A/N1: Hey guys, I am SUPER sorry that my updates have been so sporadic. Life has been more on the hectic side as of late, and since I do enjoy writing VERY much… I am going to wrap this story up. Once I get this one finished, I will be doing the same with We Are Just The Same Part II. I really want to focus on Forbidden Ground and I have an idea of one more story that has been in the works for a while now. Once I have two of these wrapped up, it will be much easier for me to update on 1 or 2 fic's. So, there will be a bit of time jumping in the next few chapters in order to make this story come to an end. I hope you guys follow the others and enjoy them. I have really liked reading your reviews thus far, and thank you all for your patience and continuing to follow me Have a great week.

IF WE ARE MEANT TO BE – CHAPTER 48

Those days at the beach house had seemed to be exactly what the group of med students needed. They laughed, they shared their hopes and fears for the upcoming future that was coming at them faster than some would have liked. The group thought back to when they first met. Unsure that they would even become friends with one another, and laughed about how crazy that thought turned out to be, considering they were as close as one group of strangers could become. Some fell in love, some got their hearts broken, and some began families.

Derek and Addison's baby was born not long after the start of senior year. A beautiful baby boy, named after Derek (much to Addison's dislike), and the group seemed to mature right along with the new parents. Arizona and Callie took turns helping take care of baby D.J. on the nights when Derek or Addison had to work their rotations at the hospital, and even Cristina and Owen had him at times, shocking everyone. The bond between the friends had become stronger, and as the months passed, none wanted to admit how sad they were to be going their own directions. Derek and Addison ended up being accepted into the same program hospital in sunny California, and a few nights after the celebratory dinner, they went to the court house and were married. It was a quiet, informal ceremony with only their "College family" and their son in attendance. Addison insisted on having a very low key wedding, as she didn't feel that a big "sha-bang" was necessary considering they were already living together, and raising a child. Regardless of the countless conversations Addison and Callie had, while she tried to convince Addison that a wedding is a once in a lifetime thing, and that she deserved it all. Addison still chose what she and Derek felt was the right thing for them.

Callie and Arizona had both been accepted into Seattle Grace Hospital, located in Seattle Washington, so even though they wouldn't be across the hall from their Godson, they wouldn't be across the county either. They had even had several conversations with Addy and Derek about monthly visits to see the family. Cristina and Owen weren't so lucky and were not accepted into the same hospital. Instead, Owen opted to join the Army and serve as a trauma doctor in the field. Once Cristina hear the news about him even considering such a thing, their relationship seemed to take a turn for the worst. The news of Cristina's acceptance to NY Pres only seemed to seal the deal with their break up. Luckily, with the help of their circle of friends, the two had managed to remain civil with one another. There had been many nights that Owen was seen sneaking out of Cristina's room, shirt off, and shoes in hand. Nobody said a word or teased the two about because everyone knew that they loved eachother. They just didn't know how to be in love the right way. Staying out of what they had going on was the best way for everyone to remain "friendly", so that is exactly what they did.

Meredith and Teddy went their separate ways as soon as everyone returned home at the end of their California trip, and if you hadn't known there were a couple, you wouldn't be able to guess that they every broke up. The two women remained very close friends, and still spent a lot of time together. When they said they both felt like they made better friends than girlfriends, they must have meant it because that is exactly how it seemed.

Mark and Lexie have been the couple that has more than their fair share of up's and down's. They have spent most of their senior year being broken up, rather than being together. Everyone did their best to not get involved in the Mark & Lexie drama story and for the most part, had succeeded. The first semester passed rather quickly and before they knew it, they were getting ready to enjoy their holiday vacation. Midterms were done, and that was reason enough for the group to celebrate. So tonight, Derek and Addison hired a babysitter for D.J. and the group was meeting at Joe's for drinks. The Christmas holidays were fast approaching, and everyone was going home for the break. So even though none of them would admit it was more than drinks to celebrate, they were actually getting together to say goodbye before spending two whole weeks apart.

Derek and Addison were splitting their vacation to one week with Addison's family, and one week with Derek's. Callie and Arizona were doing the same, and the others were spending it with their respectful families. Arizona was very excited about taking Callie home again, and to celebrate her favorite holiday with the love of her life. They were going to spend the first week with Callie's parents, then fly to visit Arizona's. Callie's mom and dad had agreed to fly to be with the girls on Christmas and were warmly invited by Arizona's parents as well. Everything seemed to be going great for the group, except the fact that Callie and Arizona had both been stressed to their limit what with midterms and all. Even the way Callie chewed on her pen cap as she read her assignment irritated the blonde to no end. They would nit pick at one another every hour they spent awake together. But then, just like a flip of a switch, they would be attacking each other like two sex addicts. Leaving piles of clothes around the apartment as they stripped franticly, eager to feel skin against skin. Afterwards they would lay together in bed, tracing lazy patters against caramel and white skin.

