February 3rd

Apollo POV

I was walking along with the sun on my face. I heard waves crashing beside me. I turned around and smiled at the water, immediately thinking about Percy. Almost as though he was summoned by my thoughts, I felt a pair of arms wrap around my shoulders. I leaned back a little into his hold and smiled.

I was surprised that he was the one who came onto me. I hadn't expected him to return my feelings.

Before I could say anything about it though, he spoke. "So where is your bow?"

I frowned and turned my head to meet his sea-green gaze, "What?"

One of the arms that were wrapped around me traced down towards my wrist, bringing it up for me to see that it was bare. "You're not wearing it."

I couldn't remember taking it off but I just shrugged. "I don't know, but I don't need it right now anyway."

"Of course you do, you're about to go fight Python."

I stood up straight and pulled away from him, my frown deepening. "What are you talking about? I'm not ready for that."

"You have to be, you told him that you were going to have a show-down at high-noon."

"What? I can't fight him right now."

"Well you don't have a choice, he's already here."

I turned away from the young god and sure enough, I was faced with a sight that I had not seen in eons. The green and brown earth dragon looked even bigger than I remembered. His scaled were pattered to look like the light shining through the trees. It sounded beautiful but when the beast was 150 feet long with razor sharp spikes down its back and teeth as long as my arm, it was just terrifying.

The creature bared his fangs at me. "We meet again son of Zeus. It was foolish of you to come alone."

I shook my head. "I'm not alone, Percy is..." I turned around, but there was no one there. There was only sand stretching out as far as I could see in every direction. I could have sworn that I was just on a beach, but I didn't have time to question it.

I turned back to the child of Gaia only to see the serpent bearing down on me. I tried to run, but my feet weren't moving fast enough. I felt like I was trying to run through quick sand. I had only moved a few steps before I was knocked to the ground. I tried to regain my feet, but the creature pinned me down. I struggled to escape the coils before they could tighten, but I was still stuck in slow motion.

I heard it begin to hiss its laughter. "Puny son of Zeus, a mortal like you is no match for me. You may have beaten me once, but you will find doing so again is much harder."

As I watched, the monster seemed to grow even bigger until it's body blocked out my sun. I thrashed about even harder but the more I tried to escape, the tighter the coils around me became. I was beginning to struggle for breath. The creature simply laughed harder.

"And now... it's time for you to taste a mortal death."

It bared its fangs in a grotesque parody of a smile, before it lunged for my throat. I barely had time to scream...

Percy POV

I jolted awake to a blood curdling scream. I was out of bed and down the hallway before I was even really awake. I uncapped Riptide and threw open the door to the sun gods bedroom. I spun around, looking for the threat, but I couldn't see anything. I focused my attention back on the god of the sun. He was screaming on the top of his lungs, his eyes still closed, obvious asleep.

I dropped my sword and ran to the bed. "Apollo... APOLLO!" I shook his shoulders, trying to wake him up. Suddenly he jolted awake, panting for air. He sat up; his terrified eyes searched the room in confusion before finally coming to rest on me.

"P...Percy? What... what happened to Python?" He was on edge, his breathing was faster than normal.

"Python?" I frowned in confusion, "I heard you screaming. You were having a nightmare."

"A nightmare? But..." He shook his head, trying to shake off the remaining terror.

"Ya, you know a bad dream?"

He looked very confused. "I've... I've never had a dream before."

I could feel the surprised expression on my face. "Wait, you've never had a dream?"

He shook his head, "Gods don't dream. Haven't you noticed?"

I tilted my head in confusion. I hadn't really thought about it but now that I did, I realised I hadn't had a dream in the last few months. Considering demigods almost always had nightmares, I hadn't really missed it.

I blinked in shock at the realization. "Oh..."

He shook his head and looked around like he still expected the giant reptile to be hiding somewhere. "It seemed so real."

I winced in sympathy, "Ya, Demigod dreams are pretty intense." His breathing finally started to return to normal, but now he had an embarrassed blush on his face. "Are you okay?"

He shrugged, but couldn't seem to meet my eye. "I'm fine... Thanks for waking me up."

I waved off his comment. "No problem, I know how bad those dreams can get. Sometimes you need someone to tell you it's just a dream."

The god of the sun nodded, but didn't say anything. I could tell that the dreams had thrown him off balance. I bit my lip; I knew what a really bad nightmare was like. Afterwards you were always too afraid to go back to sleep right away in case you fell back into the same dream. I figured that Apollo could use something to take his mind off of it.

"I'm not really tired right now, what do you say to a movie?"

The god of the sun met my gaze and gave me a grateful smile, "That sounds good."

Since neither of us really cared what we watched, we settled on This Means War. I had never heard of it, but the case looked good and it was on top of the pile. I definitely hadn't expected a movie about two CIA agents to be a romantic comedy, but it was still good.

Apollo didn't really seem to be watching it. Judging by the look on his face, I was fairly certain that he was still thinking about his dream. I could hardly imagine what it would be like to have your first and only dream be a nightmare terrifying enough to make you scream in your sleep.

I had a feeling that he could use a friend.

He was there for me when I needed someone; I wanted to be there for him. I just didn't know how. I decided the best place to start would be the same place he always did. I shuffled on the bed until we were sitting with our sides pressed together and then I wrapped an arm around his shoulder. He turned to me with a stunned look on his face, but he didn't pull away.

I felt a little unbalanced holding him like this. It was fairly similar to how I had held Annabeth after she had nightmares during a quest. Just sitting together on the bed, holding each other, felt a lot more intimate than our normal interactions did.

When the silence began to feel awkward, I decided to break it. "So, do you want to tell me what the dream was about?"

I felt his shoulders tighten underneath my hand. I gave him an encouraging squeeze in response. He took a deep breath and sighed.

"It... it doesn't even make sense now."

I shrugged. "A lot of dreams are like that. You hardly ever question them while it's happening, it's only after you wake up that you realize how ridiculous it is."

"We were on a beach, and you had... you were asking me about why I didn't have my bow. Then you were telling me how I needed it because Python and I were supposed to be having a show-down at high noon like it was some kind of old western. Then suddenly I was in a desert. Python was behind me and you were gone. I looked for you but there was no one there and then Python started to chase me. I tried to run, but I wasn't moving. He caught up to me and then he was suffocating me. He was just about to kill me when you woke me up."

I felt the tension practically radiating off of the sun god. I tightened my arm around him and winced. It sounded terrifying. I couldn't blame him for being freaked out by it. Rather than saying that though, I decided to point out the biggest flaw in the dream.

"That would never happen though."

He huffed, "I know that I would never go in unarmed but..."

"No, not that part, though that too. I meant that you'd never be facing him alone. I'll be there with you."

The god of the sun frowned. "You can't, I'm supposed to do it on my own."

"Nonsense, demigods don't work alone. We go on quests together. You think I'd let you go without me?"

He looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. "You... you'd go with me to face Python?"

I gave him a smile, "Of course! You're my best friend. I'm not letting you risk your life without being there to watch your back."

He looked at me with an indecipherable expression. "I... I don't know what to say."

I felt my smile soften. I was happy that I could help my friend. The way he was looking at me caused a warm feeling to expand in my chest.

"Don't even worry about Python. You'll kick his ass to Tartarus and I'll be right there beside you when you get your immortality back."
