Chapter 54: Times Up
RQ
Sesshoumaru raced through the forest toward the village as quickly as possible. He was so enraged for the sake of his family and pack members. Barren trees and snow blurred past him as he sped with his demon strength through the forest. Darkness reigned with now sight of stars but only the moon watching the outcome of her troubled kingdom. Along the way, bantam fires had ignited here and there but he could see out in the distance the fires raging along with the nights activities. His nose picked up the smell of blood and smoke after reaching the halfway point. Abruptly his demonic hearing could hear distressing noises into the distance. The sound of swords clashing, shrill cries, roars, and beating hearts of battle entered his mind. But he couldn't focus on that just yet. He had to honor his father and find his bitch and the child.
Izayoi. This never would have happened if father would have had a handle on his bitch.' He thought.
He tried to shake the thought away but it remained and continued to mock him the more irked he became. Snarling he sprinted forward to suddenly be struck sideways by a strong force of chakra energy.
Sesshoumaru jumped into the air and skidded to a halt as he landed on the outskirts of a noxious battle before his eyes. He glanced quickly to see demons and humans attacking each other relentlessly. The white snowy field now lay scattered with bodies, blood, weapons, metal, and the accompaniment of the rise of fall of chakra and power erupting into a frenzy of fire burning all over the forest and the giant field they raged war in. Loud battle cries and swearing could be heard mixing with the symphony of metals clashing and various powers being drawn to execute the other. Smoke was now lethal as their weapons causing some men to cough and others to sway to its silent deadly power.
Suddenly another powerful rupture of power rocked the ground beneath him, quivering the earth. He looked back to see his father and Lord Ryu doing combat near the mountains where the ocean beat like a mother chastising her children. Ryu had transmuted into his full dragon form and torrents of electricity erupted in various locations as his father released his own power from his swords. He was in awe at the pure supremacy of his father having only felt him at full aptitude once. It was implausible to say the least. He turned back to the battle before him flexing his claws.
Dante burst through a group of humans suddenly landing on the wet ground trying his best to fight off the men and keep at bay the fires from spreading homebound. His hair sat ablaze on his head as he released a now perfected fire wave onto his opponents. Onso was taking out a few of his own along with Darkenstu. Shugurai was in the front pushing off three men as best as he could without injuring his own kin. Seeing this he quickly jumped into the air flexing his clawed hand and took out the men with poisonous claws. Shugurai watched as the men fell into bits before he looked up to see his lord land softly in front of him. He nodded in thanks before more started to attack them both.
"These humans have been enchanted with something!" Shigurai said aloud as he sliced through another human. "There are so many of them. I believe these are the men from the Lord's lands. Or what's left of them."
Sesshoumaru glanced to see they had indeed been corrupted with dark magic. Their strength had increased tenfold in front of his eyes as they fought with the strength and power of a demon. Growling in annoyance Sesshoumaru began to just rip through them. He quickly picked up a sword that had fallen onto the earth and used it to take out as many humans as possible. Precipitously, a black cloud moving along the night skyline towards them at a fast rate. Its great mass was ominously filled with mischief and evil surrounded by the same eerie mass that the humans were. They came closer and the western troops looked up to see a hoard of weak demons cover the skies.
"Hell…" Dante muttered before jumping up to release an attack to stop them. He hit on target taking out a good portion before they attacked him. Dodging he kept up the pace and eliminated them as swiftly as possible.
Shugurai watched their movement noticing the odd pattern. "They are coming for you!" He yelled and then looked over to his Lord and he turned to slice another opponent with his blue hair moving along with him like a stream of water cascading down his back. Sesshoumaru
Sesshoumaru flexed his claws. "Let them come."
His men watched while others focused on riding themselves of the human army. The rest moved to get into a protective alignment preparing for the onslaught when suddenly the demon hoard stopped. They hovered over the battle area growling and sneering down at them. They slowly began to part revealing a lone figure hovering in the center of them. Both demons looked up to see Jiro come forward with a smirk and gleaming red eyes.
"Lord Sesshoumaru, how I waited for this night." He announced.
