Oliver Cromwell: Leader of the English Parliament whose innovative weaponry and cavalry skills played a major role in the English Civil War.

Vs.

Duke of Marlborough: Inspirational Brit whose military might and harmonic deployments at Malplaquet made him a legend of modern warfare...

"This is our masterpiece of any matchup before both changed the course of history and approaches to modern warfare. On with their tactics were going to look at Cromwell's Surprise Cavalry Charge at Dunbar against Marlborough's Harmonic Onslaught at Malplaquet." Mack said.

"We also have to consider physicality both a nearing 60, as well as their tactics and generalship both were great tacticians and generals I can't wait to see this fight." Dr. Dorian said.

Special:

Gunner's Stiletto v. Dirk Dagger

"The Gunner's Stiletto was the universal tool for artilleryman or musketeers alike it was used to clean the bores of guns and was also used a weapon at 14 inches long and weighing in at approximately 6 to 7 ounces." Dave Baker explained.

To test the Stiletto our team of experts set up a single Ballistics Gell Torso, the Cromwell expert is given one stab to the torso and one shot to the head. Once Geoff gave the count down the expert thrust his stiletto into the targets ribcage. He proceeded to push the torso backwards knocking it off its stand he grabbed the target by its shoulder and he drove the stiletto into the target skull. "Your first strike broke one rib and pierced right into this guys heart which is an instant kill, the second shot is obviously a kill you broke through the skull and pierced into the brain this guys dead two time over." Dorian said.

"This Dirk was the ornate and ancestral icon of the Scots and was used by the Scots in Marlborough's army it had everything a Scot loved slash and stab very simple and deadly it was 18 inches long and weighed under 1 pound." Dave Baker said.

To test the killing power of the Dirk another Gell Torso is set up, the Marlborough expert is given one slash and stab to the chest and one shot to the head. Once Geoff gave the go ahead the expert swung his Dirk cutting deep into the targets stomach. The inverted his grip and slammed his Dirk into the torsos stomach. He in-inverted and slashed the target across the throat. "First off you cut deep into the large intestines which would be a delayed kill cobbled with that thrust increased the carnage exponentially thats a kill. The next blow cut the Carotid Arteries' and Jugular vein another kill shot." Dorian explained.

After testing each weapon which do our experts give the edge? "I'm really torn between the two the stiletto causes more damage while piercing whereas the dirk has the slashing capabilities." Geoff said.

"Got to give it to the weapon that allows for greater versatility the Dirk has the range and has more options, edge: dirk." Dr. Dorian said.

"The stiletto gets my edge it has the greater piercing power and can go between the ribs and gain access to the heart which is always the best way to kill, edge: Cromwell." Mack said.

EDGE: Even

Coming up Mack dissects each generals brilliant battlefield tactics. Later histories greatest improvements to one of the greatest black powder firearms takes on a musket with a revolutionary firing mechanism. Then these two generals swords clash in fierce cavalry and infantry test. All to determine who will be the Deadlier Warrior...!

Tactics:

Surprise Cavalry Charge v. Harmonic Onslaught

"What was Cromwell's approach to warfare?" Mack asked the Cromwell expert.

"Cromwell was an expert with cavalry and knew how to use it to his advantage against the Scots with no better example of these cavalry skills then Dunbar." the Cromwell expert explained.

"In early September 1650 Cromwell's army was weakened suffering illnesses and demoralized by the lack of success against the Scots. Cromwell set up camp on a hill side of Dunbar his most important and only advantage was his cavalry. As the Scots advance on his weakened army they stop in a ravine, Cromwell used this break to his advantage he sent his cavalry on their right flanks stunning the Scots later in the night Cromwell redeployed a large mass of his army on the opposite of the Scottish right flank. As the battle raged longer the English cavalry under the command of Cromwell began to cry 'the Lord of Hosts!' as they launched a full forward assault on the Scots weakened right flank which ultimately shook the Scots and lead to his second victory at Dunbar." the Cromwell expert said.

Then Mack turned to the Marlborough expert and asked him what his approach to warfare was?

"Marlborough and his ally were amongst the greatest allies in history before Mussolini and Hitler. They were very precise and knew how to lead a more organized army with only example of his 'harmonic onslaughts' at Malplaquet." the Marlborough expert stated.

"In this battle Marlborough and his ally were set up in an encampment, not to far away from Malplaquet. This is where the reputations of John Churchill and Eugene of Savoy were put to the ultimate test the entire battle catalyzed artillery and infantry on each side. However it was the devastating; perfectly timed and combined attacks of Marlborough and Eugene that cost the the Grand alliance grand casualties however the French forces eventually withdrew." the Marlborough expert explained.

"Both of these generals were 'great' Cromwell used calvary, infantry and psychological warfare to defeat the Scots. Marlborough used precise and well timed attacks that cost him great numbers I'm calling this dead even." Mack said.

EDGE: Even

Coming up these two great Brits take aim at each other with two of histories greatest black-powder weapons. Next the swords behind their conquests are put to the ultimate cavalry versus infantry test. Later our team of experts tally each generals ex-factors to determine who is the Deadliest British General...?

Mid-Range:

17th Century Matchlock Musket v. English Flintlock Musket

Since we've seen similar weapons our team reviewed the tests. "The Flintlock is the more modern piece of gear having said that it can not be properly aimed meaning that technology is out of the window, edge: Matchlock." Geoff said.

"I'm still gonna give it to the Flintlock Musket although not that accurate its the more technologically superior weapon and Flintlocks replaced Matchlocks, edge: Marlborough." Mack said.