"I hate when we fight like this. It's such a waste of time." Arizona says, lifting their laced fingers and kissing the back of Callie's hand.

"I hate it too. And I'm sorry for being such a major bitch. It was just the finals stress. It had nothing to do with you. And I hope you know that." Callie says while she buries her face into blonde curls, kissing the side of Arizona's neck.

"I know. I'm sorry too babe. I was stressed out too, and I know I took it out on you too much. But the bright side is that the semester is over, and we have the next two weeks to simply enjoy each other. No text books, no research, no falling asleep with our face planted on a book, only to wake up with a red mark across our foreheads."

"That sounds incredibly good. I am excited about our trip. And as much as I would love, LOVE to spend the last night of the semester in bed with you… naked… I think we should start getting ready to meet the gang. I'm sure Cristina and Meredith have already consumed more tequila than a liver can handle, so some one has to be there to cut them off, and babysit them." Callie says, and Arizona simply nods.

"Ok, but regardless of how much fun we are having at the time, when 12'oclock rolls around, we are walking out of that place so we can come home. Alone. Not come back and have more drinks with them at our apartment."

"You read my mind. Now what do you say about joining me in the shower and maybe we can go grab some dinner before we meet everyone at Joe's."

Callie stood and walked towards the restroom, stopping at the dresser to pull out a change of under clothes for after her shower. She turned to face Arizona, expecting to see her out of bed ready to follow towards the restroom, but instead the blonde was still sitting on the bed. The sheet was wrapped around her, hardly covering the woman's bare chest. She was looking down at her engagement ring, playing with it between her fingers. Callie walked towards the bed, and when the mattress dipped from her weight, Arizona looked up with tears in her eyes. Callie's heart immediately began to race.

"Arizona? What's wrong babe? You look like you're going to cry."

Arizona wiped away a stray tear that managed to fall from her eyes, before offering a weak smile. She just shook her head, but Callie wasn't going to give up that easily.

"Don't say nothing is wrong, because it's obviously not the case. You're crying. And I am totally lost. 2 seconds ago you were happy and smiling. And now? Now you look like you're about to break up with me. What is going on? Seriously. I cannot take seeing you like this, and you not telling me what is going on inside of that pretty little head of yours."

Arizona took Callie's hand into hers and smiled. Looking up, her blue eyes focused on very attentive brown ones.

"I just can't believe how quickly this has all went by. It seems like yesterday that you found me on that campus chat. And now we are engaged to be married. I am excited for our future, but sad about this all coming to an end. Our friends are all moving to different places. I know I'm going to miss them like crazy. I am just so grateful that you and I are going to the same place. I don't know what I would have done if we didn't get hired at the same hospital Calliope."

"Arizona. First and most importantly, if we wouldn't have been selected at the same hospital, I would have applied over and over until I was accepted to whatever hospital you were working for. There is nothing, especially a job, that would be able to keep me from you. Nothing. We are in this together. Forever. And yes, college is coming to an end, but its not the end of our friendships. It's not the end of anything other than school. This is only the beginning. We have our entire lives ahead of us. And that's something to look forward to. Not to be sad about."

"I love you so much. Thank you. You always know how to make me smile." Arizona says, leaning over and resting her head against Callie's shoulder, letting the dark haired woman hold her tightly for a moment.

Once Arizona had seemed to cheer up, the two women enjoyed their shower. They didn't attack one another like they typically did. Instead, they took their time washing the other's body. They both fed off of the pure love that came with the smallest of touches. When they were both as clean as possible, they made great time getting ready for their night out with their friends. They had originally planned to stop and have a quiet dinner alone, but as always their group of friends had convinced them to meet up and have dinner together one last time before going to their scheduled vacation plans.

The driver stopped the car in front of the restaurant that they had all agreed to meet at. It was one of the fancier restaurants in town, and considering tonight was a special night, everyone had agreed to dress to impress. Callie wasn't involved on the plans with their friends, as it had been Arizona on the phone with them, so she just wore whatever Arizona had suggested. When the door opened, Callie climbed out and extended her hand to her fiancée to help her out.

