Amelia Gilbert

"Beautiful day, ain't it, Gilbert?"

"It was, Courtney, it was."

Deciding to ignore the hint, he dragged out the chair opposite me. He kicked his filthy feet up on the chair beside me and threw his hands behind his head. The leading dickhead at our school used to intimidate me. Unfortunately for Courtney here, dealing with vampires, werewolves and Amy Bradley had really toughened me up.

I was very aware of his friends all standing around watching not too far away with matching grins.

I shouldn't even be here for Courtney to annoy in the first place. I was the one who told Damon that Liz may be sussed, but instead of allowing me to lead the mission, he sent me away! I was now forced to watch from a distance and I was not happy about it, especially with Courtney deciding to become bothersome. As if I didn't have enough nemeses' already.

"Decided to bring the cleavage-" Before some ridiculous comment that would earn him a slap around the face could even come out of his mouth and without even looking his way, my hand shot out and placed a finger in front of his lips. I was trying to lip read Liz from afar as she spoke to Damon which was very hard to do with Courtney in my ear trying to get a rise out of me. I don't know why Damon threw me off the case. I was standing behind him being subtle as anything when he reached round and unreasonably, inexcusably pushed me away.

I squinted my eyes trying to read Liz' facial expression when I felt wetness slide up my finger.

"What the-" I brought my hand in front of my face. It shined with salvia. I stared in absolute disgust from my hand and then at a smirking Courtney. "What in God's name is wrong with you?" I wiped it vigorously on his leg.

"Wahey, can't help yourself can you, Gilbert?" He taunted as I was forced to touch him.

"You could have a disease!"

"Amelia." He laughed and brought his feet down and rested his elbows on his knees. "Why are you so mean to me?"

"You repulse me, disgust me," I immediately began listing. "I doubt you wash more than once a week, your mom gave you a woman's name. Do I need to go on?" I shot back and he looked over his shoulder, grinning at his friends. I didn't have time for this. There was a mini war going on at this event and if I didn't keep an eye on it, things could get messy real quick.

Whilst Courtney was distracted, making a V sign at his friends, I took a good look around, made sure there were no witness' apart from his band of baboons, and then tipped my foot under his white chair, kicking it backwards.

I watched in absolutely delight as his chair tipped backwards, his arms flailed out but it did nothing to prevent his fall. I'm sure if his mates were around us I would have gotten all the high fives.

I walked away whistling.

Yeah that's what you get.

I rejoined Elena and Caroline as smug as anything. I really wish I had this new found confidence to deal with jerks like Courtney years ago.

"What's up, friends?"

Elena was painting a table, Caroline was just pretending to paint a table and me, well, I think I've done my good deed for the day.

"Oh oh. Longing looks are being exchanged," Caroline commented.

I snapped out of my replay of Courtney falling back. "What? I wasn't looking at Damon. I don't even know where he is."

"I wasn't talking about you..." Caroline raised her brows and smirked, rotating her paint brush around in her hand. I held her stare and blinked. Maybe, just maybe, she won't read into that. "But good to know." Ah damn. Remember when she was naive and gullible? I miss that Caroline.

I turned my head to Elena. She tried to make it look like she was focusing on painting, but her eyes couldn't help but flicker up at Stefan and vice versa.

I leaned forward. "What a stud, ey, Elena. You should get back with him."

"No she shouldn't," Caroline insisted and nudged me hard. Sometimes I didn't think she knew her own vampire strength. I almost fell right into Elena's paint brush. "What is wrong with you?" She hissed quietly at me.

"What is wrong with me?" I exclaimed. "What is wrong with you? They're the couple of the century! Stefan is a top bachelor. I can only hold off Amy Bradley for so long. She's going through the ex's, Caroline, I'm telling. It's only a matter of time before she discovers Damon."

Ah crap, I hadn't thought of that.

It seemed my Amy Bradley comment had the desired effect on Elena. She put her paint brush down and wiped down her jeans. "I'm going to go talk to him."

"No! Elena! I think it's a bad idea!" Caroline threw her paintbrush down and went to grab my twin, but I quickly jumped up and got in the way. "Mia!"