"The matchlock is the more accurate weapon and the flintlock can't be aimed properly for that sole reason alone edge Cromwell." Dr. Dorian said.

EDGE: Matchlock

Close Range:

Mortuary Sword v. Smallsword (or Colichemarde)

"The Mortuary Sword had a very unique guard which resembled a ribcage, it was double-edged and it had a rather blunt tip giving great chopping capabilities on horseback and piercing power on foot at 32 inches long it weighed approximately 4 pounds." Dave Baker explained.

To test the Mortuary sword our team of experts set up two targets on Stationary foam torso and one mounted ballistics gell torso. Once Geoff gave the countdown the expert charged towards the foam torso swinging his sword nearly decapitating the target. He continued his charge and speared the Gell Torso in the chest, The expert came backward around and barreled towards the mounted target cutting deep into the torsos stomach. "The first target is instantly dead, with the mounted target you speared it through the the chest which is a mortal wound the next strike lacerated the large intestines which would be a delayed kill." Dorian said.

After reviewing the tests of the Colichemarde our team of experts found a unanimous edge. "The Smallsword is purely an infantry weapon the Mortuary Sword is made for cavalry offers more options and is more versatile, edge: Oliver Cromwell." Geoff said said."

"Edge: Mortuary Sword." Mack said.

"I have nothing else to add edge: Cromwell." Dr. Dorian said.

EDGE: Mortuary Sword

Ex-Factor Evaluations:

"First off with generalship both were great generals however Marlborough did suffer many causalities in his military career and Cromwell's men got really irritated by his religious beliefs so we rated Cromwell at a 81 compared to Marlborough's 83. Next up is Physicality and although Cromwell was younger then Marlborough he was very thin so Cromwell was rated at 62 compared to the Duke's 76. Our most important ex-factor is Troop Training and this is in Cromwell's favor his army trained heavily in cavalry, artillery and musketeers Cromwell was rated at a 86 compared to Marlborough's 84 Next is Innovation and this goes to Marlborough because Cromwell wasn't really innovative he used simple and easy tactics and weapons Marlborough on the other hand was complex and had a wider array of weapons and tactics Cromwell at a 79 to Duke's 90. Finally we've got Tactics and this was in Marlborough's favor as well he had greater tactics and fought against a greater armed and more determined so we rated Cromwell at a 74 compared to Marlborough's 86." Robert Daly explained.

"Okay Rob we've got two of the greatest British generals who changed the course of history and modern warfare I really want to see who emerges victorious. Lets head to the sim." Geoff said.

Marlborough: OOOOO

Cromwell: ooooo Øø

Daly clicks the switch and the battle begins in a muggy and battle ridden Irish town were four English Musketeers sent in front of a church as their leader Oliver Cromwell begins to bombard them with the word of God. As Cromwell's musketeers rolled their eyes in response to their leaders lecture one of the Englishman turned around and saw five shadowy figures as they walk over a hill. Cromwell sends his musketeers ahead with their muskets. Two the English musketeers ran ahead of their leader and fired a volley of their matchlocks hitting two of Marlborough's soldiers killing them instantly. (Ø, Ø)

Marlborough: OOO

Cromwell: ooooo

Marlborough calmly ordered his remaining Scots forward with their own muskets and before the two English musketeers could finish reloading the two remaining Scots fired their Flintlock Muskets striking both of the Englishman. (ø, ø)

Marlborough: OOO

Cromwell: ooo

Frustrated Cromwell sent his remaining soldiers up the hill to destroy the Scots and Marlborough as he mounted his horse. Marlborough ordered his Scots to draw their Dirks and they ran towards the two Englishman. As the two sides neared each other one of the musketeers fired his Matchlock musket striking a Scot in the stomach wounding him. Before the Englishman could reload a Scot tackled him to the ground and dug his Dirk into his throat. However his victory is cut short by a decapitating swing of the surviving Englishman's mortuary sword. (ø, Ø)

Marlborough: OO

Cromwell: oo

The Englishman rushed towards the downed Scot and brought his sword down in a two-handed swing which the Scot managed to dodge and shot his Dirk into the Englishman's skull lacerating his ear. Angered the Englishman kicked the Scotsman backwards and swung his Mortuary sword nearly decapitating his foe. Ø

Marlborough: O

Cromwell: oo

However is victory is cut short after Marlborough grabbed him by his shoulder spinning the Englishman around and before he could react Marlborough rammed his Dirk into his throat and pushed his lifeless body to the ground. ø

Marlborough: O

Cromwell: o

Marlborough drew his Smallsword and turned to Cromwell as he charged towards him on horseback. Cromwell swung his Mortuary sword which Marlborough barely managed to dodge. As Cromwell turned around for another cavalry charge Marlborough ran towards a downed Scots flintlock musket and fired hitting Cromwell's horse in the stomach sending Cromwell flying off the back of his horse. Marlborough rushed in and thrust his Smallsword at Cromwell but Cromwell rolled to the side and kicked Marlborough backwards giving him time to regain his fight stance. The two Brits circled each other and Marlborough thrust his at Cromwell's stomach spearing him on his sword. Cromwell growled in pain and brought his Mortuary sword down onto Marlborough's shoulder sending him to knees. Cromwell walked around his downed foe and swung his sword chopping into the back of Marlborough's skull. Ø

Writers Notes: This was much harder to resolve so I just swaged it and the reason I didn't include Artillery in this fight was because it was unanimously give an unfair advantage to Marlborough. This might be the only controversial matchup because it was so hard to resolve. Until next time this is MarleyTucker101 sighing off and saying Live Long and Prosper.