Sesshoumaru simply cut his eyes at the foolish Lord. Sesshoumaru was no fool. He could feel a change within Jiro. He could even see the young Lord was now power thirsty and battle bulking. His once pale flesh now sat taut on his muscles with purple and black hues. He donned black clothing without even the integrity of the sign of his grandfather's lands on his attire. His eyes were more sunken into his skull and burned an eerie red color as his demon was exploited to the max. Sesshoumaru simply looked over at Shugurai who began to take out a few more humans. turned his back to the demon and began walking away back towards his original mission.
Jiro frowned and then grew angry. 'How dare he turn his back to me!' Growling he roared. "What's the matter, afraid of my power?" He yelled and released all the demons onto the battle field. Dante and Shugurai made quickly work of holding them off at least.
Sesshoumaru halted in his tracks not once looking back. "You hide behind fabricated power and fraudulence. Such a coward that is not worth this one's time. I only spar those worthy of this Sesshoumaru's efforts."
Jiro hissed. "How dare you make a mockery of me! But it matters not." His eyes smiled knowing where he would have to hit the Inu Lord. "Tell me, is Simone ready for me? I don't want her to wait too long in that pretty little castle of hers."
Sesshoumaru stopped walking. His demon rattled the cage begging to be released to be done with the disgusting demon and to protect what was theirs.
Mine
Listening to his beast he nodded giving in. Flexing his claws he readied himself for battle. Suddenly right before Jiro's eyes, Sesshoumaru flashed from the ground to in his face with claws extended muttering one word.
"Die."
Simone was in a trance like state protecting her home as vision after vision passed through her. She focused on protecting everyone in her home and even the nearby towns as she expanded her force field. She could feel the auras of families running scared of the chaos erupting only a few miles away from their households. Her mind was torn then to the sudden anger she felt boiling in her system. Through the mark she could sense rage from her mate and she couldn't do anything to help him. She just calmed herself and focused on protecting what was hers.
"Please, stay inside." She muttered hoping the people would just develop common sense and stay indoors. The cries of children and mothers holding their young made small tears appear in her eyes as they watched their men run out into the streets and head for a battle that wasn't theirs to fight. Blackness clouded her vision as the same memories from her dream eroded over. This time they were much clearer.
Among the darkness, she looked up to see a great dog stood in the distance howling at the burning town. His massive form sat on what was now a cloud like a god among men. She watched his facial markings and the crest of the moon on his forehead. Inutaishio, she muttered finally recognizing which Lord it was.
She could see everything so clearly. She looked around noticing the snow being eradicated and melting under the weight of the fire spreading like ocean waves. Men were yelling and the sound of war raged its concert into the night. 'This wasn't a dream, it was a vision.' She thought to herself.
The one close will always be the one to watch.
Now she was in front of a great mansion with firing burning its ridges and spilling out of the windows like lava. The doors suddenly were tossed open calling her inside. She hesitated before hearing the sounds of a baby cry. She quickly ran inside the burning structure. Her skin felt hot and her face began to sweat as the house had turned into an oven. She coughed and weaved through the fires towards the sound of a baby. Suddenly a woman appeared running around. She walked up to the woman and turned her face in her hands to see a tear stricken Izayoi. Simone's eyes scanned her body and found a wound on the front of her body.
"Izayoi!" She exclaimed. "You must get out!"
Simone looked everywhere looking for the exit that she'd come from when Izayoi vanished. The cries grew louder and louder in her ears. She quickly ran after the sound. Reaching a closed room she burst into the room and saw the baby lying on the floor surrounded by fire. She ran over to the baby and picked it up carefully realizing it was Inuyasha.
"Protect my Inuyasha!" Izayoi cried from somewhere.
Tears had streamed down her face and she held the baby to her. Her throat burned and the coughs began as smoke filled her lungs. She looked up to see a shadow hover over her. Its massive size revealed a man holding sword in his hand.
"Wake up!" Nicholas roared in her ears. "You are so close!"
"Wake up, now!" Yelled again.
Suddenly she felt something sinister and her eyes shot open glowing white. Takemaru was going to kill Izayoi and the child.