"Go on, Elena!" I cheered and clapped after her, drowning Caroline's protests out. Even though I knew the fight between Stefan and Elena was just a show for Damon and Caroline, I believe this would be how I would have reacted if I was none the wiser. I would have totally been team Stefan. "Elena, Elena!" I chanted.

Half way to Stefan, Elena stopped and turned around. "Mia, shut up."

"On second thought, Stefan deserves better." He'd never tell me to shut up for starters. The man didn't have a rude bone in his body.

"It's never going to work. Why can't she see that?"

"Caroline, I mean this with all the love in the world." She frowned. "Butt out. Just because you decided to let my dear Matthew go, doesn't mean Elena has to do the same."

"Fine, no one listen to me. I'm just trying to save everyone from future heartache, but whatever."

"Yeah, that's exactly what you're trying to do," I muttered, COMPLETELY forgetting that Caroline now has incredible hearing.

"What's that supposed to mean?" she snapped.

"Um..." I slowly turned to face her. "It obviously means... that you fancy Stefan!"

"For the last time, I don't fancy Stefan. I'm looking out for Elena."

"Ok, ok." Phew, saved that one.

"What's her problem?" Damon made me jump from behind.

"For God sake!" I turned and slapped his arm. "Stop sneaking up on me! I don't like it!"

He laughed because he's a jackass. I picked up Elena's paint brush and took over where she left off, grumbling some very creative curse words for Damon. He stood over me, eying me for a moment before turning his sights onto Caroline.

"Why are you being such a bitch to your mom?"

I paused and looked over my shoulder. Why did he care? He actually seemed like he wanted a serious answer out of her.

Caroline rolled her head towards him with squinty 'don't go there' eyes.

"Don't worry about it." She whipped her hair round so that it hit him in the face. Lol.

Sensing this amused me, Damon pointed to my table. "You missed a spot."

"I haven't started yet," I replied slowly like he was the stupidest guy on the planet. "Idiot." I went to turn back and do some actual hard work when Damon reached under my arm and snatched the paint brush from my grasp. As I spun around to retrieve it, he shot an arm around my waist, pulling me flush against his chest and held the paint brush inches from my face. "You touch me with that and I will kick your ass so hard that you won't be able to feel a thing in the morning."

"Really?" he said down at me. "You really believe in your own threats, don't you?"

My shoulders deflated. "Can you get off me?"

"No." He loosened his grasp, but he didn't let me go. "Want to sneak off somewhere?"

"No."

He ran his tongue along the inside of his bottom lip. "We could recreate last night."

I saw Caroline's eyes widen.

"He's clearly joking, Caroline," I said loudly, in case Stefan was listening in too. Damon's thumb rubbed along the hickey he left that I had cleverly hidden under mountains of concealer. At least I was sure hoping that was the one Damon left me...

Damon gently released me and handed me back my paint brush. "Are you alright?"

I arched a brow. "...Yeah."

He rolled his eyes. "Why is it so weird that I'm checking to see if you're ok?"

"That's Stefan's job usually." I shrugged and poked his tongue into his cheek. Oh yeah, I went there.

He looked set to reply when he glanced to the side. Towards Stefan and Elena.

When I looked over at Caroline, she was doing the same.

Hmm.

"Are you... are you guys eavesdropping?" I looked between the two. Damon held his hand up at me, signalling for me to be shut up. I slapped his hand away. "That is so unbelievably rude. You can't just listen in on people's private conversations. They're obviously trying to sort out their issues and would rather not have an audience." Damon lifted his chin curiously. I looked over too. Elena and Stefan looked in a pretty heated discussion. I stepped in closer to Damon and cleared my throat. "So... what are they saying?"

Damon snorted.

"What? You're going to listen in anyway, might as well share the goss." I shrugged my shoulders. "So?"

It just figures the one time I decide to join in, we get caught because both Elena and Stefan suddenly looked over. Damon and Caroline quickly looked away whilst I started swiping the table vigorously with the paint brush, only I was so rattled I completely missed the table. I almost painted Elena's bag.

"This is why I sent you away from Liz."

I elbowed Damon. "I need practise in these under cover situations. Something you won't give me."

"Liz wouldn't have opened up to me if you were there."

"Oh like she would have opened up to you anyway?" I scoffed.

