leather contraption over the vaulting horse and pushed the whole mess all the way into the second closet. Back in the main closet she grabbed the pair of red, thigh high boots that laced up the back, and the heavy silicone sausage that was on the bench. Shaking her head she tossed them into the closet.

Better check the rest of the room. In the attached bathroom was an Emmett sized black face mask, black leather wrist cuffs and what looked like an over sized studded dog collar. There was also a belt kind of thing, with straps meant to go around she didn't want to guess. Not wanting to touch anything that may have touched her brother-in-law's private parts, she pulled a bath sheet off the holder and collected the items, gathering the towel into a bundle and running to the secret closet.

Hurrying back to scan the bedroom, she gathered up the red candles, the bottle of massage oil, and the riding crop from the bed. Back to the closet, she dropped her load on the floor.

Pretty sure she'd gotten everything; Bella took a moment to look around. Whips, paddles, straps, handcuffs, masks, harnesses, crops, feathers, and other implements were arranged as if it this were an exclusive adult shop. More costumes, heavy on the leather, in black and deep green were hung in one section. A chest of many narrow drawers called to her. She pulled the top drawer open quickly; garters and fishnet stockings. The next down, tiny thongs in lace, sheer fabrics, mesh and of course, leather. One more; she could see where the silicone dildo went, there was a space between a ribbed purple one and a swirled glass one.

She had enough. She knew Rose and Emmett had a lusty sexual appetite; there had been plenty of hints over the years. She never thought they went quite this far. Thinking of them using the things in the closet made her want hand sanitizer. Why is it when you're having sex yourself, it was okay, but thinking about someone you know doing it has a certain squick factor?

She heard voices and feet and doors slamming. Hard to mistake the arrival of Rose and Emmett's brood. She pushed the shoe rack to conceal the closet, but it wouldn't move. She found the button again and pushed it; nothing. She pushed it twice, three times…it didn't budge. Plan B. Looking around the family friendly closet, Bella spied Rose's gowns, all nestled in long fabric dress bags. She took two, hanging them on the bit of door molding. That concealed the top of the doorway pretty well, but Rose's kinky boots were still visible.

The sound of kids tromping up the stairs made her realize she was out of time. Closing the family friendly closet door behind her, she made it to the bedroom door as Everest came around the corner. He gave her a hug around the waist, then pulled back, signing, 'Aunt Bella, what are you doing here?'

She signed back, but also spoke while facing him. He was a pretty good lip reader, but Bella knew he was more confident communicating in sign language. "Your mom had an emergency surgery and she wanted me to get her something." She hated to lie to the boy, but telling the truth was not an option. She had a brilliant idea. "I have ice cream in the back of my car. Do you think you guys could eat it before it melts?"

Everest gave her a high five, stopped in his room to tell Evan, and the two of them clomped back down the stairs. She was pretty sure they were going to ruin their dinner, but it wasn't her issue. She just needed to lock the door…

"Bella?"

Esmes' voice floated up the stairs.

Sighing, Bella leaned against the door. "Up here Mom."

Bella waited as her mother-in-law climbed the stairs, trying to think of a convincing story. When Esme appeared, her eyebrows raised, Bella started to babble. "Rose said I could borrow a dress, and to come over but her bedroom's a mess and she wanted to make sure I locked the door."

Tilting her head, Esme said, "Really? Then I'll go in and straighten up for them. They work so hard."

"NO." Bella spread her arms behind her on the doorway, blocking Esme's path.

Crossing her arms, Esme stood in front of Bella. "I don't mean to pull rank here, but I am Emmett's mother. I've seen his dirty boxers and socks a time or too."

"Rose said to leave it, just leave it the way it is."

Bella had never lied to her mother-in-law, even about her kale casserole recipe. She could feel Esme staring her down, trying to break her. The woman had raised two of the most charming men on the planet; someone had taught them how to influence people. Bella was afraid she'd have to physically block Edward's mother from getting in.

Esme tilted her head. "Does this involve a pair of blue shoes?"

Bella's eyes widened. How did she know?

"I can fix this." When Bella stood her ground, Esme leaned closer. "We don't have much time. I know how to close the door."

Bella let her pass, following her mother-in-law, who made a beeline for the closet. She handed Bella the gowns, and removed the shoes. "Hold this button for a count of three."

Esme held the button, and like magic the door swung shut. Bella handed over the shoes and re-hung the gowns.

Laughing, Esme straightened the shoes. "One night when we were babysitting, I wanted to see how this color shoe went with a dress I'd brought. I pressed the button out of curiosity. Luckily the kids were asleep. It took me half an hour to figure out how to close it."

Bella bent over, her hands on her hips, choking with laughter, "Oh my God, I think I'm going to have to bleach my brain, thinking of Emmett—"

"La La La," Esme held her hands over her ears. "That's my baby you're talking about. Let's pretend this never happened."

Down in the kitchen Evan and Everest were gobbling the melting ice cream, each from his own container. "Thanks Aunt Bella," they said and signed.

~TSFS2:SOS~

Back in her car, Bella was about to send Rose a text, You owe me!, but then she erased it. Rose didn't owe her anything. She and Emmett had been loving and supportive in so many ways from the very beginning. She considered typing, 'Mission Accomplished' or 'Your Secret is safe,' but in the end her message contained only two words.

Nice Boots.

A/N: BellaTesoro's question was:

Does Bella ever find out how kinky Rose and Emmett are?

I am honored that "Tequila Sunrise" was just added to the TwiFanfictionRecs library,

which is a very dangerous place. You can find all kinds of completed fics there; ones that have been pulled, published, containing a particular type of Ward…It's a great source. They also made a beautiful banner for Tequila Sunrise starring Daddyward and Mackayla…I was quite touched!

And I neglected to properly thank the only sister-in-law that I trust to read my fanfic, the 'fun-sized' one. Knowing she is out there waiting has spurred many a late-night of editing! Love you Sis!

There will certainly be one more future-shot, it's already shaped in my mind, but beyond that I don't know. Other projects are waiting. Thanks for reading, reviewing, and caring about these characters. I appreciate all your kind words. This one is not Beta'd, all mistakes are mine.