She quickly straightened her posture and flew up, focused on keeping the barrier around their home and stretching it towards the nearby towns. She knew she only had a few minutes to find Izayoi and Inuyasha before she grew tired from focusing on two things at once. She could feel Sesshoumaru was faring well and she could feel his power erupting miles in front of her. She quickly flew to the front when she passed a guard running back.
"Keep everyone safe ok!" She ordered watching him nod and open his mouth to retort then took off before he could say anything further. She was just about to run out when she felt something grip her face.
'Smack'
"Oh My Lady…I've come to check on you!"
She looked down in her hand to see a laid out demon flea in her palm. "Myoga!" She exclaimed looking down at one of the little advisors to her Lord. "You've come to run away?!" She eyed beadily before running with him.
"Oh no you can't leave the palace Lady Simone!" He yelled as she took off into the air. The flea gripped her face tightly with tears in his eyes as she flew off.
Flying up in the air she saw fire in the distance and smoke in various portions of the forest. 'How did they get so close?' She wondered as she landed on the snowy earth now painted with splotches of red. Myoga watched with wide eyes before looking up at his mistress. The night was heavy with darkness yet the moon sat full and huge in front of them all. She stared at it for a minute feeling as if she could reach out and touch it but she had much to do. She shook her head and picked Myoga up and placed him down. "Tell my Lord's I've gone to save Izayoi." With that said she jumped up and raced through the trees leaving him behind.
She ran in towards where she hoped was the mansion with her feet crushing in the snow. She had to save as much energy as possible without tiring out. Suddenly she was knocked over by a powerful force that shook the ground. Skidding in the snow she fell towards a tree gripping its bark tightly for support. Her breath came out in visible puffs with the chill of the winter air getting to her embracing her lungs. Deciding to get another aerial view she flew up and saw the great Inu Lord and Lord Ryu fight in the mountains. She watched as chunks of rock and fallen debris were blasted at the force of their attacks.
Her eyes scanned over and saw a big battle where her mate, clan members, and soldiers were doing battle. She gasped at the power she felt from her mate and Jiro's blows. Electric currents tingled her skin trailing goose bumps in their stead. Knowing he would be upset if caught she hid her aura from him. Flying down quickly to avoid being seen, she decided to make a run for it. She continued to run on her journey passing battles and an occasional demon coming at her with an attack. Suddenly out of nowhere a human came at her with his sword raised.
Pulling out her katana's she met him and pushed him away but he was fast and quickly ran at her. Shocked she met his blow again and parried him off. She got into a defense and began reading over his aura. Dark energy blazed from him. He jumped at her again and she just flew up in the air to avoid his attack. She watched as he looked up at her and then jumped into the air after her. Shocked she punched him down quickly and with a heavy heart she stabbed him in his stomach and withdrew her weapon. She watched his face scrunch in agony before the darkness within him dissipated. Frowning she quickly just flew as close to the ground as she could to avoid others.
With warning she stopped. Touching both feet to the cold substance she scanned around the area. Gripping her kitana's in hand she snuck slowly trying to find the source of her caution. A sharp pain touched her skull when she felt two hands grab her by her hair and flung her into a tree. Her body hit it with such force it splintered into her skin of the palm of her hand as she slid towards the snowy forest floor. Looking up she gasped at who she saw.
"Surprised to see me Koi?"
She gathered her bearings and glared icily at the man in front of her. "You tricky bastard!" She yelled. In front of her eyes was Jiro.
Jiro clapped. "I knew you would come to save your friend. And it looks like my patience and cleverness has paid off." He smiled sickeningly as he eyed her up and down. "Looks like you're out of time just like before."
She quickly scanned him over and realized it was a puppet. He duplicated himself just to catch her knowing she wouldn't be able to sense it. She watched him disgustingly gape at her and found it ironic that even his fake copy would be so inexcusable. Holding her fans up she hastily got into her battle stance. He smiled and lifted his sword to her. "I wouldn't have our first dance to be any other way."
They had been at it for a while now with no one the victor. His body began to ache with bruises and cuts from his opponents attacks. He'd never felt anything so powerful like this is his life. Ryu won't be so easily defeated. How things had gotten this way? How could I have not felt his mate's aura?
Please Inutaishio! Save us!