"Why were you talking to my Mom?" Caroline spread out her arms.

"We're friends, Blondie," Damon replied without looking at her.

"You don't have friends," I pointed out.

Stefan watched Elena walk away longing and Elena, well, she looked miserable. It was hard to tell whether they were pretending anymore. Maybe this was why Elena always got the lead roles over me. Hm.

"Oh man." I flung my arms up. "They were meant to get back together."

"Relationships are about communication," Damon said, carefully watching my sister and his brother parting. "Something we should do more of."

"Yeah, no thanks." I checked my phone and saw Jeremy had sent me a photo of Amy dancing with Tyler. The woman had a bottle of champagne in her hands whilst her butt grinded into his groin. It was like they knew my brother was taking a photo. Ok I got with his Uncle, he got with my nemesis. Surely we're even now?

"Targets on the move, let's go, partner." Damon pushed my lower back forward. I flung my paint brush over my shoulder, very happy I was being taken on a mission.

"Oh yeah." I put my sunglasses on. "Let's rock. Who are we going after now?" I rubbed my hands together. "Are we going to comfort my good bud, Stefan? Take Liz for an interrogation? Bring in Badass Ricky Saltzman?"

"Nope. Mason." Damon threw out there as he guided me along with him.

Holy shit! I immediately began skidding my feet into the ground.

"What are you doing?"

"I-I I'm not getting into it with Mason. He's a family friend!" A family friend who I MADE OUT WITH! Who... SQUEEZED MY BUM! Oh Jesus, I can't cope.

Damon looked super confused as I tried to go in the other direction. He yanked on my arm bringing me back to him. "I thought you wanted in on the action? I was letting you have your way, Amelia. You should have seen your face when I told you to buzz off from Liz."

"Feelings were hurt, Damon."

"Yeah I know, so I'm making up for it now. C'mon."

"It's ok. You can take this one."

"Mia." Damon stopped in front of me. "What is going on?"

"You just want to antagonise Mason and use me to do it." Ok, yeah, that's a good reason. "You just want to use me let you always do!" I reinforced.

"You still say we don't need to talk?" he said down at me.

I sighed.

"Go stand with Stefan," Damon relented.

I nodded. I don't know whether we will ever get past the whole Katherine ordeal. I don't think I was going to be over it for a very long time.

"Hi, Stefan." I approached. He peered up from his painting and smiled. "You've got some mad painting skills there, Stefan." I nodded down at his table.

"Yeah, thanks. I saw you did some painting yourself." He nodded over at the table Elena had actually done.

"Oh yeah, that was all me."

"It's very nice."

"Well thank you." I patted his back. "I just wanted to let you know that Damon and Caroline were listening in on your conversation earlier, but I wasn't. And not just because I don't have supersonic hearing, but because I respect you."

He straightened up and wiped his hands. "Thanks, Amelia."

"No probs, Stef. Keep it real."

I'd given up trying to get him to call me Mia. It just wasn't going to happen.

Stefan smiled and lifted his chin, searching Damon out, stopping when he spotted Damon with Mason. I don't know how long it would be until I could face Mason again, but it wasn't going to be anytime soon so for now, I was just going to chill out here with Stefan.

Maybe Mason would leave town so I never have to deal with it. That would be the best outcome for everyone especially considering he was not in the Salvatore's good books.

When Mason cleared the area, Stefan and I were on the go. Until Stefan got stopped by another volunteer. It was actually Courtney's mum Sandy and she looked a little too happy to be talking to Stefan, complimenting him on his painting, how his big strong arms must be tired and how she needed someone to do her garden. Shirtless, although she didn't say that her eyes totally wanted it. Wahey, Stefannnnn. What a dawg. Watch out Elena. Hey Courtney, meet your new step father.

Chuckling to myself, I abandoned Stefan and met Damon. What a stallion.

"So, did you make peace?" I asked cautiously, highly doubting the answer was yes.

"We were civil." He cocked his head and half smiled.

I took off my sunglasses and squinted. "I don't believe you."

Damon shrugged like he didn't care whether I did or didn't. "So what is up with this faux drama in Stefan and Elena's relationship?"