"Cal! Over here!" Mark called out.

The two women walked towards their friend, and Arizona was the first to point out his dropped jaw look.

"Close your mouth Sloan. You're going to catch a fly." Arizona said.

"What? I can't help it that I have excellent eye sight. You two make it incredibly hard to not think seriously dirty th— OWW!" he said as Callie smacked him in the back of his head. "What did you do that for? I was just saying."

"Even if you were the very last man on this earth, I would turn into a nun before I hooked up with you." Arizona said, rolling her eyes and taking Callie by the hand they entered the restaurant.

"Good evening ladies. Do you have a reservation?" The man asked.

"Yes, we have a reservation under Robbins." Arizona replied.

"Oh yes, Ms. Robbins. Most of your party is in the private dining area already. Right this way."

Callie leaned over and whispered into Arizona's ear, "What do they mean YOUR party? I thought everyone pretty much thought this up at the last minute." Confusion spread across Callie's face.

Arizona simply raised her shoulders and shrugged. The two women, followed by Mark walked behind the greeter towards a huge private area. When they stepped inside Callie's jaw dropped in shock. All of their friends were there, as well as both Arizona and her own parents. Everyone wearing matching smiles on their faces as they came over and hugged the two women.

"Callie, it's so great to see you again." Arizona's mother said with her dimpled smile.

"It's good to see you too. I'm sorry, I didn't expect to see everyone tonight. But this is a wonderful surprise. How are you? Hello to you too, Sir." Callie says with a smile before Arizona's father stepped forward to hug her.

"Hey! Smiley! Are you guys going to join us? I'm starving here and Owen just ate the last breadstick. Let's get the show on the road. I need some food in my system so I can get my tequila on." Cristina yelled towards the two women.

Arizona looked at Cristina, and if looks could kill, there would be nothing more than a pile of ashes in the seat Cristina was sitting in. Luckily Callie was busy talking to her parents that she didn't hear the comment.

Soon the oversized extended family were making small talk and catching up on their lives while enjoying their dinner. At the end of the table, Arizona stood and picked up her glass. With a butter knife, she tapped the side of her glass causing everyone to look up and towards her. The conversation died instantly, as the friends all waited for what was fixing to happen. Callie was the only one who seemed to be completely lost and wondered what it was that Arizona could possibly be toasting.

"Everybody, first I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for coming tonight. It truly means a lot to me. These past years here have seemed to fly by. Callie and I were talking just this morning about how amazing these few years have been, and even though we are sad to see them ending, we are excited about the bright futures we all have ahead of us. Even though we aren't going to the same hospitals, I know that our friendships are more than temporary. They are bonds that we have created, and will last a lifetime. I know that the next step is going to be bittersweet, but before the next chapter of our lives begins, there is something extremely important that I need to do." Arizona says, getting huge smiles from everyone at the table. Even the completely oblivious Callie was smiling along with each word that fell from Arizona's lips.

"Calliope Torres, you made me see life in ways I never knew existed. You showed me that true love is powerful, and that as long as you are with the person you love, nothing is impossible. When you and I discussed moving in together, I didn't think anything could top that feeling. But you proved me wrong when we got engaged. Then our relationship grew. It bloomed into something that you only read about in fairytale books. It gave me strength when I felt I couldn't keep going. It made me see that even if times were tough, and we felt like throwing our hands in the air and giving up, the love we have kept me pushing through. You make my life feel like a living, breathing love story. And before we start this next chapter of our lives, I want us to start it the right way."

"Arizona…" Callie whispered to herself.

She watched Arizona walk over towards her and she went to stand. Before she could get up from her chair, Arizona's hand was on Callie's shoulder to stop her from standing.

"Callie, I love you. So very much. So I'm asking you, I want to move up the wedding date. I want to move it up so we can start our jobs at Seattle Grace as wife and wife. I want to know that we are bonded to one another by marriage. I want to start a family with you one day. I want the little house with the wrap around porch and ids running and playing while we sit together and sip our coffee. I want so many things, but without you I can't having any of that. You are the main thing in my life. And I cannot wait to be your wife. So what do you sa? Will you marry me? Sooner rather tan later?

The entire room went silent as all eyes turned to Callie and locked, waiting for her reaction to Arizona's speech.

Callie stood up and walked towards Arizona, keeping a straight face the entire time.

"Arizona… " Callie begain, the room grew silent as they all listened. "Yes. Of course I want to marry you. The sooner, the better. I love you so much."