Inutaishio was heavily wounded by the dragon youkai having his mind split between his mates and the battle. He could feel her pain and fear through the mark and it enraged him. He flew up in full demon form and bit into the shoulder of Ryu but hadn't been able to escape his attacks and it was taking a toll on his body.
Ryu stared at the dog demon in front of him. He was a little on edge at the power that the dog contained. Even after killing his own father and taking his powers, he only equaled the dog in strength. This enraged him. Flying up he released another attack on the white dog only to have him fly away and in return release an energy attack.
"You're foolish if you think you will escape this battle alive!" Ryu yelled attacking him again. Inutaishio jumped up and met his attack head on pushing him away.
He breathed heavily into the night air feeling the cold wind fill his lungs. Blood dripped down his forearm into the snowcapped mountain cracks. He had to end this somehow quickly. Already he could feel Ryu's attacks were taking its toll on his body. The demon was stronger than he anticipated now that he stole his own father's powers.
Suddenly the voice in his head had diminished. Izayoi stopped talking. Frightened at the possibilities he jumped back quickly avoiding Ryu's next attack.
With an idea he closed his eyes and sighed knowing what he may have to do. He transformed back into his humanoid form and held Tessaiga with an iron grip. Blazing red eyes stared back at him with an equally wounded Lord Ryu. At this rate she would surely die during this battle with Ryu. But, he had one other option. One that he would have to sacrifice a life to safe her.
His own.
In order for it to work he had to seal the demon but in exchange he had to let him get close which would surely mean a deathly blow. With a heavy heart he lifted his sword aiming it at Ryu and ran for him.
"Trying something different are you? Well it won't work!" Ryu yelled before coming for him. Both called on their strongest attacks before releasing in onto each other. Two strong powerful attacks of yellow lightening and white light met and rocked the earth beneath them. Everything was engulfed in the light as it swept the surrounding land.
Simone continued to fight the puppet of Jiro's feeling drained at the dual energy she was using. She was growing tired by the minute but she had to do her part. Her body now lay riddled with cuts and bruises at Jiro's attacks. With her power split between the battle she now fought, protecting her home, and hiding her state from her mate…it was a battle she was slowly losing.
Every time she pushed him away and tried to escape he would come back. Something wasn't right and she could feel it. Izayoi and Inuyasha were in danger and who knows what had happened to them. She had to save them. Suddenly she was punched and flung sideways. Her eyes widened at the contact before her body was lifted and she was kneed in the stomach.
Quickly she stabbed him in the chest with her fans. Pushing off Jiro with her fans she jumped backwards away from him. Calling forth her fire attacks she went in for the kill. A numbing pain rocked her belly and coursed her spinal cord. Tears welled up in her eyes at the possibility of what the bastard may have done.
The puppet watched her with a smirk at seeing her tears. Anger bubbled in her soul accompanied with sadness and grief. Anger at herself for being foolish and risking the life of something very precious to her.
With what power she could siphon she touched Jiro in the chest and released a powerful lightning bolt that shot straight to his heart. She watched with satisfaction as the puppets eyes rolled back onto its head and shook before falling out. She didn't stop as all of her power backed with emotion filtered from her body and onto his. After a few moments her power waned and she stopped.
With a tear stricken face she watched him fall into the snow around him. Tears fell from her eyes and soon her body collapsed with them. Her body hit the snow hard causing an indent. Her warm tears slid down and landed into the snow leaving wet patterns as her mind raced over what may have happened. Breathing heavily she fisted the earth and tried her best to get up. Stumbling to a tree she gripped it and clutched her stomach.
Simone focused on calming her mind and using her power to protect her home and the people. But she was slowly losing the battle. She needed to get to that castle. Stumbling forward she gripped another tree to steady herself before a giant light blinded her vision and rocked her defenses like no other.
The burst of power lighted the night sky like a newborn star and erupted over the land taking in everything it reached. It covered the bodies of the fallen on the battlefield and swept over the force field surround his lands and home. The men on the battle field stopped to look at the light before realizing its deadly effects. Weapons were dropped as suddenly the humans groaned and fell down onto the ground. The demons watched in awe and confusion as some of the humans got up and ran away. The light had touched everything and blinded all to its wrath from Inutaishio and Ryu's battle in the mountains.