"I don't know," I mumbled, barely coherent. I'm pretty sure I have a tell tell when I'm lying so I decided the less I said, the better.

"C'mon." He tilted my chin so I was forced to look at him. I still diverted my eyes. "Elena tells you everything.

"She really doesn't." I ducked my chin out of his hold. "You're really nosy."

He scoffed. "And you're not?"

"Not at all."

"You must know something." He stepped forward, making me have to crank my neck to look at him. "So tell me."

"You're the one who got to hear their conversation." I flung my hand at him. "Not me."

"You're not worried. Why?" He pushed.

"Because unlike you." I placed my hand on his chest, guiding him back from me a little. "Stefan is a nice guy; I know they can work it out. No one stopped liking the other, no one slept with an enemy-" Damon's eyes flashed. "So yeah, they'll be fine."

He stared at me. Long and hard before instantly becoming Mr Chirpy again. "I can be nice, Mia." He turned to the little girl handing out the drinks.

"Would you like some lemonade?" she asked sweetly.

"Thank you, sweetie." Damon said to her, putting emphasis on the word 'sweetie' and took the drink. "See," he said to me, like this prove his point. I rolled my eyes. Oh yeah, because that proved what a standout guy he was. He raised his plastic cup to the little girl and downed the drink, but as soon as he took a sip of the lemonade, he spat it out, doubled over and started coughing.

"Oh c'mon, it's not that bad," I scowled as I took a sip of the lemonade myself. That poor little girl spent probably a long time making this and Damon was spitting it out as if he couldn't bear one single drop in his mouth. "I don't know why you're making a fuss, I like it." It was when he continued to play up that I realised something was wrong, "What's wrong with you?" I asked him and placed my hand on his back. "Did it go down the wrong hole?"

"What's happened?" Stefan rushed over, taking Damon to the side.

"I don't know! He just started making a scene!" Damon glared up at me. "What? You were."

"Vervain. Vervain." He gasped out.

I picked up the lemonade he was previously drinking and took a sip.

"Ohhhhhhhhhh." I let out.

I quickly filled two cups of water and rushed them over to Damon. He snatched it from my grasp and got up, grunting as he walked over to the fence. "It burns." he rasped and took a sip of the water; gurgled it, before spitting it back up. I hesitated but rubbed his back. "I'm going to kill him."

Oh Mason, you idiot.

"Maybe it wasn't him?"

Whoaaa, the evils I just received

"Damon!" I shot up when Damon tried to storm away from us. I grabbed hold of his arm, but he shook me off. Thankfully I had the voice of reason Stefan here to stop Damon from doing something stupid.

"No." Stefan said sternly. Damon shoved Stefan's arms away, but thankfully Stefan matched his strength.

"No more Mr Nice Guy," Damon snarled.

"Oh, like he's been here all along." I threw out there. He glared dangerously at me so I shut up.

I've never thought of that before, spiking his drink with vervain, could be a potential prank for the future, will have to make a mental note of that. Although, they are planning to kill the one who did it….better not.

"Sit, sit." Stefan kept pushing him until he was on the bench.

I stood by nervously, having not seen Damon this pissed off in awhile. Why did Mason have to do that? Stefan was making sure Damon kept in line. What was Mason's plan after that? God sake, this was a mess.

"I'm not listening to more of your 'give peace a chance' crap." Damon hissed, the words practically spitting from his mouth. "He's dead." The nasty sneer on his face showed he wasn't messing about. I looked around, hoping not to see Mason. He needed to be far away from this place as possible. Good thing Damon doesn't know about our kiss.

"Damon, you can't-" I started, but Stefan cut me off.

"Ok."

Damon stopped trying to get up. I looked at Stefan like he was a mad man. What did he just say?

"I don't like it, but he's making threats." Stefan kept his hands firmly on Damon's shoulders, keeping him down, although by merely agreeing with him, Damon had already calmed down a lot.

"You can't be serious," I exclaimed and moved between the two of them. "Stefan! You are meant to be the voice of reason! We can't just... kill Mason!"

Stefan rubbed the back of his neck. "Amelia, he could expose us, we need to put him down."

"But it's Mason!" They didn't understand what this meant. I'd known the guy since I was a kid. He was a huge part of the community. He was Tyler's family.

