Chapter 50
Masked nature: Part VII
Collapsing castle
"So, what can we do?" Shura took a step forward. "You know, it's not just Japan which was infected. I think the whole globe is suffering, even Antarctica!"
"We can't do a thing, that's the problem." Mephisto smiled. "To open a portal to heaven you need the power of at least five demons, which is impossible for me. We're stuck in here."
"Then what?"
"Then nothing! Shura, stop your drama! You're dying or living! It all depends on heaven! I don't know what's happening up there!" Mephisto felt really frustrated.
Shura lowered her head, realizing arguing was pointless.
"It's Satan's fault, right?"
"Don't drag him into this. I don't even know if he's alive," Mephisto lied. "It's probably the doing of someone else. The reasons are unknown to me."
"Damn!" She gritted her teeth. "And we can't do a thing!"
"If you can open a portal and win against a demon that can summon space-travelling storms, then yes you can do a lot. But, if you can't, shut up and watch silently," Mephisto rolled his eyes, staring back at the storm.
"And both you and I know that we can't do a thing..."
-o-
Ange slowly opened his eyes. He placed a hand on his face, taking a deep breath. Tharros smiled sadly. "You had me worried..."
Ange bit his lips, looking away. "It was... my fault," he whispered.
"Listen, he's alive... And only you can save him," Tharros held his hand.
"How will I do that?! My healing can't reach him!" Ange gritted his teeth.
"We should just use traditional methods for now. Let's stitch the wound. I have everything you need."
Tharros sighed, lowering his head. "I was able to put everything into place with him. You know; these nerves and all that... His skin is no longer burned. It's that shortly after you collapsed, Behemoth appeared and said he was the one who did that to him. He said he put him into a deep sleep and I don't know the reason. He more or less fixed him but he's still sleeping. His injury is still bleeding so he's in constant danger. We need to do something about it."
Ange nodded. He stood up and grabbed the box with the materials. Tharros showed him Ethan's room. Ange walked in. He stared at Ethan's wound. He lowered his head, trying not to look at the blood. He rubbed his eyes.
"Stay strong, Ange. He needs you. I'm sure he'll be thankful later. He's your friend, right?" Tharros patted his shoulders, standing behind him.
Ange's gaze saddened. "It's true that he saw me as one..."
I'm sorry... I think I can't trust you anymore...
"Even though, I..."
Don't give me that talk! Lisian...
"I didn't consider him as one…"
Please, don't push me to make you an enemy. I don't want to!
"I said so many cruel things to him when we were in that café." Ange gritted his teeth, clenching his fists. "I hurt him, so he ran off and got hit by a car. That's how he got that wound! Even though he was fragile, I showed no mercy! How can I even be an angel, being this heartless?!"
"Ange…" Tharros' gaze saddened.
"I tried to give him my blood, later. He was panting. He was suffering! He was exhausted. He had a huge blood loss. He didn't accept my blood, knowing that I'll be kicked from heaven if he does. He did that for me, yet I…" Ange punched the wall, panting. "I just led him to his death. I'M UNWORTHY OF WHAT HE DID!"
He removed Ethan's shirt and wiped away the tears on his face. He grabbed the alcohol. Tharros stared at his focused expression. He was impressed by how quickly the light angel was able to toss away his feelings and start working with such focus. Ange's gaze went emotionless. "The least thing I can do is save his life," he whispered, grabbing a drugging substance.
Tharros smiled. He moved his gaze to the storm. "You know that everything happening here will affect the mortal world.
Ange's eyes flashed wide. "Rin…"
He grabbed a needle. "Are they in danger?"
"Not before the citadel is destroyed, which is almost impossible," comforted Tharros. "But until there, they will be tormented a little by the storm."
"It's fine, as long as they remain alive," Ange sighed in relief.
He stared at the wound edges. The wound was really large. It extended along Ethan's oblique up to his chest. Ange grabbed a needle and threads and he started stitching. Tharros got him bandages. "Are you okay now, Ange?"
Ange nodded. "I should go to Satan later and tell him not to worry about his children."
"It's impossible to leave with this storm. You're both stuck in here…" Tharros laughed nervously. "So, how we'll provide Ethan with blood, I have no idea…"
Ange started bandaging Ethan's wound. "Even if we bring Satan. Ethan can't take any blood in this state."
"We can always inject him some..."
"Y... Yeah..." Ange stood up. He stood in front of the window.
Tharros stared at Ethan. "Do you think he'll sleep much?"
"Probably..."
-o-
Satan closed his eyes, rolling his head bachwards. Yukio... Rin...
Ignis sat near him. He ran a hand into his hair. He didn't bother his burning skin. He smiled weakly. "Are you okay?"
Satan's eyes watered. He held the rose in his hands. "I sh... should... go to... A... A...ssi... ah..."
Ignis frowned. "What for?"
"My ch... children are," tears ran down Satan's face.
Ignis' gaze softened. "Even in this condition, you're still thinking about others?!"
Satan gasped, blood running from his mouth. "I sh... ould..."
"I'm... I'm sorry... We can't go anywhere. Teleportation is impossible," Locus looked away.
Ignis held Satan's trembling hand. "It's all right. As long as the citadel is safe, then we shouldn't fear."
Satan stood up. He forced himself to walk outside. He found himself in the throne room in the temple.
"Ethan..." He felt someone behind him.
Behemoth emotionlessly stared at him. Satan grabbed him by his collar. "What... h-happe... ned... to... Ethan?"
Behemoth smiled. "Do you want the same to happen to you?" He placed a hand on his cheek.
Satan took a step back. Ignis appeared in front of him. He darkly stared at Behemoth.