Jiro and Sesshoumaru continued to do battle. Sesshoumaru was sickened and pleased that even under the influence of his father's power, Jiro still was no match. He would catch the young demon looking away at times as if distracted by something. But with one deathly blow nearly missed, he quickly gave him his full attention.
Jiro and Sesshoumaru also seize fighting as the light swept over them and blinded them as well. Jiro backed away with fearful wide eyes wondering who was successful in the end of the battle. No! My father could not have fallen so easily to the dog! He thought.
He backed away feeling his father's aura die down suddenly as the light continued to blind them. Sesshoumaru felt his father's aura bursting like never before and it shocked and pleased him to feel the overwhelming strength of his father. Flexing his claws he quickly eyed Jiro's shadow in the light. Narrowing his eyes he took off.
"Die!" He said again and with his clawed hand he dug through the tendons and flesh of his opponent right in his heart. His hands felt the warm sensation of Jiro's blood as it coated his hands and claws. The feel of veins and tendons sliced under the sharpness of his claws as they dug deeper into his chest looking for the one organ he would rid the body of. With satisfaction his hand began to glow green and Jiro's tissue sizzled under contact and melted away.
Jiro was shocked feeling something sharp enter his chest and burn. Seconds passed as the light died revealing a wide eyed Jiro who looked down to see Sesshoumaru's hand pierced right through his body. A loud cry erupted form his chest as the pain registered and the smell of burning flesh and poison reached his senses.
In a quick movement Sesshoumaru pulled his hand out and decapitated the young Lord's head clear off of his body. Sesshoumaru watched in satisfaction as his head rolled to the other side away from his body with a smirk. Looking up into the night sky he watched the light dissipate and revealing falling night skies of snowflakes onto the bloodied earth. Already nature was trying to heal itself and cover the bodies and blood that were spilt that night.
He looked out towards his father's battle and felt the power die down and be replaced with something more bone chilling. He swallowed thickly trying to understand the aura his father was emanating. It wasn't as strong as before. It felt as if it was…weakening. With wide eyes, he quickly ran off no longer caring for his father's bitch and bastard child but deciding to worry about his immediate pack members.
Her shield had run out. She lay heavily against the tree, mind blown at the power shock she felt from her Lord. It was so strong that it disabled her shield and knocked her defenses. The light had faded and snow had begun to fall around her like dust. She felt so tired especially after her shield broke. Gathering what little strength she had left, she continued to pump her legs toward the castle. Little houses lay abandoned along the way with some families, women, and children hiding in fear of the violence that had shattered their once peaceful town.
She carefully climbed on top of roofs and bounded from one home to another avoiding being seen by any guards. Surely her uniform would give her away if caught. When she got there she saw it heavily enforced with fear stricken guards.
"What happened to the fearless strong men?" She wondered as she carefully tried her best to avoid contact with them. She stealthy moved along the houses with the vision of the mansion in sight. She carefully looked out for any signs of the general samurai but found none. Silently she flew down to the ground and crouched running alongside a wall of the mansion. Finding an opening she quickly went in when her arm was jerked forward.
"Hey!"
Quickly she gripped the soldiers arm and pulled him forward. Grabbing his head she twisted it and he fell silently to the floor. Stepping over him she quickly searched for any sign of Inuyasha's aura finding it much quicker than if she had to sift through all the human ones to find Izayoi. Hearing a loud scream she quickly ran in that direction.
It was like deja vu all over again except it was real. Her lungs burned from the harshness of the winter air. Her skin cried blood and wailed of its scars and bruises, her heart beat wildly in her chest at what she might find. She heard the wailing of a baby and all but jumped through the walls. Some soldiers came at her but she quickly took them out with her kitana's taking in their hits and killing them with the single objective of at least making sure the baby would live. If he didn't that would be the ultimate tragedy of the night and every life taken was for nothing.