"All right. Let's do it." Damon ignored me. "The woods, trash duty, come on." He stood up from the bench, I grabbed his arm.

"Damon, stop. That's Tyler's uncle."

He spun around and grasped my shoulder's tightly, "Then I will be sure to make it as painful as possible," he said sternly, looking directly into my eyes. I shook my head. Why does he have to do that? Why does he have to be so cruel? Especially to me, someone he claims to care about. "Do not get involved."

"You're such an ass." I shoved him aside and decided to plead to the brother who actually still has a heart. "Stefan, you can't let him kill Mason."

"I'm sorry, Amelia, but he's not going to stop." At least Stefan had the decency to look torn and sympathetic about the decision.

"It doesn't have to be this way. He's not a bad guy, you guys just all think each other is the enemy!" We were at a standstill. They needed Mason dead, and I understood why, but I would never be ok about it. "There has to be another way, maybe I could talk to him."

"You are not going anywhere near him," Damon said, dipping down to my level.

"I'm afraid I have to side with Damon on this one." Stefan stepped between us, trying to make his brother back off a bit. Jesus, it was like good cop bad cop. The one time Stefan decides to side with Damon. When did Stefan ever side with Damon! Dammit, having Stefan on my side would have made me unbelievably more powerful! Hmm, maybe I could get Alaric.

"I know, shocking right?" Damon said trying to make me laugh, but my face remained with a firm frown.

"What am I suppose to tell Tyler? How am I meant to face him?"

"You don't, you stay away from him, that's the point."

I glared and crossed my arms, "You'd like that, wouldn't you?"

"I would love it." Damon put his hands on either side of my arms and rubbed up and down them. "Mia." I looked down. "Mia," he said more sharply, making me look up. "Go find Elena. Stay with her and like I said, do not get involved."

"I know you're not happy about this, but it needs to be done," Stefan said softly.

"I won't be able to get past this," I warned Damon, my last, desperate attempt to get to him. Yeah I was manipulating him, but a man's life was at stake.

"What? Like Vicky?"

"Fuck you, Damon." I shoved him away from me and stormed off. Stupid bastard. Why did he have to be such an asshole? Why say this things to hurt me and then expect to crawl right back into my bed?

I searched for Elena, not because Damon told me to, but because I think she could be the one to talk some sense into Stefan, more than I could with Damon anyway.

"Twin. We have a situation." I finally found Elena sulking on a hill, far away from the volunteers. Elena suddenly nudged me and I didn't know why until Caroline was a few steps away.

I put my arms around Elena and pretended to comfort her. "Stefan problems," I whispered up at Caroline. "There, there, twin." I stroked her hair. "You're going to get Stefan back, trust me, I know my best friend. Just like I know my other best friend Matthew who'd take Caroline back in a second if she just apologised..."

"You ok?" Caroline asked; ignore me and sitting down beside us. It was worth a shot.

"Nope." Elena replied, focusing on the grass. I think she got her good acting skills from mwah. I trained her well; after all, we did switch places a lot.

"You know, maybe it's for the best," Caroline reasonably put out there.

"It's not for the best, Caroline." Elena snapped, "None of this is for the best." Heck, I think I was scared of her at this point. I shuffled away from Elena, she sighed heavily, "I'm sorry, ok? I don't mean to take it out on you; you're just being a good friend." I was tempted to clear my throat, where was the plural?

"No I'm not," Caroline replied, "I'm not a good friend at all."

I shuffled back in. "What's wrong, Caroline? If there's anything you want to get off your chest-" Like your alliance with Katherine. "Now is the time to cleanse your soul. There's no judgement here."

The moment was ruined. Just before I'm sure we would have gotten a confession, her head snapped in the other direction. "Is she leaving?" I followed her gaze to see her mom on the phone, going towards her car. Caroline got up and started walking towards her. Me and the twin exchanged looks and went after her.

"What's going on?" I asked Caroline. This all looked very normal to me, but I did not like the look on Caroline's face.

"I don't know," she replied, hesitantly. "Something is wrong." Caroline took off in the other direction.

"Where are you going now?" I jogged after her. It was uphill as well. I hadn't stretched for this.