"Hah, no wonder! The demon of feelings will get everyone's feelings!" Behemoth smirked.
A red fire burned on Ignis' body. "You can..."
Behemoth gritted his teeth as fire crashed on him. "You can teleport to the citadel, can't you?!"
Ignis grabbed him by his collar. Ilios and Erixi appeared behind Satan. They coldly stared at Behemoth. Ignis' gaze went emotionless. "Answer..." A fire blade appeared in his hand. "I'm hot-blooded, you know?"
"I can," Behemoth smiled. "A shadow can travel anywhere like a phantom."
"That's perfect." Ignis smiled back. A fire chain wrapped around Behemoth's neck as Ignis forced him to stand up. "You'll do me the favour of teleporting all those in this temple out there."
"I'll do even better!" Behemoth grinned. "I'll teleport you where Ethan is..."
Ignis dragged him by the chain and walked to the middle of the room.
He took out a horn and called everyone else. The others gathered around him in a second. Behemoth closed his eyes as a dark aura surrounded him. Shadows surrounded them as they all disappeared.
Ignis held Satan closely, eyes not leaving the shadow demon. He felt really suspicious toward him. But, he had no choice but to gamble on him.
"Satan, let me tell you something..." Behemoth grabbed Satan by his arm. "Lisian isn't the person you think he is. He's dangerous. You can't stay with him."
Behemoth looked dead serious. Satan glared at him. Behemoth lowered his head. "Don't die..."
The shadows around them disappeared as they found themselves in the hallway of the castle. Behemoth sat down. "Go to the rooms in the upper floors. You'll find them there."
Ignis grabbed Satan's hand. "Let's go, everyone!" They all ran upstairs.
Behemoth emotionlessly stared in front of him. He smiled, hearing explosions. "It awakened..."
He stood up as the castle started shaking. He disappeared into the shadows.
Satan stared in front of him, panting. They stopped in the lounge and found nobody. They walked into a hallway and found an open door. They walked in. Locus and Erini smiled brightly. "Archangel!"
Ange glanced at them. "You're..."
Satan stared at Ethan. He sat near his bed and held his hand. Ignis stood near Ange. "That shadow guy teleported us here."
Ange lowered his head. "Ethan..." His gaze saddened. "Ethan is the one responsible for this storm.
Ignis' eyes flashed wide.
"Tharros told me that. He said the only way will be Ethan himself undoing the storm. Either way, it'll destroy everything, heaven, hell and even the mortal world. It'll lead to the total apocalypse."
"Why... Why would Ethan do such a thing?"
"Awakening..." Ange glanced at Ethan. "Ethan, no, Lisian isn't the person we think he is."
Satan smiled, hearing them talk. He placed his hands around Lisian's face. Lisian slowly opened his eyes. He stared at his brother's smiling face.
"Lisian," Satan whispered.
Lisian smiled weakly. A purple lightning danced on his body as thunder growled as strong as ever. Ange seriously stared at him.
The others glanced around, feeling the place shaking. "It's... collapsing?"
"We should leave!"
Satan tried to pull back but Lisian held him, preventing him from leaving. Satan glanced down at him. "We can stay," whispered Lisian. "We can..."
Satan lowered his head. He nodded. Lisian's gaze softened. "Don't leave... Don't hate me... Please..."
"I would never," Satan smiled.
Ange patted Erini and Locus' shoulders. "I need you two."
Erini and Locus stared at him, confused.
Ignis pointed at the falling rocks. "Break these rocks! Don't allow anyone to get hurt! I'll go find Tharros!"
"Tharros went to find Behemoth. Stay here," Ange glanced at him.
Ignis nodded.
Ilios stood beside him. His wings formed into a rounded shaped as the sun appeared behind him. He glared at the rocks as fire shots ran from the sun and broke it. Laser blades appeared in Lapis' hands. She started crushing the rocks. The others started doing the same thing, to make sure none will get hurt.
Everything around them was falling apart.
"You won't... hate me, right?" Tears ran down Lisian's face. He slowly pushed his fangs into Satan's shoulder. He gasped in pain. Satan started caressing his hair. He shook his head. "I won't." His gaze softened. He held bit his brother's arm and bit it, carefully.
Ximera transformed into an inflamed wolf and started crushing the rocks above them. Ignis stared from the window. The storm was getting stronger. His eyes slowly widened, seeing demons appearing on the citadel. "Ah, what's going on?"
"Don't hate me, Satan," Lisian whispered. "Please, don't hate me..."
Meanwhile
Rin's eyes flashed wide, hearing yells from far away. He jumped from the bed and glanced from the window. "What's going on?" He gasped, seeing demons appearing everywhere, in the sky, on the ground and the roofs, in the sea. His eyes widened in fear. "What's going on?!"
Yukio stood near him, only to make the same expression. "Are we being invaded by demons?!"
Rage appeared on Rin's face as blue flames flared on his body. "SATAAAAAAAN!"
Mephisto frowned, his cup of tea crashing on the ground. He stared at the demons moving around like flies. "What's going on?"
"According what you said, the same thing is happening in heaven?" Shura presumed.
Mephisto nodded.
She started laughing. "Perfect! Now we'll be eaten by these monsters?! Oh, really! Perfect!"
Mephisto gritted his teeth. "Prepare the exorcists! We're counter-attacking! We should eradicate all these demons! Get the helicopters! FAST!"
To be continued...
Behemoth warned Satan from his brother. And after Satan and Ethan's reunion, the storm went stronger and demons started appearing out of nowhere in heaven. The situation wasn't different in Assiah. Everyone was terrorized until Mephisto decided to launch an attack.