Blood covered her hands and her vision was slowly blurring from injury and power loss but she had to do this. The hallways looked exactly like her vision as she ran the way she saw before as if she'd roamed these hallways her whole life. Running into the room she saw him holding a bloodied sword over a wailing Inuyasha. Quickly she through a shield around him and ran at Takemura. Quickly he turned at met her with his sword slicing through her abdomen. Gripping her side she winced and turned to face him holding up a kitana.
Her eyes flickered over to a covered Izayoi noticing the blood staining the sheet and running. She rolled over and looked at Simone who now had tears running down her eyes.
Takemura looked between the women before realizing who she was. The seal on her neck and uniform said volumes. The two demons that helped him with this scheme told him about her. The daughter of the bastard that impregnated his intended. She needed to die too, to pay for that dog's transgressions.
"Simone…"She moaned out reaching for her. "Pro-pro-tect my son." She said before her head titled sideways.
Screaming in anguish she used both her hands and held out her kitana's. "You will not hurt that boy!"
"You mean that seed from hell!" He countered before meeting they met in the center. She quickly kicked him in the side with her leg knocking him over. Looking back at Inuyasha who lay crying on the floor now with tears streaming down his face, she nodded. Takemura ran towards her again and this time she parried him off. A loud groan erupted from her lips as she clutched her side where blood was dripping heavily from her body. Looking down she narrowed her eyes.
"Of all things to hurt me…" she muttered. "Still I've completed what I was meant to do here." She closed her eyes feeling a powerful aura rush past her. Looking up she saw Takemura narrow his eyes out of the window at the sign of a dog.
"He has come at last." He said before walking away from their battle drawing confusion from Simone. Quickly she through a barrier around Izayoi and Inuyasha's body. Running over to them she collapsed at the head of Inuyasha's cradling him to her body.
"Sh…shhhhhh you're safe now." She cooed. His crying grew harsh before he settled down and rolled in her arms towards the window. "Aunti Simone's got you." She pacified as she felt Inutaishio's aura surround them. Looking down she smiled through her tears. "Your Dad's here little one!" Releasing her aura finally she let him know she was there.
Suddenly fire burst in the windows. Crawling backwards towards Izayoi's body, she watched in fear as fire exploded all around them. She quickly tried to summon water but there was little oxygen in the air to do so. With all her might she focused on keeping the fire at bay around them but she was drained.
She watched as it crawled up the walls quickly and arrows flew over them. Crouching down over Inuyasha's body to protect him was all she could do. He cried underneath her but she had no choice as the air suddenly thickened and grew poisonous. Using her mark she cried out to Sesshoumaru.
"Help us!" She practically yelled. She could feel his shock and fear through the mark as he raced toward them. She knew it would be too late. Crawling upward she moved Inuyasha's blanket to cover him more and made sure they were protected. She couldn't put a barrier around herself too. So much energy had been used just to protect Inuyasha and Izayoi's body.
Smoke filled her lungs and she quickly began coughing. She looked down to see her shirt completely soaked in her own blood. Her body finally grew tired and slumped down. Another giant light hit the mansion and rocked everything around her. A few boards from the structure began to fall along with other items and the cloths along the windows.
A loud roar ripped through the air causing her head to whip towards the sound. She calmly put Inuyasha in his mother's arms and held her shirt to her mouth to stop some of the smoke from building up in her lungs but the attempt was futile. She reached out again to Sesshoumaru and Inutaishio and hissed as the pain in her side burned. She would keep the barrier around them as long as possible. Swallowing thickly she looked up with widened eyes at Inutaishio's frantic aura. He was dying.
"No..no..noo!" She muttered. "I-I can't lose you too!" She cried running towards the window and breaking it open. Fire fell on her skin but she swatted it off and looked up to see Inutaishio racing towards her. She pointed towards Izayoi and Inuyasha and he nodded. He pointed for her to exit and she hesitated only to be pushed out the way by him. She ran out and fell down on the burning wooden steps.
A few men came at her and began to attack with raised weapons. Screams and cries erupted form their throat before they fell lifelessly to the ground. Her vision blurred as she rolled into the arms of her savior. Looking up she was strands of silver and white flakes.
Gripping his face she cried. "I'm so sorry." She moaned as her vision began to blacken.
"I tried." She whispered and collapsed into the darkness embrace.