"I need to be able to hear better."

"Don't know if I ever told you this, but Mia+hills=bad" I told her as I panted. Elena pulled me up the last bit. Was everyone amazingly physically fit but me?

"Hear what?" Elena asked her.

"Something's wrong, Elena." She closed her eyes and put her hands behind her ears. Ok I couldn't take much more today. Suddenly her eyes snapped open, "Oh god."

"I do not like that sound of that."

"It's Stefan and Damon."

I definitely didn't like the sound of that. I choked on the word, "What?" because even though he could be a real ass sometimes, I cared about Damon more than I would ever admit out loud.

She took off without explaining herself again! We kept following her until she came to an abrupt stop. I ran into her back. "What is it?"

"They've been here." She knelt to the ground and picked something up.

"What are you three doing out here?" I whipped around to see Mason. We were far away from the volunteer site. There was no reason for any of us to be out here, including Mason.

Oh God, the awkwardness.

"We were just taking a walk…." I said casually, "You know, good weather and all, nice forest." Mason frowned at me. "Ok, Mason, you caught us, we were running away from volunteering. We got bored." That sounds more like me than taking a walk.

"Have you seen Stefan?" Elena asked him. What the hell did she have to go and say that for? He was buying it!

"Yeah Elena, I've seen him," he replied, he then looked at me, "Seen Damon too." Why does everyone associate Damon with me!

"Well, where are they?" My sassy twin demanded.

"You don't need me for that, I'll let your friend here sniff them out," he said, looking over at Caroline.

I let out a loud and awkward laugh, "Mason, she's not a dog!"

"Does your mother know what you are?" I was ignored, as per usual. Typical. No one gets me.

"Does Tyler know what you are?" I shot back at him.

"He does," Mason said back to me, "and I'll be happy to tell her." he said to Caroline.

Caroline raced forward, but Mason suddenly hauled me into him and placed his arm around my neck, "AHHHHH! Mason! What the hell!" I choked, pushing against his hold, but the man was strong. "You used to baby sit me!" We made out! Like, just yesterday!

"Don't be stupid," Mason warned Caroline, "Necks snap easy around here."

"But not mine!" I gasped. "You wouldn't!" I twisted in his grasp. How could he do this to me? To Tyler? To Jenna? I fought for him! "You are so not being invited to any more barbeques!"

"I can take you," Caroline said confidentially and I've got to say, atta girl.

"Wanna bet?" Mason shot back at her.

"Yeah, I do." I flew out of Mason's grasp in the next second and landed on the floor with a thud. The twin raced to my side.

I couldn't believe Mason just did that to me.

"Told you." I heard Caroline say as Mason's back hit the tree with force. The woman was a machine. She kicked Mason in the ribs and threw him into another free until his head hung forward. He wasn't dead, but he wasn't going to be a problem for now.

"Go, go, go!" Elena pulled me up and we took off, stopping when we reached the Lockwood cellar. When Tyler and I were dating and we didn't have a house to go to, he took me down here. Hey, I lost my virginity down there.

Caroline suddenly placed a hand over her mouth. "My mom, she's killing them."

Elena and I didn't even have to think about it, we jerked to get down there, but Caroline hauled us back. "What are you doing? We have to stop her!" Elena wretched her arm away.

"No, I can't! She's going to find out about me," Caroline pleaded desperately, but we didn't have time to argue with her or try and convince her that might not happen. "Elena, Mia!" she cried after us.

We couldn't wait. We ran down there. We pushed the door open, it was so cold. I picked up a plank off wood and held it over my shoulder.

"What are you doing?"

"It might come in handy!" I told her, and it did! A man approached us and I hit him with it. Not enough to do some permanent damage, but enough to get him out the way.

"It's strange how comfortable you are at doing that." Elena whispered to me. I just shrugged and kept it ready for my next victim. We quickly stopped when Liz was pointing a gun at us.

"Elena, Amelia, what are you doing?" she demanded, looking so confused.

"You can't kill them." Elena cried out, "We are not going to let you."

"Yeah!" Elena was then shoved by the man I had just hit. "You just won't stay down will you?" I went to swing it at him, but he caught it in his hand, I tried to tug it out of his grip but he held it firmly. I laughed awkwardly, but then he held a gun up at me, "No need for that! I'm just a small woman."

It was then we heard Caroline. It was kind of like whooshing sound that echoed through the cellar. "What's that?" The man holding the gun at me said.

"You're worst nightmare."

I really hope I don't run into this cop again.

"Who else is with you?" Liz questioned us, her gun following the sound.

Your daughter. We didn't say anything, but a blurry figure went past us all, "What the-" Before the man who stole my plank of wood could answer, Caroline bit into him. The plank of wood fell lovingly back into my hands. Elena and I ducked as shots were fired from the other officers. She went to each of the cops apart from her mom.

Her mom looked like her entire world had just fallen apart when Caroline stepped out of the shadows, the blood of her friends dripping down from her daughter's mouth.

The veins stretched under Caroline's eyes began to shrink.

"Hi, Mom," she said softly.

I ran over to Damon as soon as it was safe to do so and put my arms around him. I didn't even think, I just did it and he looked up at me like this meant something. "Mia," he coughed.

I closed my eyes as I dragged one of the dead cop's to him.

He didn't waste any time and began feeding. Elena was checking on Stefan and Caroline and her Mom were just staring at each other. Neither one of them moving.

I sat on my knees beside Damon, watching him. It didn't feel weird watching him feed. It's almost normal... how weird is that?

"I thought I told you not to get involved." Damon sat up and wiped the blood from around his mouth.

"You don't listen to me so I don't listen to you." I forced a smile. "Anyway, if I hadn't, you'd be dead right now. I think a thank you is in order."

"I took an arrow for you."

"I hit a guy with a plank of wood for you." I retorted.

He squeezed my hip. "See, you don't completely hate me."

I looked away, "Maybe not completely."

I noticed Stefan wasn't feeding. Elena was just rubbing circles into his back whilst he took deep breaths. "You need to drink some deputy blood," Damon told him, trying to push his deputy towards Stefan.

"No." Stefan panted, "I'll be fine, it'll just take a little bit longer." He winced in pain.

"Damon's right, you know, if there was ever a time to break your diet-" Caroline started, but Elena cut her off.

"He said he didn't want it, ok?" She half snapped at Caroline.

"And people say I'm the mean sibling." I scoffed.

"Tell me about it." Damon said. Errr...

Damon pushed himself up and offered me his hand. "This is a most unfortunate situation, two deputies dead, and you-" He turned to Liz, "what am I going to do with you?"

"That's not up to you." I blocked his view of Liz.

"Mia." He grasped my chin with one hand. "Sometimes there's a good reason why I have to play the bad guy."

"You won't tell anyone, will you?" Caroline begged her mom. Liz didn't reply, she was barely able to look at Caroline. "Mom?" My heart ached watching it as I couldn't imagine my mom shutting me out like that. It would have killed me. "Please." Her voice was pleading. "Look, I know that we don't get along and that you hate me, but I'm your daughter and you'll do this for me, right?" Liz looked towards the floor and refused to look up, "Mom, please, he will kill you."

"No he won't." I said sternly, "You won't, right?" I asked Damon. "Damon, I swear-"

"Kill me." Liz sobbed out.

"No!" Caroline cried.

"I can't take this." Liz shook her head. Damon pushed my hand from his front and stalked towards Liz. "Kill me, now."

Damon leaned close to her as she cried, "But you were going to drag it out so painfully." He said tauntingly to her.

"Damon, stop it" I tugged on his arm. "Stop being an ass."

He forced her up and against the wall, "No! No, no!" Caroline sobbed.

"Damon, don't!" Stefan yelled out.

"Damon!" I held onto his side.

Damon looked at Stefan and rolled his eyes, "Relax, guys, no one's killing anybody," he said like this was no big deal whilst everyone else was terrified with what he was going to do next. He was so unpredictable and that was just another reason why we couldn't be together. He went back to looking at Liz, "You're my friend." He released her and looked down at me attached to his side."You should give me a little more credit, Amelia. Sometimes, I do listen to you." I didn't reply. "We've got to clean this up. We've got to clean you up." He tugged at my top which had his blood on it.

Had a burst of inspiration to write Amelia!
